USA. r fo ot N om C se U al i rc me 3 Introduction The BluetoothTM headset HBH-30 is a portable headset solution based on Bluetooth wireless technology. See "Guidelines for safe and efficient use" on page 13 and "Limited Warranty" on page 15 before using your headset. What is Bluetooth wireless technology? The Bluetooth wireless technology makes it possible to connect any compatible portable and stationary communications device without using cables. The technology is based on a radio link that offers fast and reliable transmission of voice and data information. It does not require a line-of-sight connection in order to establish communication. Bluetooth wireless technology uses a globally available frequency range intended to ensure communication compatibility worldwide. r fo ot N om C se U al i rc me How can I use my headset? You can connect your HBH-30 headset to your mobile phone or PC ­ or any device with Bluetooth wireless technology that supports the Headset profile. This user's guide focuses on how to use the headset with your mobile phone. When the headset is connected to your mobile phone, you can use voice control to make calls (if your phone supports this function). The phone can be tucked away in your pocket or in a bag. You can handle incoming and outgoing calls, and adjust the volume, using the buttons on the headset. 4 Introduction Preparing the headset To be able to use the headset together with a mobile phone, you need to have a phone with built-in Bluetooth capability, or a phone with a Bluetooth adapter connected to it. Car holder Use the adhesive tape on the back of the car holder to fasten it to the dashboard in your car. Preparing the headset 5 Getting Started Before you start using the headset with a phone or other device for the first time, you should: · Charge the headset battery, using an appropriate Sony Ericsson charger. · Pair the headset with a device, for example, a mobile phone. Charging The headset comes with a built-in rechargeable battery. The battery is not fully charged when you buy the headset. We recommend that you charge the battery until the headset indicator light turns green before using the headset for the first time. To remind you that you will soon need to recharge the battery, the headset indicator light flashes red when the headset is on. It takes 1 to 1.5 hours to fully recharge the battery. During charging, the indicator light shows a steady red light if the headset is turned off, and flashes red if the headset is on. When the battery is fully charged, the indicator shows a steady green light if the headset is off, or a flashing green light if the headset is on. · · · · r fo ot N om C se U al i rc me To charge the battery Compatible chargers You can attach the following Sony Ericsson or Ericsson chargers to the HBH-30: · Travel Charger CTR-10 · Standard Charger CST-13 · Cigarette Lighter Adapter CLA-11 · Connect the charger to the headset and to the mains. Make sure the flash symbol on the plug faces the speaker. 6 Preparing the headset To disconnect the charger To turn the headset off · Press and hold until you hear a short high tone followed by a short low tone. The headset indicator light is switched off. · Tilt the charger plug downwards to remove it. Instructions Instructions in this user's guide are based on headset buttons and phone keys. For example, the button or the YES key on the phone can be used to answer a call. To turn the headset on · Press and hold until you hear a short low tone followed by a short high tone. The headset indicator light flashes green. If the battery is low, the light flashes red. Note: The first time the headset is turned on, it will automatically be ready for pairing. r fo ot N om C se U al i rc me Pairing the headset Before you can use your headset, you must pair it with the device you want to use it with, for example, a mobile phone. Once you have paired your headset with the phone, you do not need to pair it again until you want to use it with another phone. General pairing instructions You pair the headset with the phone by adding it to a list of paired devices in the phone. They then recognize each other when they connect. To pair the headset (general instructions) 1. Prepare your phone according to the phone's user documentation on pairing. 2. Press for up to 10 seconds until the indicator light on the headset flashes green and red. The headset is now ready for pairing. 3. Continue according to the instructions in the phone's user documentation. The headset passkey is 0000. Preparing the headset 7 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. To pair the headset with a Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone With the headset turned off, press and hold for up to 10 seconds until the indicator light on the headset flashes green and red. In the phone, scroll to Extras or Connect, YES, Bluetooth, YES, Paired devices, YES, Add device, YES, Phone initiates, YES. A list of device types that you can pair with your phone appears. Scroll to Headset and press YES. Make sure that the phone and the headset are not too far apart. HBH-30 appears in the display. Press YES. Enter the headset passkey (0000) and press YES. The phone pairing procedure starts. You may now replace the given headset name with a personal name tag and then press YES. When pairing has been completed, the headset indicator light flashes green. Resetting the headset You may want to reset the headset to its default settings. This also clears all current pairings. r fo ot N om C se U al i rc me To reset the headset 1. With the headset turned off, press and hold for up to 10 seconds until the indicator light on the headset flashes green and red. Then release the button. 2. Press and hold again until you hear two beeps, followed a moment later by another two beeps. The headset is now turned off. Keep the headset off for at least 30 seconds. The headset has now been reset. Right or left ear If you want to wear the headset on your left ear, you have to change the orientation of the ear hook. To adjust the ear hook for left-ear use: · Turn the hook 180 degrees. 8 Preparing the headset Putting on the headset Using the headset Once you have paired the headset with your phone, you can make and receive calls using the headset as long as it is turned on and within range of the phone ­ up to 10 m (30 ft) outdoors or up to 5 m (15 ft) indoors with no solid objects in between. For best performance use the headset and phone in the same room. If your phone supports voice dialling and it is activated, you can use this feature with the headset. The following instructions cover the use of the headset with a Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone with built-in Bluetooth capability, or a Bluetooth phone adapter from Sony Ericsson and a Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone. Note: Always make sure the Bluetooth Operation mode in the phone is on when using a Bluetooth headset. Making calls Phone functionality is still available when the headset is connected. You can make a call with the phone or with the headset. 1. Put on the headset with the ear hook behind your ear. 2. Make sure the microphone is pointing towards your mouth. r fo ot N om C se U al i rc me Using the headset 9 To make a call using voice dialling 1. Make sure the phone and the headset are on and within range of each other. Press . 2. After the beep, voice dial as you normally would. If using the Bluetooth phone adapter: Say the voice command after the phone beep (not after the headset beep). To know when the phone beeps in relation to the headset beep, make a test call using voice dialling. 3. End the call by pressing . You can also make a call using the phone's keypad or phone book (if, for example, your phone does not support voice dialling). Answering calls buttons during a second call. Refer to the phone's user documentation on how to handle more than one call simultaneously. To answer a call using 1. When the headset rings, press . Note: If the phone rings first, wait until the headset rings, then press . 2. End the call by pressing . To answer a second call · You have to use the phone keypad to answer and handle a second call, but you can still use the headset for talking and listening. Using voice commands Voice commands are especially useful when you are using the headset. For information on voice commands, refer to the phone's user documentation. Adjusting the speaker volume You can adjust the headset speaker volume during a call. Lost connection to headset If the connection to the headset is lost during an ongoing call you must confirm the sound transfer to the phone by pressing the YES key on the phone, otherwise the call is disconnected after 30 seconds. Headset battery status The headset comes with a built-in battery. . . Note: The headset uses increasing volume. For safety reasons, it starts with a low volume level before the maximum set level is reached. Transferring sound from phone to headset If you make a call without using the headset, you can transfer the sound to the headset if the headset is on, paired with the phone and within range. To transfer the sound to the headset · During a call, press and hold to transfer the sound to the headset. The headset beeps until the sound has been transferred. If the headset is turned on after a call has been initiated, you can transfer the sound to the headset by pressing and holding . r fo ot N om C To check the battery status 1. No sound contact between headset and phone The headset and the phone you are using with it have to be paired to recognize each other. They also have to be within range of each other. The outdoor range is up to 10 m (30 ft), but solid objects or the surroundings can affect the range.
