OPERATION
1. Power On/Power Off/Pause Function Power On/Off: Press the Play ( ) button on the main unit for 1~2 seconds Pause: Press the Play ( ) button briefly during playback to pause, and press again to resume playing. 2. Track Select/Search Function ( , ) Select/Search: Press the SELECT button briefly, right or left. 3. Volume Control (VOL -/+) Function Adjust the volume.

Start/ Stop Voice Recording and LINE IN Recording (REC) Function Start recording: Press and hold the REC button Stop recording: Press and hold the REC button Voice recording is only available when there is free space on the disk. Voice recording is available in MP3 mode. To playback recorded files, select the recorded file in the ENCODE Directory and press the Play ( ) button to playback the file. 5. Start/ Set/ Cancel A-B Repeat Start A-B Repeat: press the REC button briefly during playback (A ). Set A-B Repeat: press the REC button briefly during playback (A B) . Cancel A-B Repeat: press the REC button briefly during playback . 6. Set/ Cancel HOLD Set Hold: Move the HOLD button in the appropriate direction . Cancel Hold: Move the HOLD button in the opposite direction . 7. Search Function (Forward/Rewind) Forward Search: press and hold the right SELECT button ( ) during playback. Rewind Search : press and hold the left SELECT button( ) during playback. Search progresses every 5 seconds. 8. Repeat Function (REPEAT): Press the Select button briefly during playback Normal : listen to all songs in the directory only one time. Repeat One : repeat only one selected song. Repeat Directory : repeat all songs in the directory. Repeat Shuffle : repeat all songs in the directory randomly.

9. Menu Setting Function Menu Function : Press and hold the SELECT button. Move in Menu : press the SELECT button briefly to the right ( ) to move to a lower menu and press briefly to the left ( ) to move to an upper menu. Select Menu : Press the SELECT button briefly. Close Menu : Press and hold the SELECT button or press to the left ( ) briefly.

ENCODE: directory where voice recording and LINE IN recording files are stored. 2) Setting Function 1. Back Light: set the back light time as desired. The setting can be adjusted to OFF, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds and ON. 2. LCD Contrast: set the brightness of the LCD. The setting can be adjusted to 0 ~ 10. 3. Language: select the language. You can select English, Chinese, Korean or Japanese. (ENGLISH, CHINESE (S), CHINESE(T), KOREAN, JAPANESE)

4. BEEP: set the sound effect to ON/OFF. (ON/OFF) 5. RESUME: set to start playing from the area of the song that was played before the power was turned off. (ON/ OFF) 6. RESET: reboots the product. (ON/OFF) 7. INFO: shows the information on the product. Check firmware version (Firmware) Shows capacity of remaining disk (Disk Space) 3) Equalizer Function (Sound Effect) 1. PRESET Setting FLAT: to listen in normal tone CLASSIC: to listen in classical tone JAZZ: to listen in jazz tone ROCK: to listen in rock tone USER EQ: to listen in a user-set custom tone 2. User Setting (USER'S EQ) The user can set the bandwidth of frequency. 4) Recording Function (RECORD) 1. INPUT SELECT LINE IN: record from an external device VOICE: voice recording with the integrated microphone 2. Bit Rate LOW: 64Kbps MIDDLE: 128Kbps HIGH: 192Kbps

5) Listen to FM Radio 1. Find Frequency: Press the SELECT button briefly to the left or right ( , ) to find the frequency you want. 2. Search Frequency: Press and hold the SELECT button to the left or right to search for frequencies automatically. 3. AUTO PRESET Function: Press and hold the REC button (1~20 channels can be saved). 4. Search Saved Frequency: Press the SELECT button briefly to search for a saved frequency, from channels 1 to 20 in succession. 5. Convert to Music Mode: press and hold the SELECT button. Note Broadcasts may not always be clearly received in areas where there is a poor electricity supply or where reception is not good.

USING WITH PC
1. Recommended PC Specifications Supports Pentium 133MHz or above Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP 20MB free hard disk space CD-ROM drive USB port (1.1/2.0) VGA graphics 64MB RAM or above
2. Download File 1. While the unit is turned off, connect the USB cable to the USB port of the PC, and the USB port of the MP-1000. The battery charge screen will appear in the LCD. 2. Press and hold the SELECT button. 3. Execute Windows Explorer in the PC. 4. Select the file to save, and drag and drop it to the removable disk.

Caution If you connect the USB cable while the unit is playing, the charging screen may not appear, and it will not be detected by the PC. If you disconnect the USB cable during file download or upload, it may cause problems. The order of music files that appears when you select the removable disk in Windows Explorer is not related to the actual order of playback. Make sure to set the file system to FAT before formatting. 3. Install Mass Storage Driver (For WIN98) 1) Insert the installation CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive. 2) Connect the USB Cable between the MP-1000 and the PC's USB port. 3) The Windows OS will automatically detect a new Hardware device. Then it starts to install the USB driver for WIN98 (Mass Storage Driver).

4) You must select the directory in the CD-ROM drive and put the USB Driver file. (ex. D:\Drivers). 5) Follow the instructions in the screen to finish installation 6) When you reboot the Computer, you will find that the USB storage driver is installed (Check in My Computer ->Properties ->Device Manager)
Notes Make sure to log in as the Administrator to install it if you use Windows 2000 or XP . Windows SE, ME, 2000, XP can detect the driver without separate program installation. The driver will not be detected in Windows 98 if you do not install the program. 4. Firmware Upgrade 1. Download and save the latest firmware upgrade file to a PC. 2. Connect the MP-1000 to the USB port of the PC. 3. Copy the downloaded file to the "CONFIG" folder of a removable disk. 4. Press and hold the REC button to return to the charging screen. Then press the Play button ( ) to start the upgrade automatically. 5. When the upgrade is finished, the charging screen reappears. 6. Disconnect the USB cable.

5. Disconnect USB Cable After finishing the file transfer, make sure to disconnect the cable in the following way. 1. Double-click the green arrow in the task bar on the lower right of the Windows screen, and then disconnect the USB cable.
2. Select the USB device and press the [Stop] button.
3. Press the OK button in the Stop Hardware Device window.
CAUTIONS
1. Avoid subjecting the main unit to severe impact, which could lead to failure. 2. Avoid locations where there is dust, moisture, magnets, sunlight or heat. 3. Avoid locations or materials that may result in static electricity.

4. Unauthorized disassembly, repair or modification may lead to failure and invalidate the warranty. 5. Listening at high volumes for long periods of time may damage your hearing. 6. Do not use headphones or earphones while driving a car or motorcycle or riding a bicycle. 7. Do not turn up the volume of your headphones or earphones while using a pedestrian crossing.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Check the following before asking for service. I cannot turn on the power. Check the capacity of the normal battery and the charge level of the rechargeable battery Check whether the "Hold" switch is in lock status. I pressed a button on the MP-1000, but it is not working. The "Hold" switch is in lock status. I cannot hear any sound, or the noise is too loud. Check whether the volume is set to "0". Check whether the earphones are properly connected to the port. Check the earphones if you can only hear sound from one side. Check whether the music file is damaged. I can hear noise but cannot tune in when I try to listen to the radio. Change the orientation of the earphone and move the unit around. Move the product away from other electronic appliances and try again. The earphone acts as the radio antenna, so you cannot listen to broadcasts without using it. I cannot connect to a PC, or cannot download a file. Check the USB connection between the computer and the MP-1000.

1. Check the symptoms before requesting A/S service. 2. If you still cannot solve the problem by checking the symptoms, fill out the A/S application form in the TEAC homepage (www.teac.de/rma).

According to the following terms this TEAC product will be repaired without charge of labor and materials by the authorized TEAC service stations, by the authorized TEAC dealers and/or their authorized service stations. TEAC, the authorized TEAC service stations, the authorized TEAC dealers and/or their authorized service stations may decide wether the defective product will be repaired or replaced as a whole or partially. The TEAC dependancies, the authorized TEAC service stations, the authorized TEAC dealers and/or their authorized service stations will also honour this warranty in the other EC and EFTA member states based on the terms in this warranty conditions. What is Covered and What is Not Covered. Except as specified below, this warranty covers any defects in materials and workmanship of this product. The following are not covered by the warranty: 1. 2. Damage, deterioration or malfunction resulting from: (a) accident, misuse, abuse or neglect; (b) failure to follow instructions supplied with the product; (c) any shipment of the product. Any damage arising of transportation is the liability of the freight company. Any damage arising of transportation and any implicit and explicit risks are the liability of the freight company.This is expressivly not a liability of TEAC; (d) repair or attempted repair by anyone not authorized by TEAC to repair this product; (e) causes other than product defects, including lack of technical skill, competence or experience of the user. Especially damages which may arise of incidential use respectively by improper ventilation, (f) damages caused by improper or incorrect installation of software, (g) periodic check-ups, (h) maintenance respectively repair of parts due to normal wear and tear, (i) adoptions or adjustments to the product in order to conform to different national technical or safety standards of any country other than the one for which the product was originally designed and manufactured.
Who May Enforce the Warranty This warranty may be enforced only by the original retail purchaser. What We Will Pay For We will pay all labor and material expenses for items covered by the warranty. Payment of shipping and insurance charge is discussed in the next section of this warranty. How You Can Get Warranty Service 1. If your unit needs service during the warranty period, please contact the local authorized distributor for this product. If you are unable to locate such a distributor, please contact your TEAC facility at the address indicated below.

After identifying the nearest authorized service station for this product the product or any parts believed to be defective must be shipped freight and insurance prepaid to such service station, together with a copy of this warranty certificate and a copy of your sales receipt, showing the date of purchase. Please ensure to fill out the warranty certificate correctly (do not forget the serial number of the product). TEAC reserves the right to refuse the guarantee service if the documents are missing or incomplete in the understanding of this terms. If the necessary repairs are covered by the warranty, and if you have sent the product or parts of it to the nearest authorized service station, the return freight and insurance charges will be prepaid. Please do not return your unit to the TEAC factory without out prior authorization (see also RMA form)!
Limitations of Liability and Exclusion of Implied Warranties Unless considered unenforceable or unlawfull under the applicable national law: TEAC's liability for any defective product is limited to repair or replacement of the product, at TEAC's option and the option of authorized service stations, authorized dealers and their authorized service stations. No one is authorized to assume any greater liability on TEACs behalf. TEAC shall not be liable for any damage to any other properties independant of their virtual or real nature especially there is no liability for any damage to any kind of software and/or any kind of databases caused by TEAC products. Furthermore TEAC is not liable for damages arising out of loss of use, loss of revenue or profits, or any other damages, wether incidential, consequential, or otherwise. 2. All implied warranties or conditions, including but not limited to warranties or conditions of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, hereby are excluded.
