Remove fuse cover and fuse. Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 3 Amp, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type. Refit the fuse cover. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place. If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a value of 3 Amp. If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at the distribution board should not be greater than 3 Amp. Note:The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere. How to connect a plug The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L). As these colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: · Connect the blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured black. · Connect the brown wire to the terminal marked L or coloured red. · Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in the plug, marked E (or e) or coloured green (or green and yellow). Before replacing the plug cover, make certain that the cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply over the two wires. Power Supply Power Supply Whenever convenient, use the mains supply cord if you want to conserve battery life. Make sure you remove the plug from the set and wall outlet before inserting batteries. 1 Batteries (not included) Open the battery door and insert 6 batteries, type R-14, UM-2 or C-cells, (preferably alkaline) with the correct polarity as indicated by the "+" and "­" symbols inside the compartment (See 1). Replace the battery door, making sure the batteries are firmly and correctly in place.The set is now ready to operate. Incorrect use of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage and will corrode the compartment or cause the batteries to burst: Do not mix battery types: e.g. alkaline with carbon zinc. Only use batteries of the same type for the set. When inserting new batteries, do not try to mix old batteries with the new ones. Remove the batteries if the set is not to be used for a long time. Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be disposed of properly. Using AC power 1 Check if the power voltage, as shown on the type plate located on the rear of the set, corresponds to your local power supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service center. Connect the supplied switching adapter to the wall socket and the DC jack on the set. The set is now ready to use. To switch the set off completely, withdraw the power cord from the wall socket. Install the unit near the AC outlet and where the power plug can be easily reached. Disconnect the power cord from the wall socket to protect your set during heavy thunderstorms. · General Information AC power cord is used as the disconnect device. It shall remain readily operable and should not be obstructed during intended use.To be completely disconnected the apparatus from supply mains, the power cord of the apparatus shall be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely. Reduce its length if the signal is too strong. For MW, the set uses a built-in antenna. Direct this antenna for best reception by turning the whole set. Connecting earphones · You can connect headphones to the headphone socket. The loudspeakers will then be switched off. Locking the set · You can lock the set in any mode by pressing and holding LOCK until @ appears. All keys are disabled. To unlock the set ­ press and hold LOCK until @ disappears. · · · · · 2 · 3 · · Basic Operation Basic operation 1 Connect the supplied switching adapter to the wall outlet and the DC jack on the set or insert batteries as described in Power Supply. The clock information is displayed. (See 2) Press 2 to switch on the set. Press 2 again to switch to standby mode. To adjust volume, press VOLUME +/­. Helpful hints: When there is no power supply for the set, time information can still be displayed for a few minutes. After a few minutes, appears and flashes and then time information is cleared. · Radio Auto tuning Press TUNING 1 / 2 and hold it for one second; the set searches a station automatically. Sr ch appears. When a station is received, search stops and Sr chdisappears. · · 2 Helpful hints: ­ You can press any button to exit automatic search. ­ Manual tuning By using this feature, it is possible to manually tune to a specific channel frequency. In addition to antenna orienting for better radio reception, the optimum reception can also be obtained by using this feature. · In FM, MW, SW, and LW mode, press TUNING 1 / 2 to tune to stations. Helpful hints: Press 1 / 2 once to increase or decrease the frequency by 5KHz. But the frequency change is not displayed. Press 1 / 2 twice to increase or decrease the frequency by 10KHz. The frequency change displayed is +/- 0.01MHz. ­ Switching on radio 1 2 Press 2 to switch on the set. Press SOURCE to select FM, MW, SW, or LW waveband. Waveband and radio frequency are displayed (see 3). ­ ­ Radio Storing preset stations automatically · In FM, MW, SW, and LW mode, press and hold AUTO SCAN until SCAN appears. The set scans stations with strong signal strength and stores them as preset stations automatically. 5 Clock/Timer Press SET TIME once to confirm. The set exits time setting. Helpful hints: During setting time, if you press 2 or do not operate for more than 10 seconds, the set automatically exits time setting. ­ Storing preset stations manually You can store up to 10 stations for each band respectively on PRESET for easy access. 1 In FM, MW, SW, and LW mode, tune to your desired radio station (See "Auto tuning" and "Manual tuning"). Press and hold number keys to store the preset station. Helpful hints: If you have already saved a FM, MW, SW, or MW station in that preset number, it will be overwritten by a new station. Preset stations of each band do not overwrite each other. 4 5 1 2 3 Setting timer You can only set timer in standby mode. Press and hold TIMER/SET TIMER until ON appears and hour digits flash. Press VOLUME +/- to set hour. Press TIMER/SET TIMER once to confirm. Minute digits flash. Press VOLUME +/- to set minute. Press TIMER/SET TIMER once to confirm. OFF appears. Hour digits flash. Press VOLUME +/- to set hour. Press TIMER/SET TIMER once to confirm. Minute digits flash. Press VOLUME +/- to set minute. Press TIMER/SET TIMER once to confirm. 2 ­ ­ 6 7 Selecting a preset station · In FM, MW, SW, and LW mode, press NUMBER 1-10. 8 9 Viewing clock You can also view clock in tuner mode. · Press DISPLAY repeatedly. FM, MW, SW, or LW flashes. 10 Press VOLUME +/- or SOURCE to select band for timer. Preset station number flashes. 11 Press VOLUME +/- or press the desired number key to set preset station number. 12 Press TIMER/SET TIMER once to confirm. Volume level digits flash. 13 Press VOLUME +/- to set the volume level for timer. 14 Press TIMER/SET TIMER once to confirm and exit timer setting. Setting time 1 2 3 4 You can only set time in standby mode. Press and hold SET TIME until hour digits flash. Press VOLUME +/- to set hour. Press SET TIME once to confirm. The minute digits flash. Press VOLUME +/- to set minute. Clock/Timer ­ ­ When the set ON time is reached, the set jumps to the selected waveband and preset station if the set is on. is switched on the set and jumps to the selected waveband and preset station if the set is off. AUX IN Setting sleep timer You can set a certain period of time after which the set switches to standby mode automatically. Press SLEEP repeatedly to select the desire period of time (in mSLEEP). Selection is as follows: SL:90->SL:60->SL:45->SL:30->SL:15>SL:00. appears. Safety & Maintenance (See 4) Safety & maintenance information · · Place the set on a flat, hard and stable surface so that the system does not tilt. Do not expose the set, batteries, CDs to humidity, rain, sand or excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing. Adequate ventilation with a minimum gap of 15cm (6 inches) between the ventilation holes and surrounding surfaces is necessary to prevent heat build-up. Do not cover the ventilation openings with items such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc. · · · No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus. No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus. The mechanical parts of the set contain selflubricating bearings and must not be oiled or lubricated. To clean the set, use a dry cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia, benzene or abrasives as these may harm the housing.
