See the Important Safety and Product Information guide in the product box for important battery safety information. Step 1: Mount the nüvi 1. Flip the cradle open, toward the windshield. 2. Fit the bottom of your nüvi into the cradle. 3. Tilt the nüvi back until it snaps into place. Your unit should turn on automatically if it is in place and your vehicle is running. To remove the unit from the cradle, pull up the release button on the back of the cradle and tilt the unit towards you and remove it. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual GettinG Started Step 2: Configure the nüvi Step 4: Use the nüvi A E B F C D To turn on your nüvi, slide the Power key to the left. Follow the on-screen instructions. Step 3: Acquire Satellites Go outdoors to an open area, out of garages, and away from tall buildings. Stop your vehicle, and turn on the nüvi. Acquiring satellite signals may take a few minutes. G H I The bars indicate GPS satellite strength. When one bar is green, the nüvi has acquired satellite signals. The detailed map loaded in your nüvi contains millions of points of interest, such as restaurants, hotels, and auto services. Touch Where to?. Select a category. Select a sub-category. Select a destination. TiP: Touch Touch Go. and Enjoy the route! to see more choices. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual GettinG Started Following Your Route As you travel, your nüvi guides you to your destination with voice prompts, arrows on the map, and directions at the top of the map. If you depart from the original route, your nüvi recalculates the route and provides new directions. Adding a Via Point You can add a stop (via point) to your route. The nüvi gives you directions to the stop and then to your final destination. TiP: If you want to add more than one stop to the route, edit the current route. See page 13. 1. With a route active, touch Menu > Where to?. 2. Search for the extra stop. 3. Touch Go. 4. Touch Add as Via Point to add this stop before your destination. Touch Set as new Destination to make this your new final destination. Your route is marked with a magenta line. Follow the arrows as you take turns. A checkered flag marks your destination. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual GettinG Started Taking a Detour If a road on your route is closed, you can take a detour. 1. With a route active, touch Menu. 2. Touch Detour. Adjusting the Volume From the Menu page, touch Volume. Touch and to adjust the master volume. Touch Mute to mute all audio. The nüvi attempts to get you back on your original route, as quickly as possible. If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the nüvi might not calculate a detour. Locking the Screen To prevent accidental screen taps, slide the Power key to the right ( ). To unlock the screen, slide the Power key to the center position. Stopping the Route 1. The Where to? menu provides several different categories you can use to search for locations. To learn how to perform a simple search, see page 4. TiP: Touch near to change the search area. See page 12. Touch Save to save this location. See page 10. If a mobile phone with Bluetooth wireless technology is connected, touch to call this location. Finding an Address Go Page Options Touch an item in the search results list to view the Go page. Touch go to create a turn-by-turn route to this location. Touch Show Map to view this location on the map. If the GPS mode is off, touch Set Location to set your current location here. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual 1. Touch Where to? > Address. 2. Touch Change State/Province (or Country), if necessary. 3. Touch Search All. OR Touch Spell City, enter the city/postal code, and touch Done. Select the city/postal code in the list. (Not all map data provides postal code searching.) 4. Enter the number of the address, and touch Done. 5. Enter the street name, and touch Done. Select the correct street in the list, if necessary. 6. Touch the address, if necessary. 7 Where to? Finding a Place by Spelling the Name When an on-screen keyboard appears, touch a letter or number to enter it. If you know the name of the location you are looking for, you can spell it using the on-screen keyboard. You can also enter letters contained in the name to narrow the search. 1. Touch Where to? > Points of Interest > Spell Name. 2. Using the on-screen keyboard, enter letters in the name. Touch Done. Touch to add a space. Touch and to move the cursor. Touch to delete the character. Touch to select words you have recently typed and selected. Touch Mode to select the keyboard language mode. Touch to enter numbers and special characters. TiP: You can change the keyboard layout to QWERTY, which is like a standard computer keyboard layout. See page 30. Using the On-Screen Keyboard When you drive faster than approximately 5 miles per hour (8 kilometers per hour) and try to use the keyboard, a message appears asking if you are the driver of the vehicle. If you answer "yes," the keyboard will be disabled. If a passenger is operating the nüvi and answers "no," the keyboard will be usable. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual Where to? Finding an Authorized Volvo® Dealership Setting a Home Location 1. Touch Where to? > Go Home. 2. Select an option. Touch Where to? > Volvo Dealers to view a list of the 50 closest authorized Volvo® dealers. You can set a home location for the place you return to most often. Finding Recently Found Places Going Home Your nüvi stores the last 50 of your recent finds in the Recently Found list. The most recently viewed places appear at the top of the list. Touch Where to? > recently Found to view your recently found items. After you set your home location, you can route to it at any time by touching Where to? > go Home. Changing Your Home Location To change your home location, you must first delete it from Favorites. 1. Touch Where to? > Favorites. 2. Touch Home > Edit > Delete > Yes. Deleting Recently Found Places To remove all places from the Recently Found list, touch Clear > Yes. noTe: When you touch Clear, all items from the list are removed. It does not delete the actual place from your unit. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual After you delete your home location, reset it by following the steps in the "Setting a Home Location" section above. Where to? Favorites You can save places in your Favorites, so you can quickly find them and create routes to them. Your home location is also stored in Favorites. this feature to find your car in a parking lot. Editing Saved Places Saving Your Current Location From the Map page, touch . Touch Save Location to save your current location. 1. Touch Where to? > Favorites. 2. Touch the location you want to edit. 3. Touch Edit. Saving Places You Find 1. After you have found a place you want to save, touch Save. 2. Touch OK. The place is saved in Favorites. Finding Saved Places 1. Touch Where to?. 2. Touch Favorites. Your saved locations are listed. TiP: Your Last Position is automatically saved each time you remove the nüvi from the cradle while the nüvi is on. Use 4. Touch a button to edit the location: · Change Name--enter a new name, and touch Done. · Change Map Symbol--touch a new symbol. · Change Phone Number-- enter a phone number, and touch Done. · Delete--removes this item from the Favorites list. Touch Yes. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual 0 Where to? Finding a Place Using the Map Use the Browse Map page to view different parts of the map. Touch Where to? > Browse Map. Entering Coordinates Tips for Browsing the Map · Touch the map, and drag to view different parts of the map. · Touch and to zoom in and out. · Touch any object on the map. An arrow appears pointing at the object. · Touch Save to save this location. · Touch go to navigate to the location. · If the GPS mode is off, touch Set Loc to set your location to the selected location. (See page 30.) If you know the geographic coordinates of your destination, you can use your nüvi to navigate to any location using its latitude and longitude coordinates. This can be especially helpful when geocaching. Touch Where to? > Coordinates. To change the type of coordinates, touch Format. Because different maps and charts use different position formats, the nüvi allows you to choose the correct coordinate format for the type of map you are using. Enter the coordinates, and then touch next. Touch go to create a turn-by-turn route to the coordinates. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual Where to? Searching Near Another Location noTe: Your nüvi automatically searches for places near your current location. Creating and Taking Routes Touch Where to? > routes. Select the route you want to take and touch go. 1. Touch Where to? > Near. 2. Select an option: · Where I Am Now--search near your current location. · A Different City--search near the city you enter. · My Current Route--search along your route. · My Destination--search near your current destination. 3. Touch OK. Creating a Saved Route Use your nüvi to create and save routes before your next trip. You can save up to 10 routes. 1. Touch Where to? (or Tools) > Routes > New. 2. Touch Add New Start Point. 3. Find a location as your starting point, and touch Select. 4. Touch Add New End Point. 5. Find a location as your ending point, and touch Select. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual Where to? 6. Touch to add another location to your route. Touch to remove a location. 7. Touch Next to calculate your route and view it on the map. 8. Touch Save to save the route and exit. · Touch Recalculate to change the route preference to calculate by faster time, shorter distance, or off road. · Touch Delete to remove this item. noTe: Your changes are automatically saved when you exit any of the route edit pages. Editing Routes 1. Touch Where to? (or Tools) > Routes. 2. Select the route you want to edit. 3. Touch Edit. 4. Touch an option to edit the route: · Touch Change Name. Enter a new name, and touch Done. · Touch Add/Remove Points to add new start, via, or end points to the route. · Touch Manually Reorder Points to change the order of points along your route. · Touch Optimally Reorder Points to automatically order the points. Navigating Off Road If you are not following roadways as you navigate, use Off Road mode. Touch Tools > Settings > navigation > route Preference > off road > oK. Select a destination and touch go to navigate off road to the destination. Walking to a Destination If you are walking to your destination, use Pedestrian mode to optimize your route for walking. Touch Tools > Settings > System > Usage Mode > Pedestrian > oK. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual USinG the Main PaGeS UsinG The Main PaGes Map Page Touch View map to open the Map page. The vehicle icon shows your current location. Touch and drag the map to view a different area of the map (see page 11). Touch to zoom out. Touch the text bar to open the Turn List page. Touch to zoom in. Touch Menu to return to the Menu page. Touch Arrival or Speed to open the Trip Information page. To save your current location, touch the vehicle icon. Touch Turn In to open the Next Turn page. Map Page while Navigating a Route Trip Information Page Turn List Page Next Turn Page TiP: A speed limit icon may appear as you travel on major highways. This icon displays the current speed limit of the highway. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual USinG the Main PaGeS Trip Information Page The Trip Information page displays your current speed and provides helpful statistics about your trip. To view the Trip Information page, touch the Speed or Arrival field on the Map page. If you make frequent stops, leave the nüvi turned on so it can accurately measure elapsed time during the trip. Turn List Page When you are navigating a route, the Turn List page displays turn-by-turn instructions for your entire route and the distance between turns. Touch the green text bar on the top of the Map page to open the Turn List page. Touch a turn on the list to view the Next Turn page for that turn. Touch Show Map to view the entire route on the Browse Map. Resetting Trip Information If you want accurate trip information, reset the trip information before beginning a trip. Touch reset Trip to reset the information on the Trip Information page. Touch reset Max to reset the maximum speed. Next Turn Page When you are navigating a route, the Next Turn page shows the turn on the map and the distance and time left before you reach the turn. To view an upcoming turn on the map, touch the Turn in field on the Map page, or touch any turn from the Turn List page. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual USinG handS-free callinG UsinG hands-free callinG Using Bluetooth wireless technology, your nüvi can connect to your mobile phone to become a hands-free device. To see if your device with Bluetooth technology is compatible with the nüvi, visit www.garmin.com/bluetooth. Bluetooth wireless technology establishes a wireless link between devices, such as a mobile phone and the nüvi. The first time you use two devices together you must "pair" them by establishing a relationship using a PIN/ passkey. After the initial pairing, the two devices can connect automatically each time you turn them on. noTe: You might have to set your device to connect to the nüvi automatically when it is turned on. Pairing Your Phone To pair and connect, your phone and the nüvi must be turned on and be within 10 meters of each other. Initiate pairing from your nüvi or from your mobile phone. Refer to your phone's instructions. To pair using the phone settings: 1. Enable the phone's Bluetooth component. This might be in a menu called Settings, Bluetooth, Connections, or Hands-free. 2. Initiate a search for Bluetooth devices. 3. Select the nüvi from the list of devices. 4. Enter the nüvi's Bluetooth PIN (1234) into your phone. 6 nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual USinG handS-free callinG 1. From the Menu page, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Add. 2. Enable your phone's Bluetooth component and enable Find Me/ Discoverable/Visible mode. These settings might be in a Bluetooth, Connections, or Hands-free menu. 3. Touch OK on the nüvi. 4. Select your phone, and touch OK. 5. Enter the nüvi's Bluetooth PIN (1234) in your phone. To pair using the nüvi settings: Receiving a Call When you get a call, the Incoming Call window opens. Touch Answer to answer the call. Touch ignore to ignore the call and stop the phone from ringing. The internal microphone is in the front of the nüvi; speak normally. In a Call When your phone is connected to your nüvi, you are ready to make phone calls. Touch Phone to access the Phone menu. When you turn on the nüvi, it tries to connect to the last phone to which it was connected. noTe: Not all phones support all features of the nüvi Phone Menu. During a call, the in Call icon appears. Touch > end Call to hang up. Touch > Call options for the following options: · Touch Tones--displays a keypad page so you can use automated systems, such as voice mail. · Transfer Audio To Phone--this is helpful if you want to turn off the nüvi, but stay on the call or if you need privacy. Using Your Phone Book Using Call Waiting When you are on a call and you receive a second call (call waiting), the nüvi displays the Incoming Call window. Touch Answer to answer the call. The first call is placed on hold. To switch between calls: 1. Touch > Switch To. 2. Touch End Call to hang up; this does not disconnect the call on hold. Each time your mobile phone connects with the nüvi, the phone book is automatically loaded into the nüvi. It may take a few minutes for the phone book to be available. 1. Touch Phone > Phone Book. 2. Touch the phone book entry (contact) you want to call. 3. Touch Dial to call the contact, or touch Compose to send an SMS/text message. Phone Menu Dialing a Point of Interest From the Menu page, touch Phone to open the Phone menu. Press Status to view the connected phone's signal strength, battery level, and name. noTe: Not all phones support all features of the nüvi Phone Menu. 1. Touch Phone > Points of Interest. 2. Search for the point of interest you want to call. 3. Touch Dial or . 1. Touch Phone > Dial. 2. Enter the number, and touch Dial. Dialing a Number nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual USinG handS-free callinG Viewing Your Call History Each time your phone connects to the nüvi, your call history is automatically transferred to the nüvi. It may take a few minutes to transfer this data to the nüvi. 1. Touch Phone > Call History. 2. Touch a category to view those calls. The calls are listed in chronological order; the most recent calls are at the top of the list. 3. Touch an entry, and touch Dial. 3. Touch Done > Yes. The nüvi dials your home phone number. noTe: To edit home location or phone number, touch Where to? > Favorites > Home > edit. 1. Touch Phone > Call Home. 2. The nüvi dials your home phone number. To call home: Placing Calls Using Voice Dial You can place calls by speaking the contact's name. 1. Touch Phone > Voice Dial. 2. Speak the contact name. noTe: You may need to "train" your mobile phone to recognize your voice dial commands. Refer to your phone's instructions. Calling Home Enter a phone number for your home location, so you can quickly call home. 1. Touch Phone > Call Home. 2. Touch Enter Phone Number to use the keypad page or Select From Phonebook (only available if your phone supports phone book transfer). nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual To enter your phone number: USinG handS-free callinG SMS/Text Messaging If your phone supports SMS/text messaging using Bluetooth technology, you can send and receive text messages on the nüvi. Viewing Your Messages 1. 2. 3. 4. Getting a Text Message When you get a text message, the Incoming Message window opens. Touch Listen to play the text message, review to open your inbox, or ignore to close the window. Sending a Text Message Touch Phone > Text Message. Touch Inbox, Outbox, or Drafts. Touch a message. Select an option. · Touch to listen to the message. (Must have a TTS voice selected to listen to SMS/ text messages; see page 32.) · Touch Forward to send this message to another recipient or Reply to reply to this contact. 1. Touch Phone > Text Message > Compose. 2. Select an option to select the text message recipient. 3. See pages 24­25. 1. Touch Tools > Media Player. 2. Touch Source to open the music player. 3. Touch Browse. 4. Touch a category. 5. To play the entire category from the beginning of the list, touch Play All. To play a specific song, touch the title. ManaGinG fileS ManaGinG files You can store files, such as MP3s and JPEG image files, in the nüvi's internal memory or on an optional SD card. noTe: The nüvi is not compatible with Windows® 95, 98, Me, or NT. It is also not compatible with Mac® OS 9 and earlier. Step 4: Eject and Unplug the USB Cable Step 3: Transfer Files to Your nüvi When you are finished transferring files, click the eject icon in your system tray, or drag the volume icon to the Trash on Mac computers. Unplug your nüvi from your computer. Copy and paste files from your computer into the nüvi drives/volumes. 1. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy. 2. Highlight the file, and select Edit > Copy. 3. Open the "Garmin" or SD card drive/volume. 4. Select Edit > Paste. The file appears in the list of files on the nüvi memory or SD card. Deleting Files With the nüvi connected to your computer, open nüvi or SD card drive/ volume. Highlight the file that you want to delete, and press the Delete key on your computer's keyboard. CAUTion: If you are not sure about a file's purpose, do noT delete it. Your nüvi memory contains important system files that should noT be deleted. Picture Viewer Using the Picture Viewer, view pictures that you have stored in your nüvi. 1. Touch Tools > Picture Viewer. 2. Touch a picture to view a larger image of it. 3. Touch the arrows to view all the images. Settings For information about the settings, see pages 30­35. My Data Viewing a Slide Show Use this tool to manage and delete your saved data, such as your Favorites. If you have transferred a route from MapSource, touch import route from File to use that route in your nüvi. Touch Slide Show to start a slide show, which displays each image for a few moments and then displays the next image. Touch anywhere on the screen to stop the slide show. Voice--change the language for voice prompts. Languages noted with a person's name are text-to-speech (TTS) voices, which have an extensive vocabulary and pronounce the street names as you approach turns. The pre-recorded voices (those without a person's name) have a limited vocabulary and do not speak names of locations or streets. Text Language--change all on-screen text to the selected language. Changing the text language does not change the language of user-entered data or map data, such as street names. Keyboard--select the keyboard for your language. You can also change the keyboard language mode from any keyboard by touching the Mode button. Changing the Map Settings Touch Tools > Settings > Map. Map Detail--adjust the amount of detail shown on the map. Showing more detail may cause the map to redraw slower. Map View--select a map perspective. · Track Up--display the map in two dimensions (2D) with your direction of travel at the top. · north Up--display the map in 2D with North at the top. · 3D--display the map in three dimensions (3D) in Track Up. Vehicle--touch Change to change the icon used to display your position on the map. Touch the icon you want to use, and then touch oK. To clear your trip log, touch Tools > My Data > Clear Trip Log. Map info--view the maps loaded on your nüvi and their version. Note that restoring the security settings will not clear your Garmin Lock PIN or Security Location. Bluetooth Technology Settings Touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth. Connections--select Add > oK to pair with a mobile phone that has Bluetooth wireless technology. See pages 16­20. Select Change to connect with a different device. noTe: The nüvi's PIN code (or passkey) is 1234. Adding Security Settings Touch Tools > Settings > Security. garmin Lock--turn on Garmin LockTM to lock your nüvi. Enter a 4-digit PIN, and set a security location. For more information, see page 36. Safe Mode--when the vehicle is moving faster than approximately 5 miles per hour (8 kilometers per hour) and you try to operate your nüvi, a message displays asking if you want to disable Safe Mode. Safe Mode disables all Travel Kit functions when in motion. Safe Mode is restored every time the nüvi is turned on. nüvi 760 for Volvo cars Owner's Manual Drop--select the phone you want to disconnect, and touch Yes. remove--select the phone you want to delete from the nüvi's memory, and touch Yes. cUStoMizinG the nüvi Bluetooth--enable and disable the Bluetooth component. The Bluetooth icon appears on the Menu page if the Bluetooth component is enabled. To prevent a phone from automatically connecting, select Disabled. Friendly name--enter a friendly name that identifies your nüvi on devices with Bluetooth technology. Touch Done. Troubleshoot--scroll through the list containing compatible devices. If your phone is not in this list, go to www.garmin.com/bluetooth for more information. restore--restore the original Bluetooth settings. This does not clear the pairing information. Changing the Proximity Points Settings You must have proximity points (such as custom POIs, a safety camera database, or a TourGuide®) loaded to adjust the proximity point settings. See page 39. Touch Tools > Settings > Proximity Points. Proximity Alerts--touch Change to turn on or off the alerts when you approach custom POIs or safety cameras. Tourguide--set how you want the audio for TourGuide to be activated.
