The GPS navigator by palmOne uses TomTom Navigator software and maps. This guide tells you how to set up the hardware in your car and get started using navigator. [ ! ] IMPORTANT Before you begin, make sure that you have installed the TomTom Navigator software and maps on an expansion card and activated the software so that it is ready to use. Refer to Read This First for instructions. For more detailed instructions on all functions, refer to the User Guide provided on CD #1. GPS navigator by palmOne 1 Setting Up the Hardware Setting Up the Hardware After you install the TomTom Navigator software and maps onto an expansion card and activate the software, follow these steps to set up the device cradle and GPS receiver in your car. NOTE For information on installing the software and maps, refer to Read This First. 0 1 Snap the cradle firmly onto the cradle arm. Moisten the suction cup and press it onto the windshield. b. Press down on the cradle arm lever to secure the suction cup. Moisten the suction cup and press it onto the dashboard pad. c. Press down on the cradle arm lever to secure the suction cup. Press lever Pad Backing Continued 4 GPS navigator by palmOne Setting Up the Hardware Setting Up the Hardware 3 Place your device in the cradle and adjust the cradle to secure it. 4 Place the GPS receiver on the dashboard. NOTE To charge the batteries in your device and the GPS receiver, see Connecting the car charger. Done That's it. You are ready to start navigator. GPS navigator by palmOne 5 Connecting the car charger Connecting the car charger It's a good idea to connect the GPS receiver and your device to the car charger. When batteries are low, the GPS receiver and device cannot maintain a Bluetooth® connection. 0 1 Connect the appropriate cable adapter to your device. Continued 6 GPS navigator by palmOne Connecting the car charger Connecting the car charger 2 Connect the charging cable and plug in the car charger: a. Attach the cable adapter appropriate for your device to the power cable, and then connect it to your device. b. Plug the small charging connector into the GPS receiver. c. Plug the large charging connector into the car charger. d. Plug the car charger into the cigarette lighter socket. NOTE If the battery light on the GPS receiver is red, the receiver is not charging. You may need to turn the ignition key for charging to occur. The battery light should be green (charging) or off (fully charged). Done GPS navigator by palmOne 7 GPS receiver status lights and features GPS receiver status lights and features When you turn on the GPS receiver, the lights on the GPS receiver provide information about the battery status and the GPS satellite and Bluetooth connections. Before setting off on your trip, check that you have what you need: · Did you install TomTom Navigator and the maps you need onto an expansion card? Be sure to bring the card(s) with you. · Did you fully charge your palmOne device and GPS receiver? · Did you remember the car charger and cables? It's a good idea to charge the batteries while using navigator. 0 1 Turn on the GPS receiver. Make sure the receiver has access to the sky. NOTE If the battery light is red, you need to charge the receiver. See Connecting the car charger. Continued Battery light On-off switch GPS navigator by palmOne 9 Starting Navigator Starting Navigator 2 Insert the card containing the TomTom Navigator software and maps into the slot on your device. Navigator starts automatically. If the card is already inserted, go to the Home and select Navigator . screen 3 Select the palmOne GPS receiver and follow the onscreen instructions to display the main navigator screen. When the GPS receiver establishes a satellite connection, navigator displays your current position on a full-color screen. This process may take up to 45 seconds. Done You are now ready to use navigator. 10 GPS navigator by palmOne Using Navigator Using Navigator The main screen displays your position on the map. Your position is determined by your GPS receiver. If your GPS receiver is switched off or has not yet determined a clear position from the GPS satellites, the main screen displays your last known position. The screen displays in color when your current position is known. Your position is indicated by the icon. To zoom in, select [+] in the upper-right corner. GPS navigator by palmOne 11 Using the menu Using the menu The menu provides access to all of navigator's options. To display the menu, tap the center of the screen. Then select the city. Continued 14 GPS navigator by palmOne Planning a route to a specific address Planning a route to a specific address 4 Enter the first letters of the street name until the street you are looking for appears in the list. Then select the street. Continued GPS navigator by palmOne 15 Planning a route to a specific address Planning a route to a specific address 5 Enter the address, and then select Done. If you don't know the address, you can select a street crossing instead. Navigator plans a route from your current GPS location to the destination you have just entered and displays a route summary. NOTE Route planning cannot start unless the GPS receiver knows your current location. You may need to wait up to 45 seconds for a GPS connection. Navigator is now ready to direct you to your destination. Done Following a route After you plan a route, navigator displays the route summary. Tap the center of the screen to begin following the route. Red indicates the planned route. Your next driving instruction. Route summary The next street you will reach if you follow the driving instructions. GPS navigator by palmOne 17 Planning a route to a specific address Your journey information displays in the lower-right corner of the screen. Once you start driving, you begin to hear spoken driving instructions. If you miss a spoken instruction, you can tap the lowerleft corner of the screen to repeat the instructions. Tap here to repeat instructions. Current time Estimated time of arrival Time remaining to reach destination Current speed Distance remaining to destination 18 GPS navigator by palmOne The route summary The route summary When you tap the journey information in the lower-right corner of the main screen, a full-screen route summary is displayed: Current destination and time Battery status GPS satellite signal (select for more information) Current longitude and latitude Your route, start to finish Application version (select for more information) Total travel time Length of the route · To display a complete list of route instructions, select Route. · To browse your route map, select Map. · To return to the main screen, select Done (or select anywhere on the map). GPS navigator by palmOne 19 Deviating from the planned route Deviating from the planned route If you take a different turn from the one navigator proposes, it adjusts almost instantly to the new situation. Navigator continues to guide you to your destination from your current position as fast as it can calculate. Points of interest Points of interest (often abbreviated as POI) are locations such as parking garages, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and airports. When planning a route, you can select a nearby point of interest as your destination. You can also ask navigator to show or hide certain POI on the main screen or on the map. 20 GPS navigator by palmOne Selecting which POI categories appear on maps Selecting which POI categories appear on maps You can specify which POI categories you want displayed on maps. 0 1 2 3 4 5 In the menu, select Change preferences . Use to go to the next preferences page. Select Enable/Disable POI . Select the categories that are of interest to you. To scroll through the list, use and , or use the keyboard to search for particular items. Select Done.
