The station will provide you with the following information: " the time; " weather forecasts in the form of icons; " inside and outside temperatures; " the outside humidity as a percentage; " minimum and maximum day temperatures; " warnings if the humidity reaches certain levels or temperature limits are exceeded. The outside temperature and humidity are recorded using a 434-MHz wireless thermal sensor. No cable connection is needed. The Lexibook® SM1100 weather station can accommodate up to four remote sensors. One sensor is provided with the product. Please read all the instructions carefully so that you fully understand your weather station's functions. The Lexibook® SM1100 model is equipped with a liquid crystal display. During use, this display may appear defective, especially if you are using the weather station for the first time or moving it. If this occurs, place the weather station flat on a table for ten minutes. This will allow the liquid crystals to fill up any empty spaces. English 3 INSTALLING THE BATTERIES PLEASE BE SURE YOU INSERT BATTERIES INTO THE REMOTE UNIT BEFORE YOU INSERT BATTERIES INTO THE MAIN UNIT. 1. Battery compartment lid. 2. "AA" type batteries. 3. "AAA" type batteries. 4. Battery compartment. Copyright © Lexibook 2002 SM1102 English 7/2/04 4:21 PM Page 4 REMOTE UNIT English 4 The remote unit functions on two "AAA" batteries. To insert or replace these batteries, follow these steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Remove the stand with the handle. Loosen the screw at the back of the compartment and remove the lid. Insert the alkaline batteries, taking care to follow the polarity indications. Replace the lid on the unit and secure it by tightening the screw firmly. If the "battery low" indicator flashes on the LCD, you must replace the batteries. The unit is now ready to receive the telecode and house code. (Please refer to the section on CONFIGURING THE TRANSMITTER OR REMOTE TRANSMITTERS). IF THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW -18°C (0°F), THE BATTERY IN THE REMOTE UNIT IS LIABLE TO FREEZE. IN THESE CONDITIONS, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU BRING THE REMOTE UNIT INDOORS. THE BATTERY MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU THE FREEZING POINT OF THE BATTERY. MAIN UNIT The main unit functions on two "AA" batteries. To insert or replace these batteries, follow these steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. Remove the cover from the back of the unit. Insert the batteries, taking care to follow their polarity. Replace the cover. Once the batteries have been inserted, the main unit enters "receive" mode in order to memorise the telecode. When the frame around the telecode flashes, it means that memorisation is in progress; this will take between three and five minutes. The main unit will then update the temperature and humidity being read by the remote unit. INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING THE TRANSMITTER OR REMOTE TRANSMITTER(S) On a smooth surface, use the handle attached to the transmitter. The quality of the surface may however alter the range of the data transmission. If, for example, the transmitter is placed on a metal surface, the range may be reduced or increased as a result. For this reason, it is not a good idea to install the transmitter on a metal surface or anywhere in the vicinity of a large metal surface. Before determining the position of the transmitter, ensure that the main unit can receive the signals sent by the transmitter. The transmitter housing has two buttons on the back. * RESET - used to initialise the transmitter codes. * SET - used to change the house code, which ranges from "1" to "15" and telecode (1 to 4) associated with the transmitter. 2. Once the batteries are inserted, the house code "1" will start to flash. Press "SET" button as often as is needed to display the desired house code. Wait a seconds for the chosen house code to be confirmed. The code represents frequency of the signals transmitted by the remote unit to the main unit. the the few the WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU KEEP THE ORIGINAL HOUSE CODE SET AT 1. 3. The house code range extends from "1" to "15". Please ensure that all the transmitters on your weather station are set to the same house code. 4. Once the house code has been chosen, another figure to the right will flash; this is the telecode. Use the SET button to select the telecode (1 to 4) for each of the transmitters. It allows the main unit to identify the different remote units. Therefore, choose a different code for each one of the remote units. 5. Confirm this number by simply waiting a few seconds. 6. Once the telecode and house code have been defined, do not alter either code. If you do, you will have to repeat the above procedure in full. OPERATION " " The temperature and relative humidity being reported will be displayed alternately. This data will also be transmitted to the receiver at regular intervals. RECEPTION AT 434 MHz The SM1100 weather station receives the outside temperature data by radio transmission at 434 MHz. Please read the following instructions carefully before deciding where you will install the remote unit and the main unit of the SM1100. Copyright © Lexibook 2002 5 English WE RECOMMEND THAT THE TRANSMITTER IS PLACED AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE MAIN UNIT IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE ANY INTERFERENCE. SM1102 English 7/2/04 4:21 PM Page 6 Installing the SM1100 main unit and the wireless remote unit. English 6 1. The transmission range from the remote unit to the main unit is in the region of 23-30 m (in an open space). These figures may vary with the environment and the level of interference. 2. The main unit and the remote unit should be located a minimum of 2 metres away from any source of interference. 3. Do not place the units close to a metal window frame. 4. Any electrical device in the vicinity using a radio frequency of 434 MHz may cause interference. 5. Extremes of temperature may also reduce the transmission range. If the temperature falls very low (below -25°C or -13°F) for a long period, transmission power will be too low because of the alkaline batteries. In these conditions, keep the remote unit indoors and wait for the temperature to rise again. MAIN UNIT 1. Channel button. 2. Alarm, AM/PM, °C/°F button. 3. Mode/snooze button. 4.
