Take the picture 1 Press the shutter button completely to take the picture. The green lamp indicates the focus is locked. Pictures will be recorded in the internal memory of the camera. If the optional xD-Picture Card (hereinafter called "card") is inserted into the camera, pictures will be recorded in the card. 6 Step 3 Review or Erase a Picture REVIEW OR ERASE A PICTURE a. Set the mode switch to q The last picture taken will be displayed. b. Take a closer look If you press and hold T on the Zoom button, an object can be zoomed in up to 4x. Install the software 1 Insert the OLYMPUS Master CD-ROM. 2 Windows: Click the "OLYMPUS Master" button. Macintosh: Double-click the "Installer" icon. En 3 Simply follow the on-screen instructions. b. Connect the camera to the computer 1 Connect the camera and computer using the USB cable (provided). The monitor will turn on automatically. USB cable 2 1 2 Select [PC] on the monitor, and press i. Transfer images to the computer 1 With the camera now connected, open OLYMPUS Master. The [Transfer Images] window is displayed. [Transfer Images] window 2 Select the images you want to transfer, and click the [Transfer Images] button. En [Transfer Images] button If the [Transfer Images] window is not displayed automatically: a. Click the "Transfer Images" icon on the OLYMPUS Master main menu. Click the "From Camera" icon. b. Tips · For more detailed information regarding camera setup and usage, please refer to the camera's "Advanced Manual" provided on CD-ROM. · For more details on using the OLYMPUS Master software, please refer to the (electronic) reference manual located in the OLYMPUS Master folder on your hard drive. For additional assistance, refer to the "Help" file in the OLYMPUS Master software. 9 BASIC OPERATION Holding the Camera Pictures can sometimes appear blurred as the result of moving the camera while the shutter button is being pressed. To prevent the camera from moving, hold the camera firmly with both hands while keeping your elbows at your sides. When taking pictures with the camera in the vertical position, hold the camera so that the flash is positioned above the lens. Keep your fingers and the strap away from the lens and flash. Horizontal grip Vertical grip En Shooting and Playback Modes Select the shooting mode by setting the mode switch to K or A to take pictures or set up the various shooting modes. Select the playback mode by setting the mode switch to q to display, edit or erase pictures. Mode Switch Playback Mode Shooting Mode Set the mode switch to K to take still pictures or A for movies. 10 Shooting Mode Buttons While in shooting mode, use these buttons for quick access to some of the more commonly used features. 1 2 3 6 En 5 4 1 X& button (Macro) Use macro or super macro mode when taking close-up pictures such as of a flower. 2 OF button (Exposure Compensation) Use this setting to overexpose [+] or underexpose [­] a picture. 3 Y# button (Flash Mode) Select from 4 flash modes ­ AUTO, ! (Red-eye reduction), # (Fill-in flash), or $ (Flash off). 4 i button Press to confirm settings. 5 NY button (Self-timer) Select the self-timer to delay the shot approximately 12 seconds from when the shutter button is pressed. 6 MENU button Displays the top menu on the monitor. Tips · In this manual, these symbols O/N/X/Y are used to represent which button to press on the arrow pad. (Most wideangle side) Use this mode to take pictures as close as 6 cm/2.4 in. to your subject. In % mode, the position of the zoom lens is fixed. 1 Press X& repeatedly to select [&] or [%] and press i. Exposure Compensation Mode 1 Press OF. 2 Press X/Y to set the exposure compensation value and press i. Select a [ + ] value to brighten the image or a [ ­ ] value to darken the image. +2.0 SET OK 12 Flash Modes 1 Press Y# repeatedly to select the flash mode and press i. 2 Press the shutter button halfway. When the flash is set to fire, the # mark lights. 3 Press the shutter button completely to take the picture. Flash working range: W (max.):Approx. 4.0 m (13.1 ft.) T (max.): Approx. 2.5 m (8.2 ft.) Icon Flash Mode Description The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight conditions. The red-eye reduction flash mode significantly reduces this phenomenon by emitting pre-flashes before firing the regular flash. The flash fires regardless of the available light. The flash does not fire even in low light conditions. En No Auto flash indication ! # $ Red-eye reduction flash Fill-in flash Flash off Self-Timer 1 Press NY to select [Y ON] and press i. 2 Press the shutter button fully to take the picture. The self-timer lamp lights for approximately 10 seconds after the shutter button is pressed, then starts blinking. After blinking for approximately 2 seconds, the picture is taken. Self-Timer Lamp Power Save Feature To save battery power, the camera automatically enters sleep mode and stops operating if not used for approximately 3 minutes. Operate the shutter button or zoom button to reactivate the camera. If the camera is not operated for approximately 15 minutes after the camera enters sleep mode, it automatically retracts the lens and turns off. To resume operation, turn on the power again. 13 MENUS AND SETTINGS Top Menu 1 Press the MENU button to display the camera's menu on the monitor. 2 Use the arrow pad (O/N/X/Y) and select menu items. PANORAMA Select to take panorama pictures. The Olympus xD-Picture Card (optional) is necessary for panorama shooting. RESET Select to return the changed settings to the factory default setting. SCN (Scene) Select to take pictures by adjusting the settings depending on shooting scenes or shooting conditions. SETUP Select to set the date and time, language selection and other settings. Erase All Pictures 1 Select [ERASE]>[ALL ERASE] from the top menu in the playback mode. RALL ERASE 2 Set to [YES] and press i. All the pictures are erased. If you further press W on the zoom button, the pictures will be displayed in 9 frames. Use the arrow pad (O/N/X/Y) to select a picture and press i to display it in single frame playback. 1 2 3 Index display 4 16 CONNECTING THE CAMERA Playback on a TV Use the AV cable provided with the camera to play back recorded images on your TV. Both still pictures and movies can be played back. 1 Make sure that the TV and camera are turned off. Connect the multi-connector on the camera to the video input terminal on the TV using the AV cable. Connector cover Connect to the TV's video input (yellow) and audio input (white) terminals. En Multi-Connector AV cable 2 Turn the TV on and set it to the video input mode. For details of switching to video input, refer to your TV's instruction manual. 3 Set the mode switch to q and press the POWER button to turn the camera on. The last picture taken is displayed on the TV. Use the arrow pad (O/N/X/Y) to select the picture you want to display. 17 Direct Printing (PictBridge) Using the provided USB cable, you may connect your camera directly to a PictBridge compatible printer such as the Olympus P-11 to make prints. You can print a picture with simple operations. 1 In playback mode, display the picture you want to print out on the monitor. 2 Connect one end of the provided USB cable into the camera's multi-connector and the other end into the printer's USB connector. < Button Connector cover En Multi-Connector USB Cable 3 Press the < button. Printing starts. When you are finished, disconnect the USB cable from the camera with the picture selection screen displayed. If this product proves to be defective, although it has been used properly (in accordance with the written Handling Care and Operating instructions supplied with it), during a period of two years from the date of purchase from an authorized Olympus distributor within the business area of Olympus Imaging Europa GmbH as stipulated in the authorized distributors list this product will be repaired, or at Olympus's option replaced, free of charge. To claim under this warranty the customer must take the product and this Warranty Certificate before the end of the two year warranty period to the dealer where the product was purchased or any other Olympus service station within the business area of Olympus Imaging Europa GmbH as stipulated in the authorized distributor list. During the one year period of the World Wide Warranty the customer may turn the product in at any Olympus service station. Please notice that not in all countries such Olympus service station exists. 2. The customer shall transport the product to the dealer or Olympus authorized service station at his own risk and shall be responsible for any costs incurred in transporting the product. 3. This warranty does not cover the following and the customer will be required to pay repair charge, even for defects occurring within the warranty period referred to above.
