1. This warranty offers free repairs of defects or failures in the product, provided that the product is used in accordance with the instructions given in the user's manual and all cautions, warnings, and indications. To receive repairs under this warranty, please contact Polaroid (see page 27 for details) 2. In the event of transfer of ownership of the product (including receipt as a gift), the store at which the product was purchased may not be able to honor this warranty; in this case, contact Polaroid (details on page 27). 3. Except as specified below, the guarantee covers all defects in material or workmanship of the product. The costs of shipping the product to Polaroid for repairs shall be borne by the customer. The following are not covered by the warranty: Damage resulting from improper usage, or any attempt, by any person other than authorized personnel to modify or repair the product. Damage resulting from the dropping or other shipping related damages after purchase. Damage caused by fire, earthquake, flood, or other act of God, or damages due to abnormal operating conditions including pollution, salt damage, gas damage (sulfides), or irregular power voltage. Paper Guide Round indentation
After installing the printer driver (on the included CD), connect the printer via a USB cable (sold separately), and follow the computer's on-screen instructions to transfer image data to the printer. Please refer to the manual on the driver CD for installation instructions and procedures for the printer driver.
Press the lock button and open the side cover. Open the paper cassette cover, and insert the paper with the perforation margin (large) facing towards you.
Supported OS: Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP Use a USB cable certified by the USB Implementers Forum as compliant.

Align the four indentations and set the paper guide in place.

This mark indicates actions that should not be done. This mark indicates actions that must be performed.
If the unit produces smoke, unusual amounts of heat, unusual odors, or unusual sounds, immediately discontinue use and remove the power plug from the power outlet (failure to do so may result in fire or electrocution). If water or other foreign materials enter the unit, or the outer case is damaged, immediately discontinue use and remove the power plug from the power outlet (failure to do so may result in fire or electrocution). Do not insert metallic or flammable objects inside the unit (fire, electrocution, or breakage may result. Please keep out of reach of children). Usage Cautions
g Printing
Unit rear · Use this printer on a flat, even, stable surface. · During printing, paper will pass in and out of the front and rear paper slits. Do not place any obstacles within 5 cm of the front or back of the printer. · The printer cannot be used while laid on its side. · The printer cannot be directly connected to a digital camera. · Do not move the printer while printing is in progress. · Do not unplug the printer or remove the AC adapter DC plug during printing. Doing so may result in paper jamming. 5cm · Do not turn the power off and on or plug and unplug the USB cable USB port unless necessary. Printer initialization uses some of the ink print ribbon, and repeated power cycling may lower the amount of prints that can be produced. · Moving the printer, ink ribbon cassette, or paper from a cold location to a hot location suddenly may result in condensation. If condensation occurs, do not turn the unit on, but wait until the temperature of the unit has reached that of the room. · Continuous printing of 2 images or more, as well as printing in low or high temperature rooms, may result in printing time taking longer than normal. · When moving the printer, place one hand at the bottom of the unit to prevent slipping. · Use this printer out of the reach of children.
gMemory Card
· Do not remove memory cards when the printer is operating. Do not subject memory cards to strong vibration or shocks. Doing so may result in damage to memory card data or physical damage. · Do not unplug the printer or remove the AC adapter DC plug during printing. Doing so may result in damage to memory card data or physical damage. · Store memory cards in cool places out of direct sunlight and strong magnetic or static fields. Failure to do so may result in damage to memory card data. · This printer does not support 5V-only memory cards. Please use 3.3V (3V) or 3.3V / 5V dual voltage memory cards. · Printer operation is not guaranteed if objects other than memory cards are inserted in the memory card slot. · We are not responsible for any memory card data lost or damaged through use of this unit. · Backup all data on memory cards in case of accidental data damage or deletion. · Some memory cards may not be usable due to digital camera, camera cellular phone, memory card, or memory card adapter specifications. · Due to their design, memory sticks may take longer to read than memory cards. · To avoid the unlikely possibility of data loss, do not insert or remove memory cards while the printer is powered on.

· Please store the printer, ink ribbon cassettes, and paper out of areas with direct sunlight, dust, and extremely high or low humidity or temperatures. · Do not place items on top of the printer. · Do not use benzene, thinner, or other solvents in cleaning the printer. Wipe down the unit with a damp, lint-free cloth with a diluted soap solution, and then with a dry lint-free cloth. · Please refer to these cautions when using a chemical cleaner based wipe. · Please keep the packing materials from the printer's box. They are needed to protect the unit in case shipping or transport becomes necessary.
· Only use correct ink ribbon cassette and paper types with this printer. Using other paper or ink ribbon cassette types may result in breakage. · Before using any paper or ink ribbon cassettes, please read their usage instructions and cautions carefully. · Do not touch the print side of the paper. · When holding the paper, only touch the edges of the paper (the outside of the perforations). · Do not scratch the paper or ink ribbon cassettes, or touch the paper or ink ribbon cassettes with wet or sweaty hands. Do not allow the print surface of the paper to become wet. · During printing, do not open the upper or side covers, touch the lock lever, or insert or remove an ink ribbon cassette. · Do not touch or pull the paper during printing. · When storing ink ribbon cassettes or paper, always place the ink ribbon cassette or paper back in the bag in which it came. · Do not reuse old ink ribbon cassettes or paper. · Do not allow paper that has been printed on to come in contact with the following items: document storage files (soft vinyl chloride files), erasers, benzene, thinners, or other organic solvents. · Do not fold or cut the paper perforations before printing. · Always use ink ribbon cassette and paper from the same set. Mixing sets may result in printing problems. (Refer to page 26 for details)

After opening the upper cover, press the side cover lock button and slowly open the side cover.
Remove the ink ribbon stopper
Remove the ink ribbon stopper, and turn the ink ribbon axle (the ribbon core on the ink supply side) slightly in the direction of the arrow to take up any ink ribbon slack. Note: (Refer to diagram at left) When taking up ink ribbon slack, do not turn the ink ribbon core on the take-up side. Do not touch the surface of the ink ribbon. Fingerprints or other contaminants on the ink ribbon may result in printing problems.

Check the orientation of the ink ribbon cassette, insert it into the ink ribbon cassette slot, and close the upper cover. Note: When completely inserted, the ink ribbon cassette will click into place, and the lock lever will lock the ink ribbon cassette. To remove the ink ribbon cassette, slide the lock lever out of the locking position before removing the ink ribbon cassette. After ink ribbon initialization is completed, printing will be possible.

Side cover lock button
While pressing the side cover lock button, open the printer side cover. Notes:
1. The side cover can only be opened when the front cover and top cover are open. 2. When opening the side cover, guide the cover with your hand and open the cover slowly. 3. Remove any surrounding objects before opening the side cover. ! Do not touch any of the interior parts of the printer.

Printing with the paper incorrectly aligned may result in paper jamming. Up to 25 sheets can be loaded in the paper cassette. Please do not overload the cassette. Do not touch the surface of the paper. Fingerprints or other contaminants on the paper surface may result in printing problems.

Usable button display
Quantity Buttons Used to select the number of prints. Pressing the + button will increase the number of prints by one, pressing the - button will decrease the number of prints by one. These buttons are also used to select the number of images in a split print (2, 4, 9, 16, or 25) and ID prints (2, 4, 6, 8, mixed). Print Button Starts printing. Once the image to be printed has been selected and the number of prints specified, pressing this button will begin printing. Pressing the button during printing will pause the printing operation. Mode Button Used to select the print mode. The selected print mode is shown in the bottom left corner of the LCD monitor. Pressing the button will cycle through the different print modes. Single Print Batch Print All Images DPOF Index Multi ID Print
A single copy will be printed of the image displayed. The images and quantities are selected beforehand and printed out as a batch. A single copy will be printed of each image on the memory card. Printing will be performed according to DPOFTM settings. (Perform DPOFTM settings on the digital camera)

A page of image thumbnails (25 images) stored on the memory card will be printed. The displayed image will be shrunk and printed multiple times on the same sheet. The following 5 types of split prints can be printed.

ID Print Power Button Turns the power on and off. The printer will only turn off if the power button is held down for 2 or more seconds. If the power button is held down for 2 or more seconds during printing, it will turn off after the current print is finished.

Single Print mode allows printing a single copy of the currently displayed image. Procedure 1. Press the Mode button until the screen display is as that at right. 2. Press the and buttons to select the image to be printed. 3. Press the Print button to begin printing.

This mode allows printing of contact sheets of image thumbnails from images on the memory card. Procedure 1. Press the Mode button until the screen display is as that at right. 2. Press the Print button to begin printing. * Each index print will contain 25 image thumbnails. * Index prints will take longer to produce than normal prints.
n Printing 2 or more images (Batch print)
This mode allows selection of multiple images and print quantities before batch printing. Procedure 1. Press the Mode button until the screen display is as that at right. 2. Press the and buttons to select the image to be printed. 3. Press the + or - buttons to select the number of prints desired. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 above to select other images and quantities. 5. Press the Print button to begin printing.

This mode allows printing using DPOFTM settings. (Perform DPOFTM settings on the digital camera) Procedure 1. Press the Mode button until the screen display is as that at right. 2. Press the Print button to begin printing.
* DPOFTM Settings DPOFTM (Digital Print Order Format) is a recording format for digital cameras. It allows storage of printing quantities for individual prints for automatic printing. The PP46d supports DPOFTM printing, and when using DPOF mode will use the DPOFTM settings found on the memory card to select the images and quantities to be printed. When printing jobs involve multiple prints, such as batch or index prints, printing can be stopped. Procedure 1. During printing, press the Print button. "Pause after completing current print" will be displayed. (Refer to image at right)

gAdjusting the brightness and sharpness
The brightness and sharpness of prints can be adjusted. * Any settings changes will be lost when the power is turned off. Procedure 1. Press the Mode button for 3 seconds or more to display the settings mode screen. (Refer to picture at right) 2. Press the or buttons to select the setting item. 3. gIf the ink ribbon runs out during printing:
Open the upper cover and replace the ink ribbon cassette with a new cassette. (Please refer to page 10 for details) Ink ribbon cassette * Remove the old ink ribbon cassette and insert the new ink ribbon cassette.

The side cover must be completely closed for printing to be performed.
Close the side and upper covers and the printer will automatically resume printing. Note: If the printer runs out of paper while printing, do not turn off the power. Turning off the power will clear the current print settings.

Open the upper and side covers, and add paper to the paper cartridge. (Please refer to pages 11 - 12 for details)

g If the paper jams:
Remove the paper from the back or front slits. Note: Do not pull forcefully on the paper to remove it, or breakage may occur. Paper cannot be removed while printing.
Symptoms and Solutions
Before sending a unit to be repaired, please check the following list of printer problems and their possible causes. If the problem still cannot be resolved, please contact Polaroid. See page 27 for details.
Symptom The printer cannot be turned on Cause / Solution Cause: The AC adapter is not properly connected. Solution: Connect the AC adapter properly. (Please refer to page 13, "Printing " for details)
Turn the power off (press the Power button for 2 seconds or more), and turn the power back on.
Power Button
* There are unprintable images * Images cannot be confirmed
Cause: The image is not supported by the printer. Solution: This printer is for printing photographs taken by digital cameras and cellular phones. Some images created or altered on computer or other equipment cannot be printed. For more details on supported formats, please refer to page 26, "Main Specifications".
If the paper cannot be removed through the steps above, turn off the power, open the side cover, and gently remove the paper manually. Note: When manually removing the jamed paper from the interior of the unit, be careful not to touch any of the interior components, as they become hot when printing.
Print quality is low
Cause: The paper has been loaded upside-down. Solution: Please insert the paper correctly.
* Pull gently.
Paper can sometimes be removed more easily if the power has been turned off and back on again. (When removing paper from the interior by opening the side cover, always unplug the unit first) If the paper cannot be removed through the steps above, please contact Polaroid. See page 27 for details.
Cause: Condensation has occurred. Solution: Please wait until the condensation has evaporated.

Cause: The ink ribbon or paper are dirty. Solution: Please use a clean ink ribbon and clean paper. * Please refer to page 7, "Usage Cautions" for details regarding ink ribbon cassettes and paper.
