Always drive with care and attention when using your SatNav system. It is the driver's responsibility not to be distracted by the product while the vehicle is in motion. For safety reasons please do not operate this system while driving a vehicle. Key in your destination and preferences before driving. Hospitals and aircraft Do not use this product in hospitals or on aircraft. Mounting the unit Do not mount the SatNav system over airbags or in the area of airbag deployment. Do not mount the unit where it could interfere with the vehicles controls or safety devices. Do not mount the unit in an area where the driver or passenger could impact it in the event of an accident. Do not mount the unit in an area where the driver's vision could be impaired. Do not place the unit unsecured on the vehicles dashboard. Keep the unit away from sources of high frequency and electro / magnetic interference such as televisions, loudspeaker systems, CD players, mobile telephones etc. DO NOT leave the unit exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. When it is not in use take it with you or secure it in the glove compartment or boot. For security do not leave the unit or the windscreen mount on display when your vehicle is unattended. Re-chargeable batteries Batteries may leak or explode if not charged or handled correctly. Always observe the following precautions when handling batteries: Do not short out the terminals or attempt to dismantle the battery. Do not expose the battery to flames or excessive heat. Do not immerse in or expose the battery to water. Do not charge the battery in a hot environment. Lithium batteries do not need to be discharged, do not wait until the battery is depleted before recharging. When not in use for a long period, please charge the battery every two weeks to prevent excessive discharge affecting battery performance. DO NOT allow the battery to become completely discharged. This could result in all your saved data being deleted. Important This product requires satellite signals to function correctly. There may be occasions for example when you are in a building that navigation is not possible due to poor signal strength. This is normal for products of this type. Data security Make a back up copy of the data on the memory card. RAC does not accept liability for loss of data or damage to the data storage unit. No claims can be accepted for damages resulting from the loss of data or for consequential damages. DO NOT attempt to access the internal data stored on the unit via your computer. This will invalidate the guarantee. HELPLINE: 01302 720006 3 Safety Care of the SatNav unit Turn off the SatNav unit and remove the power plug and all other connecting cables before cleaning. Be careful when cleaning the display as it is easy to scratch. Do not use solvents, caustic or gaseous cleaners to clean the unit. Only use a soft lint-free cloth to clean the screen surface and the SatNav unit. Do not press down hard on the surface of the screen. Do not expose the screen to strong light or ultraviolet radiation. Do not tap on the screen too hard, a light touch is sufficient to activate the system. Tapping too hard on the screen could cause damage to the screen and will invalidate the guarantee. Important notice · This system only provides a navigational reference. Please do not use this system for any directional, distance, and geographic measurements. · The first GPS positioning should be performed at a single set point, wideopen area away from buildings. Positioning time will depend on the satellite signal strength and cloud levels; possibly taking up to 10 minutes. GPS (Global Positioning System) is the satellite system controlled by the United States of America Department of Defence. All maintenance and operations are also managed by the United States of America Department of Defence. Should the system be modified and adjusted, the precision and operation of GPS related systems might be affected. · Any wireless communication products (mobile phone, radio, speed detection unit etc.) might affect the GPS signal, resulting in a poor signal. For safety, please do not operate this system while driving a vehicle. Charge Indicator Displays the battery charging status. Retractable Antenna Receives satellite signals. External Antenna connector For connection of an external antenna. Speaker Increases audio output. Memory Card Slot The required programs and maps are saved on the card. Do not remove memory card while in use. 7 8 Reset System reset switch. Headphone Jack Connects to external headphones. 9 Power Connection Port For connecting the charger. 10 Stylus Used to directly input data or select items on the screen. 11 Power Button Switches the power on/off. 12 USB Connection Port Port for USB connector. 2 3 4 5 6 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 5 Getting started INSTALLING AND REMOVING THE MEMORY CARD The memory card contains the map data required by the SatNav. Slot the card into the memory card slot located on the side of the unit making sure the contacts on the card point towards the rear of the SatNav unit. To remove the memory card press lightly on the top edge until it ejects. Remove the card taking care not to touch the contacts. Memory cards are very fragile, take care not to force the card or touch the contacts. The supplied memory card contains the digital map files that are required for the GPS navigational data. Do not delete these files. · When removing the memory card, please make sure the card is not reading data, or it will cause a system crash. · When operating, accidental removal of the memory card will result in an error message, please re-insert the memory card and reset the unit. Using the In-Vehicle Bracket The supplied in-vehicle bracket set can be suctioned securely on the front windscreen. Follow the procedures below to secure the bracket. Insert the SatNav unit into the mounting cradle. Flip up the antenna then position the two locating-slots on the underside of the SatNav unit into the corresponding tabs on the mounting cradle. Snap the upper side of the SatNav unit into the mounting cradle. FLEXIBLE MOUNTING ARM Assembling the In-Vehicle bracket Slot the suction bracket mounting plate into the mounting cradle. Tighten the locking nut to secure the mounting cradle into position. Ensure the windscreen of the vehicle is dust and grease free. Place the mounting bracket onto the windscreen in a safe and suitable position, Press in the button marked PRESS then push the plastic lever back and upwards to secure the mounting bracket to the window. 6 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 Getting started POWERING / CHARGING THE SATNAV The unit can be charged in 2 ways, either by recharging from a vehicles auxiliary socket or by using a mains charger. To power the SatNav unit from a vehicles auxiliary socket, plug one end of the 12v power cable into the d.c. socket on the SatNav unit and the other end into the vehicle auxiliary socket. The angle of the mounting bracket can be adjusted by slackening the adjuster knobs on the mounting bracket. Once you have adjusted the bracket re-tighten the adjuster knobs. When using the in-vehicle bracket, do not install in a location that will obscure the drivers view. NOTE: Some vehicles may have a heat reflective windscreen that can prevent GPS signals reaching the satellite navigation system. If your vehicle is fitted with a heat reflective windscreen you may need to use an external antenna. To recharge using a mains charger Plug one end of the mains charger cable into the d.c. socket on the SatNav unit then plug the charger into a power outlet. To maximise the life of the battery the first charge must fully charge the battery. Subsequent charges will be shorter. When charging starts, the charging indicator light will illuminate red, please wait for the charging to complete (this might take several hours). After charging is completed the indicator light will go out. HELPLINE: 01302 720006 7 Getting started TURNING THE SATNAV UNIT ON Before turning the SatNav unit On lift up the GPS antenna in order to optimise signal reception. Press and hold down the power button until the start up logo is displayed. SETTING UP THE SATNAV UNIT The setting function gives you the ability to adjust the basic system options and settings to your personal preference. USING THE STYLUS To navigate through menus tap the pointed end of the stylus lightly on the screen, do not press hard as this could damage the screen. SYSTEM RESET Only under extreme circumstances will it be necessary to reboot the system. Reset your system if the following situations occur: · Heavy lag experienced with screen refresh or operations, resulting in an inoperable system. · Cannot turn off the system with power button. · No response with selection on the screen. Insert the tip of the stylus into the reset switch on the side of the unit. It may be necessary to remove then re-insert the memory card. Be aware that stored data may be lost by resetting the system. System Settings Backlight Settings The backlight settings will let you set the brightness of the backlight. Tap on the minus (-) and plus (+) icons to control backlight brightness. Setting The Volume Tap the speaker icon in the main menu to enter the volume setting menu. Tap (+) or (-) on the screen to adjust the audio output. Tap the speaker icon on this screen to mute the sound, tap again to enable sounds. 8 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 Getting started/Other Functions OTHER FUNCTIONS In addition to the navigation system, this unit also provides functions for music playback and system settings. You can control and operate the system on screen with the stylus. MUSIC PLAYBACK FUNCTION This unit has a complete MP3 Music Playback function, capable of playing back MP3 files stored on memory cards. Music playback can either be listened to through the built in speaker or through headphones connected to the headphone jack. Storing MP3 files onto memory cards On your computer, you must first convert the music from an audio CD into MP3 files, then save them onto the memory card. STARTING MUSIC PLAYBACK Tap Entertainment (Music Player) on the Top Menu to enter Music Player mode, the following screen will be displayed: Insert a memory card containing MP3 Music files into the memory card slot on the SatNav unit. After reading the information on the memory card the root menu will be displayed. Tap the songs title twice on the screen and it will play the songs you selected. Tap Tap to return to the root menu. to return to the previous menu. Tap (UP) and (DOWN) beside the screen to move the cursor to select the songs. Tap the songs title and then tap to play the Music files. Tap the "playback gauge" on the screen to fast forward or rewind. HELPLINE: 01302 720006 9 Other Functions Tap play; Tap Tap to select the preceding track to to select the next track. once to stop the playback, tap to resume the playback. Tap twice to stop playback completely. Tap to select "Repeat One" or "Repeat All". Tap to return to the previous menu. 10 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 Quick Guide to Navigation QUICK GUIDE TO NAVIGATION System Reset Under extreme circumstances it may be necessary to reboot the system. Reset your system if the following situations occur: · Heavy lag experienced with screen refresh rate or operation, resulting in an inoperable system. · System will not turn Off with the power button. · No response with selection on the screen. · Unit locks on re-start. Resetting the system Insert the tip of the stylus into the reset switch on the side of the unit. The system will immediately reset. (You may need to tap on the map to access the main menu) 2.Tap Locations. 3.Type the street name, the house number then name of the town or city. When you have entered all search strings, confirm them with the green tick (you only need to enter a few of the letters of the address and town or city name. The Fuzzy Search function will do the rest. ). 4.Wait for a few seconds. When the list of results is displayed, pick out the location that you are looking for. Confirm your choice by tapping the green tick on the bottom of the screen. Note: When inputting an address or postcode leave a space after the town/city name, street name, number or in the middle of the postcode. PLAN A ROUTE 1.In Main Menu, tap Plan a route. 2.Add your departure location. 3.Add your first destination location. 4.Tap Yes and go to step 5 if you want to add other locations as additional stopovers to your trip. Tap No and go to step 6 to display the map and the departure location. 5.In the Destination screen, select the second destination for your trip 6.The route is calculated. The entire route is shown on the map. Tap "Navigate to" to start travelling along the route you have planned. NAVIGATE TO A DESTINATION VIA INTERMEDIATE POINTS (NAVIGATE VIA) 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate via. 2.Select a single waypoint and then confirm your choice. 3.Tap Yes and go to step 4 if you want to add other locations as additional stopovers to your trip. Tap No to start navigating. 4. In Add waypoint, select another location for your trip. When you have added all waypoints, confirm them and then tap No. FIND A POINT ON THE MAP AND NAVIGATE TO IT 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap Point on map. 3.The map and your current position are displayed. Tap & hold and drag the map in the desired direction. When you see your desired location on the map, tap on it. The pointer indicates this location on the map. 4.Tap "Navigate to" to add this location as your destination. NAVIGATE TO A POI AROUND YOUR CURRENT GPS POSITION 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap POI around GPS position. 3.Select a relevant POI category and confirm your choice. 4.Select an item from the list and confirm your choice. NAVIGATE TO A POI AROUND YOUR DESTINATION 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap POI around destination. 3.Select a relevant POI category and confirm your choice. 4.Select an item from the list and confirm your choice. 12 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 Quick Guide to Navigation NAVIGATE TO A RECENTLY VISITED LOCATION (HISTORY) 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap History. 3.The list with the locations you have visited recently is now displayed on the screen. Select an item in the list and confirm your choice. NAVIGATE TO YOUR HOME ADDRESS 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap Home. (This feature will only work if you have previously stored your home address). NAVIGATE TO YOUR OFFICE ADDRESS 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap Office. (This feature will only work if you have previously stored the address of your workplace). NAVIGATE TO A FAVOURITE LOCATION 1.In Main Menu, tap Navigate to. 2.Tap Favourites. 3.The list of locations you have saved before as favourites is now displayed on the screen. Select the location you need and confirm your choice. (This feature will only work if you have previously stored your favourite addresses). HELPLINE: 01302 720006 13 Safety Camera Alerts Safety camera alerts To activate the fixed safety camera alert facility follow the procedure below; In Main Menu, tap Points-of-interest (POI). Choose POI alarm. Select a POI category (safety cameras in this case) and confirm your choice. This means that, during navigation, you will be warned in advance that you are approaching a known fixed safety camera location. (Icons and distance in top left corner) Select the type of warning you prefer and confirm your choice. (Choose from: Icons and distance in top left corner, Icons and distance in top right corner, Icons and distance at GPS location) (Icons and distance in top right corner) (Icons and distance at GPS location) 14 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 Safety Camera Alerts Select at which distance from the point-ofinterest you want to receive a warning and confirm your choice. Select the warning sound and confirm your choice: Warn only on route ­ When selected, you will be warned only about points-of-interest along your route; when deselected, you will be warned about any points-of-interest along and around the route. Warning sound ­ Select a sound that you like. Tap the left arrow or the right arrow to scroll the list of available sounds. Test sound ­ Tap and listen to the selected sound. HELPLINE: 01302 720006 15 Troubleshooting TROUBLESHOOTING IMPORTANT INFORMATION This GPS SatNav is of robust design. However if it is mistreated or not used in accordance with the instruction manual it could fail to operate correctly and could be damaged. In addition to the instruction manual the following list will help you to avoid some of the most frequent causes of operation failure and damage. If any of the above fail please call the helpline number: 01302 720006 16 HELPLINE: 01302 720006 Frequently Asked Questions FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can an active antenna be used to improve satellite signal pick up? How do I know the unit is fully charged? Yes, the SatNav supports active antennas with MMCX connectors. The LED indicator will illuminate when charging and will turn off when fully charged. The battery will take around 2.5 hours to fully charge. Charging will take longer if the unit is being used while charging. Generally after the battery is fully recharged the battery will last for about 2 hours in navigation mode. Recharge the unit, if this does not solve the problem reset the unit. In some circumstances the aerial can pick up satellite signals in the closed position. The aerial should be raised when using the unit for satellite navigation. No, this can cause data loss and cause the system to crash. Do not remove the memory card when the unit is in operation. How long will the battery last on a full charge? Slow response or blank screen Does the aerial have to be raised to receive satellite signals? Can the memory card be removed when the unit is in operation? If it comes into contact with water spray or is submerged it will seriously damage the components, resulting in irreversible damage. Please do not drop Violent shocks or impact may cause serious damage to the unit. Avoid sudden temperature changes Condensation may form inside the unit when entering a warm room on a cold day. To prevent condensation from damaging the unit, please place into an airtight plastic bag before sudden temperature changes. Keep away from strong electro-magnetic fields When using or storing, keep the unit away from equipment that emits a strong electromagnetic/magnetic field. Operating temperature The product's operating temperature is between -20oC and 70oC; please do not operate under extreme temperatures. Avoid long periods of sunlight or high temperature exposure. Using the stylus The LCD screen is easily scratched; only use the stylus provided to operate the unit. To avoid damage do not use any other sharp object on the screen. Cleaning the screen Use a soft clean cloth to wipe the screen. Do not use ordinary tissue to wipe the screen. Please do not disassemble Do not disassemble the product, this will void the warranty and cause possible damage to the unit. STORAGE If the product is not being used for a long period store in a cool dry place. Please do not keep the product in the following environments: 1. Unventilated and humid location. 2.
