Important Safety Instructions 1 2 3 Read Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated. Retain Instructions - The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. Heed Warnings - All warnings on the product and in the operating instructions should be adhered to. Follow Instructions - All operating and using instructions should be followed. Cleaning - Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may cause hazards. Water and Moisture - Do not use this product near water - for example near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement; or near a swimming pool; and the like. Accessories - Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table.The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart combination to overturn. 10 Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions. 12 Grounding or Polarization - This product may be equipped with a polarized alternating - current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. This plug will only fit into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug. 14 Power-Cord Protection - Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product. 15 Outdoor Antenna Grounding - If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 provides information with regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. 18 Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 19 Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. 20 Servicing - Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. 21 Damage Requiring Service - Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b If liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the product. c If the product has been exposed to rain or water. d If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. What is DoMiNoFX? DoMiNoFX is a patented video processing technology that digitally enhances and refines the picture quality during copying and recording. The video signal is being output in Progressive Scan mode. 10 The indicated disc type is loaded. 11 Circle: The DVD deck is recording. Clock: A DVD Timer Recording is set 12 A disc is inserted in the DVD deck. 13 The indicated Recording Mode is active. 14 The time is currently AM or PM. 15 Displays the clock, total playing time, elapsed time, remaining time, title number, chapter/track number, channel, VCR counter, etc. 16 DTS: A DVD is playing with a DTS soundtrack. Dolby : A DVD is playing with a Dolby Digital soundtrack. 8 1 - Welcome (cont.) Remote Control Overview Alphabetical listing of remote buttons and their functions: 0-9 Selects TV channels. Also use to enter numbers in the on-screen menus. 100+ Selects channels numbered 100 or higher; e.g., to select chapter 140, press 100+, 4, 0. A-B Repeats an audio or video segment between two points (A and B) during disc playback. ANGLE Shows the same scene from different angles during DVD playback (not available on all DVDs). ARROW KEYS Navigates in the on-screen menus. AUDIO Selects among all available audio options, including tracks, formats, channels, etc. CH/ Selects the next/previous stored channel. CLEAR Resets the tape counter in VCR mode. DISPLAY Displays information about the current disc, tape, or TV channel. DVD Selects DVD mode. EDIT Edits chapters or splits titles on DVD+R/RW discs. EJECT DVD: Opens and closes the disc tray. VCR: Ejects the tape in the VCR deck. ENTER Confirms menu settings, passwords, etc. FF Scans forward at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, and 32x normal speed. INPUT Switches the DVD Recorder+VCR input to Tuner, LINE1, LINE2, or DV. MENU Displays the DVD's Disc Menu (if applicable). NEXT Skips to the next chapter or track during DVD playback. P.SCAN Press and hold for 3 seconds to switch between Progressive Scan and Interlaced Scan modes (only applicable when using the Component Video out connections to a Progressive Scan TV). PLAY Starts playback. Pauses playback or recording. Press again to exit Pause mode. POWER Turns the DVD Recorder+VCR on and off. SETUP Displays or exits the Setup menu. SLOW+/Plays at 1/2, 1/4, or 1/8 normal speed. STOP Stops and holds playback or recording. Press again to reset playback to the beginning of the disc. SUBTITLE Selects among all available subtitle languages during DVD playback. TIMER Displays the Timer Recording menu. TITLE Displays a disc's Title Menu (if available).
