If you insert the battery incorrectly, you will not be able to remove it. Do not use force. Contact authorized distributors/ service centers. The camera automatically sets the optimum aperture value and shutter speed. This function reduces the blur incurred by a moving subject, or camera shake when taking pictures. When the focus and exposure are locked, the green lamp lights up (focus lock), and the shutter speed and aperture value are displayed (only when the mode dial is set to h, P, h). Now press the shutter button all the way (completely) to shoot a picture. Green lamp 1/1000 F3.1 Locking the focus and then composing the shot (focus lock) Compose your picture with the focus locked, and then completely press the shutter button to shoot a picture. · When the green lamp blinks, the focus is not adjusted properly. Press the shutter button again to stop recording. EN 11 3 K button (Shooting) Selecting shooting mode/Turning the camera on Shooting mode is selected. This function is used to set the camera to turn on in shooting mode when K is pressed with the camera off. g "K/q Turning on the camera with the K or q button" (P. 27) 4 q button (Playback) Selecting playback mode/Turning the camera on The last picture taken is displayed. · Press the arrow pad to view other pictures. · Use the zoom lever to switch between close-up playback and index display. · Press to hide the information displayed on the screen for 3 seconds during single-frame playback. Switching shooting modes h Shooting pictures with automatic settings The camera determines the optimum settings for shooting pictures. [CAMERA MENU] settings such as [WB], [ISO] cannot be changed. P Set the optimum aperture value and shutter speed Button operations The camera automatically sets the optimum aperture value and shutter speed for the brightness of the subject. [CAMERA MENU] settings such as [WB], [ISO] can be changed. h Shooting pictures using digital image stabilization This function reduces the blur incurred by a moving subject, or camera shake when taking pictures. B E Shooting pictures according to the situation Use PORTRAIT and LANDSCAPE to shoot pictures with the optimal settings. f Shooting pictures by selecting a scene mode according to the situation Select from 15 available scene modes, according to the shooting conditions. [S SMILE SHOT] · When the camera detects a smiling face in shooting standby mode, 3 frames are taken in high speed sequential shooting mode automatically. You can also shoot pictures manually by pressing the shutter button in this mode. · There may be cases in which the camera cannot detect a smiling face. · When [SMILE SHOT] is selected, the self-timer lamp lights. Shooting is not available while the self-timer lamp is blinking. R Follow the shooting guide for setting SHOOTING GUIDE 1 2 3 4 5 Shoot w/ effects preview. Brightening subject. Blurring background. 1/3 Follow the shooting guide displayed on the screen to set the target items. · Press m to display the shooting guide again. · To change the setting without using the shooting guide, set the shooting mode to another one. · The content set using the shooting guide will change to the default setting by pressing m or changing the mode using the mode dial. SET OK Shoot pictures by comparing previews of different effects Exposure effects. 0.0 + 0.3 + 0.7 + 1.0 Select one of the [1 Shoot w/ effects preview.] options from the [SHOOTING GUIDE] menu to preview a live, multi-frame window on the monitor showing four different levels of the selected shooting effect. You can use the four preview frames to compare and select your desired setting/effect. · Use the arrow pad to select the frame with the settings you want, and press . The camera automatically switches to shooting mode and allows you to shoot with the selected effect. Button operations When [Exposure effects.] is selected Use XY to change the display. n Recording movies Audio is recorded with the movie. · During audio recording, only the digital zoom can be used. To record the movie with the optical zoom, set [R] to [OFF]. g "R (movies) Recording movies with or without sound" (P. 21) A This lights red during movie recording. 00:36 The remaining recording time is displayed. When the remaining recording time reaches 0, recording stops. 6 Arrow pad (ONXY) Use the arrow pad to select scenes, playback picture, and the items on the menus. 7 button This button is used to confirm your selection. EN 13 8 OF/< button Changing picture brightness (Exposure compensation)/Printing pictures Press OF/< in shooting mode, select a picture in your desired brightness with XY, and press . · Adjustable from -2.0 EV to +2.0 EV Shooting mode: Changing picture brightness F 0.0 + 0.3 + 0.7 + 1.0 Playback mode: Printing pictures Display a picture to print out in playback mode, connect the camera to the printer, and then press OF/< to print the picture. g "Direct printing (PictBridge)" (P. 29) 9 X& button OFF & Macro off Macro on Shooting pictures close to the subject Press X& in shooting mode to select the macro mode. Press for setting. Button operations % Super macro Cancels macro mode. This mode lets you shoot from as close as 10 cm/3.9 in. (when the zoom is set for the zoom-out angle) and as close as 60 cm/ 23.6 in. (when the zoom is set for the zoom-in angle) to your subject. This mode lets you shoot from as close as 5 cm/2.0 in. to your subject. The zoom position is fixed automatically and cannot be changed. Self-timer shooting 0 NY button Press NY in shooting mode to select on or off for the self-timer. Press for setting. OFF Y Self-timer off Self-timer on Cancel the self-timer. Set the self-timer. · After setting the self-timer, press the shutter button completely. Then the self-timer lamp lights for approximately 10 seconds, blinks for approximately 2 seconds, and the shutter is released. · To cancel the self-timer, press NY. · Self-timer shooting is automatically canceled after one shot. a Y# button Press Y# in shooting mode to select the flash mode. Press for setting. Flash shooting AUTO ! # $ Flash auto Redeye Fill-in Flash off The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight conditions. This emits pre-flashes for red-eye reduction. The flash fires regardless of the available light. The flash does not fire. Displaying the top menu b m button Displays the top menu. 14 EN c /S button Increasing the brightness of the monitor (Backlight boost)/ Erasing pictures Increasing the brightness of the monitor Press in shooting mode. The monitor becomes brighter. If there is no operation for 10 seconds, the previous brightness resumes. S Erasing pictures In playback mode, select the picture you want to erase, and press S. · Once erased, pictures cannot be restored. The red area is the digital zoom area. When the slider enters the red area, the digital zoom activates and the image is further enlarged.
