Z Power Indicator Illuminates to indicate that the scanner is powered on. · Scan, Copy, Custom and Power saving buttons 1 The Rear View · ` · Power Adapter Receptacle The power adapter is plugged in here ` 4-Pin USB Connector. 2 Push buttons on the front panel The defining feature of the Astra 3400/AstraNET e-3420 is its push button functionality. You can scan an image to e-mail, perform OCR, or even use the scanner as a copy machine by pushing the buttons on the front panel of the scanner. The scanner has four push buttons on the front panel, from left to right: "Scan", "Copy", "Custom" and "Power saving". Scan ­ Push this button to start scanning the image on the scanner. Copy - Push this button to directly spool your image to the printer. Custom ­This button has three function: scanning OCR documents, scanning images to a fax machine or scanning images to an e-mail application. Power Saving ­ Push this button to turn off scanner lamp for saving power when the scanner is not used. Push it again to turn on the lamp. 3 Push button Configuring Before proceeding with the steps below, please finish the hardware and software installation first. Refer to Quick Start Guide. For Windows users Configuring the Scan button Values 1. Click on the VistaAccess icon in the Taskbar with the right mouse button. A pop -up menu as shown on the right appears. 2. Click the Push button Configuration option. The Push Button configuration window appears. 3. To Configure the Scanner button values. Select the image editing software you want to scan to when you press the Scan Push button, and the type of image you are scanning, the desired resolution, the scanning intensity level, the size of the original image by clicking on the arrow to the right in each field. 4. You could also click the check box " Intelligent Image Process Engine" in the "Push button Configuration" dialogue box to let the scanner do all the settings for you automatically. When you click the check box, all relevant fields will turn gray and the scanner does the correct Document Type, Resolution, Brightness, and scan Area settings, according to the item you want to scan. Moreover, even if the document on the scanner is skewed, the scanned image will be adjusted at the right angle by this feature. 5. Click the OK button to save the Scan Push Button configuration settings. These settings will be used whenever you press the Scan button on the front of the scanner. 4 6. Push the Scan button. The scanner will start the scanning process and scan the image to the specified image editing software. Note: If the application you want to scan is not shown in the Scan Destination drop-down list, click the Add button. The Add Application window opens. Enter the application name in the Application Name text box. Enter the path and the executable file name for the application you want to use in the File Location text box. If you are not sure of the path or the exact executable name, click on the Browse button to locate the appropriate file. Configuring the Copy button Values 1. Click the VistaAccess icon in the Task bar using your right mouse button. A pop up menu as shown on the right appears. 2. Click on the Push button Configuration option. The push button configuration window appears. 5 3. Click on the Copy icon to open the window that contains the variables you are adjusting. 4. Select the printer driver you want to use to print the copies, the type of image you are scanning, the desired resolution, a scanning intensity level, and the size of the scanned image, by clicking on the arrow to the right of each field. 5. Click the OK button to save the Copy push button configuration settings. These settings will be used whenever you press the Copy button on the front of the scanner. 6. Push the Copy button. The scanner will start scanning process and scan the image to specified printer software. Configuring the Custom buttons Values 1. Click on the VistaAccess icon in the Taskbar with your right mouse button. A pop -up menu as shown on the right appears. 2. Click the Push button Configuration option. The push button configuration 6 window appears. 3. Click the Custom icon to open the window that contains the variables you are adjusting. The Custom icon controls the values for the E-mail, Fax and OCR features. You must configure the variables for each function separately before the image is scanned to specified destination what you want. Note that you could configure all three features at one time, but only the last feature you configured is the destination the image will be scanned to. To configure the values for the e-mail function 1. Select the e-mail application you want to send the scanned image to, the type of image you are scanning, the desired resolution, a scanning intensity level and the document size of the scanned image, by clicking on the arrow to the right of each field. 2. Click the OK button to save the Custom push button configuration settings. button. The scanner will start the scanning 3. Push the Custom process and send the scanned image to the selected e-mail application. 7 To configure the values for the Fax function 1. Select the scanning intensity level and the document size for the scanned image, by clicking on the arrow to the right of each field. 2. Click the OK button to save the Custom push button configuration settings. 3. Push the Custom button. The scanner will start scanning process and transmit the scanned image to your fax machine. 8 To configure the values for the OCR function 1. Select the text editing application to use by clicking on the arrow to the right of each field. 2. Click the OK button to save the Custom push button configuration settings. 3. Push the Custom button. The scanner will start the scanning process and send the scanned image to the selected text application. Note: 1. You can also click on Check box of Intelligent Image Processing Engine to return the values in each field to default settings For more details on using the VistaAcess Utilities, please refer the on-line HTML files in the VistaScan CD. 2. 9 For iMac/iMac DV and New Power Mac G3/G4 users Configuring the Scan button Values 1.
