GENERAL DESCRIPTION Microprocessor-based, HI9624, HI9625, HI96240 and HI96250 are portable waterproof pH/°C meters which meet GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) requirements. The last calibration data is automatically stored in memory and you can check the date and time of the last performed calibration, including the offset and 2 slope values, at any time by simply pressing one button. The possibility of checking the status of your meter guarantees maximum measurement precision. 3 With HI9625 and HI96250 you can also measure ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) or Ion Specific (ISE). mV measurements automatically switch from 0.1 to 1 mV resolution when the reading reaches 400 mV. All pH measurements are automatically compensated for temperature changes (ATC) when used with the supplied temperature probe. It is possible to connect the HI96240 and HI96250 to a PC through the RS232C serial port for monitoring data via computer. Other features include: · automatic pH calibration (1, 2 or 3 points) · 5 memorized pH buffers: pH 4.01 6.86 7.01 9.18 10.01 · dual level display with graphic symbols, including defective electrode indication · 24 hr clock with date and time. · 12VDC socket for external power supply · low battery detection. Made of tough, lightweight ABS material, the water-resistant rugged casing are built to last. These heavy-duty pH meters comply with the IP67 standards: dust-tight, they are protected against the effects of temporary immersion in water and are designed to provide laboratory results and accuracy under harsh industrial conditions. 4 LCD DISPLAY FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION 1 mV pH DATE CFM WRONG CAL °C mV pH 2 1 BUF 2 3 1. Remove the back cover, unwrap the batteries and install them while paying attention to the polarity. PROBES CONNECTION To prepare the instrument for use connect the pH electrode to the BNC socket on the top of the instrument. Connect the temperature probe to the RCA socket. COMBINATION pH ELECTRODE WITH BNC CONNECTOR HI 7669/2W TEMPERATURE PROBE The temperature probe can be used independently to take temperature measurements, or it can be used in conjunction with the pH electrode to utilize the meter's ATC capability. If the probe is disconnected, temperature can also be set manually with the UP and DOWN arrow keys. CAL CFM 10 To switch the instruments on, press and hold the ON/OFF key. The meter has a built-in pro- ON/OFF tection against electromagnetic interference and the delayed response of the keys assures that the commands are not mistaken for stray signals. Before proceeding with pH measurements follow the calibration procedure (see page 19). SETTING DATE AND TIME Press the ALT and the TIME keys simultaneously. The display will show the date setting. At the bottom of the display the year will be blinking. ALT TIME DATE Use the UP or the DOWN arrow keys to select the year. CAL CFM When the correct year is selected, press the TIME key once. The month will start blinking. DATE TIME 11 Select the month by using the UP or the DOWN arrow keys. CAL CFM Press the TIME key. The day will start blinking. DATE TIME Use the UP or the DOWN arrow key to select the correct day. CAL CFM Press the ALT and the TIME keys simultaneously. The display will now show the clock time and the hour will start blinking. ALT TIME To select the hour, press the UP or the DOWN arrow keys (24 hour clock). CAL CFM 12 Press the TIME key once and the minutes will start blinking. TIME Use the UP or the DOWN arrow keys to select the minutes. CAL CFM Press the ALT and the TIME keys simultaneously to leave this mode. ALT TIME The date and time are now set and stored in the memory even when the meter is switched off. 13 VIEWING DATE / TIME / pH / mV** / TEMPERATURE Press the RANGE key to display the pH measurement mode: the pH reading is on the primary display, and the temperature is on the secondary one. pH °C RANGE Press the RANGE key again (for HI 9625 and HI 96250 only) to display mV measurements together with the temperature (by pressing the same key you can switch from pH and mV measurement mode and vice-versa). mV °C RANGE To view the time press the TIME key and the display will show hour and minutes. TIME To view the date, press the TIME key again. The display will show month and day on the primary display and year on the secondary one. DATE TIME **mV for HI9625 and HI96250 only 14 TO VIEW pH CALIBRATION DATA Press the CAL DATA key and the meter will display the last calibration data, in the following sequence: - CAL indicator with month, day and year DATE CAL CAL DATA Press the CAL DATA key again and the meter will display the last calibration time as: - CAL indicator with hour and minutes. CAL CAL DATA Press the CAL DATA key again, the display will show the offset calibration factor as: - CAL indicator with pH offset value - pH offset calibration buffer value (BUF1) pH CAL BUF 1 pH CAL DATA Note: The offset pH value should be between ±0.50pH. For values higher than +0.50 pH or lower than -0.50 pH the electrode is no longer reliable and should be replaced. 15 Press the CAL DATA key again, the display will show the first slope calibration factor as: - CAL indicator with pH slope 1st value - pH slope 1st calibration buffer value (BUF2) CAL pH BUF 2 CAL DATA Press the CAL DATA key again to display the second slope calibration factor as: - CAL indicator with pH slope 2nd value - pH slope 2nd calibration buffer value (BUF3). CAL pH BUF 3 CAL DATA Press the CAL DATA key again to resume to normal operation. pH °C CAL DATA Note: The slope characteristic of the pH electrode is directly displayed in percentage of the theoretical value of 58.17mV per pH unit at 20°C. 16 TAKING pH MEASUREMENTS Secure the connections of the pH electrode and the temperature probe to the top of the meter. If possible, use plastic beakers to minimize any EMC interferences. To take pH measurements, simply submerge the bottom 4 cm (1½") of the electrode and the temperature probe in 4 cm the solution to be tested, stir (1½") gently and allow for the electrode to adjust and stabilize. Press the RANGE key to get into the pH mode. COMBINATION pH ELECTRODE WITH BNC CONNECTOR pH HI 7669/2W TEMPERATURE PROBE °C RANGE In order to take more accurate pH measurements, make sure that the instrument is calibrated for pH by checking the last calibration data (see page 13) and eventually calibrate it before use (see page 19). If measurements are taken successively in different samples, it is recommended to rinse the electrode thoroughly with deionized water (or if not available tap water) first and then with some of ...
