You can switch between them by pressing the Capture/ Playback mode button at the back of the camera. Capture mode Under this mode, you can select the image or video settings according to the shooting environment, and take pictures or video clips under the settings you have selected. For more details, please refer to "Taking Pictures" on page 29 and "Recording Video Clips" on page 40. The more the clippings on the left, the darker the image. The more the clippings on the right, the brighter the image. Adjust the exposure compensation to a positive value if the image is too dark. Adjust the exposure compensation to a negative value if the image is too bright. Checking the histogram will enable more precise exposure control for subsequent shots. About Crossing Lines The crossing lines on the LCD screen helps check and lock the location of your subject when you frame it on the LCD screen. 2592 X 1944 0005 28 Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com 3 Taking Pictures Before you take pictures, please read this note first: IMPORTANT! Never remove batteries while a picture is being saved. Doing so will prevent the current picture being saved and may corrupt other pictures already stored in the camera's internal memory or on a memory card. Outdoor Pictures Without the Flash · Never take pictures directly into the sun as they may cause spots in your picture. · Make sure that the sun is behind the camera to properly light up your subject. · Taking a Picture Taking pictures at approximately 4.2 feet to infinity ( 1.3 m to infinity) 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Frame your subject using the LCD screen or the viewfinder. 4. Hold the camera steady. Press the shutter button completely down to take a picture. A beep will sound (if the beep sound is turned on) when a picture is taken. Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com 29 · Setting Flash Mode 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Press the Flash button to cycle through the flash settings and select the one you need. Flash Mode 2592 x 1944 When you press the Flash button, the icon (according to the flash setting you selected) will appear on the LCD screen. You can now take pictures using the flash mode you selected. The flash will recharge after each flashed picture. The flash range is approximately 3 ft to 6.7 ft (1 m to 2 m). 30 Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com The camera has four flash modes (default setting is Auto Flash). Use the flash when you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows. Flash Off Mode. The flash does not fire. Use this setting for outdoor pictures or where flash is prohibited or may be distracting. Use when shooting towards a reflective surface, such as a window or a mirror. If the brightness of the environment is not enough when using this setting, your pictures will be too dark. Auto Flash Mode. The flash fires automatically as needed. Use this setting to take most pictures. Red-eye Reduction Mode. Use this setting to avoid red eye in your subject's eyes. The camera fires a brief, preflash flash before the regular flash. Forced On Mode. The flash fires for every picture. Use this setting in high-contrast situations to provide fill-light or use it indoors with low light. NOTE: · Flash modes are not available in Video mode. · Never touch or block the flash with your fingers. Doing so can damage these components and interfere with the correct flash operation. Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com 31 · Setting Self-timer Your camera is designed with a self-timer function, which allows you to take pictures with a 10-second built-in timer. 1. 2. 3. 4. Turn on the camera. Set the camera to Still Image mode. Press the Self-timer button to activate the self-timer function. will appear on the LCD screen. The icon 10-second Self-timer indicates a countdown of ten seconds. NOTE: Pressing the Self-timer button again disables it. Self-time On 2592 x 1944 0005 5. The camera beeps (if the beep sound is turned on) and the Self-timer LED blinks slowly last 8 seconds, then quickly last 2 seconds before the picture is taken. NOTE: · Take a picture by placing the camera on a flat surface or a tripod with the LCD screen flipped out and activating the self-timer function. To achieve the best quality, place the camera at least 1 meter (3.3 feet) away from the subject. · Place the camera on a flat surface or use a tripod when using the self-timer function. Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com 33 · Zoom Feature Your camera is designed with 4X digital zoom. This feature lets you zoom in on the central area of a photo and photograph only the enlarged portion of the picture. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image or Video mode. 3. Press the Zoom In or Zoom Out button to zoom in or zoom out the subject image. The zoom status is shown on the LCD screen. 4. Now you can take pictures and review them under the zoom setting. The zoom setting will remain after taking pictures. If you want to take a normal size picture, please use the Zoom Out button. 2592 x 1944 0005 X 4.0 Digital zoom status For digital zoom feature, the viewfinder may not reflect the actual image taken. We recommend the user to use the LCD screen to monitor the zoom feature. NOTE: · You may notice a decrease in image quality when using the digital zoom. · Digital zoom feature is also available in Video and Playback modes. 34 Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com · Setting the Image Size and Quality Picture resolution refers to the number of pixels in a digital picture. Picture quality depends on the JPEG file compression that the camera applies when the picture is taken. Higher resolution and less compression produces better quality but occupies more memory space. Smaller size pictures and normal quality are easier to email while larger size and fine quality are better for printing. Image Size Setting 1. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 2. Press the button. 3. Press the (left) or (right) button to select IMAGE SIZE (IMAGE SIZE). 4. Press the (left) or (down) button to select the desired setting. 5. Press the 2592 x 1944 2304 x 1728 2048 x 1536 640 x 480 button. Quality Setting: 1. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 2. Press the QUALITY HIGH NORMAL LOW button. 3. You can expand the memory with an SD card, please refer to Capacity of SD Card on page 79 for further details. For example, a picture of trees in autumn has a larger file size than a picture of blue sky at the same resolution and quality setting. Therefore, the number of pictures you can store on the camera internal memory may vary. The number of pictures on the LCD screen is for reference only. · It is recommended to use the 2592 x 1944 resolution for printing. 36 Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com · Setting Exposure Compensation You can adjust the exposure compensation value (EV) within the range of -1.5EV to +1.5EV in order to compensate for current lighting conditions. This setting can be used to obtain better result when shooting with backlighting, indirect indoor lighting, a dark background, etc. 1. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 2. Press the button. 3. Press the (left) or (right) button to select EXPOSURE (EXPOSURE). 4. Press the (up) or (down) button to select the AUTO desired setting. 5. Press the button. NOTE: · A higher EV value is best used for light-colored subjects and backlit subjects. A lower EV value is best for dark-colored subjects and for shooting outdoors on a clear day. · When shooting under very dark or very bright conditions, you may not be able to obtain satisfactory results even after performing exposure compensation. Polaroid Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid.com 37 · Setting the White Balance for Pictures Selecting the right type of white balance can help to make the color of a subject in a picture appear more natural under the type of lighting that is available. 1. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 2. Press the button. 4. Press the (left) or (right) button to select WHITE BALANCE AUTO DAY LIGHT CLOUDY TUNGSTEN (WHITE BALANCE). 5.
