Introduction
Introduction
Your GPS navigator by palmOne is a global positioning system that provides detailed maps, route planning, and voice navigation to any destination within the United States or Canada. The GPS navigator by palmOne uses TomTom Navigator software and maps. This guide tells you how to set up the hardware in your car and get started using navigator.
[ ! ] IMPORTANT Before you begin, make sure that you have
installed the TomTom Navigator software and maps on an expansion card and activated the software so that it is ready to use. Refer to Read This First for instructions. For more detailed instructions on all functions, refer to the User Guide provided on CD #1.

After you install the TomTom Navigator software and maps onto an expansion card and activate the software, follow these steps to set up the device cradle and GPS receiver in your car. NOTE For information on installing the software and maps, refer to Read This First.

Attach the cradle arm to the windshield or dashboard. Windshield attachment: a. Moisten the suction cup and press it onto the windshield. b. Press down on the cradle arm lever to secure the suction cup.

Place your device in the cradle and adjust the cradle to secure it.

It's a good idea to connect the GPS receiver and your device to the car charger. When batteries are low, the GPS receiver and device cannot maintain a Bluetooth® connection.

Connect the charging cable and plug in the car charger: a. Attach the cable adapter appropriate for your device to the power cable, and then connect it to your device. b. Plug the small charging connector into the GPS receiver. c. Plug the large charging connector into the car charger.
d. Plug the car charger into the cigarette lighter socket.
NOTE If the battery light on the GPS receiver is red, the receiver is not charging. You may need to turn the ignition key for charging to occur. The battery light should be green (charging) or off (fully charged).

When you turn on the GPS receiver, the lights on the GPS receiver provide information about the battery status and the GPS satellite and Bluetooth connections.

Are you ready to travel with navigator? Before setting off on your trip, check that you have what you need: · Did you install TomTom Navigator and the maps you need onto an expansion card? Be sure to bring the card(s) with you. · Did you fully charge your palmOne device and GPS receiver? · Did you remember the car charger and cables? It's a good idea to charge the batteries while using navigator.

Turn on the GPS receiver. Make sure the receiver has access to the sky.
NOTE If the battery light is red, you need to charge the receiver. See Connecting the car charger.

Insert the card containing the TomTom Navigator software and maps into the slot on your device. Navigator starts automatically. If the card is already inserted, go to the Home and select Navigator . screen

Select the palmOne GPS receiver and follow the onscreen instructions to display the main navigator screen. When the GPS receiver establishes a satellite connection, navigator displays your current position on a full-color screen. This process may take up to 45 seconds. Done
You are now ready to use navigator.

The main screen displays your position on the map. Your position is determined by your GPS receiver. If your GPS receiver is switched off or has not yet determined a clear position from the GPS satellites, the main screen displays your last known position. The screen displays in color when your current position is known. Your position is indicated by the icon. To zoom in, select [+] in the upper-right corner. To zoom out, select [-] in the upper-left corner.

Enter the address, and then select Done. If you don't know the address, you can select a street crossing instead.
Navigator plans a route from your current GPS location to the destination you have just entered and displays a route summary.
NOTE Route planning cannot start unless the GPS receiver knows your current location. You may need to wait up to 45 seconds for a GPS connection.

Your journey information displays in the lower-right corner of the screen. Once you start driving, you begin to hear spoken driving instructions. If you miss a spoken instruction, you can tap the lowerleft corner of the screen to repeat the instructions.

When you tap the journey information in the lower-right corner of the main screen, a full-screen route summary is displayed:

Deviating from the planned route
Deviating from the planned route
If you take a different turn from the one navigator proposes, it adjusts almost instantly to the new situation. Navigator continues to guide you to your destination from your current position as fast as it can calculate.
Points of interest
Points of interest (often abbreviated as POI) are locations such as parking garages, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and airports. When planning a route, you can select a nearby point of interest as your destination. You can also ask navigator to show or hide certain POI on the main screen or on the map.
