Load the batteries as shown. 2. Replace both batteries with fresh alkaline batteries when the FLASH-READY LIGHT 14 takes more than 30 seconds to come on. Battery Tips · Remember to keep spare batteries with you at all times. · Read and follow all warnings and instructions supplied by the battery manufacturer. · Keep batteries away from children. · Do not try to take apart, recharge or short circuit the batteries, or subject them to high temperature or fire. · Store batteries in their original packaging prior to use. · Close the lens cover to conserve battery power. 8 Loading the Film For excellent all-around results for indoor and outdoor picturetaking, use ISO 400-speed film. For use in bright daylight, you can use ISO 100- or ISO 200speed film. If in sunlight, turn your back to the sun and load the film in the shade of your body. 1. Push up on the FILM-DOOR LATCH 24 to open the FILM DOOR 18 . _0005AA 2. Insert the flat end of the film cartridge over the FILM SPINDLE 12 . Push the other end of the film cartridge down into the FILM CHAMBER 22 until it fits securely into place. Do not force it into the film chamber. 9 3. Pull out the film leader until the tip reaches the FILM-LOAD MARK 19 . Lay the film flat between the film-guide rails. If the end of the film extends past the film-load mark, gently push the excess back into the cartridge. FILM TIP HERE FILM-GUIDE RAILS FILM-LOAD MARK 10 4. Close the film door and check the FILM WINDOW 17 (you should see the film information through the window). Do not open the film door after you start taking pictures or you will ruin the film. 5. Slide the LENS COVER 8 completely open to uncover the LENS 9 and to turn the FLASH 5 on. GA24 100/21" 11 6. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON 1 three times or until the PICTURE COUNTER 2 shows "1." (If the picture counter does not move, reload the film into the camera and repeat the film loading instructions.) NOTE: The picture counter starts at "S," and each dot within the increments of 5 represents one picture. 12 Taking Pictures 1. Slide the LENS COVER 8 completely open to uncover the LENS 9 and to turn the FLASH 5 on. 2. For a sharp picture stand at least 4 ft (1.2 m) from your subject. 4 ft. (1.2 m) 3. Look through the VIEWFINDER EYEPIECE 15 to see your subject. VIEWFINDER 13 4. Hold the camera steady and gently press the SHUTTER BUTTON 1 to take the picture. After you take the picture, the film automatically advances to the next picture frame. Be careful not to cover the flash and picture-taking lens with your fingers. 5. Close the lens cover when you finish taking pictures. 14 Using the Self-Timer 1. Use a tripod (TRIPOD SOCKET 20 ) or place the camera on another firm support. 2. Slide the LENS COVER 8 completely open to uncover the LENS 9 and to turn the FLASH 5 on. 3. Slide the SELF-TIMER SWITCH 10 4. Press the SHUTTER BUTTON 1 to start the timer. The self-timer will run for approximately 8 seconds before the picture is taken. The self-timer switch will return to the off position when finished. NOTE: To cancel the self-timer selection before the picture is taken, close the lens cover or press the shutter button until the timer stops. into latched position. 15 Tips for Better Pictures · Keep your pictures simple. Move close enough to your subject so it fills the viewfinder but not closer than 4 ft (1.2 m). · Take pictures at the subject's level. Kneel down to take pictures of children and pets. · Hold your camera vertically to capture tall, narrow subjects, such as waterfall, skyscraper, or a single person. · Add interest to your picture by framing it with a tree branch, a window, or even the rails of a fence. · Keep the sun behind you. This provides the best subject illumination. 16 Taking Flash Pictures In dim light, such as indoors or outdoors in heavy shade, or on dark overcast days, you need flash. Your camera features an automatic flash that fires when you need it. 1. Slide the LENS-COVER 8 completely open to uncover the LENS 9 and to turn the FLASH 5 on. 2. Take the picture when the FLASH-READY LIGHT 14 glows. GA24 100/21" 17 3. Keep the subject within the distance range for the speed of film in your camera. Don't take pictures beyond the maximum distance or your pictures will be dark. 4­10 ft (1.2­3.0 m) Safe Range 100-speed film 4­14 ft (1.2­4.3 m) Safe Range 200-speed film 4­19 ft (1.2­5.8 m) Safe Range 400-speed film Beyond 10 ft picture will be dark 4. Hold the camera steady and gently press the SHUTTER BUTTON 1 to take the picture. Be careful not to cover the flash and picture-taking lens with your fingers. IMPORTANT: To prevent battery drain, turn off the flash by closing the lens cover when you are not using it. Beyond 14 ft picture will be dark Beyond 19 ft picture will be dark 18 Red-Eye Reduction Some people`s eyes (and some pets') can reflect flash with a red glow. To minimize red eyes in flash or fill-flash pictures, use the red-eye-reduction feature. 1. Slide the LENS COVER 8 completely open to uncover the LENS 9 and to turn the FLASH 5 on. 2. Partially depress the SHUTTER BUTTON 1 . The RED-EYEREDUCTION LAMP 4 will stay on as long as the shutter button is partially depressed. 3. Have your subject look directly at the red-eye-reduction lamp before you take the picture. 4. Press the shutter button completely down to take the picture. Using Fill Flash and Off Flash Use "fill flash" to lighten shadows. Bright light indoors or outdoors from backlit subjects can create dark shadows (especially on faces) in high-contrast scenes. Use "flash off" when you do not want to use the flash, especially indoors where flash is prohibited, such as in theaters and museums, 19 or in dim lighting situations. Use a tripod or place the camera on another firm support, and for best results, use ISO 400-speed film. 1. Slide the LENS COVER 8 completely open to uncover the LENS 9 and to turn the FLASH 5 on. 2. Push and hold the FILL-FLASH/ FLASH-OFF SWITCH 6 in 3. While still holding the switch in desired position, press the SHUTTER BUTTON 1 to take the picture. 4. You must rewind the film before you open the film door or you will ruin the film. 1. Open the FILM DOOR 18 and remove the film. Using Mid-Roll Rewind If you don't want to take pictures on the entire roll of film, you can rewind the film manually by following steps 1 and 2 (see Unloading the Film). Date and Time Imprinting Press the Mode Button (a) to select the desired data type; then take the picture. Following the exposure, the Print Indicator (d) blinks in the data panel for approximately two-to-three seconds to confirm imprinting. (d) M 24 Mode Selection Use the Mode Button (a) to change the data display as shown. M M M Setting Data 1. Press the Mode Button (a) to select the desired data type. 2. Use the Select Button (b) to move between different parts of the displayed data. With the data displayed, pressing the select button in succession causes the settings for year, month, and then day to blink. In time mode, pressing the select button successively causes the hour minute, and then the colon to blink. 25 3. Press the Adjust Button (c) to change the blinking display. Remove the battery cover and insert a new 3-volt lithium CR 2025 (+ side down) battery. 3. Replace the battery cover and reattach the screw. Reset the date and time.
