DC 3000 Universal Lithium-Ion Digital Camera Battery Charger INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the Maxell DC 3000 Universal Lithium Ion Digital Camera Battery Charger. FEATURES · Precision end-of-charge voltage detection assures a full charge every time · "Top-off" function trickle charges to maintain a full charge · LED indicator displays charger mode · Defective battery detection identifies faulty battery and halts charging · Overcharge protection Important: Please read the following instructions before using the charger for the first time. Universal Battery Charging Adapter G. AC Adaptor H. 12 VDC Car Cord OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Power the DC 3000 Connect the AC Adaptor (G) plug to the Power Input Jack (A). Plug the AC Adaptor into any standard household outlet (see figure 2a). The red Power Indicator (C) will turn on. To use in a car, connect the 12V DC Car Cord (H) plug to the Power Input jack (A). Insert the cigarette lighter adaptor into the cigarette lighter socket of the vehicle (see figure 2b). The red Power Indicator (C) will turn on. Figure 2a Figure 2b MOUNTING THE BATTERY Warning: For use with Lithium Ion batteries ONLY. DO NOT use with Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) or Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. Align the contacts on your battery with the appropriate contacts on the charger. Follow the guides on your battery and the charger to slide the battery into place in the charging bay (E). For some battery models, you will either press the battery down and then slide it up (away from the indicator light panel), or you will slide the battery up and then press it down (see figures 3a and 3b). Either way, the battery should slide easily into place - if it does not, do not force the battery into place; simply realign the guides and try again. Figure 3a Figure 3b USING THE UNIVERSAL ADAPTER PLATE Some battery models will require the use of the Universal Adapter Plate (F). To install, slide the central notch on the Adaptor Plate's upper edge into the slot on the upper edge of the charging bay (E), then press down on the Plate's lower edge - the Plate will snap firmly in place (see figures 4a and 4b). To remove the Plate, pull down on the Battery/Adaptor Plate Latch (D). Figure 4a Figure 4b Before installing the battery onto the plate, check the polarity signs (+ and -) on the battery. Locate the alignment guide and polarity positions on the Universal Adapter Plate (F) for the battery you are going to charge. Pull the sliding grip at the lower side of the plate out. Install the battery so the contacts meet the contacts on the adaptor plate, while aligning the side of the battery to one of the alignment guides on the Universal Adapter Plate. Release the sliding grip gently and the battery will be securely held in place. Follow the instructions on the Universal Adapter Plate for various alignment guides and contact positions (see figures 5 to 10) Note: Make sure the battery + and - contacts align properly with the + and - contacts on the adapter plate, reversing the polarity may cause damage to the battery pack or the charger. 5a Align For: Casio, Ricoh, Canon, Olympus, Konica, Panasonic, Toshiba, Nikon, Kodak, Pentax, etc. 5b For: Nikon, EN-EL3 and equivalent. 6a Align 6b For: Nikon, EN-EL1 and equivalent, Minolta NP200 and equivalent. 7a Align 7b For: Kyocera, Konica Polaroid, etc. 8a Align 8b For: Fuji NP-80, NP-100 and equivalents, Panasonic VW-VBP10 and equivalent. 9a Align Flip up Align 9b For: Sharp BP-L226 and equivalents, Panasonic DMW-BCA & CGR-S602 and equivalents. 10a 10b CHARGING THE BATTERY As soon as the battery is properly connected, charging begins, as indicated by the green blinking light of the Charge Status Indicator (B). When charging is complete, the Charge Status Indicator stops flashing and remains solid green. At this point, the battery can be removed for use. It is recommended, however, that you leave the battery connected to the DC 3000 for another 30 minutes to ensure a full, or "topped off", charge. DEFECTIVE BATTERY DETECTION The charger has built-in defective battery detection sensors. If the battery does not attain a full charge within 8 hours, is overcharged or if it is fully discharged, the Power and Charge Status Indicators will flash. Troubleshooting Problem No Indicator Lights Possible Cause/Solution Confirm that the AC Adapter is firmly connected at both ends (wall and Power Input Jack) Confirm wall outlet is functioning Confirm that the Car Cord is firmly connected at both ends (cigarette lighter socket and Power Input Jack) Check fuse in Car Cord (under the screwoff tip of the cigarette lighter adapter) Battery is already fully charged See Note Next Page Battery mounted incorrectly Remove and remount battery Clean battery/DC 3000 contacts Power Light Only Power and Charge Status Indicators Both Blink After 8 Hours of Charge Power and Charge Status Indicators Both Blink Within 1 minute of Charge Start Defective battery Battery is overcharged See Note Next Page Defective battery See Note Next Page Hissing Noise in Normal operation due to advance Charge Mode switching circuitry NOTE: To determine if the battery is overcharged or defective, place it on the digital camera and turn the digital camera on.
