[Menu] > 17:35 Safety All radio transmitters are subject to restrictions such as: Switch off in hospitals and in the vicinity of medical electronic devices, e.g. pacemakers or hearing aids. While driving: Do not hold the phone in your hand (Accessories, ¼ p. 35). Mobile phones must be switched off at all times in an aircraft. Prevent accidential activation. Switch off near petrol stations, fuel depots, chemical plants or blasting operations. Minor interference may affect TVs, radios, PCs, etc. Please note: Neither the phone nor the battery may be opened under any circumstances. 3 We recommend you use only Original Siemens batteries and charging devices. Otherwise considerable health risks and damage to the product cannot be excluded. Dispose of used batteries according to the legal regulations. We recommend you use only Original Siemens accessories to avoid possible damage. The ring tone is reproduced through the earpiece. First accept the call, then hold the phone to the ear. Use the keypad to write numbers or letters. Navigation key To scroll, press the key at the right or left as indicated. Use the softkey for the function displayed above. Correction key: Press briefly to clear the last character, hold down to clear the word or the number. Call key On/Off/Disconnect key Network-dependent feature. Not available from all network providers. Bold text indicates a displayed function which is executed using the corresponding key. Pressing briefly takes you back one menu level. 6 Getting Started · Turn the card and holder over (the SIM card contacts are face down) and insert into the device as indicated by the arrow. 1. Insert SIM Card Your service provider will supply you with a SIM card, which stores information regarding your connection and billing details. "Care of Your SIM Card", ¼ p. 34. Older SIM cards are only compatible if they are 3 V mini SIM cards. Contact your service provider if you have any questions or problems. If a credit card sized SIM was delivered snap the smaller section out. Switch the phone off before removing the battery. · Unlock and remove the battery cover. 2. Insert and Charge Battery To Insert the Battery · Insert the battery as indicated below (contacts on top end). · Remove the SIM card holder. · Insert the SIM card into the holder. Ensure that the angled corners and contact surfaces are correctly positioned. · Refit the cover, ensure the top end is flush before pressing it closed (until it clicks). Getting Started To Charge the Battery: Your new battery will not be fully charged: · Insert the plug ot the charger into the socket in the phone (see illustration below). · Plug the charging unit into the mains power socket (first checking the rated voltage of the charging unit). 7 3. Switch Telephone On 8 Hold down to switch on. If Insert SIM Card is displayed, check that the SIM card is correctly inserted (¼ p. 32). 4. Emergency Call You can contact the emergency services at any time even without a SIM card. Simply dial 112 (999 in the UK). K The charging progress is shown on your display. You may use your phone whilst charging. Battery is fully charged. J Charging complete. 5. Enter PIN Your SIM card is provided with a PIN to prevent misuse: · To release, squeeze the arrows on the plug together and remove. gh i c ab pq rs l jk de f tu v o mn . Enter the PIN. Charging Time Allow at least 3 hours for your first few charges. 1.5 - 2 hours are enough after this. PIN The SIM card will be blocked after the third incorrect PIN entry (¼ p. 32). To switch on/off PIN control or to change your PIN number (¼ p. 29). Usage Time A full charge can provide from 60 to 150 hours standby, or from 90 to 240 minutes talk time (depending on use and network conditions). A beep sounds when the battery needs charging. 8 Getting Started 7. Switch Telephone Off 8 Hold down (in standby mode). J 6. If the Date/Time function is on (¼ p. 27), you will see the time displayed. B D Strong reception signal. If the signal is weak, call quality or continuity may be impaired. You can normally improve reception by moving to a window or open space. If you are outside your "home" network (¼ p. 30) or abroad, your phone will automatically select another GSM network (¼ p. 30). Your network provider may restrict the selection of another network (¼ p. 30). Key Lock Activating the key lock prevents keys being pressed inadvertently. Hold down. The key lock is activated. Any key can now be pressed without a function being executed. Deactivating the key lock: Hold down. Making Calls Dialling with the Keypad The telephone must be switched on (standby). . 9 International Number An international number comprises the international prefix, the country code (e.g. 49 for Germany) and the national number (often without the first digit): Always enter the number with the area code (where applicable with the international code). U J Hold down until "+" appears. Enter the country code and number. Press. . : 089987654321 [Save] You can use the ? key to correct any mistakes. : Press. The number displayed is dialled. You can use the [Save] function to store the number in your Phonebook (¼ p. 11). Ending Calls 8 Press. Press this key even if the other party hangs up first. The call is ended. For easier, quicker, error-free use you can: · · · · Redial numbers. Use the Phonebook (¼ p. 12). Use speed dialling (¼ p. 14). Dial numbers in messages (¼ p. 16). 10 Making Calls , Redialling : Answering Calls In certain cases, the caller's name or number is displayed (¼ p. 11). : The last numbers dialled are stored (max. ten, depending on your SIM card). Press. Press. A list is opened of the last numbers dialled. N : Unwanted Calls You can reject unwanted calls. If you receive a call: Scroll to the required number. Press. The number displayed is dialled. 8 or Press. The caller hears the busy tone. Press. Processing Lists You can save an entry to a list or delete the list. : N N [Busy] Divert is on appears if call diversion is activated (¼ p. 28). Press. Scroll to the required entry. Scroll to the required option. Press to save an entry to a list or delete the list. Active Number , [Options] Press. [Select] When an alternative number is registered for the telephone it is possible to switch between numbers in standby mode: Press. Line / Press to switch the line. Phonebook You can enter frequently dialled numbers along with the associated names in the Phonebook, enabling you to dial quickly and without errors. If caller number transmission is activated, the name of the caller is shown on the display, providing there is a corresponding entry in the Phonebook. 11 Writing Names Press the digit keys repeatedly until the character you want appears. The cursor advances after a short delay. ? Press once briefly for A, twice for B, etc. Press briefly to erase the character preceding the cursor, hold down to erase the whole word. Press to switch between upper and lower case letters (only applies to the adjacent character). The first character is written in upper case as standard. Press to create a space. Numbers and letters with accents appear after letters. Press briefly to move the cursor from character to character. Hold down to move from word to word. Saving Numbers When you are in standby mode you can make a new entry: . Always enter the number with the area code. For frequent travel abroad, enter the international code (¼ p. 9). Entering Other Characters These keys are used for punctuation, common icons and Greek characters. Available characters (¼ p. 17). You may enter a range of numbers for the same person, e.g.: · Ann O (Office) · Ann H (Home) The entries are sorted alphabetically, however only the first six letters of each name are taken into account. 8 or : Return to standby mode to enter another number. Dial the number. A number can consist of up to 20 characters. Up to 250 Phonebook entries can be made, depending on the SIM card. 12 Phonebook New Entry [Menu] Phonebook Calling from Phonebook You can access the Phonebook directly from standby mode (¼ p. 5): N . [OK] J Ann Andrews [Options] : Edit Phonebook Entry Several options are available for each displayed entry: [Menu] Phonebook [Options] Press. Phonebook Menu Own Number The first entry in the Phonebook is reserved for your own phone number. This means that you can display your own number at any time. You cannot dial this number. If your number is not already entered, you can do this as follows: [Menu] Phonebook [Set] Press. Enter the number. Confirm entry. View entry Edit entry The number is displayed with a flashing cursor: ?/. Alter the number. [OK] Confirm changes and repeat for entering the name. Delete entry Clear Phonebook Capacity The memory available on the SIM card is displayed. . [OK] Alternative Line , If your SIM provides an alternative line (Line ), you can view or set the second number. Phonebook Saving the Tone Sequence You can save your numbers in your Phonebook together with tone sequences (digits), e.g. for remote reply of an answering machine. 13 Information Numbers , . Your service provider can equip your SIM card with information numbers. These numbers can be stored together in directories (e.g. hotels, weather). The numbers or directories are automatically available as entries in the Phonebook. If appears beside an entry, it can only be dialled in the local network. Enter the number. Hold down until a "+" appears (pause during connection setup). Enter the digits. If necessary insert more pauses to ensure that the numbers are processed securely on the receiver side. Dialling Information Numbers [Menu] Phonebook * . Scroll to the required directory. Press to open the directory. Scroll to the required entry. Press. The number is dialled. [Select] * : Sending a Tone Sequence A tone sequence can be entered manually after a connection has been set up: Active Line , . Enter the numbers for the tone sequence. [Menu] Phonebook The line is active in the following example. You can switch to Line . U J Service numbers , Your service provider can equip your SIM card with service numbers. If this case, you will see as an entry in your Phonebook. [Menu] Phonebook * : [Line ] Scroll to the required service number. Press. The number is dialled. Press > to switch to [Line ] in this example. 14 Fast access dialling Next Speed Dialling Number U J To accelerate dialling, you can define speed dialling numbers for the entries in your Phonebook. You can use the digit keys 2 - 9 for this purpose. The number for checking the mailbox is assigned to the digit key . 3 [Ann An...] Press >. U J Assigning Speed Dialling Numbers This is how to allocate a speed dialling number (in this case 3): Ann Andrews <3> * : [Set] N [Reset] Press. Press to open the Phonebook. Scroll to the required entry. Confirm. Scroll to the required speed dialling number. Press. The number is dialled and the connection is set up. [Select] Changing Speed Dialling Numbers You can change a speed dialling number. U J The speed dialling number (in this case 3) is linked with the selected Phonebook entry. Making Calls using Speed Dialling Numbers Enter the speed dialling number. The Phonebook entry corresponding to the speed dialling number is displayed. U J 3 [Ann An...] Press >. The Phonebook entry and corresponding speed dialling number are displayed. Twice in succession: [Reset] Press. 3 [Ann An...] : Press. The number is dialled and the connection is set up. Assign a new speed dialling number (see above). Only the first six characters of a name can be displayed. During a Call Changing the Volume You can set the handset volume while a call is in progress. There are five volume settings. U J 15 Rejecting Calls You can reject a new call: 8 Press. Time/Units Call Waiting You are on a call and make a call to a second subscriber. Enter the number. Press and select entry from Phonebook. Press. The connection is set up. The call duration or the units are displayed during and after a call (¼ p. 27). , If someone calls you while you are on a call, you will hear a Call Waiting signal. If may be necessary to apply to your service provider to have this function enable. To activate/deactivate Call Waiting or to check the status of the function (¼ p. 37). In both cases the current call is put on hold and the new call is set up. You can swap between the two calls. U J I +491729876 I Answering Calls : [Swap] Press. Press > to swap. The first call is placed on hold and the new call is answered. You can now toggle back and forth between the two calls (swap). U J Ending a Connection 8 [OK] Press. Confirm the prompt. You return to the call on hold. I +491729876 I [Swap] Press > to swap. 16 Text Messages (SMS) Options While Reading You can access the following functions when reading a message: [Options] Press. * Your phone can receive and send text messages (Short Message Service, SMS). Your service provider will advise you concerning service availability and operation. Reading New Messages A new text message is indicated by the following icon 6: U 6 J Scroll to the required function and then: Press to execute a function. [Select] Call active no. Save active no. Saves the number in your Phonebook. [Menu] To read the message: [Menu] Events New Message The display indicates the date and time at which the message was received. N Reply to sender Sends a reply to the originator. Edit Message Edits the received message. Can also be used to enter a new address. Scroll to read the number and the message. Delete Message 6 The end of the message is indicated by a mark. When you have read the message you will be asked if you want to delete this message.You should delete messages regularly as the capacity of your SIM card is limited (see below). N Flashes when the message memory is full. You cannot receive any more messages when the memory is full. Press to confirm the security prompt. [Delete] Once you have read the message scroll to the next one. Press to dial a selected number in the text message (`08998765432_). : Text Messages (SMS) Writing and Sending Messages You can create text message containing up to 160 characters. To send a text message, this must first be forwarded to the Service Centre. The number of your Service Centre is usually preset. Otherwise you must enter this manually (¼ p. 19). The Service Centre number is available from your service provider. [Menu] Messages Create Message 17 Writing Text Press the digit keys repeatedly until the character you want appears. Options While Writing When writing a message, other functions are available in addition to the send function: Save message Saves the message. Inbox In the incoming list, there are several options when a message is displayed: Insert from: % Opens the Phonebook to select a number. New Message [Menu] Messages Incoming List Read Message Read new message. * Insert new line Begins a new paragraph. Discard message Delete the text input. [Options] Press. * Scroll through the message. Scroll to the required function and then: Press to execute the required function. For editing options when reading (¼ p. 16). Old Messages [Menu] Messages Incoming List [Options] [Select] Info If the message could not be sent, you are given the option of repeating the action. If the send action fails again, check that your Service Centre number is correctly set (¼ p. 19). Note that "Message sent!" means that the message has only been received by your Service Centre. It will then try to send it on to the recipient within a certain period of time.
