Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

PROFOTO Studio Flash Unit Pro-2 Operating Instructions Thank you very much for the confidence you have shown us by purchasing the PROFOTO Pro-2 Flash Generator. This unit is your universal studio flash unit for all possible uses in studio and portrait photography. It provides the highest degree of quality and the greatest precision in finishing, control, and guaranteed problem-free handling and safe use over the years. It is, however, essential that the operating instructions are followed precisely if the unit is to work successfully. The following instructions are providet in order to advise you on correct handling and servicing of your unit. The more familiar you become with the functions and manipulation of the unit, the easier it will become to avoid unnecessary mistakes, or even damage. We wish you the greatest success. PROFOTO AB, SWEDEN Contents Mains Connection Lamphead Connection Power Distribution VARIO-Model Accessories Service Operation Instructuion Electrical Data and Mains Connection The Pro-2 Studio Flash is designed for AC connection. The operating voltage is 220 volts. Units with a code 20.000.24 and 20.000.21 respectively can be switched to 110 volts. The corresponding operating voltage is shown under handle (1). Under the handle there is also a voltage switch (2). BEFORE CONNECTING TO THE MAINS ENSURE THAT THE OPERATING VOLTAGE CORRESPONDS TO THE MAINS VOLTAGE! Power consumption is 6 amps for 220 volts or 12 amps for 110 volts. Set main switch (3) to position "on". After approximately 2 to 3 seconds the green control lamp (4) will light up and the unit is ready for use. IMPORTANT! TO TAKE PROPER CARE OF THE CONDENSERS IT IS NECESSARY TO FORM THEM AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. THIS IS BEST DONE BY FLASHING 5-6 TIMES IN THE FLASH SEQUENCE POSITION "S" (5) WITH THE MANUAL FLASH RELEASE (6). FORMING TIME ABOUT 30 MINS. Lamp Connection 1 to 4 lamps can be connected to the generator Pro-2 whereby the total energy is divided for outputs of l/l, l/2, l/4 + l/4. By using the lamp split cable No. 22.303.00 it is also possible to connect 4 lamps with a power split of l/8, l/2, l/4 and l/8 (7). The lamp contact must be inserted into the generator socket correctly and the rear lock must catch. IMPORTANT! WHEN THE RED CONTROL LAMP LIGHTS UP, THE LAMP PLUG MUST NOT BE ACTUATED. THE RED LAMP SHOWS AN UNEVEN LOAD DISTRIBUTION OF THE CONDENSER PACKS AND GOES OUT AFTER A SHORT TIME. 1 When connecting only one lamp the power output corresponds to the indications on the outlets of the generator. When connecting two or more lamps, the corresponding power indications are correct only if out let 1 (full power) is not used. If outlet 1 is used with other outlets the entire power of the generator is divided evenly between the connected lamps. The following combinations are possible: 2 Lamp-split Cable 22.303.00 This short lamp-split cable is connected to outlet 1. A switch-action built into this lamp-split cable causes outlet 1 to be separated from the full power and to be connected to outlet 4, whereby the quarter power of this outlet is divided between two lamps. In order to maintain the one-eighth power, outlet 1 must always be connected to lamps through lamp-split cable 22.303.00. Diagram of Connections + Lamp-split cable Charging Pro-2 is equipped with a red charge control lamp (8). This lamp indicates charge condition. A s soon as the unit is charged the red lamp extinguishes and the green lamp (4) shows that it is ready for flashing. The Vario P.C. board EH 41 No. 20.122.00 can subsequently be built-in by our sole agents unless it was factory fitted. In this way the unit can be operated with a modeling light proportional to the flash power. The light switch (9) beside the main switch is used for selecting either the constant or proportional light. In this case the light can be switched on or off independently with the switch on the lamp head (10). Moreover, the light can be operated with normal or double intensity, with the light switch in either position. This applies to the 100 W Krypton lamp as well as the 250 W helogen lamp. A switch (11) is provided for this under the carrying handle, With the switch position on constant light, the lamps can be operated with normal or double intensity if connected to 220 volts. IMPORTANT! IF 12OV/25OW HELOGEN LAMPS ARE USED, THEIR INTENSITY IS INCREASED 4 TIMES. LONG FLASH SERIES WITH QUICK FLASH SEQUENCES SHOULD THEREFORE BE INTERRUPTED BY INTERVALS IN ORDER TO AVOID OVER-HEATING OF THE LAMPS. 4 Photocell The highly sensitive photocell built into a coaxial plug is simply plugged into the synchro connection instead of the synchro cable. Synchro Cable The synchro cable is equipped with a coaxial plug and can be extended by 5 meter lengths. Generator Dolly On the ground plate of the generator dolly there are four magnets which attach the dolly to the generator. The complete unit can thus be lifted comfortably over door-sills and cables. Detachment is easily done by holding down the dolly with the foot and lifting the generator. Lamp Head In the lamp head clamp there is a pivot with for Profoto tripods. However, the lamp head to any other tripod. Beside the cable inlet, (10) for independent switching on and off of of the single lamp heads. a 3/8" camera thread can also be clamped there is a switch the modeling light Umbrella Reflectors The pickup-sleeve for umbrellas is situated on the front side of the lamp housing. The distance between flash tube and reflector umbrella is adjustable. Barn-door (Pat.) These are pushed on to the normal reflector in such a way that the wire hoops form a spring loop on the outside. The four slide pulleys rest on the reflector rim and the barn-door can be rotated in any direction. Profoto filters can be mounted on the protruding wire ends. 5 Reflectors Profoto reflectors can be set to various positions on the lamp head Consequently the light angle can be increased or reduceod as required. The normal reflector can be adjusted between 40 and 90°. All reflectors are simply pushed on to the lamp head and are automatically held in place by clamping springs. ! Pro-2 Adapter This reflector adapter makes it possible to use reflectors from any other Profoto flash unit. Soft-light Reflector: Silver or white 130° with coating. quick-change snap-on girdle clamp. Spot Tube: with honeycomb grid. Spot Adapter The spot adapter is pushed on to the lamp head like a reflector. Varying illumination effects can be obtained by shifting the spot adapter. Stick-light This is a complete lamp head with quartz flash tube and halogen modeling light. In order to exchange the halogen modeling light, remove the wire hoops of the glass cylinder. whereupon the modeling lamp can be removed. When changing the flash tube it is recommended that it be changed completely together with the base. 6 Operation Immediately after switching on the main switch (3) the green control lamp (4) lights up briefly, A slight hum indicates that the power supply is on. If the unit is switched on after longer intervals it is normal that a hum is heard and that the green lamp sometimes goes out. (In this case the condensors then consume more residual current.) As soon as the green ready-indicator lights up the unit is ready for flashing. The green ready-light goes out after releasing the flash, and the generator charges again. If a flash is released during charging, the charging operation must be briefly interrupted, whereupon the green ready-indicator lights up. Short releases of partial power (l/4, l/2 etc.) make the red control lamp (8) light up briefly. This indicates that the load in the condensor pack is uneven, due to the partial release of power. The red load-control lamp will only extinguish again w h e n a l l condensors are fully charged. This is a simple control of t h e load position which also increases the flash reliance. IMPORTANT! WHEN PLUGS THIS AFTER THE RED LOAD-CONTROL LIGHTS UP, THE LAMP MUST NOT BE ACTUATED. ALSO APPLIES FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS SWITCHING OFF THE GENERATOR. Guide Numbers It is possible to find out the proper f-stop with an ordinary exposure meter. In this case the modeling light switch (11) must be at the high output position. After the exposure meter has been set for the correct film sensitivity, the proper f-stop can be read at an exposure time of 4 sec. with Halogene Modeling light 250 W 11 sec. with Krypton Modeling light 100 W 7 Changing the Modeling Light IMPORTANT! ALWAYS PULL OUT THE LAMP PLUGS BEFORE WORKING I ON THE LAMP HEAD! The krypton modeling light has a bayonet socket. Press the lamp gently into the lamp head and rotate briefly in counter-clockwise direction. For the 250 W helogen lamp, the socket adapter No. 11.622.06 is mounted in the same way as the Krypton lamp. The helogen lamp is then plugged into it. Fuses A 4 amp fuse is located beside the mains connector (12). If four lamp heads with halogen modeling light are used, this 4 amp fuse must be replaced by a 6 amp fuse. Changing the Flash Tube IMPORTANT! ALWAYS PULL OUT THE LAMP PLUGS BEFORE WORKING I ON THE LAMP HEAD! The flash tube is mounted on a 3 pin plug-in socket. It can simply be pulled out. 8
