Using this microwave will make cooking a real pleasure. Please read the instruction manual to ensure that you make use of all the technical advantages the appliance has to offer. The start of the instruction manual contains a number of im portant notes relating to safety. You will then be introduced to the individual components of your new appliance. This section explains all the functions of your new appliance and how to operate it. The tables have been structured in such a way as to provide a step by step guide to the cooker settings. They contain information on simple recipes, appropriate ovenware and the ideal settings, all of which have of course been carefully tested in our cooking studio. It also contains a number of tips on care and cleaning to ensure that your appliance continues to look good for a long time. In the unlikely event of a malfunction, the last few pages contain information on how to rectify minor faults yourself. Should you have any questions, always refer to the detailed table of contents first. This will help you find the right section quickly. We hope that you will enjoy cooking with your new microwave. Only then will you be able to operate your appliance safely and correctly. q Please keep the instruction and installation manual in a safe place. Pass on the instruction manual to the new owner if you sell the appliance. Before installation Disposing in an environmentally responsible manner q Unpack oven and remove all packing material. ó q This appliance is labelled in accordance with the European Directive 2002/96/EC concerning used electrical and electronic appliances (waste electrical and electronic equipment - WEEE). q The guideline determines the framework for the return and recycling of used appliances as applicable. Transport damage q Check the appliance for damage after unpacking it. Do not connect the appliance if it has been damaged in transport. q If the supply cord is damaged, it must only be replaced by the manufacturer or it is service personnel or similarly qualified person in order to acoid a hazard. 45 Installation and connection q This oven is intended for built in use only. Please observe the special installation instructions. q The appliance can be installed in a 60 cm wide high sided unit (at least 85 cm above the floor). q This oven is intended for cabinet use only, using Trim Kit for Lift Door - BF 2630.0 - providing additional decorative door. It is not intended for counter top or built in use. The microwave oven must be operated with the decorative door open. q The appliance is fitted with a plug, and must only be connected to a properly installed socket outlet with earthing contact. The fuse protection must comprise 16 amperes (automatic circuit breaker with trigger characteristic L or B). The mains voltage must correspond with the voltage specified on the nameplate. q The installation of the socket or replacement of the connecting cable must only be carried out by a qualified electrician. If the plug is no longer accessible subsequent to installation, an all pole disconnecting device must be present on the installation side with a contact gap of at least 3 mm. q Multiple plugs, plug connectors and extension cables must not be used. Overload can lead to a fire hazard. 46 Important information Safety information q This appliance complies with all relevant safety regulations for electrical appliances. Repairs may only be carried out by after sales service technicians who have been fully trained by the manufacturer. Improper repairs run the risk of causing serious injury to the user. q Adults and children must not operate the appliance without supervision - if they are physically, sensorially or mentally incapable of doing so - or if they lack the knowledge and experience required to operate the appliance correctly and safely. q Children may only prepare meals with the solo microwave if they have been properly instructed. They must be able to operate the appliance correctly. They must understand the hazards indicated in the instruction manual. When children use the appliance, they must be supervised to prevent them from playing with it. There is a risk of burning. q This appliance must only be used for food preparation. q You should only use the microwave with the turntable in place. Always place the food in a container on the turntable. q Ensure that liquid which has boiled over does not leak through the turntable drive into the inside of the appliance. q The microwave must only be switched on when there is food in the cooking compartment. The appliance may overload if it is switched on without any food in it. An exception to this rule is for short term testing of ovenware (see notes on ovenware). 47 q Clean the appliance on a regular basis. The surface of the appliance could be destroyed and the appliance could corrode over time if it is not cleaned with sufficient care. Microwave energy could escape. q If the oven seal is very dirty, the oven door will no longer close properly when the oven is in use. The fronts of adjacent units could be damaged. Keep the oven seal clean. q Never touch the surfaces of heating and cooking appliances. They will become hot during operation. There is a risk of burning. Children must be kept at a safe distance from the appliance. q The connecting leads from electrical appliances must not become trapped in the oven door. This could cause damage to the insulation. There is a risk of short circuiting or electrocution. q Never store combustible items in the oven compartment as they may ignite when the oven switched on. There is a risk of burning. q Do not open the oven door if you can see smoke inside the oven. Pull out the plug. q The oven door must always close properly. Keep the door seal areas clean. q If the oven door is damaged, do not use the oven again until it has been repaired by an after sales service technician. Otherwise microwave energy may escape. q Keep the microwave away from excessive heat and from dampness. q You must not open the casing. The oven is a high voltage appliance. q If the appliance is defective, remove the mains plug or switch off the fuse in the fuse box. Call the After sales Service. q The oven compartment lamp must only be replaced by an after sales service technician. 48 q It is hazardous for anyone other than a competent person carrying out any service or repair operation which involves the removal of a cover which gives protection against exposure to microwave energy. Safety information for microwave operation q The microwave must only be switched on when there is food in the cooking compartment. q The microwave should only be used for heating food and drinks. Using the microwave for other purposes may be dangerous and may result in damage e.g. grains or cereals could catch fire when heated. There is a risk of burning. q There is a risk of burning. When heating up liquids, always place a teaspoon in the container to prevent delayed boiling. When boiling is delayed, the liquid comes to the boil without the customary steam bubbles. The slightest vibration can cause the hot liquid to boil over or spatter violently. This can cause injuries and scalds. q Baby food: Always heat up baby food in a glass or bottle without the lid or teat. Once heated, the baby food should be stirred or shaken thoroughly to distribute the heat evenly. Always check the temperature before giving the food to your baby. There is a risk of scalding. q Never heat up food or drinks in tightly sealed containers. There is a risk of explosion. q Alcoholic drinks must not be overheated. There is a risk of explosion. q Do not heat any meals in heat retaining packages as they could ignite. Keep an eye on food in containers made of plastic, paper or other combustible materials during heating. Airtight packaging may burst when the food is heated. 49 q Not: Never cook eggs in their shells nor heat up hard boiled eggs, as they may crack or explode even after the microwave heating has ended. The same applies to shellfish and crustaceans. Always prick the yolk first for fried or poached eggs. q Always prick the skin of foodstuffs with hard crusts or skins such as apples, tomatoes, potatoes and sausages before cooking to prevent the skin from bursting. q Keep a close eye on the oven when you are defrosting or heating foods such as herbs, fruit or mushrooms or foods with a low water content such as bread as overdrying can create a fire hazard. q Never heat up cooking oil in a microwave as it could ignite. q Use only microwavable containers. q Porcelain or ceramic ovenware can have small perforations in the handles or lid. These perfo rations conceal a cavity below. Any liquid that penetrates this cavity may cause the ovenware to crack. q Always use the microwave settings and cooking times specified in the instruction manual. If you select a heat setting that is too high or a cooking time that is too long, this may cause the food to ignite and the appliance to be damaged. q Meals heated in the oven give off heat. The ovenware can become hot. Always use oven gloves when taking ovenware out of the oven. 50 The control panel Display panel for clock and duration Rotary knob for setting the time and duration.
