Date and Time Configuration on page 8 allows you to set or adjust the date and time of the library. User Management on page 9 allows you set up users that are permitted access to the RMC and define their passwords. Utilities on page 12 allows you to perform maintenance functions on the RMC including software upgrades and rebooting the RMC system. Tandberg Data M-Series Remote Management Card User's Guide 1 Chapter 1 RMC Server Management Management Console Web Pages Management Console Web Pages 1 Internet browser software is not supplied with the RMC. You must obtain and install a browser independently. The Management Console supports the following Internet browsers: · Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 You can download this software from http://www.microsoft.com. Netscape Communicator 4.78 and 6.2 You can download this software from http://www.netscape.com. · Accessing Management Console Web Pages To access the Management Console Web pages: 1 On the host computer, open the Internet browser software. 1 2 The RMC is set with the following defaults: Table 1 RMC Defaults Field Use DHCP Hostname Domain IP Address Subnet Mask Default Gateway Description Enabled PMC300-[MAC address] [local domain] 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 [default or blank] By default, the RMC card uses Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and is enabled for assignment of IP addresses. The network defines and assigns the IP address based on the range allowed by the network administrator. 2 Tandberg Data M-Series Remote Management Card User's Guide Chapter 1 RMC Server Management Management Console Web Pages If DHCP is not available on your network for IP addressing, the DHCP request times out after approximately 30 seconds. The RMC then assigns itself the static IP address of 192.168.1.1. If 198.168.x.x is already used in the network, 10.0.0.x will be used instead. In the Address field of your browser, type http://192.168.1.1/. This static IP address is the default address for accessing the RMC. The Subnet Mask default is 255.255.255.0. If your subnet mask is different, you need to set up an isolated network, access the RMC, and modify it from the Management Console Web pages and add it into the appropriate network. Note: In some cases, you may have to temporarily configure a host computer's network configuration to the IP address 192.168.1.x, where x is some number between 2 and 254. Enter the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. Using your browser, enter 192.168.1.1 to access the Management Console Web page. At this point, change the RMC network configuration to an appropriate IP address and subnet mask for your network. If you are still having problems accessing the IP address, contact your local system administrator for information on including the RMC in your network. The Internet browser displays the Management Console Home page as shown in figure 1. Tandberg Data M-Series Remote Management Card User's Guide 3 Chapter 1 RMC Server Management Management Console Web Pages Figure 1 M-Series Remote Management Card Home Page Banner and link to the Tandberg Data Web site Navigation frame Status icon Management frame Using the Management Console Web Pages 1 The first page that displays when you access the Management Console Web pages is the RMC Home page as shown in figure 1. This page includes information on the library status as follows: · · · Unable to communicate with library Library is available Library is unavailable --initializing --demo running --diagnostic running The status Unable to communicate with library indicates a communications problem between the RMC and the library, such as a bad serial connection from the RMC to the library, or a conflicting baud rate between the library and the RMC. Note: The RMC communicates with the library at the library's default baud rate of 38400. You may use the menu on library's front panel to check or set the library's baud rate. 4 Tandberg Data M-Series Remote Management Card User's Guide Chapter 1 RMC Server Management Management Console Web Pages The library status Library is available indicates a new installation or the library is ready for normal operation. The status Library is unavailable indicates the library is in Standby mode, Stop mode, initializing, demo mode, diagnostics in progress, or that SCSI communication is disabled. This means the library is not available to the host system for backup operations. The Home page is divided into four sections: · · The banner section displaying the corporate logo and software name. The navigation frame displays a list of the Management Console Web pages. To view a page, select its corresponding link. The status icon displays the state of the library. The management frame displays the page selected from the navigation frame. · · To return to a previous Web page, select the appropriate page from the navigation frame. The Tandberg Data logo in the banner portion of the page is a link to the www.tandberg.com Web site. The status icon indicates the state of the library by two colors. This icon is also a direct link to the library status page. The user name and password may need to be entered to access the page. The colors of the status icon display the following corresponding states: Color Green Red Library Communication Status Library is available Library is unavailable --initializing --demo running --diagnostic running (Service mode) --in Standby or Stop mode Unable to communicate with library Tandberg Data M-Series Remote Management Card User's Guide 5 Chapter 1 RMC Server Management Network Configuration First Time User Account Setup 1 Accessing another page for the first time from the Home page requires you to enter a user name and password. Note: A default user name (admin) and password (admin) is provided with the installation of the RMC. To protect the integrity of your network and RMC access, a new administration account should be set up when you begin using the RMC with your library. After this is accomplished, delete the existing admin account. Please refer to Adding User Accounts on page 10 and Deleting User Accounts on page 12. Caution: Accessing Online Help 1 The Management Console Web pages provide extensive online help files defining actions and terms for every function, feature, and field within the RMC. For more information, see Getting Help on page 51. Accessing the Tandberg Data Web Site To access the Tandberg Data Web site: 1 1 Click the Tandberg Data logo in the banner frame of the RMC Home page as shown in figure 1. This link launches the Internet browser and displays the Tandberg Data Web site. 2 To return to the Management Console Web pages, press Back in the browser frame. Network Configuration The following sections provide information on configuring and setting up the RMC. 1 6 Tandberg Data M-Series Remote Management Card User's Guide
