HF820 Quick Start To use your Motorola Wireless Portable Speaker HF820 with Bluetooth® technology, you need to: 1 Charge the portable speaker (see page 14). 2 Turn on Bluetooth power on your phone (refer to your phone's user's guide). 3 Turn on the portable speaker (press in and release the volume/power button). 4 Pair the portable speaker with your phone (see page 18). 1 Features 4 5 6 7 8 3 2 1 1. In the event of such interference, you may want to consult with your hearing aid manufacturer to discuss alternatives. Other Medical Devices If you use any other personal medical device, consult the manufacturer of your device to determine if it is adequately shielded from RF energy. Your physician may be able to assist you in obtaining this information. FCC Notice to Users This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. Safety and General Information 13 Using Your Portable Speaker Charging Your Portable Speaker First-Time Use: Before you can pair the portable speaker with your phone, you must charge its self-contained battery for 2 hours. Recharging: When you hear 5 rapid high tones, repeated at 20-second intervals, the portable speaker battery needs to be recharged. Over time, batteries gradually wear down and require longer charging times. This is normal. The more you use the portable 14 speaker with your phone, the less standby time the portable speaker battery has. The rechargeable batteries that power this product must be disposed of properly and may need to be recycled. Contact your local recycling center for proper disposal methods. Warning: Never dispose of batteries in a fire because they may explode. 1 Plug the Motorola charger into the portable speaker, with the charger's release tab facing up, and the portable speaker facing up. 15 2 Plug the other end of the charger into an electrical outlet. During charging, the mute button LED indicator turns on1 and remains on until charging is complete. The portable speaker battery takes approximately 2 hours to charge. 3 When charging is complete (mute button LED indicator is off), remove the charger from the electrical outlet, press the release tab, and detach the charger from the portable speaker. Note: You can use the portable speaker while it is charging. When the portable speaker is in use, the mute button LED indicator does not reflect charge status. 1. If the battery power is extremely low, it may take up to 60 seconds for the LED indicator to turn on. 16 Turning the Portable Speaker On and Off Press in and release the volume/power button to turn the portable speaker on. Press in and hold the volume/power button for 2-3 seconds to turn the portable speaker off. Note: When the portable speaker is not connected to a phone for 5 minutes, it turns off to conserve battery power. 17 Pairing Your Portable Speaker and Phone You must pair (link) your portable speaker and phone before you can use the portable speaker to make a call. With the portable speaker and phone in close proximity: 1 Turn on your portable speaker. 2 Press in and release the volume/power button to put the portable speaker into pairing mode. When the portable speaker is put into pairing mode, it beeps twice, and the call 18 button LED indicator turns on and remains lit. 3 On your Motorola phone, press M > Settings > Connection > Bluetooth Link > Handsfree > [Look For Devices]. The phone lists the Bluetooth devices it finds. 4 Select Motorola HF820 from the phone's device list, and follow the onscreen prompts to confirm your selection. 5 When prompted by the phone, enter the passkey 0000, and confirm to pair the portable speaker with the phone. When pairing is successful, the portable speaker's call button LED indicator flashes off and on. When your portable speaker and phone are paired, the portable speaker automatically 19 reconnects when it is within range of the phone. Pairing to Additional Devices Your portable speaker can store pairing information for up to 8 different Bluetooth phones. Any of the 8 paired phones can initiate a connection to the portable speaker. Phones are stored in the order entered. When you pair to more than 8 phones, the oldest phone is removed from the list. When powered on, the portable speaker will automatically initiate a connection with the last paired phone. If you want to connect the portable speaker to another phone in the paired device list, you must initiate the connection from that device. Whichever of 20 the 8 devices initiates a connection to the speaker afterwards, then becomes the last connected device. Using the Portable Speaker in a Vehicle Note: Responsible driving practices are described in the ""Wireless Phone Safety Tips"" at the back of this guide and/or at the Motorola website: www.motorola.com/callsmart. The portable speaker works best when placed on a visor using the carry case with belt/visor clip. 1 Insert the portable speaker into the holster. 2 Mount the holster to your vehicle's sun visor directly above your mouth. Ensure 21 that the portable speaker is securely fastened to the visor. Wearing the Portable Speaker The portable speaker's charging port and control buttons are exposed for ease of operation when in the holster. 1 Insert the portable speaker into the holster. 2 Use the belt clip to wear the portable speaker on your belt or other convenient location. 22 Adjusting Portable Speaker Volume Press the power/volume button up or down Up repeatedly to set the volume level. Down Using a Headset You can use the headset jack to plug an extra headset into your portable speaker. 23 Making and Receiving Calls Your portable speaker supports both Handsfree and Headset connection profiles. Accessing call functions depends on the profile(s) your phone supports. Note: Some phones do not support all features listed. See your phone's user's guide. Short pressing the call button can initiate a voice dial or redial the last dialed number, depending on the phone's settings. · Your phone and service plan must support 3-way calling and call waiting to use the functions associated with these features. Your wireless phone lets you communicate by voice and data--almost anywhere, anytime, wherever wireless service is available and safe conditions allow. When driving a car, driving is your first responsibility. If you choose to use your wireless phone while driving, remember the following tips: 30 · Get to know your Motorola wireless phone and its features such as speed dial and redial. If available, these features help you to place your call without taking your attention off the road. · When available, use a handsfree device. If possible, add an additional layer of convenience to your wireless phone with one of the many Motorola OriginalTM handsfree accessories available today. · Position your wireless phone within easy reach. Be able to access your wireless phone without removing your eyes from the road. If you receive an incoming call at an inconvenient time, if possible, let your voice mail answer it for you. 31 · Let the person you are speaking with know you are driving; if necessary, suspend the call in heavy traffic or hazardous weather conditions. Rain, sleet, snow, ice, and even heavy traffic can be hazardous. · Do not take notes or look up phone numbers while driving. Jotting down a "to do" list or going through your address book takes attention away from your primary responsibility--driving safely. · Dial sensibly and assess the traffic; if possible, place calls when your car is not moving or before pulling into traffic. If you must make a call while moving, dial only a few numbers, check the road and your mirrors, then continue. 32 · Do not engage in stressful or emotional conversations that may be distracting. Make people you are talking with aware you are driving and suspend conversations that can divert your attention away from the road. · Use your wireless phone to call for help. Dial 9-1-1 or other local emergency number in the case of fire, traffic accident, or medical emergencies.1 · Use your wireless phone to help others in emergencies. If you see an auto accident, crime in progress, or other serious emergency where lives are in danger, call 9-1-1 or other local emergency number, as you would want others to do for you.1 · Call roadside assistance or a special non-emergency wireless assistance number when necessary. If you see a broken-down vehicle posing no serious hazard, a broken traffic signal, a minor traffic 33 accident where no one appears injured, or a vehicle you know to be stolen, call roadside assistance or other special non-emergency wireless number.1 1. Touche Volume/Alimentation : permet de mettre le haut-parleur portable sous/hors tension et d'en régler le volume. 7. Haut-parleur un watt : permet d'entendre votre interlocuteur pendant un appel. 8. Renseignements généraux et de sécurité 47 Utilisation du haut-parleur portable Charge du haut-parleur portable Première utilisation : avant de pouvoir apparier le haut-parleur portable à votre téléphone, vous devez charger sa batterie intégrée pendant 2 heures. Recharge : lorsque vous entendez 5 tonalités aiguës rapides, répétées à des intervalles de 20 secondes, c'est que la batterie du haut-parleur portable doit être rechargée. 48
