L-508Cine Operating Manual
Thank you for purchasing L-508Cine meter. This operating manual gives you additional information to L-508 Operating Manual. Please read the L-508 Operating Manual for basic operation before you start to use your L-508Cine. This manual exclusively describes specialized features and operations in Cine mode for L508Cine. While in Still mode, you can select standard functions for Still pictures identical to L-508's functions. L-508Cine Specialized Features
The L-508 Cine has additional features to L-508 which are useful for motion picture, video, theatre, industrial lighting and many other applications. · Cine mode and Still mode page 1
L-508Cine has Cine mode and Still mode, which can be alternated with the DIP switch located in the battery chamber. In Cine mode, you can select special features such as Foot Candle/Lux or Foot Lambert readout and Shutter angle change. · Foot Candle or Lux or Foot Lambert (Cine mode only) page 1 When cine mode is selected, you can select Foot Candle readout or Lux readout in incident mode or Foot Lambert in reflected mode. · Shutter Angle Settings (Cine mode only) page 3 You can select a shutter angle setting from 5° to 270° in 5° step and obtain compensated readout without additional calculation. · Expanded Cine Speed Settings (Cine/Still mode) page 4 The wide range of time settings from 1 f/s to 1,000 f/s can meet from framing pictures to high speed filming as well as video applications. · Filter Compensation (Cine/Still mode) page 4 You can select one of the 7 major filter combinations and obtain compensated readouts. · Measurement Lock (Cine/Still mode) page 5 When Measurement Lock is activated, the last readings and f/s (frames per second) setting will be protected from accidental change. · Low range f/stop readout (Cine/Still Mode) page 5 The f/stop range, f/0.5~f/90 digital in 1/10 step, f/0.5~f/45 analog in ½ step, can meet low light shootings required for measurement and memory functions. · Independent Exposure Compensation (Cine/Still mode) page 5 Exposure compensation can be made in incident or reflected modes separately for personal ISO adjustment or user calibration. · Maximum 5 memories (Cine/Still mode) Up to 5 readings are memorized on the f/stop analog scale

2. Setting DIP switches (Cine/Still mode) / 3. Selecting Shutter Angles (Cine mode) 4. Setting Cine Speeds (Cine/Still mode) / 5. Filter Compensation (Cine/Still mode)
Note: Shutter angle settings can be changed only when a cine speed is displayed.
4. Setting Cine Speeds (Cine/Still mode) 1. Turn the Set/change dial to select the desired cine speed. Cine speeds are displayed after 1/8000, 1/200, 1/400 and the unit is in frames per second (f/s.) . The following cine speeds will be displayed: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 18, 24, 25, 30, 32, 36, 40, 48, 50, 60, 64, 72, 75, 90, 96, 100, 120, 125, 128, 150, 200, 240, 250, 256, 300, 360, 375, 500, 625, 750, 1,000 frames per second.
5. Filter Compensation (Cine/Still mode) 1. Hold the IS02 button and turn the Set/change dial to select the symbol representing the desired filter number. 2. The seven different symbols for filter numbers are displayed after IS08000. The symbol and the filter compensated readout are displayed while holding down the ISO2 button. The example drawings right are "85-" or "n9-" symbol is selected. See the Filter Conversion table below. Symbols on 85n3n6LCD Filter No. 85 ND3 ND6 Exposure -0.7 -1 -2 Compensation (-2/3)

6. Measurement Lock and Measurement Lock Off (Cine/Still mode) 1. Hold down the MODE button and ISO button and "Loc" will appear to indicate that the Measurement is locked. The last measurement is held until the lock is released, even if the Set/change dial is accidentally moved. 2. To release the Measurement lock, perform the same operation for the Measurement lock. Hold down the MODE button and ISO button and "Off" will appear to indicate that the Measurement lock is released. 7. F/stop analog/digital range The ranges of the f/stops displayed: F/stop on the analog scale: f/0.5 to f/45 in 1/2 step F/stop digital: f/0.5 to f/90 in 1/10 step 8. Exposure Compensation (Cine/Still mode) L-508Cine is calibrated accurately to Sekonic standard and no further correction of the meter is required. However, if you want to change the exposure index for your specific requirements, the L-508Cine can be adjusted in precise 1/10 step in a +/- 9.9 EV independently in Incident or Reflected mode. It is recommended that the correction should be made after your taking sufficient number of test in actual photographic conditions and evaluating the results. 1. Select either Incident mode or Reflected mode with the Incident/Reflected Selector according to the mode you want to make correction. 2. Hold down the ISO button and IS02 button simultaneously, and turn the Set/change dial.
· Turning the dial counterclockwise produces a higher reading resulting underexposing when taking a photograph. -5-
6. Measurement Lock and Measurement Lock Off (Cine/Still mode) 7. F/stop analog/digital range / 8. Exposure Compensation (Cine/Still mode)
· Turning the dial clockwise produces a lower reading resulting overexposing when taking photograph.
Note: In case you want to manually calibrate the reflected measurement of an 18 per cent gray card to exactly match an incident measurement, use the Flat diffuser (Lumisphere down position) for best results in calibration.
