Its unique design allows it to be powered from a variety of sources: 1) From the built-in rechargeable Ni-MH rechargeable battery that takes charge from the dynamo crank and from an AC adaptor (AC adaptor only included with FR200G Model); 2) From 3 AA batteries; 3) From the AC adaptor alone (AC adaptor only included with FR200G Model); 4) From the dynamo crank alone, even with no battery pack installed. To use this radio with AC power, an AC Adaptor is needed. When purchasing an AC Adaptor, it must meet the following specifications: Output of 4.5 volt DC; negative polarity; 80-100 milliamperes current capability; plug tip outer diameter of 3.4 millimeter, inner diameter of 1.3 millimeter. For the FR200G Model, a proper AC Adaptor is included. An AC Adaptor of 80-100 milliamperes, as noted above, should charge the radio in approximately 8 hours, after which the adaptor can be left plugged in if desired and the battery will not overcharge. IMPORTANT NOTE: If using an AC adaptor rated higher than 80-100 milliamps, or one other than that included with the FR200G, do not allow it to charge for more than two hours and unplug the AC adaptor after charging. If using such an AC adaptor to continuously power the radio, unplug the internal rechargeable battery. 6 AA BATTERY OPERATION This radio is designed to operate on three AA batteries (not included). Alkaline batteries should be used for longest playtime. Install the batteries by removing the battery compartment cover and following the battery polarity diagrams imprinted on the underside of the cover. Remove the cover by simultaneously pressing on the indentation labeled OPEN and pulling it down toward the bottom of the radio. Turn the radio on by setting the POWER SELECTOR switch to the BATTERY position. NOTE: if an AC adaptor is in use, the AA batteries are switched off automatically. 7 DYNAMO POWER The Ni-MH battery pack can also be charged by turning the dynamo crank following the instructions below: 1. Switch the power selector to the POWER OFF position. 2. Turn the dynamo-crank vigorously either clockwise or counterclockwise. The red charging LED will be lighted during charging. NOTE: It can be charged while the radio is playing, however it does not charge as efficiently, thus reducing playtime. With hand-crank dynamo charging, radio operation time depends on the number of turns and time per turn. On the average, 60-90 seconds of vigorous cranking results in about 40-60 minutes of radio play at low volume, without light use. If the light is on while playing the radio, the radio playtime will be dramatically reduced. The light will always result in the Ni-MH battery discharging at a faster rate. 5 EXTERNAL POWER/RECHARGEABLE BATTERY Plugging an AC adaptor (AC adaptor only included with FR200G Model) into the DC 4.5 V socket on the back of the radio will provide power for operation and will charge the Ni-MH battery pack. To play the radio, set the POWER SELECTOR switch to the DYNAMO ADAPTOR position. The Ni-MH battery pack will charge with the POWER SELECTOR switch set in any of its positions. 8 9 FR200/FR200G OPERATION MANUAL 8 EMERGENCY OPERATION Even if no power source is available, including the Ni-MH battery pack, the radio and the light can still be operated by continually turning the dynamo crank. Set the POWER SELECTOR switch to the DYNAMO ADAPTOR position. OPERATION GUIDE continued HOW TO OPTIMIZE SHORTWAVE RECEPTION Being aware of the following information will help you get the best results listening to shortwave. · Shortwave reception is best around sunrise, sunset, and at night · Night shortwave is usually superior to day shortwave reception · During the day, frequencies above 13 MHz are usually best · At night, frequencies below 13 MHz are usually best · Around sunset and sunrise, the entire shortwave range may be good · Getting very close to a window improves shortwave reception · Holding the radio improves shortwave reception HOW TO USE THE EMERGENCY LIGHT Set the FLASHLIGHT to the ON position. HOW TO USE THE EARPHONE JACK Plug in a set of earphones (Earphones only included with FR200G Model) of your choice that have a 1/8 inch mono or stereo plug. When using earphones the built-in speaker will be switched off automatically. Note that stereo earphones will work and sound will be heard from both sides, although FM is not received in stereo. 9 OPERATION GUIDE HOW TO TURN ON AND OFF Turn it on by selecting a power source of your choice as described above and then by setting the POWER SELECTOR switch to the DYNAMO ADAPTOR or BATTERY position. Turn it off by setting the POWER SELECTOR switch to the POWER OFF position. HOW TO ADJUST THE VOLUME Turn the VOLUME control knob until the desired volume level is heard. HOW TO TUNE-IN STATIONS Set the band selector rotary switch to the FM, AM, SW1, or SW2 position. Tune stations in with the TUNING knob, using the superimposed FINE TUNING control as desired. For best FM and shortwave reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna. FM reception can often be improved by rotating the telescopic antenna. For AM reception, the telescopic antenna need not be extended, as the AM antenna is an internal, directional, ferrite bar antenna. For best AM reception, rotate the radio until the best signal strength is achieved. See the next section for how to optimize shortwave reception. 10 PRECAUTIONS 1. Do not drop and keep away from fire. 2. Do not use abrasive powders to clean the cabinet. Wipe it with a soft cloth moistened with a mild soap and water solution. 3. Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust or mechanical shock. 4. Always remove the batteries from the radio when it is not going to be used for a long time. This will prevent the batteries from leaking inside the battery compartment. ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY continued During the warranty period Etón or an authorized Etón service facility will provide, free of charge, both parts and labor necessary to correct defects in material and workmanship. At their option, Etón may replace a defective unit. (1) Complete and send in the Warranty Registration Card within ten (10) days of purchase. (2) Call Etón or the nearest authorized service facility, as soon as possible after discovery of a possible defect. Have ready: (a) the model and serial number. (b) the identity of the seller and the approximate date of purchase. (c) a detailed description of the problem, including details on the electrical connection to associated equipment and the list of such equipment. (3) Etón will issue a Return Authorization number and the address to which the unit can be shipped. Ship the unit in its original container or equivalent, fully insured and shipping charges prepaid. Correct maintenance, repair, and use are important to obtain proper performance from this product. Therefore carefully read the Instruction Manual. Pour utiliser de récepteur sous alimentation CA, un adaptateur CA est nécessaire. Lorsque vous achetez un adaptateur CA, il doit satisfaire les spécifications suivantes : Sortie de 4,5 volt en c.c. ; polarité négative ; capacité de courant de 80 à 100 milliampères ; diamètre externe du bout de la fiche de 3,4 millimètres, diamètre interieur de 1,3 millimètres. Un adaptateur CA correct est compris avec le modèle FR200G. Un adaptateur CA de 80 à 100 milliampères doit, comme indiqué ci-dessus, charger la radio en 8 heures environ, après quoi l'adaptateur peut être laissé branché dans la radio si vous le désirez, sans danger de surcharge de la pile. Le bloc-piles Ni-MH se chargera pendant que le commutateur POWER SELECTOR est sur une position quelconque. 7 FONCTIONNEMENT SOUS LES PILES AA Le FR200 est conçu pour être utilisé avec trois piles AA (non comprises). Pour obtenir le temps d'utilisation le plus long possible, utilisez des piles alcalines. Installez les piles en enlevant le couvercle du compartiment des piles et en suivant les diagrammes de polarité de pile imprimés au dos du couvercle. Enlevez le couvercle en appuyant sur l'indentation étiquettée OPEN et en le tirant au même moment vers le fond du récepteur. Allumez le récepteur en mettant le commutateur POWER SELECTOR sur la position BATTERY. REMARQUE : si un adaptateur CA est utilisé, les piles AA seront immédiatement mises hors circuit. évalué à plus de 80 à 100 milliampères ou un adaptateur autre que celui qui est compris avec le FR200G, ne le laissez pas charger la batterie pendant plus de deux heures, et débranchez l'adaptateur CA après avoir fini de charger. Le voyant DEL rouge de chargement s'allumera pendant le chargement. REMARQUE : Il peut être chargé pendant que la radio est utilisée, cependant il ne se chargera pas de manière aussi efficace, ce qui réduira le temps d'utilisation. 10 GUIDE D'UTILISATION COMMENT ALLUMER ET ÉTEINDRE LE FR200 Allumez-le en sélectionnant la source d'alimentation de votre choix de la manière indiquée ci-dessus, puis en mettant le commutateur POWER SELECTOR sur la position DYMANO ADAPTOR ou BATTERY. Éteignez-le en mettant le commutateur POWER SELECTOR sur la position POWER OFF. COMMENT AJUSTER LE VOLUME Tournez le bouton de commande VOLUME jusqu'à ce que vous entendiez le niveau de volume voulu. COMMENT SYNTONISER LES STATIONS Mettez le commutateur rotatif de bandes de fréquences sur la position FM, AM, SW1 ou SW2. Syntonisez les station à l'aide du bouton TUNING, en utilisant la commande FINE TUNING superposée si vous le voulez. Pour obtenir la meilleure réception FM et ondes courtes, déployez complètement l'antenne télescopique. La réception FM peut souvent être améliorée en faisant tourner l'antenne télescopique. Pour la réception AM, il n'est pas nécessaire de déployer l'antenne télescopique car l'antenne AM est une antenne barre de ferrite qui est interne et directionnelle. Pour obtenir le meilleure réception AM, faites tourner la radio jusqu'à ce que vous obteniez la meilleure puissance de signal. Lisez la section suivante pour l'optimisation de la réception ondes courtes. COMMENT OPTIMISER LA RÉCEPTION ONDES COURTES Le conseils suivants vous permettront d'obtenir les meilleurs résultats possibles lorsque vous écoutez des émissions ondes courtes. · La réception ondes courtes est la meilleure possible pendant le lever et le coucher du soleil, et la nuit. Si vous chargez manuellement le bloc-piles avec la manivelle du générateur, le temps d'utilisation du récepteur dépendra du nombre de tours de manivelle et de la durée de chaque tour. En moyenne, 60 à 90 secondes de tours vigoureux de manivelle permettront environ 40 à 60 minutes de temps d'utilisation sous volume bas, sans utilisation de la lampe. Si la lampe est allumée pendant que vous utilisez la radio, le temps d'utilisation sera fortement diminué. L'utilisation de la lampe provoquera toujours une déchargement plus rapide de la batterie Ni-MH. 9 UTILISATION EN SITUATION D'URGENCE Même si aucune source d'alimentation n'est disponible, y compris le bloc-piles Ni-MH, le récepteur et la lampe peuvent quand même être utilisés en tournant la manivelle du générateur de manière continue. Ne laissez pas tomber la radio et éloignez-la du feu. 2. N'utilisez pas de poudres abrasives pour nettoyer le boîtier. Essuyez-le avec un chiffon doux humidifié avec une solution d'eau et de savon doux. 3. Ne laissez pas l'appareil près d'une source de chaleur ou à un endroit exposé directement à la lumière du soleil, à la poussière excessive ou à des coups mécaniques. 4. N'utilisez pas ensemble des piles neuves et usées ou différentes marques et types de piles. 5. Retirez toujours les piles de la radio lorsqu'elle ne sera pas utilisée pendant de longues périodes. Für den Gebrauch dieses Radios mit Wechselstrom ist ein Netzteil erforderlich. Beim Kauf eines Netzteils muss auf die folgenden Spezifikationen geachtet werden: Ausgabe von 4,5 Volt GS, negative Polarität; Kapazität von 80-100 mA; Außendurchmesser der Steckerspitze 3,5 mm, Innendurchmesser 1,3 mm. Mit dem Modell FR200G wird ein geeignetes Netzteil mitgeliefert. Ein Netzteil von 80 bis 100 mA (siehe oben), sollte das Radio in ungefähr 8 Stunden aufladen. Wenn erwünscht, kann das Netzteil danach eingesteckt bleiben, ohne dass die Batterien überladen werden. WICHTIGER HINWEIS: Wenn ein Netzteil mit mehr als 80 bis 100 mA verwendet wird, oder ein Netzteil, das nicht mit dem FR200G mitgeliefert wurde, den Akku nicht länger als zwei Stunden aufladen lassen und das Netzteil nach dem Aufladen herausziehen. Wenn ein derartiges Netzteil als kontinuierliche Stromquelle für das Radio verwendet wird, den Stecker des internen wiederaufladbaren Akku ziehen. 6 STROMZUFUHR VON AUSSEN UND LADEN DER BATTERIEN Durch das Einstecken eines Netzteils in die GS-Buchse für 4,5 V auf der Rückseite des Radios (ein Netzteil wird nur mit dem Modell FG200G mitgeliefert) wird Strom für den Betrieb des Radios und zum Aufladen des NI-MH -Akkus geliefert. Zum Einschalten des Radios den Schalter STROMZUFUHRWAHL in die Stellung DYNAMO / NETZTEIL bringen. Der Ni-MH -Akku wird in allen Stellungen des Schalters STROMZUFUHRWAHL geladen. 7 BETRIIEB MIT AA -BATTERIEN Das Radio kann mit drei AA -Batterien betrieben werden (nicht mitgeliefert). Um eine möglichst lange Spielzeit zu erreichen, sollten Alkalibatterien verwendet werden. Die Abdeckung des Batteriefachs abnehmen und die Batterien einsetzen. Dabei den Polaritätsdiagrammen folgen, die auf der Unterseite der Abdeckung abgebildet sind. Zum Abnehmen der Abdeckung des Batteriefachs beide Aussparungen mit der Bezeichnung ÖFFNEN drücken und die Abdeckung in Richtung der Unterseite des Radis ziehen. Das Radio einschalten, indem der Schalter STROMZUFUHRWAHL auf die Stellung BATTERIE gebracht wird. HINWEIS: Wenn ein Netzteil verwendet wird, werden die AA - Batterien automatisch abgeschaltet. 38 39
