(1) Faucet Filter Assembly, including filter cartridge (2) Faucet adaptor, collar and gasket (3) A parts bag containing: - an additional size faucet adaptor, and gaskets - battery (Eveready #2032, 3V) faucet adaptor and gaskets Faucet Filter with cartridge faucet adaptors battery SAFETY GUIDES / SPECIFICATIONS Be sure to follow all guides in this manual when connecting and using the filter, and when servicing the inner cartridge. Use the filter on a potable, safe-to-drink, home COLD water supply only. The filter cartridge will not purify water, or make it safe to drink. DO NOT use on HOT water, microbiologically unsafe water, or on water of unknown quality. Installation must comply with all state and local laws and regulations. (see product data sheet) 125psi 100_F 1/2 gal/min 4 months or 250 gallons 1 year . . .tastes, odors, and lead 2 INSTALL THE BATTERY Using a wide bladed screwdriver, or a dime, pry the top off of the filter cap at the slotted opening. Take the battery (included in the parts bag) and wipe clean with a cloth. Then, install in the cap as shown in FIG. 1, with the (+) side of the battery facing inward toward the center of the cap, and against the protruding metal blade. If installed backwards, the electronic indicator (see page 6) will not work. Replace the top on the cap and snap into place. FIG. 1 battery CONNECT THE FILTER TO A FAUCET 1. Remove the aerator from the faucet, FIG. 2. 2. Looking at FIG. 3 A, B and C, on page 4, determine which arrangement of adaptor(s), collar and gasket(s) fits the threads on your faucet. If the thread on your faucet is different, get the adaptor you need from your local hardware store or plumbing supply house. The adaptor you buy must have 55/64" - 27 UNS threads on one side to fit the included chrome adaptor. as needed to fit your faucet 55/64 ­ 27 UNS threads CONNECT THE FILTER TO A FAUCET 3. Install the fittings, as needed, on the faucet. If you use the additional adaptor (FIG. 3C) be sure to place the 3/4" and 13/16" gaskets as shown. Before tightening, be sure the collar is on the chrome adaptor. Be careful not to cross-thread, and hand tighten only. Note: You can use a penny to tighten the chrome adaptor. It is internally slotted to accept a coin. FIG. 3 GASKETS (actual sizes) A 55/64­27 UNS external gasket, 13/16" dia. Using the 15/16" gasket as shown in FIG. 4, page 5, fasten the faucet filter to the adaptor(s) installed in step 3. You can position the faucet filter as shown in FIG. 4, with the water diverter control to the right. You can also turn the filter so the control is to the left, or position as otherwise desired. Turn the collar onto the filter, being careful not to cross-thread. Tighten securely, but do not overtighten and break the filter. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, CALL TOLL FREE, 1-800-426-9345 continued 4 CONNECT THE FILTER TO A FAUCET 5. CHECK FOR LEAKS: Open the cold water faucet and adjust to a medium flow. Check for leaks around the collar and adaptors, and tighten if needed to stop the leak. CAUTION: Never direct hot water into the filter. Be sure the water diverter is closed when using hot water. 6. PURGE FILTER CARTRIDGE: With the cold water faucet still open, turn the water diverter control on the fil ter, to route water through the filter cartridge (FIG. 6, page 6). Allow wa ter to run through the filter for about 1/2 minute to purge small, harmless carbon particles from the cartridge. FIG. 4 collar gasket, 15/16" dia. WHAT YOUR DELUXE FAUCET FILTER WILL DO Activated carbon is a mineral having a FIG. 5 great ability to adsorb and hold tastes and odors. It is used to remove many different bad tastes and/or odors from drinking water. Some of these are chlorine, metallic, marshy or swampy, tastes and odors. COLD WATER IN The cartridge in your water filter is filled with a blend of activated carbon, and a special resin for removing LEAD from water. When the cold water faucet, and the filter water diverter control are opened, water is directed through the filter cartridge. You are provided with fresh tasting, clean smelling, reduced lead drinking water. JOpen the cold (never use hot) water faucet and adjust to a medium flow. USING YOUR FAUCET WATER FILTER FIG. 6 sure to purge a new filter CAUTION: Never direct hot water into the filter. Be sure the water diverter is closed when using hot water. JHold a glass, cup, pitcher, or other container under the filtered water outlet. JOpen the water diverter control on the filter, and catch the water in the container. When full, close the cold water faucet and / or water diverter control. filtered water outlet water diverter control (open) glass ELECTRONIC INDICATOR The electronic indicator, on the filter cap, shows the current status of the filter cartridge. When the battery is first installed, the indicator quickly passes through a test by lighting all words and bar segments. Then, the words, FILTER OK, and 4 bar segments are on. If not, the battery is installed backwards or is dead. After about 1 month, 1 of the 4 bar segments goes off. After 2 months of use, a second bar goes off. One bar remains on after 3 months. Finally, after about 4 months, all bars are off and FILTER CHANGE flashes. It is time to replace the filter cartridge. FILTER CARTRIDGE STATUS B NEW' AFTER ABOUT' 1 MONTH AFTER ABOUT' 2 MONTHS AFTER ABOUT' 3 MONTHS AFTER ABOUT' 4 MONTHS FILTER OK ­­ ­­ ­­ ­­ FILTER OK ­­ ­­ ­­ FILTER OK ­­ ­­ FILTER OK ­­ FILTER CHANGE REPLACING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE The replaceable filter cartridge provides high quality filtered water for about 4 months. If the water supply to your house is poor quality, the cartridge may not last that long. Always replace the cartridge when the electronic indicator first begins to flash FILTER CHANGE, or if you notice the return of bad taste and/or odor in the filtered water. Do the following steps TO REPLACE THE CARTRIDGE. 1. Be sure the sink water faucet is closed. 2. Holding the water filter base with 1 hand, turn (counterclockwise ) the filter cap off. 6 REPLACING THE FILTER CARTRIDGE (cont.) 3. Remove and cartridge. discard the filter 4. Remove the new filter cartridge from the package and set into place in the filter base. 5. Using a wide blade screwdriver, or a dime, carefully pry the top off of the filter cap (FIG. 1, page 3). Remove the battery, wipe clean, then replace it in the cap again to reset the 4 month filter life timekeeper. Be sure to install with the (+) side of the bat tery facing inward toward the center of the cap, and against the protrud ing metal blade, as shown in FIG. 1. Replace the top on the cap. Note: FILTER OK and 4 bar segments should show in the electronic indicator. If not, the battery is installed backwards, or is dead. Battery life is about 1 year. New batteries are available from Sears, and many other retail stores, Eveready #2032. 6. Be sure the o-ring seal on the filter base is wetted with water. Then, turn the cap on and tighten snugly. 7. PURGE FILTER CARTRIDGE: With the cold water faucet on, open the water diverter control on the filter, to route water through the filter car tridge. Allow water to run through the filter for about 1/2 minute to purge small, harmless carbon par ticles from the cartridge. The filtered water is now ready to use. cap filter cartridge base o­ring seal water diverter control (closed) TROUBLESHOOTING CHECK LIST Filtered water has bad taste and/or odor. Fine, black particles in filtered water. No water flow from the filter. Electronic indicator flashing ``filter change'' ­ The filter cartridge needs replacing. ­ Water diverter control not turned to direct water into the filter. ­ This is harmless carbon ``fines'' from a new cartridge. Discard the first few cupfuls of filtered water after changing the cartridge. ­ Cold water faucet not opened and/or water diverter control not turned to direct water into the filter. ­ The 4 month (about) filter life time has expired.
