Read and understand all safety and operating instructions before the radio is operated. 2. Retain instruction: The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. 3. Heed warnings. All warnings on the appliance and operating instructions should be followed. 4. Follow all operations and use instructions. 5. Water and Moisture: The appliance should not be used near water. Do not use near a bathtub, washbowl, laundry tub, kitchen sink, wet basement, swimming pool, etc. 6. Unplug the radio from the AC power outlet before cleaning. Use only a damp cloth for cleaning the exterior of the radio. 7. Do not place the radio on an unstable cart, stand, bracket or table. The radio may fall, causing serious personal injury and damage to the radio. 8. Ventilation: This radio should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, the radio should not be used on a bed, sofa, rug or other soft surfaces that may block the ventilation openings. It should not be placed in a built-in situation like a cabinet that may reduce air flow through the ventilation openings. 9. Power sources: The radio should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your radio dealer or power company. 10. Power cords: The power cord should be positioned so it is not walked on, pinched, or items placed on top of it. Pay particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the unit. Unplug the power cord by gripping the power plug, not the cord. Operate the radio using 1 only the correct type of power source indicated. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local power company. 11. Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords. This can result in a risk of fire or electrical shock. Never insert objects of any kind into the radio through opening. If the radio is left attended and unused for long periods of time , unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage caused by lightning or power line surges. 13. If the radio is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, remove the batteries. The batteries may leak and damage furniture or your radio. 14. Do not attempt to service the receiver yourself. Removing the cover may expose you to dangerous voltage, and will void the warranty. Refer all servicing to authorized service personnel. 15. Object and Liquid Entry ­ Never push objects of any kind into this radio through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short ­out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. 16. The appliance should be serviced by qualified service personnel when: A: The power supply cord or the plug has been damaged. B: Objects have fallen or liquid has been spilled into the radio. C: The radio has been exposed to rain or water . Battery level indicator M. Dial scale 4 Battery operation 1. Remove the battery cover on the rear of the unit by pushing the catches in the direction of the arrows. 2. Insert four UM-1 (D size) batteries into the space in the compartment. Take care to ensure all batteries are inserted with the correct polarity as shown inside the battery compartment. Replace the battery cover. 3. Reduced power, distortion and a `stuttering' sound are all signs that the batteries may need replacing. 4. If the radio is not to be used for any extended period of time, it is recommended that the batteries are removed from the radio. We would recommend for economy that the PR-D2(V) is used on the mains power supply whenever possible with battery operation for occasional or stand-by use only. Battery replacement 1. The battery indicator will appear in the display for 7 seconds after the radio is switched on or off. The indicator will show when the batteries are fresh. The battery should be replaced when the indicator show or the battery power is too weak to turn on the radio ( will flash for 7 seconds ). After removing the batteries you have approximately 3 minutes to replace the batteries after which the clock and memory information will be lost . Mains power operation Place your radio on a flat surface. Plug the mains lead into the mains socket located on the rear of your radio ensuring that the plug is pushed fully into the socket. The batteries will be automatically disconnected . The AC cord should be disconnected from the mains supply when not in use for long periods . 5 Setting the clock 1. The clock will start running when the batteries are installed or when the radio is connected to the mains supply. The display will show 0:00 (PR-D2) or 12:00 (PR-D2V). 2. Ensure that the radio switched off. 3. Press the Band (Time Set/ST. MO.) button, the hours digits will flash in the display followed by a beep sound. 4. Press Tuning up/down button to set the required hours. 5. Press the Time Set button, the minute digits will flash in the display. 6. Press the Tuning up/Down buttons to set the required minute. 7. Press the Time Set button to complete time setting. GB Operating the radio Your radio is equipped with four tuning methods-Scan tuning, Rotary tuning, Manual tuning and Memory preset tuning. Scan tuning 1. Press the Power button to turn on the radio. 2. Select the required waveband by repeatedly pressing the Band button. For the FM/TV(PR-D2V) band fully extend the Telescopic aerial and set it at an angle of 45 degrees. 3. Press and hold down either the Tuning up or Tuning down buttons for more than 0.5 seconds to commerce scan tuning. 4. The radio will scan selected waveband and stop automatically when it finds a station of sufficient strength. The tuning indicator will appear in the display. 5. To recommence scan tuning, press and hold down either the Tuning up or Tuning down buttons for more than 0.5 seconds. 6. When the waveband end is reached, the radio will beep and continue tuning from the opposite waveband end. 7. Rotate the Volume control clockwise to increase the volume and anticlockwise to decrease the volume. Set the Tone control to the desired setting. 8. To turn off the radio press the Power button. 6 Manual tuning 1. Press the Power button to turn on the radio. 2. Select the required waveband by repeatedly pressing the Band button. For the FM/TV (PR-D2V) band fully extend the Telescopic aerial and set it at an angle of 45 degrees. 3. A single press on either the Tuning up or Tuning down buttons will change the frequency in the following increments: FM 50 or 100 kHz (PD-D2), 100 kHz or 200 kHz (PR-D2V) MW 9 kHz or 10 kHz (PR-D2V) TV 1 channel (PR-D2V) 4. When a station is correctly tuned, the tuning indicator will appear in the display. Note: when the waveband end is reached, the radio will beep and continue tuning from the opposite waveband end. 5. Rotate the Volume control clockwise to increase the volume and anticlockwise to decrease the volume. Set the tone control to the desired settings. 6. To turn off the radio, press the Power button. Rotary tuning 1. Press the Power button to turn on the radio. 2. Select the required waveband by repeatedly pressing the Band button. For the FM waveband/TV (PR-D2V), fully extend the Telescopic aerial and set it at an angle of 45 degree. 3. Rotate the Tuning control to change the frequency in the following increments: FM 50 kHz MW 1 kHz TV 1 channel (PR-D2V) 4. When a station is correctly tuned, the tuning indicator will appear in the display. Note: when the waveband end is reached, the radio will beep and continue tuning from the opposite waveband end. 5. Rotate the Volume control clockwise to increase the volume and anticlockwise to decrease the volume. Set the Tone control to the desired settings 6. To turn off the radio, press the Power button. 7 Storing stations in preset memories There are 5 memory presets for each waveband. 1. Press the Power button to turn on the radio. 2. Tune to the required station using one of the methods previously described . 3. Press and hold down the required preset for until the radio beeps (greater than 2 seconds). The preset number will appear in the display and the station will be stored under the chosen GB preset button. 4. Repeat this procedure for the remaining presets. 5. Stations stored in preset memories may be overwritten by following above procedure. Recalling stations from preset memories 1. Press the Power button to turn on the radio. 2. Select the required waveband by repeatedly pressing the band button. 3. Momentarily press the required Preset button, the preset number and station frequency will appear in the display. Setting the radio alarm When the radio alarm is selected, the radio will turn on and play the last station listened to. The radio alarm will sound for one hour unless turned off by pressing the Power button. Press the Power button whilst the alarm is sounding will cancel the alarm for 24 hours. 1. The radio alarm time can be set with the radio switched off. 2. Press and hold down the alarm radio button (preset no. 5) until the hour digits and alarm symbol flash in the display followed by a beep tone. 3. Set the required hour using the Tuning up/down buttons. 4. Press the alarm radio button, the minute digits will flash in the display. 5. Set the required minute using the Tuning up/down buttons. 6. Press the alarm radio button, display will flash alarm lasting time (from 1 hour to 4 hours) to be set for radio alarm. Using Tuning up/down to select required alarm lasting hours then press the alarm radio button again to complete alarm radio setting. 7. To permanently cancel the alarm radio, press the alarm radio button until symbol is removed from the display. 8 Setting the HWS (Humane Wake System) alarm A beep tone will sound when using the HWS alarm. The alarm beep will increase in volume every 15 seconds for one minute followed by one minute silence before repeating the cycle. The HWS alarm will sound for one hour unless turned off by pressing the Power button. Pressing the Power button whilst the alarm is sounding will cancel the alarm for 24 hours. 1. The HWS alarm can be set with the radio switched off. 2. Press the HWS alarm button (Preset no. 4) until the hour digits and alarm symbol flash in the display followed by a beep tone. 3. Set the required hour using Tuning up/down buttons. 4. Press the HWS alarm button, the minute digits will flash in the display. 5. Set the required minute using the Tuning up/down buttons. 6. Press HWS alarm button to complete alarm setting. 7. To permanently cancel the alarm, press the HWS alarm button until the symbol is removed from the display. Snooze function 1. Whilst the alarm is sounding, press any button (except the Power button) will active the snooze function. The radio or HWS alarm will be silenced for 5 minutes. 2. The display will flash both the snooze symbol and the alarm symbol. The snooze function can be repeatedly during the 1 hour that the alarms are active. 9 Sleep function The sleep timer will automatically switch off the radio after a preset time has elapsed. 1. Press and continue to hold down the Power button for more than 2 seconds, followed by 2 beep tones, the display will cycle through the available sleep times in the order 90-60-30-15-90. GB Release the Power button when the required sleep time appears in the display. The symbol will appear in the display and the radio will play the last station selected. 2. To cancel the sleep function, press the Power button, the symbol will disappear and the display will revert to showing real time. Display backlight When the radio is powered via the mains, the display backlight will be remain illuminated while pressing the Light button unless turned off by pressing the Light button. When your radio is powered by batteries pressing the Light button will turn on the display backlight and illuminate the display for approximately 15 seconds. The display backlight may be turned off immediately by pressing the Light button. The display backlight will remain illuminated after pressing the Light button if you continue operating the radio. The display backlight will be turned off automatically after 15 seconds of your last operation to the radio. 10 Setting tuning step Tuning steps on some countries are different from where you purchase the radio. If you buy the radio in Europe and intend to use it in Northern America or some Southern American countries, you may have to adjust tuning step so the radio may continue to serve you well. While radio is switched off, press Preset 3 button (Step) for more than 7 seconds until display FM and 100 kHz (tuning step) are flashing followed by a beep tone. By pressing Tuning down button, you may adjust to 50 kHz per tuning step. After FM tuning step is re-set, press Preset 3 button, display will show MW and flash 9 kHz. By pressing Tuning up button, you may adjust to 10 kHz per tuning step. Complete the setting by pressing Preset 3 button. Similar thing will happen if you purchase PR-D2V in Northern America and wish to use it in Europe or other countries. Use same way as above to change the tuning step to fit your listening area. DST (Daylight saving time) While radio is switched off, press Preset 1 button (DST) for more than 2 seconds to advance the real time for one hour. Display DST symbol will appear. To be back to normal time, press Preset 1 button for more than 2 seconds until display DST symbol disappears. Headphones socket A 3.5 mm Headphone socket located on the right-hand after Tone control button of your radio is provided for use with either headphones or an earpiece. Inserting a plug automatically mutes the internal loudspeaker. 11 Stereo/Mono button The radio is designed to receive FM stereo broadcasting with headphones connected to the headphones socket. If the reception is weak, continue pressing Band (Time Set. ST/MO ) button for more than 2 seconds to change from Stereo to Mono. In display, stereo indicator will disappear. GB External AM antenna socket (PR-D2V only) Connect your outdoors AM antenna to improve the AM band reception. Reset button If the radio fails to operate correctly, or some digits on the display are missing or incomplete, carry out the following procedure. 1. With the aid of a suitable implement (the end of a paper clip), press the Reset button located on the underside of your radio for at least 5 seconds, this will reset the microprocessor, clock time and clear all stations stored in preset memory. Agua y humedad: No debe usar este aparato en las proximidades del agua. Desenchufe la radio de la toma de corriente de CA antes de limpiarla. Use só lo un pañ o húmedo para limpiar el exterior de la radio. 7. No coloque la radio sobre un carro, estanterí a, soporte o mesa inestable. Podrí a caerse y provocar heridas graves en las personas o dañ os en la propia radio. 8. Ventilació n: Esta radio debe situarse de forma que su ubicació n o posició n no impida una adecuada ventilació n. Por ejemplo, no debe usarse sobre una cama, sofá, alfombra u otra superficie blanda que pueda bloquear los orificios de ventilació n. No debe colocarse en un interior, como un armario, que pueda reducir el flujo de aire a travé s de los orificios de ventilació n. 15 9. Fuentes de alimentació n: La radio só lo debe conectarse al tipo de fuente de alimentació n indicada en la etiqueta de marca. Si no está seguro del tipo de fuente de alimentació n de su domicilio, consulte al vendedor o a la compañ í a de suministro elé ctrico. 10. Cables de alimentació n elé ctrica: El cable de alimentació n elé ctrica debe colocarse de modo que nadie pase por encima, E ni quede pellizcado; tampoco deje ningún elemento sobre é l. Ponga una especial atenció n al cable en las proximidades del enchufe y a la zona de salida de la unidad. Desenchufe el cable tirando del enchufe, no del cable. Ponga en funcionamiento la radio usando só lo el tipo de fuente de alimentació n adecuado que se indica. No sobrecargue las tomas de corriente ni los prolongadores. Puede provocar un incendio o una descarga elé ctrica. No inserte nunca objetos de ninguna clase en la radio a travé s de sus orificios. La radio deberá repararla personal del servicio té cnico autorizado cuando: A: Esté n dañ ados el cable de alimentació n o el enchufe. B: Hayan caí do objetos o lí quido en la radio. C: La radio haya estado expuesta a la lluvia o al agua. D: La radio no funciona correctamente o muestra un acusado cambio de rendimiento. Escala circular de sintoní as 18 Manejo de las pilas 1. Quite la cubierta del compartimento de las pilas situado en la parte posterior de la unidad presionando sobre las presas en la direcció n de las flechas. 2. Inserte cuatro pilas de tipo UM-1(tamañ o D)en su lugar correspondiente del compartimento. Compruebe que las pilas están insertadas según la polaridad indicada en el interior del compartimento. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta de las pilas. 3. Una potencia reducida, la presencia de distorsiones y un sonido `irregular' son indicativos de que tal vez sea necesario cambiar las pilas. 4. Si no va a usarse la radio durante un perí odo prolongado de tiempo, es aconsejable sacar las pilas. Por economí a, se aconseja utilizar la PR-D2(V) con la alimentació n elé ctrica de red siempre que sea posible, empleando las pilas só lo para usos ocasionales o en modo de espera. Cambio de las pilas 1. El indicador de carga de las pilas aparecerá en la pantalla durante 7 segundos despué s de encender o apagar la radio. El indicador mostrará cuando las pilas esté n a plena carga. Las pilas deben cambiarse cuando el indicador muestre o la potencia sea demasiado dé bil como para encender la radio (parpadeará durante 7 segundos). Despué s de sacar las pilas dispone de unos 3 minutos para colocar unas nuevas; transcurrido ese tiempo, se perderá la informació n del reloj y de la memoria. 19
