Thisusuallyappears onthesonar'sdisplay as random patterns ofdotsor lines. Inseverecases, it can completely cover the screen with black dots, or caUse the unit operate erratically, or not at all. INTRODUCTION TheLCG-2400 the latestmember ofthe Lowrance familythat combines is a high performance sonarwitha wide, highdefinition screen. Using menu featuresand 'soft-key"operation, theLCG-2400 is also easy to use.The wide screen shows theunderwater worldwith high resolution and detail. The displayand keyboard are also lighted for nightoperation. The LCG2400 has digital boat speed, surface water temperature, and distance travelled (log)screens. SPECIFICATIONS Dimensions TransmitterFrequency TransmitterPower Display Toeliminate orminimizetheeffects of electrical noise, firsttryto determine the cause. With the boat at rest in thewater, the firstthing you shoulddo isturn all electrical equipment on theboatoff. Make certain the engineis off, also. Turn your LCG-2400 on, then turn off ASP (Advanced Signal Processing). There shouldbe asteadybottomsignalon the display. Now turn on eachpieceofelectrical equipment on the boat and viewtheeffect on thesonar's display. For example, turn onthebilgepump and viewthe sonardisplayfor noise. If no noise is present, turnthepump off, then turn onthe VHFradio andtransmit. Keep doing thisuntil all electrical equipment has been turned on, theireffectonthesonardisplay noted, thenturnedoff. If youfind noise interference froman electrical instrument, trolling motor, pump,or radio, trytoisolatethe problem. You canusually reroutethesonar unit's power cable and transducer cable away from the wiring that is causingthe interference. VHF radio antennacables radiate noisewhen transmitting, so be certain to keep the sonar's wires away from it. You may need to route the sonar unit'spower cabledirectlyto the battery to isolate it from otherwiring on theboat. If no noisedisplayson the sonar unitfromelectrical equipment, then make certain everythingexceptthe sonar unitisturnedoff, then starttheengine. Increase the RPM with the gearshift in neutral. If noise appearson thO display, the problem could be one of threethings;sparkplugs, alternator, or tachometer wiring. Try using resistor spark plugs, alternatorfilters,or routing the sonar unit's power cable away from engine wiring. Again, routing the power cable directly to the battery helps eliminate noise problems. Makecertain to usethe in-line fuse supplied with the unitwhen wiring the power cableto the battery. When no noiseappears on the sonar unitafterall of the abovetests, then the noise source is probablycavitation. Many novices or persons with limited experience make hastysonarinstallations whichfunctionperfectly in shallowwater, orwhen the boat is at rest. In nearlyall cases, the cause ofthemalfunction will be the location and/orangle ofthetransducer. The faceofthetransducermust be placed in a location that hasa smooth flow of waterat all boatspeeds.
