Insert the batteries as shown, ensuring you follow the +/- signs correctly. 3. Close the battery door by pressing it downwards and then sliding it towards the camera to lock. You can switch between them by pressing the Capture/Playback mode button at the back of the camera. Capture mode Under this mode, you can select the image and video settings according to the shooting environment, and take pictures and video clips under the settings you have selected. For more details, please refer to "Taking Pictures" on page 28 and "Recording Video Clips" on page 38. Playback mode This mode allows the review or deletion of pictures and video clips from the camera. Still Image Mode Video Mode You may switch between these two modes according to the following steps. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Capture mode. DRIVE MODE · Drive Mode Press M STILL VIDEO Press OK NOTE: · Still Image mode is the default capture mode. · This setting is also available in Video mode. · Setup Menu Setup menu can be accessed in both Still Image and Video modes. Here we take Still Image mode for an example. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. OFF The power save feature is not activated. 1/3/5 MIN The camera is designed to switch off automatically to save battery life after the specified period of inactivity. You can change the power save setting according to the following steps: 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Press Press OK until Press OK NOTE: · Auto power off is automatically disabled under any one of the following conditions. - While an auto play is undergoing. - While the camera's USB port is connected to a computer or other external devices, or while the camera is being controlled by an external device. · This setting is also available in Video mode. 18 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Setting the Beep Sound On/Off You can turn the beep sound on and off in Capture mode. When the beep sound is turned on, the camera will beep when you press the buttons. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Press Press OK until Press OK NOTE: This setting is also available in Video mode. Set the frequency to 60Hz for US and 50Hz for Europe. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Make sure the camera clock is set to the correct date before setting the date stamp on. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Press Press OK until Press OK NOTE: This setting is also available in Video mode. 22 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Resetting to Default Settings You can easily change all the settings you made back to the camera default settings by the following steps. Please refer to "Camera Default Settings" on page 84 for more details. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Press OK Press until Press OK NOTE: This setting is also available in Video mode. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Follow the guidelines in "Setup Menu" on page 15 to access the Setup menu. Press OK Press OK Press OK NOTE: · Data deleted by a format operation cannot be recovered. Make sure you do not have any useful data currently stored in the internal memory before you format it. · Formatting the internal memory destroys all the pictures, even those are protected. · With a memory card inserted, the above operation would format the inserted memory card only. The internal memory will not be formatted with a memory card inserted. · This setting is also available in Video mode. 24 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Turning the Information Display and LCD Screen On/Off In the Capture mode, press the Display button once to show the information display with a histogram. Pressing the button again will turn off the information display on the LCD screen, with the picture left only. Pressing the button a third time will turn off the LCD screen. Pressing the button once again will turn on the LCD screen and the information display. Press Press Press Press Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com 25 In the Playback mode, press the Display button once to show the information display with a histogram. Pressing the button again will turn off the information display on the LCD screen, with nine thumbnail picture and video clip files left only. Pressing the button a third time will show the picture or video clip file in full screen with the information display. Press Press Press 26 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com 3 Taking Pictures Before you take pictures, please read this note first: IMPORTANT! Never remove batteries while a picture is being saved. Doing so will prevent the current picture being saved and may corrupt other pictures already stored in the camera's internal memory or on a memory card. Outdoor Pictures Without the Flash · Avoid intense sunlight that may cause sun spots in pictures. · Always make sure that the sun or other light source is in front of the subject. Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com 27 · Taking a Picture Taking pictures at approximately 4.3 feet to infinity (1.3 meters to infinity). 1. 2. 3. 4. Turn on the camera. Set the camera to Still Image mode. Frame your subject using the LCD screen or the viewfinder. Press the Shutter button completely down to take a picture while holding the camera steady. A beep will sound (if the beep sound is turned on) when a picture is taken. 28 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Setting Flash Mode 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Press the Flash button to cycle through the flash settings and select the one you need. When you press the Flash button, the icon (according to the flash setting you selected) will appear on the LCD screen. You can now take pictures using the Flash mode you selected. The flash will recharge after each flashed picture. The flash range is approximately 4.9 feet to 6.5 feet (1.5 to 2 meters). Flash Mode Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com 29 The camera has four flash modes (default setting is Auto Flash). Use the flash when you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows. When shooting under these conditions: The flash does not fire. Use this setting for outdoor pictures, or where flash is prohibited or may be distracting, or when shooting towards a reflective surface, such as a window or a mirror. If there is not enough light when using this setting, your pictures will be too dark. The flash fires automatically as needed. Use this setting to take most pictures. Use this setting to avoid red glare in your subject's eyes. The camera fires a brief preflash before the regular flash. The flash fires for every picture. Use this setting in high-contrast situations to provide fill-light or use it indoors in low light. Select this mode Icon shown on the LCD screen Flash Off Auto Flash Red-eye Reduction Forced On NOTE: · Flash modes are not available in Video mode. · Never touch or block the flash with your fingers. Doing so can soil these components and interfere with the correct flash operation. 30 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Setting Self-timer Your camera is designed with a self-timer function, which allows you to take pictures with a 10-second built-in timer. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. 3. Press the Self-timer button to activate the self-timer function. will appear on the LCD screen. 4. The icon 10-second Self-timer indicates a countdown of ten seconds. Self-time On NOTE: Press the Self-timer button again to disable the self-timer function and the "SELF TIMER OFF" indicator will be shown on the LCD screen for a while. 5. Frame your subject using the LCD screen or the viewfinder. 6. Press the Shutter button to take a picture. The camera beeps (if the beep sound is turned on) and the Self-timer LED blinks slowly for 9 seconds, then quickly for 1 seconds before the picture is taken. NOTE: Place the camera on a flat surface or use a tripod when using the self-timer function. This feature lets you zoom in on the central area of a photo and photograph only the enlarged portion of the picture. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image or Video mode. 3. Press the Zoom In or Zoom Out button to zoom in or zoom out the subject image. The zoom status is shown on the LCD screen. 4. Now you can takes pictures and review them under the zoom setting. The zoom setting will remain after taking pictures. If you want to take a normal size picture, please use the Zoom Out button. Digital Zoom Status For digital zoom feature, the viewfinder may not reflect the actual image taken. We recommend the user to use the LCD screen to monitor the zoom feature. NOTE: · You may notice a decrease in image quality when using the digital zoom. · Zoom feature is not available Macro mode or while recording a video clip. 32 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Setting the Image Size and Quality Picture resolution refers to the number of pixels in a digital picture. Picture quality depends on the JPEG file compression that the camera applies when the picture is taken. Higher resolution and less compression produces better quality but occupies more memory space. Smaller size pictures and normal quality are easier to email while larger size and fine quality are better for printing. Image Size Setting 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. DRIVE MODE IMAGE SIZE Press M Press STILL VIDEO 2592 X 1944 2048 X 1536 1600 X 1200 640 X 480 Press OK NOTE: It is recommended to use the 2592 x 1944 resolution for printing. DRIVE MODE QUALITY Press M Press STILL VIDEO HIGH NORMAL LOW Press OK 34 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Setting Exposure Compensation You can adjust the exposure compensation value (EV) within the range of -1.5EV to +1.5EV in order to compensate for current lighting conditions. This setting can be used to obtain better result when shooting with backlighting, indirect indoor lighting, a dark background, etc. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. Press M Press Press OK NOTE: · A higher EV value is best used for light-colored subjects and backlit subjects. A lower EV value is best for dark-colored subjects and for shooting outdoors on a clear day. · When shooting under very dark or very bright conditions, you may not be able to obtain satisfactory results even after performing exposure compensation. · Exposure compensation resets to "Auto" whenever the power is turned off. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. Press M Press Press OK When shooting under these conditions: Automatic adjustment Outdoor daylight Cloudy Indoors, illuminated by tungsten lighting Indoors, illuminated by fluorescent lighting Select this setting 36 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Changing the ISO Speed This function enables you to change the camera's sensitivity to light by selecting different ISO values. ISO is a measure of how quickly your camera reacts to light. The higher the ISO value, the less the light needed to make an exposure, allowing the same exposure to be achieved with higher shutter speeds or smaller apertures. In a digital camera, higher ISO value allows higher shutter speed, at the expense of mottled or grain appearing in the final picture. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Still Image mode. Press M Press Press OK The camera's sensitivity is automatically detected by different lighting value or subject brightness. 100/200/400 In the same lighting condition, higher the ISO value it is, faster the shutter speed it will be. AUTO NOTE: ISO speed resets to auto whenever the power is turned off. Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com 37 4 Recording Video Clips NOTE: Change the drive mode from Still Image mode to Video mode before recording video clips, since Still Image mode is the default capture mode. Please refer to "Drive Mode" on page 15 for more details. · Recording Video Clips Use the Video mode to record video clips with audio. The recording time displayed on the LCD screen will decrease and the icon will blink while recording. 1. 2. 3. 4. Turn on the camera. Set the camera to Video mode. Frame your subject using the LCD screen. Press the Shutter button completely down to start recording. 5. Press the Shutter button again to stop recording, or recording stops when the current memory is full. Recording Indicator 38 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Setting Video Resolution Video resolution refers to the number of pixels in a digital video clip. Video clip quality depends on the file resolution that the camera applies when the video clip is recorded. Higher resolution makes better quality which occupies more memory space. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Video mode. Please refer to "Camera Mode" on page 14 for more details. · Reviewing Pictures on the LCD Screen 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Playback mode. 3. Press the left or right button to view the pictures taken. The icon is shown on the LCD screen when a picture is selected. The currently displayed picture can be magnified up to 4 times using the Zoom In button. Press the Zoom Out button to view the picture in the original size. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Playback mode. 3. Press the Zoom Out button. Up to nine thumbnail files will be shown on the LCD screen and the last reviewed picture will be highlighted. Use the up, down, left and right buttons to select a thumbnail file and view it in full screen by pressing the Zoom In button again. 42 Polaroid PDC 5080 Digital Camera User Guide www.polaroid-digital.com · Auto Play The Auto Play function enables you to view all the picture and video clip files stored in the camera one by one forward or backward on the LCD screen. You can activate the Auto Play function and make Auto Play direction and interval according to the following steps: 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Set the camera to Playback mode. 3. Press the Menu button and then press the right button to select the "AUTO PLAY" option. Set Auto Play Direction AUTO PLAY ON SETUP AUTO PLAY AUTO PLAY Press ON SETUP Press OK DIRECTION INTERVAL Press OK AUTO PLAY DIRECTION Press OK ON SETUP Press OK FORWARD BACKWARD Press the up or down button to choose the direction in which the camera will automatically run, and then press OK button to confirm your choice. Every file will display for the specified period according to your interval setting. You may press the Menu button to stop the auto play. Set the camera to Playback mode. 3. Use the left or right button to select the video clip you want to play. 4. Press the OK button to start playing video clip. Press it again to pause. 5. Press the Menu button to stop. The icon is shown on LCD screen when a video clip is selected. Use the left and right buttons to select the picture or video clip you want to protect. ERASE PROTECT Press M ERASE THIS ERASE ALL Press LOCK THIS UNLOCK THIS LOCK ALL UNLOCK ALL Press OK The icon appears on the information display when you review the protection status of the protected picture or video clip. To unprotect the protected picture or video clip, please repeat the above operation and choose "UNLOCK THIS".
