Plug & Play is important these days. People are often confused about setting up their home or business network so they rather have a unit that sets everything up for them. Just plug the Ethernet cables from a source into the ports on the EZ-500s will automatically obtain the IP address for you. There is no need to install any software or no setup required. Every LAN port on the EZ-500s has an `AutoUplink' ability which means you can connect your existing router into any of the five ports on the EZ-500s and it will connect and establish the connection automatically. As simple as 1-2-3, the EZ-500s is the best solution whether if you want to setup a LAN party or expand your existing home/business network so you can have more computers linked together. Please read farther down for more information on this great unit and thank you for choosing GigaFast. Make sure you install the Network adaptor drivers in accordance with the manufacturers' directions. 2. Prepare the twisted-pair cables with RJ-45 plugs (Ethernet adapters) on each end. Use Category 5/5e cable for all connections. 7 Make sure the cable length is less than or equal to no more than 100 meters (328 feet). 3. Attach one end of the cable to the RJ-45 port of the computer's network adapter card and the other end to any available port of the 5-port Network Switch. 4. Locate a suitably switched 120volt AC power outlet to plug in the supplied power pack. 5. Insert the power pack into the power outlet. 6. Connect the cable attached to the power pack adapter to the power inlet on the rear panel of the switch. *Note* If you're trying to expand your home/business network with the EZ500s into a router, simply have an Ethernet cable connected in between of the EZ-500s and the router you have. Any port will work because of the auto-uplink function on the switch. Aftermath: After you have successfully installed the EZ-500s, check the lights in the front and see if they are operating. For each Ethernet cable you insert into the port on the switch and the other end, the link light in the front will light up. If you experience problems with this product please read our FAQ guide or contact our technical support line. E-Mail: techsupp@gigafast.com Website: www.gigafast.com Thank you for choosing GigaFast 8 Chapter 3 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Q: What is the dimension on the EZ-500s? A: L: 110mm x W: 70mm x H: 19mm Q: What is the operating temperature on the EZ-500s? A: Every product we have is 0 to 40 degree Celsius Q: Can I use the EZ-500s to share the internet connection with other computers within my network? A: The answer is yes and no. The EZ-500s allows only one IP to be used at a time. If you want to share one IP with multiple computers then a router is needed. EZ-500s allows you to do file and sharing, LAN (Local Area Network) gaming etc. For example: If you have more than one IP address, then it is possible to use the EZ-500s to share the internet connection. To do this: (For most Microsoft Windows based Operating System) 1. Make sure you set up the dedicated IP address from your ISP under `TCP/IP Internet Protocol' under your Windows Operating System 2. By default the `automatically obtain an IP address' is bubbled in. Bubble `specify an IP addresses' and insert the dedicated IP address. 3. Specify the Mask address and click on `apply' 4. Please ensure that you do a ping test to make sure the switch is communicating with your ISP/computers on the network. (For MAC based Operating System) 1. Under `System Preference' there should be a `Network', click on it 9 2. Go to `Built in Ethernet' and that is where you set up your static internet protocols Q: What is the voltage and power consumption on the EZ-500s? A: The voltage on the EZ-500s: 9V 1A The power consumption on the EZ-500s: 1.5w Q: I have plugged in everything that is required on the EZ-500s and have checked the settings, but still can't get a connection through the switch, what do I do? A: Try to do a power-cycle on the EZ-500s and see if that makes any difference. To do a power-cycle: 1. Unplug the power off the switch and leave it for few minutes 2. Plug back in the power after and wait for a few seconds before operating Q: What is the chipset on the EZ-500s? A: The chipset manufacture for the EZ-500s is Mavell Q: I plugged in my Ethernet cable into one of the ports on the EZ500s and the Link light flashes once every second or so. A: There are several situations might occur when the Link light on that particular port is flashing. 1. Your Ethernet cable might be defective 2. The TX/Duplex rate on the network cards are different from each other 10 3. Static IP addresses weren't set on the computers that is within the network Q: I have set up my switch with static IP's and all the lights seem to be okay, but I can't do file sharing with my computers that are plugged into the EZ-500s A: Make sure you have same `Work Group' names on each computer. To change your `Work Group' name: (For most Windows based Operating System) 1. Go to: Start > Settings > Control Panel and click on `System' 2. You should then see several tabs on one dialog. One of those tabs will allow you to change the workgroup name on that particular computer 3. Be certain that all the computers have the same workgroup name Q: Does the EZ-500s have the `auto uplink' ability? If so, which port? A: Our EZ-500s all have auto uplink and any port supports it. Q: Does the EZ-500s have a user interface like a router? A: No, the EZ-500s does not have a user interface because there is no need for a user to configure an EZ-500s to have a LAN/WAN based connection. All the changes should be applied under the Operating System itself. Q: I have a router and the EZ-500s can I expand my network with those two devices? 11 A: Your router should have an uplink port somewhere. Connect that port with an Ethernet cable and into a port on the EZ-500s and that will expand your network Q: I have an older Ethernet card and upon installation the link light on the EZ-500s flashes every second or so, what is wrong? A: It indicates that your network card is running 100mb Full Duplex. Change the TX rate to 10mb Half Duplex and restart the computer to take effect. Q: Is a cross-over cable needed to connect the EZ-500s to another hub or some type of device? A: A cross-over cable is not needed due to the auto-uplink ability on the EZ-500s Q: Is there a way to make my internet connection faster with the EZ500s? A: Unfortunately a switch/router does not change the speed/bandwidth of your internet connection from your ISP. It depends on the ISP that serves your connection in your area. Q: My EZ-500s gets really hot and often drops my connection A: Put the EZ-500s somewhere that has more air flow and see if that solves the problem. If not, then the switch might be defective. If that is the case, please call our tech support line or e-mail us for further assistance. 12 Appendix A - Switch Specifications Sheet: Standard Number of ports Data Transfer Rate IEEE802.3 & IEEE 802.3u 5x 10/100Mbps Auto-sensing RJ-45 ports Ethernet: 10Mbps (half duplex) 20Mbps (full duplex) Fast Ethernet: 100Mbps (half duplex) 200Mbps (full duplex) Unshielded twisted-pair cable (UTP cable) Star Power 100Mbps, LINK/ACT Store and forward 1K-entry MAC address table 14,880 pps/10BASE-T 148,800 pps/100BASE-T 14,880 pps/10BASE-T 148,800 pps/100BASE-T Pause frame (Full-duplex) Back-pressure (Half-duplex) Supports both half-duplex and fullduplex mode External power adapter, DC 9V, 1000mA 110mm x 70mm x 19mm (L x W x H) 0°C to 45°C (32F to 113F) -40°C to 70°C (-22F to 140F) 5% to 90% (non-conditioning) FCC Class B, CE Mark Iron 1 Megabyte Up to 1K Network Cables Topology LED Indicators Per Device Per Port Transmission Method MAC address table Maximum Forwarding Rate (64byte packets) Maximum Filtering Rate (64byte packets) Flow control Duplex mode Power Supply Dimensions Temperature : Operating temperature: Storage temperature: Humidity EMI Housing Buffer Memory MAC address table 13
