Basic Setup Your new Martin bow takes little setup to get started shooting. Please read and familiarize yourself with these starting procedures before shooting. Many of these procedures may have been completed by your authorized Martin dealer. After completingthesesimplesteps,youwillbemoreaccurateandwillhavegreatersuccess fromthestart.Acarefulandthoroughinitialsetupwillmakethetuningprocessmucheasier. T h e c a b l e g u a r d r o d s h o u l d b e r o t a t e d t o provide adequate fletching clearance. Caution should be taken against over-rotating the rod as excessive clearance can cause unnecessary pressures on the limb tips andaxlebearings. Followthesesteps: 1.Visuallyalignshootingstringdownthecenterofthegrip. 2. Adjust arrow rest left or right so arrow is centered with the shootingstring. 3.Adjustcableguardsothatcablesareoff-setnomorethan neededforfletchingclearance. Onceoptimumangleisachieved,fullytightenthescrew,but donotovertighten. ·CableGuard 2 3 After your arrow rest is installed, you willneedtosetitatagoodstartingpoint to begin tuning. The easiest way to do this is to visually align the bowstring in the center of the grip section. If you are shooting your bow with a release aid, your rest will need to be centered with the bow string. During tuning, your arrowrestmayneedtobemovedinorout fromitscenteredlocation.Thisisnormal becausedifferentshootersapplydifferent pressurestothebow.Fingershooterswill needtopositiontherestsothatthepoint isabout1/8"outsidethestring.Thisisto compensateforthehorizontalbendingof thearrowuponrelease.Anarrowrestthat provides some side support, such as a cushionbuttonforthearrow,isbestfor fingershooters. ·SettingArrowRestPosition 1 FingerSetting ReleaseSetting Basic Setup Youcanquicklyandeasilysetthepositionofyourrestand nockpointusingtherestmounting,orrestmountholesinyour bow.Yourrestshouldsitlevelwiththetworestmountholes, orslidelockmountofyourbow.(Seegraphic)Whentherest placementiscorrect,youcanbeginplacingthenockset.Place anocklooselyonthestringandnockanarrow.Visuallyalignthe arrowlevelwithorslightlytailhighoftherestmountholes.Whenthe correct height is set, crimp the nock set into place. This will give you a good starting point to begin tuning your bow. ·QuickArrowRestandNockPlacement Takingatillermeasurementallowsyoutochecktherelativetension settingoftheupperandlowerlimbs.Aftersettingthedrawweighton yourbow,youwillneedtocheckthetillermeasurementtomakesure thatyouhaveadjustedyourlimbsevenly.OnallMartincompoundbows, "0"oreventillerwillshootperfectly.However,thetillermeasurement canvaryupto1/4"closeratthebottom.Thereisnosetmeasurement thatprovidespeakperformanceforeveryshooter.Tomeasureyour tiller,simplymeasurefromthelimbpocketstothestringonbothends ofthebow.Someshootersfindthatdifferenttillermeasurementsfrom "0" work better for them. It will not hurt your bow in any way if you experimentwithtiller. Note:YourPeepSightpositionandyournockpointpositioncan changewhenyouturnonelimbbolt.Takedetailedmeasurements andbesurethatyournockandpeeparecorrecteachtimeyou turnyourlimbbolts. ·SettingTheTiller When your bow is at full draw, t h e a p e x o f t h e s t r i n g s h o u l d be at the corner of your mouth. Drawlengthcaneasilybemeasured from the apex of the string at full draw tothepivotpointofthegrip.Fromthat measurementadd1¾"andyouwillhave theA.M.O.standarddrawlength. All Martin Bows are adjustable with theuseofmodules.Refertothesection that covers your specific cam style for instructionsonadjustingdrawlength. ·MeasuringDrawLength Basic Setup ·SettingNockPointWithBowSquare Place a bow square on the string and slide the square down untilitrestsonyourarrowrest.Thenplaceamoveablenockset onthestring.Usingthemeasuringscaleonthebowsquare,set thenocksetattheproperlocationonthestring.Agoodstarting pointforfingershootingis¼"high,measuringfromthebottomof thenocksetto90°onthebowstring.Startat1/8"highifyouare usingareleaseaid.Ifyoudonothaveabowsquare,youcansnap anarrowonthestringandvisuallylevelthearrow.Thencrimpyour nockset.Inapinch,thiswillgetyoutoagoodstartinglocation. CertainbowstringaccessoriesincludingD-loops,stringsilencers,andpeepsights,can reducearrowspeedbyasmuch10-15fps. ·ArrowSpeedandStringAccessories ·ChangingDrawWeight Martin bows have a fifteen pound draw weight range. Using the 3/16" allen wrench suppliedwitheachbow,youwillturnthelimbboltsclockwisetoaddweightandturncounter clockwisetoreduceweight.Onecompleteturnoneachlimbboltprovidesabout3pounds ofadjustment. TIP:Markalineoneachlimbboltinwhite-outorwhitepaintmarkertomakeiteasierto keeptrackofhowfaryouareturningeachbolt. Note:Donotshootyourbowwiththelimbboltsmorethan5turnsoutfromthe riser. ·ReplacingTheStrings Shouldyourstringneedreplacing,itisbesttogotoyourMartindealerandhaveitdone byexperts.Itisrecommendedthatyoureplaceyourstringonceayearoranytimeitshows wear.Alwaysbesurethatthestringyoureplaceitwithisofthecorrectlengthandmaterial foryourbow.WerecommendusingMartinDoubleHelixStrings. Whenproperlycaredfor,yournewMartinbowwillgiveyouyearsoftrouble-freeservice. Whenyourbowisnewitwillrequirenolubrication.Overtimeyoumayneedtolubricate yourcamstoguardagainstfrictionandnoise.UseadrylubricationsuchasTeflonspray powderorgraphitepowder.YoucanalsousewetlubesuchasMolyLubeorTri-Flow.Do notuseWD-40lubrication. Agoodruleofthumbwhencaringforyourbowistokeepitascomfortableasyouare.If itistoohotforyou,itistoohotforyourbow.Ifitgetswet,dryitoffcompletely.Periodically cleanyourbowwithawetragandmildsoaptoremovemudordust(caution:donotstore untilcompletelydry).Prolongedexposuretoextremeheatmaycausefailureinyourbow limbsandexcessivestretchinyourharnesssystem.Itwillnothurtyourbowifitisrainedon whileshooting,butmakesureitiscompletelydrybeforestoringininabowcasetoguard againstrustorcorrosion. ·CareAndStorage Cam Systems - Dyna Cam TheDynaCamSystemisuniqueamongallothersinglecamsystems.TheDynaSystem hasmodulardrawlengthadjustment,andcanbeadjustedinhalfinchadjustmentswithin eachdrawlengthmodule. ·DynaTMSingleCam ·PartsOfTheDynaCamSystem Module Screw Speed Ball Bearing Speed Ball Bearing Bottom Cam Module Idler Wheel Usingdrawlengthmodules,thedrawlengthcanbe adjustedin1"increments.Themodulescanalsobeused toadjustthelet-off.Ahighlet-offmoduleismarkedas "F".A65%letoffmoduleismarkedwitha"F/".Theslash ontheendofthesizenumberindicates65%let-off.To changethedrawlength,replacethemoduleonthecam byremovingthescrewsthatholdittothecam. NOTE:donotdrawyourbowwithoutthemodule installed.Itwilldamageyourharness. TheDynamodulesizesrangefromF-1toF-7.Asthe modulenumbersgethigher,thedrawgetslonger.The draw length can also be adjusted in 1/2" increments usingthepegsonthebackofthecam.The#2pegisthe prescribeddrawlengthforeachmodule.The#1pegis 1/2"longerandthe#3pegis1/2"shorter. ·AdjustingTheDynaCamDrawLength Cam Systems - Dyna Cam ThestringharnessonthenewDynaCam is installed according to the diagram below. Your string harness should be installed by your qualified Martin dealer. Pay close attention to how the Shooting String leaves thecam.Althoughcamrotationisnotcritical, usethisdiagramasalooserepresentationof propercamrotation. ·DynaCamStringDiagram Shooting String 2ndhalf Shooting String Split String Shooting String comes straight 0 Cam Systems - Nitrous & Nitrous-X Cam YourNitrousandNitrous-XCam Systemusesonerotatingmodule and one of 3 base cam sizes.
