This model is a dual band phone (GSM 900 MHz and DCS 1800 MHz) and therefore can be used abroad, in accordance with the roaming agreements between networks. We remind you that this phone has been approved to meet European standards. We recommend that you read this handbook carefully before using your phone efficiently. WARNING Depending on the configuration of your network and the type of subscription/SIM card, some functions may not be available. Your telephone is only compatible with 3 V SIM cards. Make sure your SIM card is compatible with your phone: otherwise, you will see the message "SIM LOCKED" when switching the phone on.

Navigation principles
These basic principles bring a great deal of intuitiveness to your phone All the active areas are on a white background (icon selector, programmable keys, menu selector, list of choices) Accept by pressing the right programmable key . Activating your phone
Information on the SIM card
To use your phone, you will need a card called "SIM Card". It contains all the information needed by the network, as well as personal information that can not be modified. Secret codes (PIN(s): Personal Identification Numbers), these codes allow you to protect the access to your SIM card. Phonebook, Messages, How special services work. Your phone is compatible with the different SIM cards offered by operators. It is also compatible with the SIM/WIM cards (cards containing the WIM module in addition (WIM = Wireless Identity Module) that are used for secure WAP connections.
WARNING This card must be handled and kept carefully so that it does not get damaged. Should you loose your SIM card, please contact your network provider. Please keep your SIM card out of reach of young children.

Installing the SIM card and the battery

The SIM card is inserted under the phone's battery. Please make sure that the phone is switched off and the charger disconnected.

Turn your phone over. Pull the back catch up (1) and take the battery out (2). Remove the back cover by lifting bottom end first. Slide the SIM card, with cut corner as shown on the phone, into the card holder with fold face down. Place the battery by positioning first the top of it, as shown on the battery. Press to lock.

Activating your phone
Charging the battery
Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. A new battery must be charged for at least 4 hours before being used for the first time. It reaches its optimum capacity after a few cycles of use. If the battery has run down, you will have an icon (empty battery) flashing on the screen of your phone. Put it on charge for at least 15 minutes before making any calls, in order not to be cut off in the middle of a call. Charging the battery Connect the charger to a mains socket. Plug the end of the cable into the bottom connector of the phone. The battery is charging up, the battery charging light flashes to indicate charging. When the battery is fully charged, the charging stops on its own. Disconnect the cable. When charging, the battery may warm up slightly. WARNING There is danger of explosion if the battery is placed in an incorrectly way or if it is exposed to fire. Do not short circuit it. The battery does not have any part that you can change. Do not try to open the battery casing. Use only the appropriate chargers and batteries as shown in the phone manufacturer's catalogue. The use of other types of chargers or batteries may be dangerous or invalidate the warranty. Used batteries must be disposed of in the appropriate places. We advise you to take the battery out if you plan not to use the phone for extended periods. You are strongly advised not to connect your phone to the charger if it doesn't contain a battery. The charger is a safety step-down transformer, it is forbidden to modify, alter or replace it by another component (power supply plug, etc.).

Getting started
You are now ready to use your phone for the first time. Switch the phone on by pressing the Start appears. key. A short display
PIN Number
This is your PIN code of your SIM card. Your phone may ask for the PIN code whenever you switch it on, if such an option has been activated. Enter the 4-8-digit code, which your network provider has given you. These numbers do not appear on the screen for security reasons. Press the right programmable key to confirm. If the screen shows "SIM MISSING", hold down the Stop key to switch your phone off and check that your SIM card is correctly positioned.

WARNING If a wrong PIN number is entered three times, your SIM card will be blocked. You must then: - Enter **05*. - Enter the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code provided by your operator, and confirm. - Enter your PIN number and confirm. - Enter your PIN number again and confirm. After 5 or 10 (depending on the type of SIM card) incorrect entries, the SIM card will be definitely blocked. You must then contact your network provider to get a new one.

Setting time and date
The first time the phone is used, the time and date will need to be set. If the battery has completely run down or been taken out, you will be asked to confirm the time and date. Setting the date: Set the date either by typing it in numerically or by using the up / down arrows to alter the display. Use the key (or key ) to access the next (or previous) data input field. Once the date is correct, press the right programmable key to confirm. Setting the time: Same procedure as above.
Network
From now on, the phone will search for a network on which calls can be made. When one has been found, its name will be displayed on the screen. You are then ready to make or receive a call.
If your provider's icon (or logo) is displayed on the screen, calls can be made on its network. If the letter R and a network name are displayed, calls can be made on that particular network. If the letter R is displayed without any network name, only the emergency services can be called (ambulance, police, fire brigade). If the network icon flashes, the phone is permanently searching for the network. There is no network available. The signal strength symbol, shown on the top right-hand corner, displays the quality of the reception. If it indicates less than three bars, please search for better reception in order to call in good conditions.

First call
Please dial the number. Press the Start key. During the call, an icon (a phone) will be flashing on the screen, and dialling tones may inform you of the making of the call. When the person you have called answers, the call icon stops flashing. You can set the sound level (volume) using the left and right programmable , keys. At the end of the conversation press the Stop key to hang up.
International call Press 0 (long press) to display "+", dial the country code without waiting for the dialling tone and then the number you require. Emergency services Depending on the network providers, you may contact the emergency services with or without your SIM card. You will need to be in an area covered by the network. key. Receiving a call
When you receive a call, the number of the caller is displayed on the screen if such an option has been activated. Press the Start and speak. key or the right programmable key to answer,

First setting: Ring tone
You can assign a particular ring tone to each type of event: for the calls, for the messages or for the alarm. Select one of them by pressing the up / down arrows, and confirm. Enter the menu by pressing the right programmable key .

Enter by pressing the right programmable key . For every new selection, you can listen to the ring tone while you are selecting or you can mute the phone by pressing the Silent mode key to cancel the sound.

The volume is adjusted over a scale of 1 to 4. The ring tone is played at the chosen level whenever a change is made. If you select the "+", the volume of the ring tone will increase in volume. Confirm by pressing the right programmable key .

Phonebook
The phonebook allows you to store numbers that you call regularly. These numbers can be stored in the SIM card or in the phone.
The storage capacity depends on the SIM card. Please contact your network provider to get that information.

Using the phonebook
From the home page press the down arrow to access the main menus. The first menu given is the Phonebook. Press the right programmable key thumbnail to enter the menu. corresponding to the "Accept"
The list of your contacts appears on the screen. If you are using your phone and SIM card for the first time, the phonebook list will be empty, only the Phonebook menu function will be available. Select a contact from the list using the up / down Then press the right programmable key . arrows.

You can also enter a letter to access directly the first contact starting with it. If you know where directly access a contact is located on the SIM card (if for example the contact has been saved on the location n° 21 of the SIM card), you will just need to enter 21*, and the call will be automatically made.

The phonebook menu allows you to create new contacts, to create call groups and to check the memory available to store new contacts.

In the Phonebook menu, press the right programmable key to enter the menu. Press the up arrow to place the cursor on the Phonebook menu and confirm. Choose one of the options given: add contact, call group, memory or my numbers.
Add contact Select Add contact and confirm. Press the right programmable key to enter the menu. Choose where the contact will be saved or stored (on the SIM card or on the phone) using the up / down arrows and validate. Enter the name of your contact and confirm. Enter the phone number and confirm. Choose a call group and confirm. (See page 23: Call groups)

You have the facility to group your contacts into call groups. It is possible to allocate characteristics to each group (icon, ring tone, vibrate).

Messages
The Messages menu allows you to send two types of written messages: SMS and EMS (an EMS is an extended message, longer than an SMS, which allows you to enclose pictures and sounds). You will then be able to send or receive different contents: text, call groups icons, screen savers, ring tones, WAP bookmarks...
Composing messages
This menu allows you to compose your messages. From the Messages menu select the Compose menu and enter. The language used is the one selected on the display of the phone (if the language which has been selected is not compatible with the Easy Message T9TM, the English language will be automatically selected). When the text has been entered, the right programmable key (choice) can also be used to access the functions given:

The Easy Message T9TM helps you to conveniently enter your messages.

Using T9 Mode Press once the key corresponding to the letter chosen and make the word by continuing to press the keys corresponding to the various letters without paying attention to the display, until you have finished inputting the word: it then appears in inverse video. If you agree on the word given, please press the 0 key to confirm, make a space and go on writing the next word. You may find, however, that there are several words in the dictionary corresponding to the sequence of keys you have pressed. If the word that appears is not the word you expected, press the right programmable key indicating to scroll through the words held in the dictionary. Once you agree on the word displayed on the screen, please press the 0 key to confirm and make a space and go on writing the next word. Press the right key to simply accept the characters entered without creating a space and moving on to another T9TM word. If the word you are expecting is not proposed, please go on adding characters until you get the message "Add a word?". Select "Yes", correct the word when necessary and press "OK".

Input modes When composing a message: The navigation keys assume the following functions: - key : Last word - key : Next word - Up key : Previous line - Down key : Next line - Left programmable key : Deletes last character - Right programmable key : Message options - Hold down key: Access to symbol table The ABC mode is used to enter words that do not exist in the dictionary. To get a particular character, please press the corresponding key several times: the characters and the numbers will scroll down on the screen. The 123 mode is used to insert numbers. The Insert mode is used to insert symbols, animations, call group icons and tunes: the SMS then becomes an EMS. Images and sounds can be of two types: pre-defined or customised. The pre-defined images and sounds are smaller, enabling you to send them by text message. Upper case: A hold press on of the key will display the next letter in upper case.
Punctuation characters Punctuation characters are obtained either by pressing the key 1 (except when using 123 mode) or by using the Insert mode (fast access via the key). Accentuated characters Accented characters are generated automatically in T9TM mode. In ABC mode, you can type letters with accents by pressing the key of the corresponding character several times.

The number of messages stored in the SIM card varies depending on the card's capacity.
Receiving messages
When receiving a message, the phone plays the ring tone that has been selected in the Sounds menu, and the message icon comes on the screen.
9 APR
Until you read the message, the message icon stays on the screen. When it flashes, the memory is full. Receiving icons, backgrounds or tunes can take several seconds. A message will inform you of the progress of the download.

At any time, you are able to: - mask this progress screen by pressing the left programmable key to make a call or access other functions of the phone, - or stop the current download by pressing the right programmable key . Please contact your network provider to get information on how to download of icons, backgrounds or tunes.

Messages
Received messages are stored in the SIM card or in the phone until you choose to delete them.
Inbox
From the Messages menu choose the Inbox menu and Select. For each message, the screen shows the type of message (shown by an icon) and the time (or date) it was received. The messages that you have not read are shown in bold writing. They are displayed by chronological order, the latest one being shown first. Select a message and press the right programmable key . Choose one of the options given (Read, Forward, Delete read, reply, reply with original message, call, send, delete, delete all). Attachments (pictures or sounds) that you receive can be saved (in your phone's memory) in order to be used later on. When reading the message, you will need to select the file and choose the "Save option" from the options given by pressing the right programmable key . When storing them, the memory required is shown on the screen. You can access them on the relevant menus (WAP bookmarks in WAP, tune in Sounds, backgrounds in Background, and icons in Call groups).
Drafts
When saving a message, it will be stored on the Drafts menu From the Messages menu choose the Drafts menu and Select. Select a message and press the right programmable key . If you do not delete this message, it will remain as a draft and can be re-used even if you have already sent it. Choose one of the options given (Read, Send, Delete, Delete all, Modify).

Several sending options are offered. From the Messages menu choose the Options menu and Select. Choose one of the options given (acknowledgement, reply offered, validity period - period during which the network will try to send the message before routing it-, message format, message centre number).
Memory
You are able to check the memory available for saving messages From the Messages menu select the Memory menu and Select. The screen shows the memory available on the SIM card and on the phone.

WAP
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol): protocol that translates the Internet language into WML language that can be read by a phone. The WAP function allows you to log onto certain Internet sites. You can log onto sites that allow you to download ring tones, icons or animated screensavers to your phone.
The WAP Menus
The WAP navigator is under licence: The Services menu, a dropdown menu, can be accessed at any time when navigating through WAP pages. Select the top left icon using the up arrow.

Access the menu using the right programmable key. The Services menu contains all the following sub-menus: Welcome: logs onto the home page. (gives the name of your access provider) Bookmarks: is used to save in a phonebook the names and Web site addresses in order to make the access easier. Bookmarks can be received by SMS and add them to this list (see chapter on SMS). You can also send messages by SMS: select a bookmark, press the right programmable key (Choice), then select Send by SMS. Go to URL: this menu allows you to enter an Internet address directly. Inbox: this menu allows you to check the messages sent by the Web site. Save image: Is used to save an image coming from a Wap site. Reload: refreshes the current page. Clear the cache: clears the stored information from previous connections.

WAP
Advanced...: offers the following advanced settings - Configuring parameters - Show URL - Log off - Circuit message (if user can confirm each logon) - Security (is used to access information on making WAP connections secure). About...: information on the browser. Exit: goes back to the phone's home page.
Configuring WAP parameters
Select the Advanced... menu, then the configuration menu. Choose from the sub-menus given: Logon parameters is used to select or modify your access provider's logon parameters or configure the parameters of other access providers. The access service that is active is preceded with a star. Configuration of WAP parameters: All information to be entered in the parameters are provided by your operator or access provider. - Choose the required access service and then press Choice. - Enter the service's title and confirm. - Enter the Internet address of the home page and confirm. The GSM parameters to be entered are: - User name - Password - IP address of WAP gateway - Port type (secure or insecure) - Call number - Access mode (digital, analogue or automatic) In automatic mode, the connection will be made through the digital mode when using the network of your operator. The connection will be made through the analogue mode when using the network of another operator (in roaming)

Once all the settings have been entered, you can activate the chosen access provider. Select him from the list. Confirm your selection by pressing OK. Inactivity time is used to choose the time after which the call is automatically disconnected if you have forgotten to log off from a service.
WAP Logging on
Using the Welcome menu, you can log onto your access provider's WAP site by pressing the right programmable key . If you are logging onto the GSM network, the @ symbol flashes, the counting or the measure of the cost of the call starts as soon as it stops flashing.
Downloading objects
Some WAP sites allow you to download ring tones, icons or animated screensavers. Once downloaded, they are stored in your phone's memory. You can then save them in your phone (please follow the same instructions as for saving a file received by SMS).
WAP Logging off
To log off press the Stop key. The phone will be automatically disconnected once the inactivity time previously defined has run out (if for example, you have forgotten to log off). This period is defined by the inactivity time setting.

Your phone is supplied with the game: Arcade Box. From the Arcade Box menu press Select. Some help is supplied to use the game.

Sounds
This menu allows you to customise the ring tones on your phone and to activate beep and vibrate modes.
Volume and ring tone
This menu allows you to allocate a ring tone to each type of event. From the Sounds menu choose the Ring tones menu and Select. Select the type of event from the list given (Alarm, Calls and Messages) and confirm. Select the ring tone from the list offered and confirm. Set the volume using the up / down arrows and confirm. You can also activate/deactivate the silent mode by holding down the key.
Vibrate
This menu allows you to activate the vibrate mode. From the Sounds menu choose the Vibrate menu and Select. Select Vibrate mode from the options given (vibrate only, vibrate inactive or vibrate plus ring tone) and confirm.

WARNING: the ring tones that you have selected in your Call Groups will always have priority: even if you activate the Vibrate mode on the Sounds menu, if the person who is calling has been saved in a call group having a different ring tone, the Vibrate mode will not be applied. In order to apply the Vibrate mode for every call received, you will need to select the Silent mode.
Silent mode
This menu enables you to select the Silent Mode From the Sounds menu select Silent mode and Select. Activate or deactivate the Silent Mode and confirm. Silent mode can also be accessed via the home page by holding down the key. When the device is in silent mode, the relevant icon appears on the home page. When activated, the phone will not ring , except for the alarm.
Beeps
This menu allows you to activate a beep for each type of event. From the Sounds menu choose the Beeps menu and Select. Select the type of beep you want to allocate from the options given (Key beep, Network beep or Battery beep) and confirm. Activate or deactivate the beep and confirm. If you select key beeps, two additional options are given: key beeps or Dtmf tone (different beep depending on the key pressed).

Background
This menu allows you to customise your screen by choosing the colour, background image, animation or greeting message.
Colours
This menu allows you to display the colours you want on your phone. From the Background menu select the Colours menu and Select. Select the colour you want to be displayed on the screen while navigating through the menus and confirm.
Wallpapers
This menu allows you to display the wallpapers you want on your phone. From the Background menu select the Wallpapers menu and Select. Select the Wallpaper and Select (right programmable key image appears in the background of the home page. ). The
Press the right programmable key to confirm your choice, or the left programmable key to go back.

Background
Greeting message
This menu allows you to customise your greeting message. From the Background menu select the Greeting msg menu and Select. Enter the greeting message that will be shown on the screen (every time you switch the phone on) and confirm.

This menu allows you to customise the settings of your phone to make it as convenient as possible for you to use.
Date / Time
This menu allows you to set the date and time of your phone. From the Settings menu select the Date / Time menu and Select. Date: Set the date either by typing it in numerically or by using the up / down arrows to alter the display. Use the key (or left ) to move to the next (or previous) input field. When the date is correct, confirm it. Time: same procedure as for setting the date.
My Objects
This menu allows you to check how much of the memory space you are currently using. From the Settings menu select the My objects menu and Select. The memory available is shown on the screen. This memory is shared between your downloaded ring tones, wallpapers and screensavers. You can delete some objects in order to increase the memory available for new downloads.

Languages
This menu allows you to choose your phone's display language. From the Settings menu select the Languages menu and Select. Select the required language and confirm. If you select Automatic, the language displayed on the screen will be your SIM card's one.
Networks
This menu allows you to configure network preferences. From the Settings menu select the Networks menu and Select. Select Preferred in order to display all the pre-set networks. Choose Selection to activate (automatically or manually) one of the networks available in the area where you are located.

Contrast
This menu is used to set the contract of the screen. From the Settings menu select the Contrast menu and Select. A test screen is then shown, enabling you to set the contrast, using the up / down arrows.
Short cuts
This menu allows you to allocate functions to the programmable keys. From the Settings menu select the Short cuts menu and Select. Select the key to be modified and confirm. Choose the function that you want to allocate to this key and confirm.

Active flip
By default, calls are answered by opening the flip and you will just need to close it to hang up. That facility can be deactivated. From the Settings menu select the Active flip menu and Select. This menu allows you to modify these settings: - On opening: this menu enables you to activate or not the option of taking the call by opening the flip. - On closing: this menu enables you to activate or not the option of hanging up by closing the flip.

The Calls menu allows you to manage and consult all your phone's incoming and outgoing calls that are shown as follows: Incoming call Outgoing call
Calls forwarded
This menu enables you to forward incoming calls. Depending on your subscription, this service allows you to forward incoming calls to a different number or voice mail box. From the Calls menu select the Calls Forwarded menu and Select. Select the required type of forwarding and confirm.

Fast access to the list of calls from the home page: press the Start key.
View last calls
This menu allows you to check the last numbers used. From the Calls menu select the View last calls menu and Select. For every phone call, the screen shows: - the call's characteristics (indicated with an icon), - the time (or date), - its duration. Select a call from the list and confirm. Choose one of the options given (Call, store in your phonebook, send a message, delete, delete all). You can also make the call by pressing the Start key.
Counters
This menu allows you to check the duration of the outgoing calls. From the Calls menu select the Counters menu and Select. Choose the required type of counter and confirm.

Display number
This menu enables you to configure the display number function. From the Calls menu select the Display numbers menu and Select. Choose one of the options given (Anonymous mode, My number, Caller's number). Anonymous mode This function enables you not to display your phone number on the receiver's screen. Initial: network default mode. No: The anonymous mode will not be activated and therefore your phone number will be shown . Yes: The anonymous mode will be activated and therefore your phone number will not be shown.

Calls
During a call you may be informed that a caller is trying to contact you: you hear a special tone. The caller's number is displayed on the screen (or the caller's name if it has been stored).
Call waiting
Depending on your subscription, this option may not be available. From the Calls menu select the Call waiting menu and Select. You can activate, deactivate or check the status of that function. During a call, if a second caller tries to contact you, the screen displays the call warning.
Automatic redial
This menu allows you to call back a person you tried to reach. From the Calls menu select the Auto redial menu and Select. Different options are given : inactive, on demand or systematic. If you choose On demand, the phone will prompt you to automatically dial the caller's number, if the line is busy.

Blacklist
The blacklist is used to limit failures on automatic calls (calls generated by the automatic redial function or by applications : data, fax for example). From the Calls menu select the Blacklist menu and Select. When several automatic calls failed with a number (number busy or unknown), this number is put in the blacklist and no automatic call will be done with this number any more until you delete it from the blacklist. Note: this function does not apply to the calls performed manually.
Voice mail number
This function is used to set your voice mail number. This number will be used when calling the voice mail box, using the programmable keys. From the Calls menu select the Voicemail nb. menu and Select. Enter your answer phone number and confirm.

Local info
This menu enables you to receive local information sent by your network provider. You can choose whether you wish to receive this information or not. Please contact your network operator. From the Calls menu select the Local info menu and Select.

Security
This menu allows you to configure your phone's security settings.
PIN number
This menu allows you to activate and modify the PIN number of your SIM card. From the Security menu select the PIN number menu and Select. To modify the PIN, select Modify and Select. Enter the old PIN number and confirm. Enter the new PIN number twice and then confirm. To activate or deactivate this function, select the Check PIN menu and Select. Enter the PIN number and confirm. Select Activate or Deactivate and confirm.
PIN number 2
You have a second PIN number that gives you access to certain functions.* * Depending on your SIM card, this function may not be available. Proceed as above in order to activate, deactivate the PIN number 2 of your SIM card.
