READ INSTRUCTIONS - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the unit is operated. RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS - The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. HEED WARNINGS - All warnings on the unit and in the operating instructions should be adhered to. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS - All operating and maintenance instructions should be followed. CLEANING - Unplug this video unit from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a dry cloth for dusting cabinet. ATTACHMENTS - Do not use attachments not recommended by the video product manufacturer, as they may be hazardous. WATER & MOISTURE - Do not use this video unit near water--for example, near a bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool or the like. ACCESSORIES - Do not place this video unit on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table. The video unit may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the unit. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold with the video unit. Any mounting of the unit should follow the manufacturer's instructions and should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer. An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn. VENTILATION - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation to ensure reliable operation of the video unit and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. Never place your VCR on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface, on or near a radiator or heat register. This video unit should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer's instructions have been adhered to. POWER SOURCES - This video unit should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home consult your appliance dealer or local power company. For video units intended to be operated from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION - This video unit may be equipped with either a polarized 2-wire AC line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other) or a 3-wire grounding plug having a third (grounding) pin. The 2-wire polarized plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet try reversing the plug. If the plug still fails to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. POWER-CORD PROTECTION - Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords of plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the unit. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING - If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the video unit, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. LIGHTNING - For added protection of this video unit during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the video unit due to lightning and power line surges. 15. POWER LINES - An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal. 16. OVERLOADING - Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in the risk of fire or electric shock. 17. OBJECTS AND LIQUIDS - Never push objects of any kind into this video unit through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquids of any kind onto the unit. Should spillage occur, unplug unit and have it checked by a technician before use. 18. SERVICING - Do not attempt to service this video unit yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to a dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. 19. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE - Unplug this video unit from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the power supply cord or plug is damaged. b. If any liquid has been spilled onto or objects have fallen into the video unit. c. If the video unit has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the video unit does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the video unit to its normal operation. e. If the video unit has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. f. When the video unit exhibits a distinct change in performance--this indicates a need for service. 20. REPLACEMENT PARTS - When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or those having the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards. 21. Use when connecting the VCR to a Mono output device, such as a monitor. · SAP -- Second Audio Program. Optional audio signal, often used to transmit a second language, news, or weather broadcasts. SAP will appear on the front panel display if it is available for the program you are watching. · TV+SAP -- Delivers Mono from the left channel and Second Audio Program (SAP) from the right channel. This is useful if you want to listen to a second language with headphones while the primary language is played through your TV speakers. · Simulcast -- Sometimes a broadcaster will transmit a television program and an FM radio broadcast of the same program simultaneously. When Tuner Audio is set to Simulcast, the audio signal will come from the rear line inputs, usually connected to a stereo system. Simulcasts are usually reserved for live musical performances, although they are becoming less common because most televisions have built-in stereo sound. 4 - TUNER AND CHANNEL LIST 35 36 DUAL-DECK USER'S GUIDE 5 - Copy Features Basic Copying Copying a videotape has never been easier. Complete Program Record Complete Program Record, or CPR, helps to ensure you won't run out of tape before your copy is complete. When EZ Copy is selected, the VCR begins copying at the same speed as the source tape; it then calculates how much time is remaining on the target tape and adjusts the copy speed to SLP if necessary to copy the entire tape. If there is not enough room to copy the entire source tape, the VCR will copy in SLP until the end of the target tape is reached. 38 DUAL-DECK USER'S GUIDE Copy Mode There are two methods of copying a tape from Deck 1 to Deck 2: HQ1 (High Quality 1) and HQ2 (High Quality 2). HQ1 is best if your source tape is recorded in SP. HQ2 is best if your source tape is recorded in LP or SLP. The Auto setting will make this choice for you. 1 2
