EngliSh Ifyourtoothpastecontainsperoxide,bakingsodaorbicarbonate (commoninwhiteningtoothpastes),thoroughlycleanthebrushhead withsoapandwateraftereachuse. 5 Electromagnetic fields (EMF) ThisPhilipsappliancecomplieswithallstandardsregardingelectromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientific evidence availabletoday. Preparing for use 1 To store excess cord, wind it round the cord storage hooks in the bottom of the charger. attaching the brush head 1 Align the front of the brush head with the front of the toothbrush handle. Match the bars on the brush head with the notches inside the top of the handle and slide the brush head onto the handle. Screwthebrushheadnutclockwiseuntilitisfirmlytightened.Ifthe brush head rattles during use, tighten the nut further. 3 Removethetravelcapfromthebrushheadbeforeyoustart to brush. charging Charge the Sonicare for at least 24 hours during the first few days of use. WeadviseyoutokeeptheSonicareintheplugged-inchargerwhennotin usetomaintainafullbatterycharge.Whenthebatteryisempty,ittakesat least24hourstofullychargetheSonicare. 6 EngliSh 1 Makesurethebottomofthehandlesitsbacksecurelyinthecharger so that it makes complete contact. - The handles of other Sonicare models do not fit in this charger and will thereforenotchargeeffectively.Donotattempttoforceahandleinto thischarger,asthiscausesdamage. Battery-low indicator , Whenthebatteryrunslow,youhear3beepsaftertheSmartimer hasswitchedoffthetoothbrush.Inaddition,thebottomLEDflashes yellowfor30seconds. Whenyouseeandhearthebattery-lowindication,3orfewer2-minute brushingsremain. KeeptheSonicareintheplugged-inchargerwhennotinusetomaintaina fullbatterycharge. Multiple-LED charge indicator Whenyouplacethehandleinthecharger,thegreenchargeindicator LEDsflashinarisingpatternasthebatterycharges.Thenumber offlashingLEDsindicatestheleveltowhichthebatteryhasbeen charged. When the battery is fully charged, the LEDs stop flashing and start burning continuously.Aboutonceaminute,thechargeindicatorLEDsgoout briefly and then go on again. This indicates that the battery is maintained atfullcharge.Thefull-chargeindicationpersistsuntilyouremovethe handlefromthecharger. , using the appliance useful tips Thebrushheadcomeswithaconvenienttravelcap.Removethetravel capfromthebrushheadbeforeyouswitchontheSonicare. Rinsethebrushheadandbristlesaftereachuse. Cleanthebrushheadweekly,includingunderthenut. AfullychargedSonicareallowsyoutobrushyourteethfor2minutes twiceadayforapproximately2weekswithoutcharging.Thismakesit easytotravelwithoutthecharger. VoltageconvertersandplugadaptersDONOTguaranteevoltage compatibility.Alwayscheckforvoltagecompatibility. EngliSh Brushing technique Follow these simple steps to maximise your brushing experience. 1 BeforeyouswitchontheSonicare,placethebristlesofthebrush headonyourgumlineata45-degreeangle. 7 45º HoldthehandlewithalightgripandswitchontheSonicare.Gently move the bristles in a small circular motion so that the longer bristlesreachbetweenyourteeth.Afterafewseconds,passthe bristles to the next section. Continue this routine throughout the 2-minutebrushingcycle. 3 To maximise the effectiveness of the Sonicare toothbrush, use light pressureandlettheSonicaredothebrushingforyou.Donotscrub. 4 Tomakesureyoubrushevenlythroughoutthemouth,divide yourmouthinto4sections:outsideupperteeth,insideupper teeth, outside lower teeth and inside lower teeth. Begin brushing thefirstsection(outsideupperteeth)andbrushfor30seconds beforemovingtothenextsection(insideupperteeth).Continue brushingtheothertwosectionsfor30secondseachuntilyouhave completedthe2-minutebrushingcycle. 5 Afterthe2-minutebrushingcycle,youcanbrieflyswitchonthe Sonicareagaintobrushthechewingsurfacesofyourteeth. 6 Press the on/off button to switch the Sonicare on or off as needed. Youcanalsobrushyourtonguewiththetoothbrushswitchedonor off,asyouprefer. Tips for specific oral care needs - Stainremoval For even better stain removal, dedicate a few seconds of extra brushing timetoareaswhereexcessstainingoccurs. - Braces Placethebrushheadata45-degreeanglebetweenthebracketsandthe gumline.Usinglightpressure,gentlymovethebristlesinasmallcircular motionsothelongerbristlesreachbetweenyourteethfor2seconds. Thengentlyrollthebrushhandlesothebristlescleanthebracketand therestofthetooth.Subsequently,passthebristlestothenexttooth. Continuethisprocedureuntilyouhavebrushedallyourteeth.Pleasenote thatbrushheadswearoutsoonerwhenusedonbraces. - Dentalrestorations UsetheSonicareondentalrestorations(suchasimplants,caps,crowns, bridges and fillings) as you do on your normal tooth surfaces. Work the bristlesroundallareasoftherestorationforthoroughcleaning. - Periodontalpockets Yourdentistordentalhygienistmayhaveindicatedthatyouhave periodontalpockets,deeppocketswhereplaquebacteriacollect.Ifthisis thecase,spendextratimebrushingtheseareasafteryouhavecompleted the2-minutebrushingcycletoimproveyourgumhealth. 45º 8 EngliSh Features Easy-start ThisSonicaremodelcomeswiththeEasy-startfeatureactivated,which helpsyougetusedtobrushingwiththeSonicare. The brushing power gently increases to full power over the first 14 brushings. TheEasy-startfeatureisactiveifyouhear2beepsimmediatelyafter youswitchontheSonicare.OncetheSonicarehasreachedoptimal brushingpower(afterthe14thbrushing),younolongerhearthe2 beepsatthebeginningofeachbrushingcycle. Note: Each of the first 14 brushings must be at least 1 minute long to move properly through the Easy-start ramp-up cycle. Note: While the Easy-start feature is activated, the Dual Speed feature (Gentle and Max speed modes) does not function.To use the Dual Speed feature immediately, deactivate the Easy-start feature. Deactivating or activating the Easy-start feature 1 Attach the brush head to the handle. Placethehandleintheplugged-incharger. 3 TodeactivatetheEasy-startfeature,pressandholdtheon/offbutton for5seconds.Youhear1beeptoindicatethattheEasy-startfeature has been deactivated. 4 ToactivatetheEasy-startfeature,pressandholdtheon/offbutton for5seconds.Youhear2beepstoindicatethattheEasy-start feature has been activated. UseoftheEasy-startfeaturebeyondtheinitialramp-upperiodisnot recommended and reduces the effectiveness of the Sonicare toothbrush in removing plaque. MakesuretheEasy-startfeatureisdeactivatedandthehandlefully charged when the Sonicare is used in clinical trials. Smartimer ThisSonicaremodelcomeswiththeSmartimerfeature,which automaticallysetsthebrushingtimetothe2minutesthatdentistsand dentalhygienistsrecommend. After2minutes,theSmartimerautomaticallyswitchesoffthe toothbrush. If you want to stop brushing briefly during a 2-minute brushing cycle, presstheon/offbutton.Whenyoupresstheon/offbuttonagain,the Smartimerresumesthebrushingcycleatthepointwhereyoustopped. TheSmartimerautomaticallyresetstothebeginningofa2-minute cycleif: youstopbrushingfor30secondsorlonger; youputthehandleinthecharger. EngliSh Quadpacer® - 1 TheQuadpacer30-secondintervaltimerensuresthatyoubrush allsectionsofyourmouthevenlyandthoroughly.At30,60and90 seconds,youhearashortbeepandnoticeapauseinbrushingaction. Thesesignalstellyoutocontinuewiththenextsectionofyourmouth. 3 Programmable Quadpacer (specific types only) TheProgrammableQuadpacerallowsyoutocustomisetheQuadpacerin 1of3ways: - Youmaychoosetokeepthedefaultsettingofa2-minutebrushing timewiththeQuadpaceractivated. - Youmaychoosetoextendthebrushingtimeby30secondsto 2.5minuteswiththeQuadpaceractivated. - Youmaychoosea2-minutebrushingtimewiththeQuadpacer deactivated. TochangetheQuadpacersetting: 1 Placethehandleintheplugged-incharger. PresstheDualSpeedControlbuttonbrieflyandnotewhichLED lights up . 3 PressandholdtheDualSpeedControlbutton.Continuetoholdthe buttonwhiletheLEDsslowlycyclethroughtheQuadpacersettings: , ThefourthLEDburnsgreen:the2-minuteQuadpacerisactive (defaultsetting). , ThetopLEDburnsgreen:the2.5-minuteQuadpacerisactive. 10 EngliSh , ThebottomLEDburnsyellow:theQuadpacerisnotactive. 4 Toselectthedesiredsetting,releasethebuttonwhentheLEDthat correspondstoyourchoicelightsup. Note: If you select the 2.5-minute Quadpacer, fewer brushings are available from a fully charged battery. Dual Speed control TheDualSpeedControlfeatureallowsyoutochoosebetween2speed settings: normal speed (`Max') for optimum brushing performance or reduced speed (`Gentle') when you desire an even more gentle brushing action. EachtimeyouswitchontheSonicare,itstartstobrushatthenormal speedsetting. 1 Toswitchfromnormaltoreducedspeed,presstheDualSpeed Control button once during brushing. Toswitchfromreducedtonormalspeed,presstheDualSpeed Control button a second time during brushing. Adistinctivetwo-tonebeepindicatesthatthespeedsettinghasbeen changed. Weadviseyoutobrushatthenormalspeedsettingtomaintainoptimal results. Note:While the Easy-start feature is activated, the Dual Speed feature (Gentle and Max speed modes) does not function.To use the Dual Speed feature immediately, deactivate the Easy-start feature (see section `Easy-start' in this chapter). EngliSh 11 Clean the brush head at least once a week, including under the nut. 3 Toremovethenut,gentlypressontherubbersealwithyourthumbs. Donotusesharpobjectstopressontheseal,asthismaycausedamage. - Pullthenutoverthetopofthebrushhead. 4 To reattach the nut, slip the nut over the brush head shaft and pull it down until it snaps home. 5 Cleananddrythehandleweekly. 6 Cleanthechargerperiodically. Unplugthechargerbeforeyoucleanit.Afteryouhavecleanedthe charger,dryitcompletelybeforeyouputtheplugbackintothewall socket. Weadviseyoutouseamildcleaningagent,waterandamoistclothto cleantheSonicare. Storage 1 Ifyouarenotgoingtousetheapplianceforalongtime,unplugit, cleanitandstoreitinacoolanddryplaceawayfromdirectsunlight. Youcanstorethecordbywindingitroundthecordstoragehooks in the bottom of the charger. replacement Brush head Replaceyourbrushheadevery6monthstoachieveoptimalresults. OnlyuseSonicarereplacementbrushheadsthataresuitableforthis Sonicaremodel. 1 EngliSh Environment Donotthrowawaytheappliancewiththenormalhouseholdwaste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection point for recycling.Bydoingthis,youhelptopreservetheenvironment.
