Welcome Thank you for choosing the Mustek GSm@rt S40 Digital Camera. This camera is not resistant to water and should not be used outdoors in snow or rain. If accidentally dropped in water, please quickly dry it in sunlight or an air-blower. Protect this camera from excessive humidity, as it might wet the lens and produce blurry pictures. Do not attempt to disassemble the camera yourself. Always take it to an authorized service facility for repair. To store the camera, wrap it in a clean, soft cloth and place it in a cool, dry, dust-free place. 1. Package Contents Digital Camera Getting Started Guide Strap Installation CD (including camera drivers, software and User's Manual) USB Cable Video Cable Carry Bag 2. System Requirements PC/Notebook computer with Pentium 166 Mhz minimun processor and USB port. Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, CD- ROM drive, color monitor, mouse and keyboard. NOTE: For transferring still images or for video conferening,your computer must have a modem, and communication software and an internet connection. 3. Identifying The Parts Menu OSD Menu ON / OFF DISPLAY LCD, Status Icons ON / OFF Up / Zoom in / Previous Menu Enter / Playback Down / Zoom out / Next 4. Camera Settings LCD Screen Display Definition 2368X1776 2048X1536 1600X1200 1280X960 5. Power Up Battery Installation 1. Open the battery cover. 2. Insert batteries in correct polarity(+ and -) as shown on the inside of the battery door. 3. Close the battery cover. Turning the Power ON/OFF 1. Push the Power button to turn the camera on. 2. To turn the camera OFF, press the Power button until the camera beeps and the LCD screen goes blank. Sleep Mode 1. When the camera is ON and is not used for 60 seconds, it will automatically enter sleep mode to save battery power. 2. To re-activate the camera from sleep mode : Press the Power button once. The camera is ready to take pictures. 6. Taking & Playback Pictures on the Camera Taking Pictures 1. Power on the Camera. By default, the camera will be in DSC (picture) mode every time it is powered on. 2. Frame your target through the LCD display or through the viewfinder. 3. Press the UP or DOWN button to zoom in or out on your subject. 4. Press the Shutter Button to take a picture. 5. To change exposure settings, hit the "Menu" button and change the "Exposure" option to the desired setting. 6. You can also enter "Setup", as shown in Page 5 (Camera Settings) to change picture options. NOTE: The camera stores all pictures in the built-in memory or memory card. Playback Pictures 1. Press the "Enter" button. You can view your files by using the "Previous" and "Next" buttons. 2. Press "Enter" button again to return to Camera or Video mode. 7. Taking & Playback Videos on the Camera Taking Videos 1. Power on the camera. 2. Hit the "Menu" button and select "MODE". 3. Choose AVI and hit the "ENTER" button. 4. Press the Shutter button to start recording. 5. Press the Shutter button again to stop recording. Playback Videos 1. Press the "Enter" button. You can view your files by using the "Previous" and "Next" buttons. 2. Use the "Enter" button to playback an AVI movie file. 3. Press "Enter" button for 3 secs again to return to Camera or Video mode. 8. Driver and Software Installation 1. Insert Installation Disc and Select "MEGA PIXEL DSC Driver" . 2. Click "Next" . 3. Click "Next" . 4. Click "Install" . 5. Click "Finsh" . 8. 9. Install ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4.0 1. Insert installation CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive. 2. Introduction screen will appear automatically. 3. Click "ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4.0". 4. Follow on-screen instructions. Click "Next" Click "Yes" Click "Next" Click "Next" Click "Finish" 5. Re-starting your computer is recommended. NOTE: To find out more about PhotoImpression 4.0 Or how to use it, consult Online help by clicking"?" Icon or "help" on the pull -Down menu. 10. Install ArcSoft PhotoBase 3.0 1. Insert installation CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive. 2. Introduction screen will appear automatically. 3. Click "ArcSoft PhotoBase 3.0". 4. Follow on-screen instructions. Click "Next" Click "Yes" Click "Next" Click "Finish" 5. Re-starting your computer is recommended. NOTE: To find out more about PhotoBase 3.0 or how to use it, consult online help by clicking"?" Icon or "help" on the pulldown menu. 11. Install ArcSoft VideoImpression 1.6 1. Insert installation CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive. 2. Introduction screen will appear automatically. 3. Click "ArcSoft VideoImpression 1.6 ". 4. Follow on-screen instructions. Click "Next" Click "Yes" Click "Next" Click "Finish" 5. Re-starting your computer is recommended. NOTE: To find out more about VideoImpression 1.6 or how to use it, consult online help by clicking "?" Icon or "help" on the pull-down menu. 12. Install QuickTime Player 6 1. Insert installation CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive. 2. Introduction screen will appear automatically. 3. Click "QuickTime Player". 4. Follow on-screen instructions. Click "Next" Click "Yes" Click "Next" Click "Finish" Finish 5. Re-starting your computer is recommended. NOTE: To find out more about QuickTime Player 6 or how to use it, consult online help by clicking "?" Icon or "help" on the pull-down menu. 12. 13. Transferring Images When connected to a computer in Mass Storage mode, the camera will appear as a Removable Disk in the computer. Files can then be copied from the camera to the computer. (Turn on the camera and connect with USB cable . The camera will set to "Mass Storage" Mode.) Transferring pictures and video to your computer 1. Turn the camera on, then connect your camera to a computer via USB cable. 2. In Windows (ME/2000/XP), your PC will detect the camera after connection. NOTE: For Windows 98SE users, please install the installation CD first. For Windows XP For Windows ME/2000 3. Double click My Computer on the Desktop. 4. A removable disk drive appears. NOTE: For Windows XP For Windows 98SE/ME/2000 5. Double click on the Removable Disk. 6. Double click on the DCIM folder. 7. You can now drag-and-drop files to your PC. 14. Transferring Images (Cont.) Downloading photo via "PhotoImpression 4.0" 1. Double-click the "PhotoImpression 4.0" icon on the desktop. 2. PhotoImpression 4.0 introduction screen will appear. 3. Click "From Folder" button. 4. Click "Browse". 5. Click "Removable Disk DCIM" and OK. 6. Use editing tools available on-screen to modify image(s). 15. Photo and Sharing Management Using PhotoBase 3.0 1. Double-click the "PhotoBase 3.0" icon on the desktop. 2. PhotoBase 3.0 introduction screen will appear. 3. Open Album menu bar. 4. Select "Create New" and enter file name. 5. Open Album menu bar and select "Add Image". 6. Save the pictures to your computer. 7. Share and manage your pictures. 16. Video Playback Using VideoImpression 1.6 (Please change camera to PC Camera Mode) MENU \ Mode\ PC Camera 1. Double-click the "VideoImpression 1.6" icon on the desktop. 2. VideoImpression 1.6 introduction screen will appear. 3. Click "New" button. 4. Click "Capture". 5. Video will begin playing. 16. 17. Playing Movie Clips Using QuickTime Player 6 (Please change camera to Mass Storage Mode) MENU \ Mode\ Mass Storage 1. Double-click the "QuickTime Player" icon on the desktop. 2. "QuickTime Player" introduction screen will appear. 3. Open "File" menu bar and Select "Open Movie in New Player". 4. Select "My Computer". 5. Click "Removable Disk". 6. Click on the video that you wish to play. (ex. SVI-0001) 7. Movie will begin playing . 18. Uninstall Application Programs Uninstalling ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4.0 1. Proceed to Start > Programs > ArcSoft> PhotoImpression 4.0 >Uninstall. 2. Follow on-screen instructions to uninstall software. Uninstalling ArcSoft PhotoBase 3.0 1. Proceed to Start > Programs > ArcSoft> PhotoBase 3.0 >Uninstall. 2. Follow on-screen instructions to uninstall software. Uninstalling ArcSoft VideoImpression 1.6 1. Proceed to Start > Programs > ArcSoft>VideoImpression 1.6 >Uninstall. 2. Follow on-screen instructions to uninstall software. 19. 13.
