Directives: - 73/23 or 19.2.73 (Low Voltage Directive) and subsequent modifications; - 89/336 or 3.5.89 (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive) and subsequent modifications. 21 Safety instructions It is most important that this instruction book should be retained with the appliance for future reference. Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another owner, or should you move house and leave the appliance, always ensure that the book is left with the appliance in order that the new owner can get to know the functioning of the appliance and the relevant safety information. This information has been provided in the interest of your safety. You MUST read it carefully before installing or using the appliance. q Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the machine yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or serious malfunctioning. Contact your local consumer services department. Always insist on genuine spare parts. Disposal Dispose of the dishwasher packaging material correctly. All packaging materials can be recycled. Plastic parts are marked with standard international abbreviations: >PE< for polyethylene, e.g. sheet wrapping material. >PS< for polystyrene, e.g. padding material (always CFCfree). >POM< for polyoxymethylene, e.g. plastic clips. Cardboard packaging is manufactured from recycled paper and should be deposited in the waste paper collection for recycling. As and when you cease to use your dishwasher and withdraw it from service, your should render it unserviceable before having it disposed of. Warning! Children at play could lock themselves in your dishwasher or otherwise endanger their lives. Therefore cut off the power supply cable and make the door closing device unusable to prevent children from being trapped inside. For the disposing of the appliance please take it to a recycling centre or to your dealer who will, for a small contribution to the costs, dispose it for you. Installation q Check your dishwasher for any transport damage. Never connect a damaged machine. If your dishwasher is damaged, you should contact your supplier. For safety reasons it is dangerous to alter the specifications or attempt to modify this product in any way. Any electrical and plumbing work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified and competent person. Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable. The sides of the dishwasher must never be drilled to prevent damage to hydraulic components. q q q q Child safety q q This appliance is designed to be operated by adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper with the controls or play with the product. Packaging parts may be dangerous for children, who could even be suffocated! You should therefore keep all packaging well away from children. The water in your dishwasher is not for drinking. Detergent residues may still be present in your machine. Keep children well away from your dishwasher when the door is open. Keep all detergents in a safe place out of children's reach. q q Economical and ecological dishwashing q q q Ensure that the water softener is correctly adjusted. Do not pre-wash under running water. Select the wash programme to suit the nature and degree of the soiling on the dishes. Do not use more detergent, special salt and rinse aid than is recommended in these operating instructions and by the manufacturer of the respective product. q q Your dishwasher in day-to-day use q Items that are contaminated by petrol, paint, steel or iron debris, corrosive, acidic or alkaline chemicals must not be washed in this dishwasher. Under no circumstances should you open the door whilst the appliance is in operation, especially during the washing phase, hot water may escape. However, if the door is opened, a safety device ensures that the machine stops. Only use products (detergent, salt and rinse aid) specifically designed for use in dishwashers. Long bladed knives stored in an upright position are a potential hazard. Long and/or sharp items of cutlery such as carving knives must be positioned horizontally in the upper basket. When finishing loading or unloading close the door, as an open door can be a hazard. Do not sit or stand on the open door. Isolate the appliance from the power supply and turn off the water supply after use. Upper basket IN143 The control panel Function push buttons: in addition to the dishwashing programme selected and "half load", the following functions can also be set with the help of these buttons: water softener setting, deactivation/activation of the inflow of rinse aid, deactivation/activation of the audible signals. Function push button 1 Function push button 2 Function push button 3 The set of the water softener Deactivation/reactivation of the inflow of rinse aid Deactivation/reactivation of the audible signals The digital display indicates: - the level of hardness to which the water softener is set - if the audible signals are activated/deactivated - if the rinse aid inflow is activated/deactivated - the delay start - the approximative remaining time of the running programme - fault codes concerning malfunction of the dishwasher Indicator lights: have the following meanings: salt refilling indicator light, illuminates when the salt has run out rinse aid refilling indicator light, illuminates when the rinse aid has run out end of programme: illuminates when the washing programme has ended "Half load push button": this option is useful and economical when only a few dishes need washing. The prewash phase is automatically excluded when this option is selected. Remember to load both baskets. The corresponding indicator light will come on when the "half load" option is selected . With programmes: 1 (Rinse and Hold), 4 (Quick wash 30'), 8 (Delicate 45°C no prewash) and 9 (Plate warmer), the "half load" option can not be selected (push button deactivated). "Delay start" push button: this option allows the start of the programme to be delayed from 1 to 19 hours. 23 Audible signals Audible signals have been introduced to help indicate which operations the dishwasher is performing: "Setting of the water softener" "End of programme" "Something not working with the machine" Deactivation/activation of the audible signals (The dishwasher must be switched off) 1. Press the On/Off push button. The indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons will illuminate and in the digital display are visible 2 horizontal lines (--) (setting mode). 2. Press simultaneously function push buttons 2 and 3, the indicator lights of the function push buttons 1, 2 and 3 start flashing. 3. Press the function push button 3, the indicator lights of function push buttons 1 and 2 turn off while the indicator light of the push button 3 goes on flashing, the digital display indicates the current setting. Audible signals deactivated Audible signals activated (factory set) 4. To change the current setting, press again the function push button 3, the digital display will indicate the new setting. 5. To memorise the operation, switch off the dishwasher by pressing the On/Off push button or wait about 60 seconds after which the dishwasher will automatically return to setting mode. 24 Prior to using for the first time Before using your dishwasher for the first time: 1. Ensure that the electrical and water connections comply with the installation instructions 2. Remove all packaging from inside the appliance 3. Set the water softener 4. Pour 1 litre of water inside the salt container and then fill with salt 5. Fill the rinse aid dispenser 6. Run a "Rinse and Hold" programme 2. Press simultaneously function push buttons 2 and 3, the indicator lights of the function push buttons 1, 2 and 3 start flashing. 3. Press the function push button 1, the indicator lights of function push buttons 2 and 3 turn off while the indicator light of the push button 1 goes on flashing, the digital display indicates the current level and a sequence of intermittent audible signals are heard. The current level is indicated by the number visible in the display and the number of intermittent audible signals heard. Example: displayed + 5 audible signals = level 5. 4. To change the level, press push button 1. Each time the push button is pressed the level changes. (For the selection of the new level see the chart). Examples: if the current level is 5, by pressing push button 1 once, level 6 is selected. if the current level is 10, by pressing push button 1 once, level 1 is selected. 5. To memorise the operation, switch off the dishwasher by pressing the On/Off push button or wait about 60 seconds after which the dishwasher will automatically return to setting mode. Setting electronically (The dishwasher must be switched off) The dishwasher is factory set at level 5. If it's necessary to set a new level, proceed as follows. 1. Press the On/Off push button. The indicator lights of the programme push buttons will illuminate and in the digital display are visible 2 horizontal lines (--) (setting mode). Setting the water softener The dishwasher is equipped with a water softener designed to remove minerals and salts from the water supply, which would have a detrimental or adverse effect on the operation of the appliance. The higher the content of these salts, the harder your water is. Water hardness is measured in equivalent scales, German degrees, French degrees and PPM (parts per Million). The softener should be adjusted according to the hardness of the water in your area. Your local Water Authority can advise you on the hardness of the water in your area. The water softener must be set in both ways: manually, using the water hardness switch and electronically, using the function push buttons on the control panel. If your water is level 1 it is already soft and therefore there is no need to use salt. Setting manually The dishwasher is factory set at position 2. 1. Open the dishwasher door. 2. Remove the lower basket from the dishwasher. 3. Turn the water hardness switch to position 1 or 2 (see table). 4. Replace the lower basket. The dispenser, which is positioned inside the door, holds about 110 ml of rinse aid, which is sufficient for 16 - 40 dishwashing programmes, depending upon the dosage setting. If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains salt, the detergent including the salt is placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the water softener must manually be set to 1 and electronically to 1 to ensure that the special salt is taken from the detergent container only. If you are using dishwasher detergent and salt separately, the special salt is to be put into the salt container. - In this case the water softener must manually be set to 1 or 2 and electronically between 1 and 10 (depending on the water hardness in your area) to ensure that the special salt is taken from the salt container only. Rinse aid can be added in one of two ways: q q If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains rinse aid, the detergent including the rinse aid must be placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the rinse aid inflow must be deactivated. (See "Deactivation of the inflow of rinse aid"). If you are using dishwasher detergent and rinse aid separately, the rinse aid is to be put into the rinse aid dispenser. - In this case the rinse aid dosage must be set in position from 1 to 6 (see "Adjusting the dose") and the rinse aid indicator light activated. q Only use salt specifically designed for use in dishwashers. All other types of salt not specifically designed for use in a dishwasher, especially table salt, will damage the water softener. Only fill with salt just before starting one of the washing programmes (not the Rinse and Hold programme). This will prevent any grains of salt or salty water, which may have been spilt, remaining on the bottom of the machine for any period of time, which may cause corrosion. Filling with rinse aid (Rinse aid dispenser type A) 1. Open the container by pressing the release button (A). 2. Add the rinse aid until the container is completely full. The maximum level for filling is indicated by "max". To fill: 1. Open the door, remove the lower basket and unscrew the cap of the salt container by turning it anticlockwise. 2. Pour 1 litre of water inside the container (this is necessary only before filling with salt for the first time). 3. Using the funnel provided, pour in the salt until the container is full. 4. Replace the cap making sure that there is no trace of salt on the screw thread or on the gasket. 5. Screw on the cap tightly turning it clockwise until it stops with a click. LE SA UT ZO LT SA LZ SA L SE BR07 BR14 Ensure that the lid is closed after every refill. Top up with rinse aid when the rinse aid indicator light on the control panel illuminates. SR14 The salt container will require topping up periodically. You are reminded of this by the salt indicator light on the control panel which comes on when the salt has finished. The salt indicator light on the control panel can remain illuminated for 2-6 hours after the salt has been replenished, assuming the dishwasher remains switched on. If you are using salts that take longer to dissolve then this can take longer. The function of the machine is not affected. Do not worry if water over flows from the unit when filling with salt, this is quite normal. Adjusting the dose According to the finish and drying results obtained, adjust the dose of rinse aid by means of the 6 position selector (position 1 minimum dosage, position 6 maximum dosage). Increase the dose if there are drops of water or lime spots on the dishes after washing. The dose is factory set in position 4. Reduce it if there are sticky whitish streaks on the dishes. BR09 26 Filling with rinse aid (Rinse aid dispenser type B) 1. Open the container by turning the lid (A) anticlockwise. 2. Add the rinse aid until the container is completely full. The maximum level for filling is indicated by "max". Deactivation/activation of the inflow of rinse aid (The dishwasher must be switched off) When the inflow of rinse aid has been deactivated, also the rinse aid indicator light on the control panel is automatically deactivated. 1. Press the On/Off push button. The indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons will illuminate and in the digital display are visible 2 horizontal lines (--) (setting mode). 2. Press simultaneously function push buttons 2 and 3, the indicator lights of the function push buttons 1, 2 and 3 start flashing. BR01 BR13 Ensure that the lid is closed after every refill. Top up with rinse aid when the rinse aid indicator light on the control panel illuminates. 3. Press the function push button 2, the indicator lights of function push buttons 1 and 3 turn off while the indicator light of the push button 2 goes on flashing, the digital display indicates the current setting. BR02 Clean up any rinse aid spilt during filling with an absorbent cloth to avoid excess foaming during the next wash. Only use branded rinse aid for dishwashers. Never fill the rinse aid dispenser with any other substances (e.g. dishwasher cleaning agent, liquid detergent). This would damage the appliance. 27 In daily use q q q q Check if it's necessary to refill with special salt or rinse aid Load cutlery and dishes into the dishwasher. Fill with dishwasher detergent . Select a wash programme suitable for the cutlery and dishes. Start the wash programme. q Loading cutlery and dishes Sponges, household cloths and any object that can absorb water may not be washed in the dishwasher. q Before loading the dishes, you should: - Remove large left-overs. - Soften remnants of burnt food in pans When loading the dishes and cutlery, please note: - Dishes and cutlery must not impede the rotation of the spray arms . - Load hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. with the opening downwards so that water cannot collect in the container or a deep base. - Dishes and items of cutlery must not lie inside one another, or cover each other. - To avoid damage to glasses, they must not touch. - Lay small objects in the cutlery basket. q For washing in the dishwasher the following cutlery/dishes are not suitable: - Cutlery with wooden, horn, china or mother-of-pearl handles - Plastic items that are not heat resistant - Older cutlery with glued parts that is not temperature resistant - Bonded cutlery items or dishes - Pewter or copper items - Lead crystal glass - Steel items subject to rusting - Wooden platters - Items made from synthetic fibres Open the door and slide out the baskets to load the dishes. The rows of prongs on the lower basket can be easily lowered to allow you to load pots, pans and bowls. are of limited suitability: - Only wash stoneware in the dishwasher if it is specifically marked as being dishwasher-safe by the manufacturer. - Glazed patterns may fade if machine washed frequently - Silver and aluminium parts have a tendency to discolour during washing. Left-overs, e.g. egg white, egg yolk and mustard often cause discolouring and staining on silver. Therefore always clean left-overs from silver immediately, if it is not to be washed straight after use. - Some types of glass can become dull after a large number of washes The lower basket The lower basket is designed to take saucepans, lids, plates, salad bowls, cutlery etc. Serving dishes and large lids should be arranged around the edge of the basket, ensuring that the upper spray arm can turn freely. UI88 UI90 UI91 28 The cutlery basket Long bladed knives stored in an upright position are a potential hazard. Long and/or sharp items of cutlery such as carving knives must be positioned horizontally in the upper basket. Take care when loading or unloading sharp items such as knives. In case that plates are loaded in the upper basket: load them starting from the rear positions of the basket; tilting them slightly forwards and avoiding the front positions near the door. Removable knife basket Long and/or sharp items of cutlery such as carving knives must be placed horizontally in the removable knife basket, which is positioned at the rear of the upper basket. US71 Before closing the door, ensure that the spray arms can rotate freely. UI53 Adjusting the height of the upper basket If washing very large plates you can load them in the lower basket after moving the upper basket to the higher position. Maximum height of the dishes in upper basket lower basket Cutlery should be placed in the removable cutlery basket with the handles facing downwards. If the handles protrude from the bottom of the basket, obstructing the lower spray arm, load the cutlery with the handles facing upwards. Mix spoons with other cutlery to prevent them from sticking together. For best results we recommend you to use the cutlery grid provided (if the size and dimensions of the cutlery allow it). The cutlery basket is in two parts which can be separated to give greater loading flexibility. To separate the two parts, slide them horizontally in opposite directions and pull them apart. To reassemble, reverse the procedure. UI63 With upper basket raised With upper basket lowered 20 cm 25 cm 31 cm 27 cm To move to the higher position proceed as follows: 1. Pull out the basket until it stops. 2. Carefully lift both sides upwards until the mechanism is engaged and the basket is stable. Attention! Never lift or lower the basket on one side only UI62 RC08 After loading your machine always close the door, as an open door can be a hazard. The upper basket The upper basket is designed for plates (dessert plates, saucers, dinner plates of up to 25 cm in diameter), salad bowls, cups and glasses. Arrange items on and underneath the cup racks so that water can reach all surfaces. Glasses with long stems can be placed upside down in the cup racks. Light items (plastic bowls etc.) must be loaded in the upper basket and arranged so they do not move. US47 29 Use of detergent Only use detergents specifically designed for use in dishwashers. Using no more then the correct amount of detergent contributes to reducing pollution. Prior to the start of a wash programme (not for the "Rinse and Hold" and "Plate warmer" programmes). The detergent is released during the washing phase. Please observe the manufacturer's dosing and storage recommendations as stated on the detergent packaging. Detergent tablets Detergent tablets of different brands dissolve at different speeds. For this reason some detergent tablets cannot develop their full cleaning power during short programmes. Therefore please use normal programmes with prewash when using detergent tablets. Do not place the tablets in the tub or in the cutlery basket as this will result in poorer wash results. The tablets should be placed in the detergent dispenser. Fill with detergent (Detergent dispenser type A) 1. If the lid is closed: press release button (1). The lid springs open. 2. Fill the detergent dispenser (2) with detergent. The marking indicates the dosing levels: 20 = approximately 20 ml of detergent 30 = approximately 30 ml of detergent 3. For all programmes with prewash, an additional detergent dose (5/10 g) must be placed into the adjacent chamber (3). Concentrated detergent Based on their chemical composition, dishwasher detergents can be split into two basic types: - conventional, alkaline detergents with caustic components. - low alkaline concentrated detergents with natural enzymes. The use of 50°C washing programmes in conjunction with concentrated detergents reduces pollution and is good for your dishes; these wash programmes are specially matched to the dirt-dissolving properties of the enzymes in the concentrated detergent. For this reason 50°C wash programmes in which concentrated detergents are used can achieve the same results that can otherwise only be achieved using 65°C programmes. Use of "3 in 1" combi detergent tablets General advice These products are tablets with combined detergent/rinse-aid and salt functions. DE19 DE22 4. Close the lid and press until it locks in place. 1. Before using these products you should first check that the water hardness in your supply is compatible with the use of these products as per the detergent manufacturers (on the product packaging). 2. These products should be strictly used according to the detergent manufacturers instructions. 3. If you encounter problems when using 3 in 1 products for the first time then please contact the detergent manufacturers care line (the telephone number is given on the product packaging). Fill with detergent (Detergent dispenser type A) 1. Open the dispenser lid by pulling the catch (D). The lid springs open. 2. Fill the detergent dispenser with detergent. The marking indicates the dosing levels: Min = approximately 15 g of detergent Max = approximately 30 g of detergent 3. Close the lid and press until it locks in place. Special advice When using combination products, the rinse-aid and salt indicators are no longer useful. It may be helpful therefore to switch the rinse aid off - please note that only some dishwashers have this facility - and select the lowest possible setting for water hardness. For more information please refer to the instruction manual. If you decide to turn back to the use of the standard detergent system we advise that you: q q Refill both the salt container and rinse aid dispenser. Switch the water hardness setting to the highest possible position and run a normal washing programme without a load. Readjust the water hardness setting again according to the hardness of the water in your area. DE17 DE02 q 4. Plate warmer 1 hot rinse 25 0,7 5 (1) Ideal for washing crockery and cutlery of breakfast and dinner (fresh soil). Characterised by a short duration. This is the perfect daily programme, made to meet the needs of a family of 4 persons who only wish to load breakfast and dinner crockery and cutlery. (2) Testing programme for EN 50242 (see "Hints for Test Centres). This programme, developed for the use of detergents with enzymes, allows you to achieve, with reduced consumption of energy the same cleaning results that would otherwise be obtained only with the 65°C programmes and conventional detergents. To compensate the lower temperature, the duration of the programme has been extended. (3) The consumption values are intended as a guide and depends on the pressure and the temperature of the water and also by the variations of the power supply. "AUTO" washing programme During the "AUTO" washing programme the amount of soil on the dishes is determined by how cloudy the water is. If the appliance is partially loaded and the dishes lightly soiled, the "prewash"", main wash", and "rinse" phases of the programme are shorter and the water consumption level is lower. If the appliance is fully loaded and the dishes heavily soiled, the "prewash"", main wash", and "rinse" phases of the programme are longer and the water consumption level is higher. For this reason the programme duration, water and energy consumption levels can vary within the stated range for AUTO programme (see "Washing programmes chart"). During the "AUTO" programme the temperature of the main wash water is also automatically adjusted between 50°C and 65°C depending on the amount of soil on the dishes. 31 Starting a washing programme In this fully integrated appliance the controls are located on the top of the door. When selecting a programme, the door needs to be open. To cancel a washing programme in progress Open the dishwasher door. Press simultaneously the function push buttons 2 and 3 for about 2 seconds, the indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons start flashing for about 2 seconds. After about 2 seconds the indicator lights of all the push buttons will illuminate indicating that the running programme has been cancelled and that the machine has returned to setting mode. It is now possible to select and start a new washing programme. 1. Check that the baskets have been loaded correctly and that the spray arms can rotate freely 2. Turn on the water tap 3. Press the On/Off push button The indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons illuminate and in the digital display are visible 2 horizontal lines (--) (setting mode). 6. Setting the "delay start" The setting of the delay start occurs after selecting the programme. Setting the "delay start" Press the "delay start" push button, the indicator light corresponding to the push button illuminates and in the digital display appears 1h. Press the delay start push button until in the digital display will appear the number of hours desired (from 1 hour up to 19 hours). The countdown will start only once the door has been closed, until then it is possible to modify the number of hours by pressing the delay start push button. Close the door, the countdown will start automatically. The countdown will decrease with steps of 1 hour. The opening of the door during the countdown will not modify the delay start. Once the delay start has elapsed the programme will start automatically. 4. Setting and starting the programme To select a programme, press indifferently one of the two programme selection push buttons, the indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons start to flash and in the digital display will appear the number corresponding to the last performed washing programme. Using these two push buttons you have a growing (+) or a decreasing (-) order in the selection of the programme. (see "Washing programmes" chart for the number of the programme). Example: push button push button (growing order): 1P ¡ 2P ¡ 3P etc... (decreasing order): 1P ¡ 7P ¡ 6P etc... The number of the programme flashes in the digital display. The start of the programme will occur only after the closure of the door. Select also (if foreseen with the programme) the "half load" option. The corresponding indicator light illuminates. Close the dishwasher door, the programme will start automatically. To change the "delay start" As long as the washing programme has not started, you can change the number of hours for the delay start by pressing the "delay start" push button. To cancel the "delay start" As long as the washing programme has not yet started, you can cancel the delay start setted by pressing the "delay start" push button until in the digital display appears the time duration of the selected programme. The washing programme will start immediately, once closed the door. 5. To interrupt, change or cancel a washing programme Interrupt, change or cancel a washing programme in progress ONLY if it's absolutely necessary To change a programme after the start of the "delay start" If you want to change the selected washing programme after the start of the delay start you have to reset the dishwasher by cancelling the previous setting (also the setting of the delay start will be lost). Press simultaneously the function push buttons 2 and 3 for about 2 seconds, the indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons start flashing for about 2 seconds. After about 2 seconds the indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons will illuminate and in the digital display will appear 2 horizontal lines (--) indicating that the running programme has been cancelled and that the machine has returned to setting mode. It is now possible to set a new washing programme. To interrupt a washing programme Attention! Hot steam may escape when the door is opened. There is risk of scalding. Open the door carefully. q Open the dishwasher door; the programme will stop. Close the door; the programme will start from the point in which it was interrupted. To change a washing programme q Change a washing programme before closing the door; simply select a new washing programme by pressing the programme selection push buttons. Change a washing programme in progress; you have to reset the dishwasher by cancelling the running programme (see "To cancel a washing programme"). q 32 7. End of the washing programme The dishwasher will automatically stop and 3 intermittent audible signals of about 15 seconds each, alternated one from another with a pause of 3 minutes, inform you of the end of the washing programme. Hot steam may escape from the appliance when opening the door immediately after the end of the programme, therefore, open the door carefully. The end of programme indicator light is illuminated. Switch off the dishwasher by pressing the On/Off push button. Unloading the dishwasher Hot dishes are sensitive to knocks. The dishes should therefore be allowed to cool down before removing from the appliance. Leave the dishes in the dishwasher for approx. 15 minutes, with the door ajar, after the end of programme so that they dry better and will be cooler. Empty the lower basket first and then the upper one; this will avoid water dripping from the upper basket onto the dishes in the lower one. When the washing programme has finished, it is recommended that the dishwasher is unplugged and the water tap turned off. 33 Maintenance and cleaning Clean the external surfaces of the machine and control panel with a damp soft cloth. If necessary use only neutral detergents. Never use abrasive products, scouring pads or solvent (acetone, trichloroethylene etc....). Ensure that the seals around the door, the detergent and rinse aid dispensers are cleaned regularly with a damp cloth. We recommend every 3 months to run a 65°C wash programme without dishes using detergent. To ensure a correct working of the dishwasher, NEVER try to remove the upper spray arm. If residues of soil have clogged the holes in the upper spray arm, remove them with a toothpick. MA33 Cleaning the filters The filters in the base of the washing compartment are to a large extent self-cleaning. Nevertheless the filters should be checked and cleaned from time to time. Dirty filters will degrade the washing result. 1. Open the door, remove the lower basket. 2. The dishwasher filter system comprises a coarse/fine filter (A/B), a microfilter (C) and a flat filter (D). Unlock the filter system using the handle on the microfilter, and remove. 3. Turn the handle about 1 /4 a turn anticlockwise and remove. 4. Take hold of the MA32 coarse/fine filter (A/B) by the handle with the hole and remove from the microfilter (C). Prolonged periods of non-operation If you are not using the machine for any period of time you are advised to: 1. Unplug the appliance and then turn off the water. 2. Fill the rinse aid dispenser. 3. Leave the door ajar to prevent the formation of any unpleasant smells. 4. Leave the inside of the machine clean. Frost precautions Avoid placing the machine in a location where the temperature is below 0°C. If this is unavoidable, empty the machine, close the appliance door, disconnect the water inlet pipe and empty it. Moving the machine If you have to move the machine (moving house etc....): 1. Unplug it. 2. Turn the water tap off. 3. Remove the water inlet and discharge hoses. 4. Pull the machine out together with the hoses. Avoid over tilting the machine during transportation. MA36 5. Clean all filters thoroughly under running water. 6. Remove the flat filter (D) from the base of the washing compartment and clean both faces thoroughly. 7. Put the flat filter back in the base of the washing compartment. MA31 8. Place the coarse/fine filter in the microfilter and press together. 9. Put the filter combination in place and lock by turning the handle clockwise to the stop. During this process ensure that the flat filter does not protrude above the base of the washing compartment. Under no circumstances may the dishwasher be used without filters. 34 What to do, when... Certain problems are due to the lack of simple maintenance or oversights, which can be solved with the help of the instructions given here, without calling out an engineer. ...a flashing fault code appears The intervention of an alarm is indicated by a combination of flashing indicator lights, audible signals and a visible fault code in the digital display, as indicated in the following chart. Carry out the following suggested corrective actions. Fault code / malfunction - Indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons are flashing - 1 intermittent audible signal - in the digital display appears The machine does not fill with water. - Indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons are flashing - 2 intermittent audible signals - in the digital display appears The dishwasher will not drain. - Indicator lights of the programme selection push buttons are flashing - 3 intermittent audible signals - in the digital display appears Possible cause The water tap is blocked or furred with limescale. The water tap is turned off. The filter (where present) in the threaded hose fitting at the water inlet valve is blocked. The water inlet hose has not been correctly laid or it is bent or squashed. Solutions Clean the water tap. Turn the water tap on. Clean the filter in the threaded hose fitting. Check the water inlet hose connection. The siphon is blocked. Clean out the siphon. The water drain hose has not been correctly laid or it is bent or squashed. Check the water drain hose connection. Protection against flooding is active. Close the water tap and contact the consumer services department. Once the checks have been carried out, to continue the programme press one of the programme selection push buttons. If the fault code reappears contact the consumer services department. For other combinations of fault codes not described in the above chart will appear, please contact your consumer services department. ...there are problems when operating the dishwasher Fault Possible cause The dishwasher door has not been properly closed. The programme does not start The main plug is not plugged in. The fuse has blown in the household fuse box. There is a whistling noise during washing The whistling is not a cause for concern. Insert the mains plug. Replace the fuse. Use a different brand of detergent. Solutions Close the door. 35 ...the wash results are not satisfactory The dishes are not clean q q q q q q q q The wrong washing programme has been selected. The dishes were arranged in such a way as to stop water reaching all parts of the surface. The baskets must not be overloaded. The spray arms do not rotate freely due to wrong arrangement of the load. The filters in the base of the washing compartment are dirty or incorrectly positioned. Too little or no detergent has been used. Where there are limescales deposits on the dishes; the salt container is empty or the wrong level of the water softener has been selected. The drain hose connection is not correct. The salt container cap is not properly closed. The dishes are wet and dull q q Rinse aid was not used. The rinse aid dispenser is empty. There are streaks, milky spots or a bluish coating on glasses and dishes q Decrease rinse aid dosing. Water drops have dried onto glasses and dishes q q Increase rinse aid dosing. The detergent may be the cause. Contact the detergent manufacturer's consumer care line. If after all these checks, the problem persists, contact your local consumer services department, quoting the model (Mod.), product number (PNC) and serial number (S.N.). This information can be found on the rating plate located on the right hand side of the dishwasher door (see picture). S.N. :. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . RA08 Service and spare parts This product should be serviced by an authorised service engineer, and only genuine spare parts should be used. Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the machine yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or serious malfunctioning. Contact your local consumer services department. Always insist on genuine spare parts. 36 Installation instructions Any electrical and/or plumbing work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician and/or plumber or competent person. Remove all packaging before positioning the machine. If possible, position the machine next to a water tap and a drain. Do not use, for connection, old hoses which have been used in another appliance. If the machine is connected to new pipes or pipes which have not been used for a long time, you should run the water for a few minutes before connecting the inlet hose. Building-in This dishwasher is designed to be fitted under a kitchen counter or worksurface. Attention! Carefully follow the instructions on the enclosed template for building in the dishwasher and fitting the furniture panel. No further openings for the venting of the dishwasher are required, but only to let the water fill and drain hose and power supply cable pass through. The dishwasher incorporates adjustable feet to allow the adjustment of the height. During all operations that involve accessibility to internal components the dishwasher has to be unplugged. When inserting the machine, ensure that the water inlet hose, the drain hose and the supply cable are not kinked or squashed. Water inlet hose with safety valve After connecting the double-walled water inlet hose, the safety valve is next to the tap. Therefore the water inlet hose is only under pressure while the water is running. If the water inlet hose starts to leak during this operation, the safety valve cuts off the running water. Please take care when installing the water inlet hose: - The distance between the bottom edge of the safety value and the floor on which the dishwasher is standing must be at least 30 cm: - The electrical cable for the safety valve is in the doublewalled water inlet hose. Do not immerse the water inlet hose or the safety valve in water. - If water inlet hose or the safety valve is damaged, remove the mains plug immediately. - A water inlet hose with safety valve must only be replaced by a specialist or by the consumer services department. - Place the water inlet hose in such a way that it is never higher than the bottom edge of the safety valve. Levelling Good levelling is essential for correct closure and sealing of the door. When the appliance is correctly levelled, the door will not catch on either side of the cabinet. If the door does not close correctly, loosen or tighten the adjustable feet until the machine is perfectly level. Fixing to the adjacent units The dishwasher must be secured against tilting. Therefore make sure that the counter it is fixed under, is suitably secured to a fixed structure (adjacent kitchen units cabinets, wall). CS19 Water supply connections This dishwasher may be fed with either hot (max. 50°) or cold water. Nevertheless we advise you a cold water supply. A hot water supply is not always efficient with very soiled crockery as it shortens the washing programmes a lot. The dishwasher must not be connected to open hot water appliances or instantaneous water heaters. The dishwasher is fitted with safety devices that prevent the wash water returning into the drinking water system and comply with the applicable plumbing regulations. The water pressure must be within the limits given in the technical specifications. Your local Water Authority will advise you on the average mains pressure in your area. The dishwasher features fill and drain hoses which can be turned either to the left or the right to suit the installation. The water inlet hose must not be kinked, crushed, or entangled when it is being connected up. 37 Water outlet hose connection The end of the drain hose can be connected in the following ways: 1. To the sink outlet spigot, securing it to the underside of the work surface. This will prevent waste water from the sink running into the machine. 2. To a stand pipe provided with vent-hole, minimum internal diameter 4 cm. The waste connection must be at a height of between 30 cm (minimum) and 100 cm (maximum) from the bottom of the dishwasher. The drain hose can face either to the right or left of the dishwasher Ensure the hose is not bent or squashed as this could prevent or slow down the discharge of water. The sink plug must not be in place when the machine is draining as this could cause the water to siphon back into the machine. If you use a drain hose extension it must be no longer than 2 metres and its internal diameter must be no smaller than the diameter of the hose provided. Likewise the internal diameter of the couplings used for connections to the waste outlet must be no smaller than the diameter of the hose provided. Electrical connection Information concerning the electrical connection is given on the rating plate on the edge of the dishwasher's door on the right. Before plugging the appliance into the wall socket, make sure that: 1. The mains voltage and current rating at the site of installation match the nominal voltage and current rating given on the rating plate. 2. The meter, fuses, mains power supply and wall socket can all take the maximum load required. Make sure that the socket and plug are compatible without having to use any type of adaptor. If necessary, have the domestic wiring system socket replaced. To isolate the dishwasher from mains, remove the mains plug. Important! The plug must still be accessible after the appliance has been installed. In case that the electrical cable has to be replaced, please contact your local consumer services department. Safety standards require the appliance to be earthed. The manufacture accepts no liability for failure to observe the above safety precautions. CS18 Attention! Our appliances are supplied with a security device to protect against the return of dirty water back into the machine. If the spigot of your sink has a "no return valve" incorporated this can prevent the correct draining of your dishwasher. We advise you therefore to remove it. 38 Hints for test centres Testing in accordance with EN 60704 must be carried out with appliance fully loaded and using the test programme (see "Washing programmes" chart). Test in accordance with EN 50242 must be carried out when the salt dispenser and rinse aid container have been filled with salt and rinse aid respectively and using the test programme (see "Washing programmes" chart).
