Operate the All-In-One. Hold paper as it exits. Lift to place or remove an item on the scanner glass. Make sure paper feeds correctly. Note: Insert the USB cable into the USB connector before connecting to the computer. 10 Using the control panel 1 2 3 Use this button 1 To Make a color copy. 2 Open the All-In-One Center to preview the scan on the computer screen. 3 · Turn the All-In-One on or off. · Cancel a print job. · Reset the All-In-One. 11 Understanding the All-In-One software The All-In-One software includes these components: · · · · Lexmark Imaging Studio (for quick access to each task) Lexmark All-In-One Center (for managing tasks and print options) Lexmark Fast Pics (for quick digital photo selection and printing) Lexmark Photo Editor (for improving photo size, composition, and quality) · Print Properties (for changing printer settings) · Lexmark Solution Center (for troubleshooting, maintenance, and cartridge ordering information) Using the Lexmark Imaging Studio There are several ways to open the Lexmark Imaging Studio: · Click Start Programs Lexmark 2300 Series Lexmark Imaging Studio. · Double-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio shortcut located on the desktop. Note: The Lexmark Imaging Studio icon can be added to the desktop by dragging the icon from the Start Programs Lexmark 2300 Series Lexmark Imaging Studio menu. · Right-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon in the system tray (often located in the bottom right corner of the computer screen), and select Lexmark Imaging Studio. 12 Lexmark Imaging Studio task buttons These buttons can be used to go directly to the Lexmark All-In-One Center. Click To Browse & Print Photos Details Opens the Lexmark All-In-One Center to the Saved Images tab so you can locate and select photos to reorganize or print. To print, select the photo(s) and click Next to open the Fast Pics program. You can also select from a Creative Tasks list. For more information, see "Printing photos" on page 34. Opens a small dialog where you can scan and e-mail a photo or find and e-mail a saved photo. For more information, see "E-mailing a scanned image or document" on page 41 or "E-mailing a saved image or document" on page 41. Opens the Lexmark All-In-One Center to the Scanning & Copying tab where you can scan text to a text-editing program. For more information, see "Editing scanned text using Optical Character Recognition (OCR)" on page 42. Opens the Lexmark All-in-One Center to the Scanning & Copying tab where you can scan photos or documents to be stored on your computer. For more information, see "Scanning an item" on page 37. Share Photos Scan & Edit Text (OCR) Scan 13 Click To Copy Details Opens the Lexmark All-In-One Center to the Scanning & Copying tab where you can make a copy of your photos or documents. For more information, see "Making a copy" on page 43. Opens a small dialog that lets you select whether you want to scan and send a fax, or receive a fax or view settings/history. For more information, see "Sending a fax" on page 47 or "Receiving a fax" on page 48. Fax Click To Find out more about what you can do with the software. Use the tools in the Lexmark Solution Center to keep your All-In-One working optimally. For more information, see "Using the Lexmark Solution Center" on page 25. Visit the Lexmark Web site. 14 Using the Lexmark All-In-One Center There are several ways to open the Lexmark All-In-One Center: · Through the Lexmark Imaging Studio. For more information, see "Using the Lexmark Imaging Studio" on page 12. · Click Start Center. Programs Lexmark 2300 Series All-In-One · Right-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon in the system tray (often located in the bottom right corner of the computer screen), and select Lexmark 2300 Series All-In-One Center. · Press the button on the All-In-One control panel. Note: The last method opens the All-In-One Center and also makes a preview of the item on the scanner glass. 15 Scanning & Copying tab Use the Scanning & Copying tab to perform tasks with images you scan or copy. From this section Preview Now Scan You can Click Preview Now to view an image of what will be printed or copied. · Select a program to which you want to send the scanned images. · Click Scan Now to begin scanning. · Click See More Scan Settings to view all settings: ­ Select what type of image is being scanned. ­ Select a scan quality. ­ Select to Display Advanced Scan Settings. · Select the quantity and color of the copies. · Click Copy Now to begin copying. · Click See More Copy Settings to view all settings: ­ Select a quality setting. ­ Select a blank paper size. ­ Select the size of the original. ­ Lighten or darken the copies. ­ Reduce or enlarge the copies. ­ Select to Display Advanced Copy Settings. Choose from a variety of creative ideas: ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ Repeat an image several times on a page. Enlarge or reduce an image. Print an image as a multiple-page poster. E-mail an image. Fax using a PC modem. Save an image on the computer. Save multiple photos. Edit text found in a scanned document. Modify an image with a photo editor. Copy Creative Tasks Note: For more information about the Scanning & Copying tab, click Help at the top of the screen. 16 Saved Images tab Use the Saved Images tab to perform tasks with images that are saved on the computer. Note: You must select an image before making selections on the Saved Images tab. Click Show Folders to browse to the folder where your photos are stored, and click Hide Folders to continue. From this section Open With Photo Prints You can Select a program to which you want to send the saved image. · Print documents or single photos. · Click Next to open Fast Pics after selecting photos. · Click Show More Printing Options for more choices: ­ Select the quantity and color of the copies. ­ Click Print Now to print the copies. ­ Select a quality setting for the copies. ­ Select a paper size. ­ Lighten or darken the copies. ­ Reduce or enlarge the copies. ­ Choose to Display Print Settings. · Print an album page with photos of various sizes. · Enlarge or reduce an image. · Print an image as a multiple-page poster. · E-mail an image. · Fax using a PC modem. · Edit text found in a scanned document. · Modify an image with a photo editor. Creative Tasks Note: For more information about the Saved Images tab, click Help at the top of the screen. 17 Maintain/Troubleshoot link The Maintain/Troubleshoot link provides you with direct access to the Lexmark Solution Center. Clicking Maintain/Troubleshoot lets you choose from these topics: · · · · · · · Maintain or fix quality problems Troubleshoot All-In-One problems Device status and ink levels More printing ideas and how-to's Contact information Advanced (skin, voice, and communication options) View the software version and copyright information Help Link The Help link provides you with instant access to the Help program. Click the Index button, and use the Find function to locate more information about the All-In-One or its software. Using Lexmark Fast Pics Lexmark Fast Pics is an application that is part of the All-In-One Center and supports photo printing. To open Lexmark Fast Pics: 1 Open the All-In-One Center. For more information, see "Using the Lexmark All-In-One Center" on page 15. 2 Click the Saved Images tab. 3 Click Show Folders to browse to the folder where the saved images are stored. 4 Click Hide Folders to close the folder window. 5 Click to select the photos you want to print. 6 From the Photo Prints... area, click Next. 18 Using Lexmark Fast Pics to print photos 1 Open Lexmark Fast Pics. For more information, see "Using Lexmark Fast Pics" on page 18. 2 If necessary, click Change Folder to browse to the folder where your photos are stored. 3 Click to place a check mark next to each photo you want to print. 4 If you would like to edit your photos, click Edit. 5 Use the editing tools to edit your photo: · · · · Red Eye Auto Fix Crop Rotate 6 When you are done editing, click Done. 7 Save the photos as new separate files, or replace the original files with the edits. Note: To continue without saving, click Continue without saving. 8 Select a Size for each photo. 19 9 Select a Paper size in printer. 10 Select the Number of copies. 11 Click the Print Now button to print the photos. Using the Lexmark Photo Editor To open the Lexmark Photo Editor, click Start Programs Lexmark 2300 Series Lexmark Photo Editor. You can also open the Lexmark Photo Editor from the All-In-One Center: 1 Select the Saved Images tab. 2 Click Show Folders to browse to the folder where the saved images are stored. 3 Click Hide Folders to close the folder window. 4 Select the photo(s) you want to edit. 5 From the "Open With..." drop-down menu, select Lexmark Photo Editor. 6 Click Open Now. 20 Lexmark Photo Editor task menus From Quick Fixes You can · · · · · · · · · · · · · Remove red eye caused by light reflection. Fix the photo with one click. Crop the image. Rotate the image. Flip the image. Image Adjust Adjust the color depth. Adjust the color balance. Colorize the image. Colorize the image to sepia tones. Adjust the Brightness/Contrast. Adjust the blur. Adjust the sharpness. Despeckle (blur) the image to remove dust and scratches. · Adjust the exposure. · Adjust the color level. Image Size · Change the units of measurement. · Resize the image. · Crop the image. · Select an area by dragging a box around it. This is for text box placement and cutting and copying areas. · Add text. · Fill pixels with color. · Draw with a pencil tool. · Draw with a line tool. · Erase areas. · Paint areas with a paintbrush tool. · Pick up a color using the eyedropper. Drawing Tools 21 Using Print Properties Print Properties is the software that controls the printing function. You can change the settings in Print Properties based on the type of project you want to create. You can open Print Properties from almost any program: 1 From the program "File" menu, click Print. 2 From the Print dialog, click the Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup button. The Print Properties screen appears along with the "I Want To" menu. Changes made to the settings from the print dialog apply only to the file you have open. 22 Print Properties can also be accessed from the Printers folder without opening any other program: 1 Select Start or Settings Printers or Printers and Faxes. Select Start Control Panel Printers and Faxes. Preferences. Printers and Other Hardware 2 Right-click Lexmark 2300 Series, and select Printing 3 Make the changes you want, and click OK. Changes made to the printer settings from the Printers folder become the default settings for most programs. The I Want To menu The "I Want To" menu appears when you open Print Properties. It contains a variety of task wizards--printing a photograph, printing an envelope, printing a banner, printing on both sides of the paper, printing a poster--to help you pick the correct settings for the project. Click See more printing ideas for more options. Close the menu for a full view of the Print Properties dialog. 23 Print Properties tabs All of the print settings are on the three main tabs of the Print Properties software: Quality/Copies, Paper Setup, and Print Layout. Quality/Copies tab From Quality/Speed Paper Type Multiple Copies Select Quick Print, Normal, or Photo, depending on the quality of output you want. Quick Print is the fastest option. Your paper type from the menu options · The number of copies you want to print · Collate Copies if you want to print more than one copy of a document. This option prints all the pages of the first copy, and then all the pages of the second copy, and so on. · Print Last Page First if you want to print the pages in reverse order Select Automatic Image Sharpening to sharpen the image automatically based on image content. Paper Setup tab From Paper Size Select Paper, Envelope, Banner, or Borderless, and then select the size specific to the paper type. If the paper size is not listed, select Custom Size. Portrait or Landscape Orientation 24 Print Layout tab From Layout Duplexing Select Normal, Banner, Mirror, N-up, Poster, Booklet or Borderless · Two-Sided to print the document on both sides of the page · Side Flip or Top Flip to set which way the pages of the finished documents turn Note: If you select Side Flip, the pages of the document turn like the pages of a magazine. If you select Top Flip, the pages turn like the pages of a legal pad. Using the Lexmark Solution Center To open the Lexmark 2300 Series Solution Center (LSC): · Click Start Programs Lexmark 2300 Series Lexmark Solution Center. · Right-click the Lexmark Imaging Studio icon in the system tray (often located in the bottom right corner of the computer screen), and select Lexmark 2300 Series Solution Center. 25 Lexmark Solution Center tabs From this tab Printer Status (Main dialog) You can · View the status of the All-In-One. For example, while printing, the status is Busy Printing. · View the ink levels of the print cartridge. · View an indicator showing if there is a cartridge problem. · Access the Lexmark Web site. Learn how to: · Use basic features. · Print, scan, copy, and fax. · Print banners, iron-on transfers, photos, envelopes, and other items. · Find and change settings. Troubleshooting Maintenance · Learn about the current status of the All-In-One. · Solve All-In-One problems. · · · · · · Install a new print cartridge. View shopping options for new cartridges. Print a test page. Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Align to fix blurry edges. Troubleshoot other ink problems. How To Contact Information Advanced Learn how to contact Lexmark on the Web and by phone. · Change the appearance of the Printing Status window, or turn printing voice notification on or off. · Change the network printing settings. · Participate in Lexmark Connect. · Obtain software version information. Note: For more information, click Help at the bottom of the Lexmark Solution Center screen. 26 Loading paper and original documents Loading paper into the paper support You can load up to 100 sheets of plain paper, depending on the thickness of the paper. 1 Place the paper against the right side of the paper support. Note: Do not force the paper into the All-In-One. 2 1 2 Squeeze the release tab, and slide the paper guide to the right until it rests against the edge of the paper. Note: If you are using A4 or letter size paper, adjusting the paper guide may not be necessary. 27 Loading specialty media Follow these guidelines when loading specialty media: Load Up to 100 sheets of inkjet paper (depending on the thickness) Make sure · The print side is facing you. · The paper guide rests against the edge of the paper. Up to 10 iron-on transfers · The print side (blank side) is facing you. · The paper guide rests against the edge of the iron-on transfers. · You follow the loading instructions on the iron-on transfer packaging. Up to 25 sheets of photo/ · The glossy or coated side is facing you. glossy paper · You use photo paper that is made for inkjet printers. · If the paper came with instructions, you read them carefully. · You load the photo paper vertically against the right side of the paper support. · The paper guide rests against the edge of the photo paper. Note: To prevent smudging, remove each photo as it exits the All-In-One, and then let it dry before stacking. 28 Load Banner paper Make sure · You remove any paper from the paper support before inserting banner paper. · You select A4 or letter size Banner paper in Print Properties. See "Changing print settings" on page 33. Note: Failure to choose the correct paper size will cause a paper jam. · You place a stack of banner paper on or behind the All-In-One, with only the number of sheets you need to print the banner. · You load the leading edge of the banner paper into the All-In-One against the right side of the support, as shown. · You squeeze and slide the paper guide to the left edge of the banner paper. · If the cards came with instructions, you read them Up to 25 sheets of carefully. greeting card stock, postcards, or photo cards · The print side is facing you. · The cards are loaded vertically against the right side of the paper support. · You do not force the cards into the All-In-One. · You squeeze and slide the paper guide to the left side of the cards. 29 Load Up to 20 transparencies Make sure · The rough sides of the transparencies are facing you. · The paper guide rests against the edge of the transparencies. Note: Since transparencies require more drying time, we recommend that you remove each transparency as it exits, and allow it to dry to avoid ink smudging. Up to 100 sheets of · If the paper came with instructions, you read them coated or premium paper carefully. · You load the paper vertically against the right side of the paper support. · If there is a watermark on the paper, you place the mark facing away from you. · You do not force the paper into the All-In-One. · You squeeze and slide the paper guide to the left side of the paper. 30 Load Up to 10 envelopes Make sure · The print side is facing you. · The envelopes are loaded vertically against the right side of the paper support. · The stamp location is in the upper left corner. · The paper guide rests against the edge of the envelopes. Note: Do not load envelopes with: · Holes, perforations, or deep embossing · Metal clasps, string ties, or metal folding bars · Exposed flap adhesive 31 Placing documents on the scanner glass 1 Open the top cover of the All-In-One. 2 Place the item you want to scan or copy face down on the glass. Make sure the longer edge of the document is parallel to the front of the All-In-One. Note: Make sure the corner of the document fits securely in the front right corner of the scanner glass. 3 Close the top cover. 32 Printing Printing a document 1 Load paper. For more information, see "Loading paper into the paper support" on page 27. 2 With the document open, click File Print. If you want to change print settings, see "Changing print settings" on page 33. 3 Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup, and select the "I Want To" menu to select a print wizard for a project such as printing an envelope or a banner. 4 From the Wizard, click OK. 5 From Print Properties, click OK. 6 From the Print dialog, click Print. Changing print settings 1 With the document open, click File print settings. Print. 2 Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup to customize 33 The Print Properties dialog appears. 3 Click one of the tabs to change the print settings. Note: For detailed descriptions of the Print Properties tabs, see "Print Properties tabs" on page 24. 4 After making the changes in Print Properties, click OK at the bottom of the screen to return to the Print dialog. 5 Click OK or Print to complete the task. Printing photos 1 Load photo paper with the print side facing you. For more information, see "Loading specialty media" on page 28. 2 With the photo open, click File print settings. Print. 3 Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup to customize The Print Properties dialog appears. Note: If you are using the Lexmark Photo Editor, select View All Printer Settings to view Print Properties. 4 From the Quality/Copies tab, select Photo. 5 From the Paper Type area, choose a paper type from the drop-down menu. Note: Photo/glossy or coated paper is recommended for printing photos. 6 From the Paper Setup tab, select the paper size and orientation of the photo. 7 From the Print Layout tab, select the layout of the photo. 8 When you are finished customizing the photo, click OK. 9 Click OK or Print to complete the task. 34 Printing borderless photos 1 Load photo paper with the print side facing you. For more information, see "Loading specialty media" on page 28. 2 Open the All-In-One Center. Printing other projects The "I Want To" menu provides wizards for creating projects. You can print a photo, print on an envelope, print a banner, make a poster, create a booklet, or print a greeting card. 1 With the document open, click File print settings. Choose whether to sharpen or blur the images. Adjust the brightness of the image. Adjust the color correction curve (gamma) of the image. Image Enhancements Image Patterns · Smooth the conversion of a gray image to a black and white dot pattern (dither). · Remove image patterns from magazines or newspapers (descreen). · Select whether to process with Best quality or Best speed. · Reduce more or less of the background noise on the color document. Note: For more information, click Help at the bottom of the screen. 39 Previewing items before scanning From the computer 1 Place the item on the scanner glass. When the document has finished processing, it will open the program to which you chose to send the image. 40 E-mailing a scanned image or document 1 Open the Lexmark Imaging Studio. Copying photos 1 Place the photo face down on the scanner glass. For more information, see "Placing documents on the scanner glass" on page 32. 2 Load photo paper with the print side facing you. For more information, see "Loading specialty media" on page 28. 45 3 Open the Lexmark All-In-One Center. For more information, see "Using the Lexmark All-In-One Center" on page 15. 4 From the Scanning & Copying tab, click Preview Now. 5 Adjust the dotted lines to fit around the part of the image you want to print. 6 From the Copy area, select Photo. 7 Select a copy quantity and color. 8 To further customize the photo, click See More Copy Settings. 9 When you are finished customizing the settings, click Copy Now. Copying 4x6 photos 1 Place the 4x6 photo face down on the scanner glass. For more information, see "Placing documents on the scanner glass" on page 32. 2 Load photo paper with the print side facing you. For more information, see "Loading specialty media" on page 28. 3 Press and hold the button for three seconds. The All-In-One prints a 4x6 copy of your photo. 46 Faxing Sending a fax 1 Place the document face down on the scanner glass. For more information, see "Placing documents on the scanner glass" on page 32. 1 Open the Lexmark Imaging Studio. For more information, see "Using the Lexmark Imaging Studio" on page 12. 2 Click the Fax button. The Fax dialog appears. 3 Click Scan and send a fax. The Lexmark All-In-One Center appears on the Scanning & Copying tab. 4 If you want to see a preview, click Preview Now in the upper right corner of the Lexmark All-In-One Center. An image of the scanned item appears in the preview section. 47 Note: This is only a quick preview. You scan the image in a later step. 5 Click Next. 6 Follow the instructions on the computer screen to complete the task. Receiving a fax To set up your computer to receive a fax: 1 Open the Lexmark Imaging Studio. For more information, see "Using the Lexmark Imaging Studio" on page 12. 2 Click the Fax button. The Fax dialog appears. 3 Click Receive a fax or view settings/history to open the fax software. Note: Faxes can be received only when the fax software is open. When a fax is received, you can double-click the fax in the status window to view it. 4 Click the printer icon to print the fax. 48 Networking the All-In-One Overview A network is a group of computers or computer systems linked together for the purpose of sharing resources, such as printers, files, or an Internet connection. The All-In-One is network-capable and can be networked in one of two ways: · Using the peer-to-peer method · Using the point-and-print method Note: The All-In-One cannot scan across a network. Peer-to-peer Requirements: · You must install the driver software on all computers that will use the All-In-One. · The host computer must be on any time the client wants to print. See "Setting up a network printer with the peer-to-peer method" on page 50. Point-and-print Requirements: The host computer must be on any time the client wants to print. See "Setting up a network printer with the point-and-print method" on page 51. 49 Setting up a network printer with the peer-to-peer method With this method, the printer driver is fully installed on each client computer. Network clients retain control of driver modifications. The client computer handles the print job processing. 1 Follow the instructions on the Lexmark 2300 Series Setup sheet to install the hardware and software on the host computer. 2 From the host computer, Click Start 4 Select the network connection. 5 Click Properties. Settings Control Panel. 3 Select Network and Dial-up Connections. 6 Make sure a check mark appears next to File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. If no check mark appears, click the box next to File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. 7 Click OK. 8 From the client computer, insert the All-In-One software CD. 9 Follow the instructions on the client computer screen. 10 Select USB cable when asked how the All-In-One is connected to the computer. 11 Select Peer to Peer when asked how the All-In-One is connected to the network. 12 Repeat steps 8 through 11 for each of the client computers. 50
