Strap on the helmet and get ready for some hard-hitting action on the gridiron. The fun begins at the Main menu. Main Menu Pick your favorite game mode from the Main menu using the Directional Control Pad. You can choose from PLAY NOW to play a single exhibition game or SEASON PLAY to play a full NFL season. Press the A Button to select any option from the Main menu STARTING A GAME (PLAY NOW) A Play Now exhibition game gets you on the field quick and easy. · To begin a PLAY NOW game: Highlight PLAY NOW from the Main menu using the Directional Control Pad and press the A Button to select it. o To select a team for the upcoming game, press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down from the Team Select menu and highlight a team logo. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to toggle Home and Visitor. Press the A Button to advance to the Game Rules screen. o To change a game rule, highlight a game rule by pressing the Control Pad Up/Down. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to change the rule. Once the rules are set, press the A Button to advance to the Controller Setup screen. For more information, see Game Rules. · To choose which team to control, move the football icon by pressing the Directional Control Pad Left/Right in the Controller Setup screen. The mobile device icon under the logo of the team of your choice will change to say "1". If the mobile device icon says "CPU", it indicates that team will be controlled by the device. Press the A Button to advance to the Team Matchup screen. Press the A Button again to advance to the Pre-Game Show. Note: To watch a self running demonstration, move the football icon so that it is positioned above the "vs." and both mobile icons say "CPU". GAME RULES Change the Game Rules for Madden NFL 2005 to best fit your playing style. Game Rules ­ Play Now (Exhibition) Mode Only Season Rules ­ Season Mode Only Note: The Location and Weather options only appear in Play Now (Exhibition) mode. The Injuries option only appears in Season mode. Note: Default settings in this manual appear in bold type QUARTERS LOCATION Set the length for game quarters to 3, 5, 10, or 15 minutes. Select the location of the game. You can play at any stadium in the league. Select the weather conditions for your game to FAIR, WINDY, RAINING, SNOWING, NIGHT, or VARIABLE. Dome stadiums are excluded from this option. Depending on your selection, game play will be affected accordingly, although signs of weather will not be apparent on the field. For example, if snowing, you cannot pass the ball long distances and players will slip around a bit on field, but you will not see any snow on the field. WEATHER Note: The weather condition default and options are based on the location chosen. ENDURANCE Play your game with player Endurance ON or OFF. When ON, players fatigue during gameplay. Turn the Injuries option ON and running backs feel the results of those 350-pound linemen (Season mode only). Choose between ORIGINAL or MODIFIED rosters. Modified rosters include trades and substitutions. INJURIES ROSTERS TEAM MATCHUP SCREEN See how the competing teams matchup comparing Overall, Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Receivers, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Linebackers, Secondary, Kicker, and Punter. The more checkmarks a team has in a particular category, the better that team is rated for that category given its player roster. PRE-GAME SHOW MENU Make your last-minute adjustments from the Pre-Game Show menu. When you're ready, send your captains out to mid-field for the coin toss. START GAME To begin the game, highlight START GAME and press the A Button to reach the field. For more information, see On the Field. GAME PLAY OPTIONS Adjust your Pre-Game options: · SET SKILL LEVEL: Set the skill level to PRO if you're a rookie or ALL MADDEN if you're ready for a bigger challenge. SET OFFENSE CONTROL: Set the offense control to AUTOMATIC PLAYER CONTROL or MANUAL PLAYER CONTROL. When set to MANUAL PLAYER CONTROL, you can select the player that you want to control on offense before the ball is snapped. Defensive control is not affected. · NOTE: Set Offense Control is only available when you control the home team. · PASS CATCH MODE: When set to MANUAL, you take control of the receiver while the ball is still in the air. When set to AUTOMATIC, the CPU runs the route for the receiver but you can take control after a pass completion. PASS MODE: In SINGLE RECEIVER mode, only one receiver is available to catch a pass. In FOUR RECEIVER MODE up to four receivers are available. QUICK PASS MODE: When set to ON, the passing icons automatically appear above your receivers. When set to OFF, you must press the B Button to call up the icons. SET AUDIBLES: Select the audibles available to your offense and defense during a game. o To set an audible, highlight OFFENSE or DEFENSE and press the A Button. The SET AUDIBLE screen appears. Select the desired audible button that you wish to set and press the A Button again. Select a Formation, Set, and Play to select the new audible. If you want to change a selection while setting an audible, press the B Button to return to the previous screen. SET PENALTY LEVELS: Select the frequency at which penalties are called. When the sliders are · · · · high, with red bars, penalties are called more often during a game. When the sliders are low, with green bars, penalties are called less often during a game. · INJURY MODE: Set Injuries ON/OFF (Season mode only). SUBSTITUTIONS Rearrange your starting lineups and depth charts for both offensive and defensive play set formations. To make a substitution: 1. Select OFFENSE, DEFENSE, GLOBAL OFFENSE, OR GLOBAL DEFENSE and press the A Button. Select a formation and press the A Button again. 2. Select a position that you want to sub and press the A Button. Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down and highlight a player to sub out of the Active players starting lineup and press the A Button. 3. Highlight the new player in the Available Players column and press the A Button. Press the C Button to toggle between the players' names and their positions. 4. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to toggle the attribute column. The players involved are now reshuffled in the depth chart. NOTE: When making subs for Global Offense or Global Defense, all formations are affected. CREDITS END GAME NOW Review game credits for Madden NFL 2005 Exits the current game, returning you to the Madden NFL 2005 Main menu ON THE FIELD Play every play like it's your last. If you are a bit rusty on basic plays or the rules in general, we would recommend visiting the following public websites to sharpen up: Plays: http://www.football.com/playbook/index.shtml Rules: http://www.football.com/rulesandinfo.shtml COIN TOSS Before the kickoff, the team captains meet mid-field for the coin toss. When the coin is in the air, the visiting team makes the call (press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to select Heads or Tails). The winner of the coin toss chooses to kick or receive the opening kickoff (press the A Button or B Button) while the loser chooses to defend either the Home or Visitor end of the field (press the A Button or B Button). The teams then take the field. KICKOFF To kick off, press the A Button to set the kicker in motion. The Power Meter begins moving upward-the higher the meter, the higher the power. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to aim the kick while the kicker is in motion. Press the A Button again to stop the meter and kick the ball. Note: The Power Meter will move back downward if the A button is not pressed again soon enough. Onside Kick If your team is losing late in the game and you've just scored, try an onside kick and attempt to regain control of the ball. To make an onside kick: o Press the C Button (to call an audible) and then the B Button or C Button to get in the onside kick formation. To return to a normal kick: o Press the C Button (to call another audible) and the A Button to return to a normal kick off formation. o Press the A Button to perform the onside kick. The ball is kicked a short distance and your team can try to recover the ball. Kickoff Return The kickoff return man is automatically positioned to catch the ball. If he catches the ball in the open field, press the Directional Control Pad Up (and Left/Right) to gain yards. If he catches the ball in the end zone, you can either try to gain yards, or remain in the end zone for a touchback. On a touchback, the offensive drive begins on the offense's 20-yard line. OFFENSIVE PLAYS While in the huddle, select an offensive formation and play. Be sure to call a play and snap the ball before a delay of game penalty is called. To choose a play on offense: 1. Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down to scroll through the different formations (see Formations screenshot below). Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to highlight a formation. Press the A button to select the formation. The sets for that formation appear (see Sets screenshot below). 2. Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down to scroll through the available sets for the selected formation. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to highlight a set. Press the A button to select the set. The plays for that formation and set appear (see Plays screenshot below). 3. Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down to scroll through the available plays for the selected set and formation. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to highlight a play. Rushing plays are marked blue and passing plays are marked green (see Plays screenshot below). 4. Press B to flip the direction of a play. 5. Press C Button to cancel the formation and play. 6. Then press the A button to select the play. Formations Sets Plays Rushing Plays Control the clock with a solid ground attack. Take control of your running backs after the hand-off or watch the computer execute the play. · After you press the A Button to snap the ball, the computer executes the hand-off or pitch automatically. To take control of the ball carrier, press the Directional Control Pad in any direction. If you do not press the Directional Control Pad, the computer runs the play for you. Execute five different moves when running: press the C Button to Dive, double tap the A Button to hurdle, the B Button to spin, and the A Button for a speed burst. When running as the QB, press the C Button to slide or dive. You can · lateral the ball if a member of your team is close enough by double tapping the B Button. Passing Plays Attack the secondary with your passing game using timed, short passes or deep strikes to the end zone. To execute a passing play: 1. Press the A Button to snap the ball. 2. Use the Directional Control Pad to control the quarterback, moving out of the pocket if necessary to avoid the defensive linemen. 3. Press the B Button to cycle through available receivers. (when Quick Pass mode is OFF). The selected receiver is marked in yellow (see screenshot below). 4. Press the A Button to pass the ball to the selected receiver. Controlling the Receiver Once the ball is in the air, the receiver automatically completes his pattern. You can take control of the intended receiver by pressing the A Button and then using the Directional Control Pad to move him in any direction. Once you have control of the receiver you can press the B Button to make the receiver jump up to catch the ball, or press the C Button to have him dive to catch the ball. Offensive Audibles Call an audible at the line of scrimmage and change your original play. Press the C Button before the ball is snapped, followed by the A Button, B Button, or C Button to select your audible. Double tap the C Button to cancel without selecting an audible. For more information see Audibles under Game Play Options. No-Huddle Offense If the clock is winding down and you're looking for that last-second score, hold down the A Button immediately after a play to get back to the line of scrimmage without consulting the playbook. The offense runs the previous play. Hold down the B Button immediately after a play to get back to the line of scrimmage and run a play to stop the clock. After the snap, the QB immediately spikes the ball. DEFENSIVE PLAYS Sure, you have an explosive offense, but defense wins championships. To run the defense, select the plays the same way you select your offensive plays. Once the offense chooses its play, you must choose your defensive play within five seconds or you run the same play from the previous down. To choose a play on defense: 1. Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down to scroll through the different formations (see Formations screenshot below). Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to highlight a formation. Press the A button to select the formation. The plays available from that formation will be displayed (see Plays screenshot below). 2. Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down to scroll through the different plays. Press the Directional Control Pad Left/Right to highlight a play. Press the A button to select a play. a. On the line of scrimmage, press the A Button to select a player to control. You can use the Directional Control Pad to reposition the player before the snap. b. To show blitz, press the B Button. Formations Plays Controlling the Defense To switch to the player closest to the ball during a play, press the A Button. Press the B Button or C Button to make a tackle. Defensive Audibles If you wish to call an audible before the offense snaps the ball, press the C Button followed by the A Button, B Button, or C Button to select your audible. Double tap the C Button to cancel without selecting an audible. For more information, see Audibles under Game Play Options. PAUSE MENU Press the D button to pause the game and view the Pause menu. While using any of the options, press B button to return to the Pause menu. RESUME GAME Get back on the field and resume the current game. GAME PLAY OPTIONS Adjust your Game Play options. For more information, see Game Play Options CALL TIMEOUT Each team is allowed three timeouts per half. A timeout stops the game clock and resets the play clock to 45 seconds. You must select a new play after a timeout. Sub players in and out of the lineup. For more information, see Substitutions. Read game statistics, team statistics, individual stats, and a score summary for both teams broken down by quarter. View game credits for Madden NFL 2005. End the current game and return to the Main menu. SUBSTITUTIONS STATISTICS CREDITS END GAME NOW POST-GAME SHOW Every game is followed up with some of the same pre-game and in-game options: Statistics and Credits. When you exit a season game, the information for that week is stored in the record books. SEASON MODE Make a run for a championship by playing a full 16-game schedule or jump straight to the post-season with a single-elimination playoff. Note: You can only play one season at a time. Starting a New NFL Season while another is active erases all saved season data. To Begin A New Season: Highlight NEW NFL SEASON from the Season Play menu and press the A Button. The NFL Schedule for Week 1 appears. Highlight a game on the schedule (Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down) that you wish to play and press the C Button. A checkmark appears. Press the A Button to advance to the Controller Setup menu, the Team Matchup Screen, then the Pre-Game Show menu, and then take the field. To Begin A New Set Of Playoffs: Highlight NEW PLAYOFFS from the Season Play menu and press the A Button. The Schedule for the Wildcard Playoffs appears. Highlight a game on the schedule (Press the Directional Control Pad Up/Down) that you wish to play and press the C Button. A checkmark appears. Press the C Button to advance to the Controller Setup menu, the Team Matchup Screen, then the Pre-Game Show menu, and then take the field. To Set The Season Rules: Highlight SEASON RULES from the Season Play menu and press the A Button. For more information, see Game Rules. Note: Quitting a playoff game that is tied automatically rewards the home team with a win. Note: When selecting NEW PLAYOFFS, teams are selected at random. SEASON PLAY MENU NEW NFL SEASON NEW PLAYOFFS SEASON RULES Begin a new 16-game NFL season. Begin a new playoff round of football. Set the rules for an upcoming Season or Playoff. For more information, see Game Rules. Select a league (AFC, NFC, NFL or TEAM), then select the type of stat (PASSING, RECEIVING, RUSHING, DEFENSE, KICKING, PUNTING, KICK RETURNERS, PUNT RETURNERS) to view a list of the top 10 category or team specific stats. View the season standings. Continue the current Season or Playoff. LEAGUE STATS LEAGUE STANDINGS CONTINUE SEASON/PLAYOFFS FRONT OFFICE All personnel decisions are yours alone when you take the reins of your NFL team. TRADE A PLAYER Select the two teams involved in the trade, then press the A Button. The Trade Players menu is identical to the Assign Player menu. Follow the same instructions as for assigning players. Cancel all new player assignments and player trades and return to the original team rosters. This option comes with a warning for a reason! Press the A Button to revert all rosters. RESET ROSTERS OPTIONS Configure the way Madden NFL 2005 runs on your mobile device. BUTTON CONFIG Choose which of your mobile device's buttons you would like to set as A, B, C, and D. Note: Different devices have a variety of different button layouts and some buttons may be available for use while others may not. The best way to determine if a button is available for use is to try to assign it during the game button configuration. If the button is not available for use, you will not be able to assign it Note: If it appears that you have run out of buttons to assign, note that some devices have a button in the center of the Directional Control Pad that can be assigned separately. Note: Once you press a button to assign it, wait for the screen to prompt you to configure the next button. AUDIO VOLUME Set the volume level for the sound effects and music in the game by pressing the Directional Control Pad Up/Down to choose the item you wish to change.
