If you have parked the car for a long time in hot or cold weather, wait until the temperature in the car becomes normal before operating the unit. Notes on One-Touch Operation: · When you select tuner as a source in step 2 below, the power automatically comes on. You do not have to press this button to turn on the power. · If the cassette is already in the cassette compartment, tape play starts automatically. 1 /I ATT 2 EX AM FM Play the source. To operate the tuner, see pages 4 ­ 8. To operate the tape deck, see page 9. EX (extra) button: To use this button, you need to preset your favorite station in advance. For details, see pages 6 ­ 7. 3 Adjust the volume. LOUD Volume level appears. 4 Adjust the sound as you want (see pages 10 ­ 12). To drop the volume in a moment Press ATT briefly while listening to any source. "ATT" starts flashing on the display, and the volume level will drop in a moment. To resume the previous volume level, press the button briefly again. To turn off the power Press ATT for more than 1 second. Note: For security reasons, a numbered ID card is provided with this unit, and same ID number is imprinted on the unit's chassis. Keep the card in a safe place, as it will help the authorities to identify your unit if stolen. 3 ENGLISH 2 RADIO OPERATIONS Listening to the radio 1 SEL SCAN DISP /I ATT 35WX4 DETACHABLE CONTROL PANEL PROG KS-F100 MO SOUND LOUD 1 2 3 4 5 6 EX AM FM 3 2 Turn on the power. 1 /I ATT Note on One-Touch Operation: When you select a band in step 2 below, the power automatically comes on. You do not have to press this button to turn on the power. 2 AM AM FM FM1 FM2 FM3 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). You can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. LOUD POP SOFT BEAT Note: When a cassette is in the cassette compartment, you cannot select the tuner. Be sure to eject the cassette from the cassette compartment to listen to the radio. 3 To search stations of higher frequencies. Start searching a station. When a station is received, searching stops. LOUD To search stations of lower frequencies. To stop searching before a station is received, press the same button you have pressed for searching. POP SOFT BEAT To tune in a particular frequency manually: 1 Press FM or AM to select the band. 2 Press and hold or until "M" starts flashing on the display. Now you can manually change the frequency while "M" is flashing. 3 Press or repeatedly until the frequency you want is reached. · If you hold down the button, the frequency keeps changing (in 50 kHz intevals for FM and 9 kHz intervals for AM -- MW/LW) until you release the button. 4 You can store the broadcasting stations in memory. Storing stations manually You can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually. EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band /I ATT 35WX4 DETACHABLE CONTROL PANEL PROG KS-F100 MO SOUND LOUD SEL SCAN DISP 1 2 3 4 5 6 EX AM FM 2 3 Select the FM1 band. LOUD 1 1 FM POP SOFT BEAT 2 Tune into a station of 88.3 MHz. See page 4 to tune into a station. LOUD POP SOFT BEAT 3 1 2 Press and hold the button for more than 1 second. LOUD POP SOFT BEAT Preset number "1" flashes for a while. 4 Repeat the above procedure to store other stations into other preset numbers. Notes: · A previously preset station is erased when a new station is stored in the same preset number. · Preset stations are erased when the power supply to the memory circuit is interrupted (for example, during battery replacement). If this occurs, preset the stations again. 5 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Storing your favorite stations into the one-touch operation button (EX -- extra) You can preset an FM or AM station (such as your favorite station or traffic announcement station); and recall it by one touch operation even if the unit is turned off. EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the one-touch operation button (EX) /I ATT 35WX4 DETACHABLE CONTROL PANEL PROG KS-F100 MO SOUND LOUD SEL SCAN DISP 1 2 3 4 5 6 EX AM FM 1 2 1 1 2 EX Follow the steps 1 and 2 on page 5. Press and hold the button for more than 1 second. "0" flashes on the display, showing that the station has been preset. LOUD POP SOFT BEAT Notes: · A previously preset station is erased when a new station is stored. · Preset station is erased when the power supply to the memory circuit is interrupted (for example, during battery replacement). If this occurs, preset the station again. 6 You can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. To tune in the favorite station EX The unit automatically turns on (if it has been off). Your favorite station is tuned in -- except when the tape is playing. · If you press the button again, the last received station will be tuned in. 7 ENGLISH Tuning into a preset station Other convenient tuner functions MO /I ATT 35WX4 DETACHABLE CONTROL PANEL PROG KS-F100 MO SOUND LOUD SEL SCAN DISP 1 2 3 4 5 6 EX AM FM SCAN Scanning broadcast stations When you press SCAN while listening to the radio, station scanning starts. Each time a broadcast is tuned in, scanning stops for about 5 seconds (tuned frequency number flashes on the display), and you can check what program is now being broadcast. If you want to listen to that program, press the same button again to stop scanning. Selecting FM reception sound When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive: Press MO while listening to an FM stereo broadcast. The sound you hear becomes monaural but reception will be improved. Insert a cassette. When one side of the tape reaches its end during play, the other side of the tape automatically starts playing. (Auto Reverse) 3 PROG Select the tape direction. · Press the both buttons at the same time. Each time you press the button, the tape direction changes ) and reverse ( ). alternatively ­ forward ( To stop play and eject the cassette Press 0. Tape play stops and the cassette ejects from the cassette compartment. You can hear the last received station. · You can also eject the cassette with the unit turnd off. To fast-wind a tape Press either ¡ or 1. The tape will be wound in the direction of the arrows (¡ or 1). To restart playback, press ¡ or 1 lightly. 9 ENGLISH Listening to a tape SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Turning on/off the loudness function The human ear is less sensitive to low and high frequencies at low volumes. The loudness function can boost these frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at low volume levels. Each time you press LOUD, the loudness function turns on/off alternatively. LOUD LOUD Selecting preset sound modes You can select a preset sound adjustment suitable to the music genre. Each time you press SOUND, the sound mode changes as follows. Note: Normally the + and ­ buttons work as the volume control buttons.
