Choose the most appropriate temperature probe(s) for your application (see page 35) and connect it (them) to the meter. All the probes have been precalibrated at the factory and no calibration is needed. HI 92710 and HI 92810 have a single probe connector. HI 92740 and HI 92840 have four probe connectors. With the meter facing you, channel #1 is the first connector on the top left hand side.

If the temperature probe or a calibration test plugs is not connected to the channel input, the meter will display and print "----" to alert the user.
°C
CH
This also indicates the possibility of a broken probe cable. The channel is displayed with "CH" and the number of channel (four channels versions only). Note: To ensure accurate readings it is recommended that the temperature probes be connected to consecutive channels beginning with channel #1. For example, if only one probe is to be used, it must be connected to channel #1. If 2, 3 or 4 probes are to be used, they must be connected to channels 1, 2, 3, and 4 in ascending order. To maximize battery life, the display is automatically switched off after 5 minutes of nonuse. However, the meter will continue to monitor temperature (if in the logging mode) .
