Introduction Safety Information To obtain best results from your Furman Power Station-8 Power Conditioner, please be sure to read this manual carefully before using. Warning Toreducetheriskofelectricalshock,donotexposethisequipment torainormoisture.Dangeroushighvoltagesarepresentinsidethe enclosure.Donotremovethecovers.Therearenouserserviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only. Important Safety Instructions 1. Please read and observe all safety and operating instructions before installing your Power Station-8 (PST-8). Retain these instructionsforfuturereference. 2.Your PST-8 should notbe used near water­forexample, near abathtub,washbowl,kitchensink,laundrytub,inawetbasement, nearaswimmingpool,etc. 3. Do not place your PST-8 near heat sources such as radiators, heatregisters,stovesorotherappliancesthatproduceheat. 4. The PST-8 should only be connected to a 120 VAC, 60Hz, 15 ampgroundedelectricaloutlet.Donotdefeatthegroundorchange polarizationofthepowerplug. 5.Routethepowercordandothercablessothattheyarenotlikely tobewalkedon,trippedover,orstressed.Payparticularattention totheconditionofthecordsandcablesattheplugs,andthepoint where they exit your PST-8. To prevent risk of fire or injury, damaged cordsandcablesshouldbereplacedimmediately. 6.CleanyourPST-8withadampclothonly.Donotusesolventsor abrasivecleaners.Neverpourliquidonorintotheunit. 7. Your PST-8 should be serviced by qualified service personnel when: ·Thepowersupplycordortheplughasbeenfrayed,kinked,orcut. · Objects have fallen or liquid has spilled into the unit. ·Theunithasbeenexposedtorainorothermoisture. ·The unit does not appear to operate normally, exhibits a marked changeinperformance,ortheProtectionOKindicatorisnotlit. ·Theunithasbeendropped,ortheenclosuredamaged. 8.Your PST-8 requires that a safety ground be present for proper operation.Anyattempttooperatetheunitwithoutasafetygroundis consideredimproperoperationandcouldinvalidatethewarranty. Operation AC, Telephone, and Coaxial Connectors Telco ­ Satellite / Cable Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors: The PST-8 features transient voltage surge suppression for both standardtelephonelines,aswellascableandsatellitelinesutilizing standard coaxial connectors. As these surge suppressors are inline,theywillrequireanadditionalcable(suppliedwiththePST-8)to connectfromtheiroutputtothecontroldevicerequiringprotection. All in-line surge suppressors feature our exclusive ground contamination free technology. This aids in eliminating audio buzzing,andthevideohum-barsthatcanresultfromtypicalin-line suppressors.Further,ourcableandsatellitesuppressorsareTIVO friendly as well as HD-Digital Television ready. Both DC carrier signals as well as high bandwidth signals can pass through our circuit.Infactthebandwidthislessthan0.1dBlossat1GHz! Toconnectyourcablingtothesein-lineprotectors,simplyfollowthe inandoutindicationsmarkednexttotheTelco,andCable/Satellite connectors. Note: It is not possible to make an in-line cable / satellite protector "maintenance-free" as we have accomplished with the 120 VAC line.Thiswouldnecessitatelimitedsignalbandwidththatwouldnot allowthesignaltopass.Underextremeconditions,itispossiblethat the surge suppression in one of these devices could sacrifice itself afteracatastrophicevent.Ifthetelephone,cableorsatellitesignal willnolongerpassthroughourprotector,pleasesendyourPower Station to Furman for servicing. To test this, simply disconnect the incoming and out going cable from the PST-8. Connect the incomingconnectortothecomponentthatformerlyreceivedtheout goingconnector,thusby-passingthein-lineprotection.Ifthesignal is present (but not when used with the PST-8) then the protection circuitisdamaged(assumingitworkedproperlybeforethestormor catastrophicevent). Circuit Breaker If the PST-8 is connected to an AC outlet where sufficient voltage ispresent,theunitshouldoperateproperlywiththeprotectionOK indicatorlit,afterthemainpowerswitchisturnedtotheonposition. If the unit still does not function under these conditions check the circuit breaker button! It is the round black button adjacent to the incomingACcord.Ifthecircuitbreakertripsimmediately,theremay betoogreatofacurrentloadplaceduponit.Simplydisconnectone productatatimeuntilthisnolongerhappens.Ifthebreakertrips with no components connected, there may be a wiring defect that requiresFurmanservice. Indicators Extreme Voltage Shutdown Indicator: Furman's SMP+ circuit senses sustained voltages that are high enough to cause damage to your components, and shuts the powerdownbeforedamagecanoccur.Suchconditionscaninclude accidental connection to a 240VAC source (where 120VAC is expected),oranopenneutralfroma208or240VACsource. The Extreme Voltage Shutdown LED is normally off. If an input voltage in excess of 137VAC is sensed, either on initial power-up or during normal operation, the PST-8 will shut off power and this indicatorwilllight. NOTE:Ifthemainspowerisabovethehighcutoffvoltageandhas causedtheunittoremovepowerfromitsoutlets,itcannotrestore power without the operator manually turning the unit off, then on again. Avoid turning the unit back on without first checking the source oftheproblemandperhapschangingtheACsource. Protection OK Indicator: Although the Furman SMP+ circuit assures virtually maintenancefree protection from transient voltage spikes and surges, nature hasawayofoccasionallycreatingelectricalforcesthatarebeyond thecapabilitiesofanytransientvoltagesurgesuppressordeviceto absorb without some degree of damage. In the rare instance that thisoccurs,theblue"ProtectionOK"LEDindicatorwillturnoff.Ifthis happens,somelevelofprotectionfromvoltagesurgeswillremain, but Furman's clamping voltage rating will be compromised. The unit must be returned to Furman Sound, or an authorized Furman ServiceCenterforrepair. Mounting IfthePowerStationneedstobemountedtotheinsidepanelofarack orhungfromawall,aconvenientcrossedovalcutoutisprovidedon theunit'sbottompanel.AstandardNo.6panheadscrewcanbe usedinthesamewayapictureishungfromawall.Simplymeasure the centers on the bottom of your Power Station. This will be the distancefromthetwomountingholesdrilledintoyourwall,rackor cabinet surface. Once the screw is fastened flush with the surface, backitoutapproximately½".Thescrewheadshouldpushthrough thecrossedcutoutonthebottomsurfaceofthePowerStation.Next, simplyallowthePowerStationtomovedownandseatintotheend of its oval cut-out. Adjust the pan head screw if necessary. Warranty FurmanSound,LLCwarrantstotheoriginalpurchaserofthisproduct,theFurmanPST8,thattheproductwillbefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipforaperiodof three years from the date of purchase. The purchaser of the product is allowed fifteen daysfromthedateofpurchasetocompletewarrantyregistrationbymailoron-lineat theFurmanwebsite.Ifthepurchaserfailstocompletetheaforementionedregistration, thewarrantyperiodwillbereducedtooneyearfromthedateofpurchase. IftheproductdoesnotconformtothisLimitedWarrantyduringthewarrantyperiod(as herein above specified), purchaser shall notify Furman in writing of the claimed defects. Ifthedefectsareofsuchtypeandnatureastobecoveredbythiswarranty,Furman shall authorize the purchaser to return the product to the Furman factory or to an authorizedFurmanrepairlocation.Warrantyclaimsshouldbeaccompaniedbyacopy oftheoriginalpurchaseinvoiceshowingthepurchasedate;thisisnotnecessaryifthe WarrantyRegistrationwascompletedeitherbymailinginthecompletedwarrantycard orbyregisteringon-lineattheFurmanwebsite.ShippingchargestotheFurmanfactory ortoanauthorizedrepairlocationmustbeprepaidbythepurchaseroftheproduct. Furmanshall,atitsownexpense,furnishareplacementproductor,atFurman'soption, repairthedefectiveproduct.Returnshippingchargesbacktopurchaserwillbepaid byFurman. CONNECTED EQUIPMENT WARRANTY: Furman Sound's Connected Equipment Warranty covers equipment that is damaged by transient voltage (an "Occurrence") while properly connected through the Furman PST-8 to a properly wiredAC power line with a protective ground in an indoor location. Furman's Connected Equipment WarrantyislimitedtotheamountofthedeductibleonthePurchaser'spersonalproperty insurancepolicyupto$500.00.InordertomakeaclaimforthisConnectedEquipment 8 Warranty,thePurchasermustforwardacopyofhis/herpersonalpropertyinsurance claim for the damaged equipment to Furman and complete the Furman Connected EquipmentWarrantyclaimform(callFurmanat(707)763-1010toobtaintheform). Furman reserves the right to review the damaged Furman product, the damaged connectedequipment,andthesitewherethedamageoccurred.Allcostofshipping damagedequipmenttoFurmanforinspectionshallbebornesolelybythePurchaser. Damaged equipment must remain available for inspection until the claim is finalized. TheConnectedEquipmentWarrantyisalsoineffectforaperiodofthreeyearsunless the Purchaser does not complete the warranty registration within fifteen days from date ofpurchase,atwhichtime,theConnectedEquipmentWarrantyperiodisalsoreduced tooneyearfromthedateofpurchase. All warranties contained herein are null and void if: the Furman Surge Protector in use during the occurrence is not provided to Furman for inspection upon Furman's request at the sole expense of the Purchaser, Furman determines that the Furman SurgeProtectorhasbeenopened,improperlyinstalled,alteredinanywayortampered with,FurmandeterminesthatthedamagedidnotresultfromtheOccurrenceorthat noOccurrenceinfacttookplaceorFurmandeterminesthattheconnectedequipment wasnotusedundernormaloperatingconditionsorinaccordancewithManufacturer's instructions for the connected equipment. All Furman Surge Protectors must be pluggeddirectlyintoaproperlywiredACpowerlinewithaprotectivegroundandmust notbe"daisy-chained"togetherinserialfashionwithotherpowerstrips,UPS's,other surgeprotectors,three-to-two-prongadapters,orextensioncords.Anysuchinstallation voidsthiswarranty.TheFurmanwarrantyonlyprotectsagainstdamagetoproperly connectedequipmentwhereFurmanhasdetermined,atitssolediscretion,thatthe damageresultedfromanOccurrenceanddoesnotprotectagainstactsofGod(other than lightning) such as flood, earthquake, war, terrorism, vandalism, theft, normal-use wearandtear,erosion,depletion,obsolescence,abuse,damageduetolow-voltage disturbances(i.e.brownoutsorsags),non-authorizedprogram,orsystemequipment modification or alteration. Do not use this product in anyway with a generator, heater, sump pump, water-related device, life support device, medical device, automobile, motorcycle, or golf-cart battery charger. To be used indoors only and in dry areas. All warranties contained herein are null and void if used in anyway with any of the aforementioneddevices. THE FOREGOING IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITYANDFITNESSFORAPARTICULARPURPOSE.Furmandoes notwarrantagainstdamagesordefectsarisingoutofimproperorabnormaluseor handlingoftheproduct;againstdefectsordamagesarisingfromimproperinstallation, againstdefectsinproductsorcomponentsnotmanufacturedbyFurman,oragainst damages resulting from such non-Furman made products or components. This warranty shall be cancelable by Furman at its sole discretion if the product is modified in any way without written authorization from Furman. This warranty also does not apply to products upon which repairs have been affected or attempted by persons otherthanpursuanttowrittenauthorizationbyFurman. THISWARRANTYISEXCLUSIVE.ThesoleandexclusiveobligationofFurmanshall betorepairorreplacethedefectiveproductinthemannerandfortheperiodprovided above.Furmanshallnothaveanyotherobligationwithrespecttothisproductorany part thereof, whether based on contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise.
