English 34 Additional Component Connections Lets you connect other audio and audio/visual components to the DVD micro system. Night Mode Lets you compress the dynamic range, reducing the difference in loudness between different sounds in Dolby Digital mode. Parental Control (Rating Level) Lets you set a ratings level so that your children cannot watch a DVD that has a rating higher than you set. Sleep/Wake-up Timer Enables the system to switch on/off automatically at a preset time. In a cabinet, allow about 10cm (4 inches) of free space all around the player for adequate ventilation. Do not expose your player to extreme temperatures or humidity. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects filled with liquid such as vase shall be placed on the apparatus. No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, shall be placed on the apparatus. The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newpapers, table-cloths, cur tains, et. Maintenance When a disc becomes dirty, clean it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc from the center out, in a straight line. Do not expose the player, batteries or discs to humidity, rain, sand or excessive heat (caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight). Always keep the disc tray closed to avoid dust on the lens. Environmental information All unnecessary packaging has been omitted. We have tried to make the packaging easy to separate into three materials: cardboard (box), polystyrene foam (buffer) and polyethylene (bags, protective foam sheet). Your system consists of materials which can be recycled and reused if disassembled by a specialised company. Please observe the local regulations regarding the disposal of packaging materials, exhausted batteries and old equipment. Do not use solvents such as benzene, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for colour discs. The lens may cloud over when the player is suddenly moved from cold to warm surroundings, making it impossible to play a disc. Leave the player in the warm environment until the moisture evaporates. Connections MW antenna FM antenna AC power cord IMPORTANT! ­ The type plate is located at the bottom of the system. ­ Before connecting the AC power cord to the wall outlet, ensure that all other connections have been made. ­ Never make or change any connections with the power switched on. 1 For MCD700 2 Connecting the speakers Connect the speakers to the SPEAKERS (8) terminals with two speaker cables. Right speaker to "R" and left speaker to "L", red wire to "+" and silver wire to "-". Fully inser t the stripped portion of the speaker wire into the terminal as shown. 1 For MCL707 2 Notes: ­ Ensure that the speaker cables are correctly connected. Improper connections may damage the system due to short-circuit. ­ For optimal sound performance, use the supplied speakers. ­ Do not connect more than one speaker to any one pair of +/- speaker jacks. ­ Do not connect speakers with an impedance lower than the speakers supplied. Please refer to the SPECIFICATIONS section of this manual. 35 English Speaker (right) Speaker (left) Connections Connecting antennas MW Indoor Loop Antenna Connect the supplied MW loop antenna's wires to AM AERIAL jack. Place the antenna on a shelf or attach it to a stand or wall. Connect the VIDEO OUTPUT jack to the video input jack on the TV using a video cable (yellow). OR Option 1 Connect the S-VIDEO output jack to the SVideo input jack on the TV using an S-Video cable (not supplied). OR Option 2 Use the component video cables (red/blue/ green) to connect the DVD micro system's COMPONENT video output jacks to the corresponding component video input jacks (or labeled as Pr/Cr Pb/Cb Y or YUV) on the TV. English 36 1 2 FM Indoor Antenna It is unnecessary to connect the FM pigtail antenna since it is fixed to the main unit. Extend the FM antenna and fix its ends to the wall. Notes: ­ Adjust the position of the antennas for optimal reception. ­ Position the antennas as far as possible from your TV,VCR or other radiation source to prevent unwanted interference. Option 1 Connecting the control cable Connect the serial port marked "CONTROL CABLE" at the rear of the DVD player to the same port at the rear of the power amplifier with the supplied flat control cable. Option 2 Note: ­ To avoid magnetic interference, do not position the front speakers too close to your TV. Connecting a TV You must connect a TV to your DVD micro system in order to view the DVD/VCD playback. IMPORTANT! ­ There are various ways to connect the system to a TV.You only need to make one of the best connections, depending on the capabilities of your TV system. ­ If COMPOMENT video output jacks or S-Video jack is used for video connection, the system's Component setting will need to be set accordingly. Details are shown under "Video Setup Page". Connecting the power cord After everything is connected properly, plug in the AC power cord to the power outlet. Never make or change any connection with the power switched on. Connections Connecting additional equipment IMPORTANT! ­ Some discs are copy-protected.You cannot record the disc through a VCR or digital recording device. ­ When making connections, make sure the colour of cables matches the colour of jacks. ­ Always refer to the owner's manual of the other equipment for complete connection and usage details. Digital amplifier (for example) DIGITAL IN Recording (digital) Connect the system's DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL or OPTICAL) jack to the DIGITAL IN jack on a digital recording device (such as DTS-Digital Theatre compatible, with Dolby Digital decoder). Before starting operation, set SPDIF according to the audio connection. (See "SPDIF Setup"). Connecting a digital amplifier Connect the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL or OPTICAL) port to the coaxial/optical input jack of a digital amplifier with a coaxial/optical cable (not supplied) for superior digital sound effect.
