This guide provides you with detailed information on installing and getting started with your xda or xda II and xmail from O2. This preface includes the following sections: Audience Document Organization Other Useful Resources xmail for xda Getting Started Guide v Preface Audience This guide is intended for enterprise users accessing corporate applications and data using xmail from O2 and an xda or xda II. It assumes that you are familiar with the use of basic web applications. It also assumes that you have a hand-held wireless device with access to the Internet and that you are familiar with navigating the Internet using this device. Document Organization This document is divided into the following chapters: Chapter 1, xmail from O2 Requirements lists the system requirements for xmail from O2. Chapter 2, Getting Started With Your xda or xda II provides information on how to install the xmail for xda on your xda or xda II, how to register, and begin accessing your corporate data. Other Useful Resources Once you open xmail for xda, access the online help for detailed instructions and information on how to use the Inbox, Contacts, Meeting Requests, and Settings. To access the xmail for xda online help on your xda or xda II: 1. Turn on your xda or xda II. 2. Select xmail for xda from the Today screen. 3. Select the xda or xda II Start menu. 4. Select the Help option. vi xmail for xda Getting Started Guide 1 xmail from O2 Requirements xmail from O2 offers you secure, wireless access to corporate data and applications (services). xmail from O2 allows you to directly and securely access those services from your xda or xda II using xmail for xda. It supports the following browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 4 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 Service Pack 2 Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 Netscape Navigator 4.76 1-2 xmail for xda Getting Started Guide xmail from O2 Requirements Wireless Browser Support xmail from O2 supports the following wireless browsers: OpenwaveTM Wireless Browser 3.1, 3.2, and 4.1 EudoraWeb Browser 2.1 Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (for iPAQ or xda or xda II) Blazer 1.1 and above Nokia Ericsson xmail for xda Getting Started Guide 1-3 2 Getting Started With Your xda or xda II xmail for xda provides you with the complete freedom of Over the Air (OTA) connectivity to your corporate data, including corporate mail, contacts, and meeting requests. Connecting to information on your corporate desktop is easy to do once you complete the few simple tasks described in this section. Note: You cannot sync your Internet email accounts using the xmail for xda. This chapter includes the following sections: Downloading the xmail for xda Installing xmail for xda and xmail for xda II Using the Cradle Installing xmail for xda II Over the Air Registering the xmail for xda Using the xmail for xda Opening the Online Help Uninstall xmail for xda xmail for xda Getting Started Guide 2-1 Getting Started With Your xda or xda II Downloading the xmail for xda After downloading and installing the xmail for xda software, you can use your device to access emails, contacts, and meeting requests. To do so requires that you download and install the xda client on your wireless device.. Note: These instructions assume that you have already installed the ActiveSync software onto your desktop computer. If you have not already done so, complete this prerequisite now, then return to this section. For more information, refer to your xda or xda II documentation. To download xda for O2: 1. Select Settings from the task bar. 2. Go to the Download Pocket PC Smart Device Client or Download Pocket PC 2003 Smart Device client sections in the Settings page. 3. Click the Download button to open the File Download window. 4. Select Save this file to disk and click OK. 5. Find the target location to save the xda executable and click Save. Remember this location so you can launch the xmail for xda installation executable before using your xda. Installing xmail for xda and xmail for xda II Using the Cradle To install xmail for xda or xmail for xda II software onto your xda: 1. Place your xda or xda II in its cradle. Note: For information on how to connect the cradle refer to the documentation that was shipped with your xda. 2. Locate the setup file that you downloaded in the previous section. 3. Double-click the downloaded setup file. 4. Click Yes when asked if you want to continue with the installation of the client. The install program opens a setup wizard. 5. Click Next in the setup wizard to begin the installation of the client. 6. Continue through the setup wizard. 7. In the final wizard screen, create a single point for synchronizing your inbox on your xda or xda II by accepting the default checkbox for Disable the ActiveSync Inbox option. 8. Click Finish to complete the setup wizard. xmail from O2 installs the client application on your xda or xda II. 9. Refer to the screen of your device and follow any additional steps, if necessary. 10. Return to your computer monitor when you have completed the instruction, if any, on your device screen. 2-2 xmail for xda Getting Started Guide Getting Started With Your xda or xda II 11. Click OK in the Application Complete window to close all install windows on your computer monitor. Installing xmail for xda II Over the Air To install xmail for xda II onto your xda II over the air: 1. Turn on your xda II. 2. Select Start|Programs. 3. Select the icon xmail from O2. 4. Select Install Now. You can also step through the windows by tapping Learn More, then select Install Now when you are ready to install the client. 5. Select Download to install the xmail for xda II client over the air. Registering the xmail for xda After you have installed the xmail for xda, register your account on the xda or xda II before accessing information from your corporate desktop. Use the following steps to register your xmail for xda account. To register the xmail for xda account: 1. Turn on your xda or xda II. 2. Enter your xmail from O2 credentials. This information must match the information you use to sign into your xmail from O2 web client. Note: If, at any time, you change this information on your web client, go to xmail Settings to update this information on your xda or xda II. You will not be able to sync to your corporate network if this information does not match. 3. Select Register to generate a secure key for encrypting all data sent and received using your xda or xda II. 4. Set up your sync schedules and message filtering after key generation. xmail for xda Getting Started Guide 2-3 Getting Started With Your xda or xda II a. Use the options listed below. - Select the Enable Scheduled Sync checkbox. - Select the Smart Power option to help save on battery use. Synchronization occurs according to the schedule in the following table. Power remaining Weekday Sync Weekend Sync Less than 20% 20-50% More than 50% Every 2 hours Every 30 minutes Every 15 minutes from 8am ­ 5pm from 8am ­ 8pm from 7am ­ 11pm Never Every 2 hours from 8am ­ 8pm Every hour from 7am ­ 11pm - Select Use custom sync settings to set the synchronization schedule at defined intervals on weekdays or weekends. b. Select Next to continue. c. Select the checkbox to display scheduled sync status as it occurs. d. Use the dropdown options to select the message body size you will retrieve. The options are 1K, 3K (the default), and 5K. e. Use the final dropdown option to determine the messages that will be retrieved based on when they entered your inbox. The options are 1­7 days. The default is 3 days. f. Click Next to continue. 5. Select Get Started to initiate the first connection between your corporate data and your xda or xda II to download contents from your corporate Inbox, meeting requests, and contacts. Note: When you sync, the mail you download onto your xda or xda II depends on the default filter options you set up. You can change these options at any time by opening xmail for xda and selecting the Sync tab. During the first sync, xmail for xda provides you with a 4-page tour of the application including a page on Getting Started, Mail, Contacts, and Settings. Once the sync is complete, the xda or xda II opens the xmail for xda workspace, displaying your Inbox. 2-4 xmail for xda Getting Started Guide Getting Started With Your xda or xda II Using the xmail for xda After you have installed the xmail for xda and registered the account, accessing information on your corporate desktop is quick and easy. Use the following steps to begin using the xmail for xda. The steps in this procedure assume you have installed the xmail for xda on your device. If not, see Downloading the xmail for xda on page 2-2. To use the xmail for xda: 1. Turn on your xda or xda II. 2. Open the Today screen and select the Inbox. 3. Tap the Send/Receive Mail icon to send and receive the latest messages to and from your corporate and xda or xda II inboxes. 4. Refer to the Online Help on your xda or xda II for details on using the features. See Opening the Online Help on page 2-5. Opening the Online Help xmail from O2 provides complete online help for the xmail for xda. To access online help on your xda or xda II: 1. Turn on your xda or xda II. 2. Select xmail for xda from the Today screen. 3. Select the xda or xda II Start menu. 4. Select the Help option. Uninstall xmail for xda To uninstall the xmail for xda from your device: 1. Turn on your xda or xda II and connect it to the cradle or cable. 2. From your computer, choose Start|Programs|O2|xmail for xda|Uninstall. 3. Follow the wizard until the application has been removed from the device.
