GETTING STARTED GETTING STARTED 7 Pre-Programmed Code Method 8 Basic Setup - Overview There are three ways to program the RF10: > The Pre-Programmed Code Method > The Pre-Programmed Auto-Search Method > The Learning Method The Pre-Programmed Code Method allows you to setup all the buttons at once, so it's the fastest and easiest of the three methods. The Auto-Search Method scans through all the codes in the RF10, one at a time. The Learning Method allows you to transfer functions from other remotes (old or new), one button at a time. Pre-Programmed Code Method Pre-Programmed Code Method STEP 1: The pre-programmed 3-digit codes are found in the back of this Manual on page 38. The codes are listed by Component category (i.e., TV, VCR, DVD, etc.), then by brand name. For instance, if you want to locate a code for a Sony TV, first locate the TV category, and then look for the Sony brand. Once you have located the 3-digit code (or in some cases, several code numbers) for the Component that you want to operate with your RF10, write them ALL down on a piece of note paper. It's important that you write down all the codes because only one code is going to work for you. STEP 2: Now, turn on the Component you want to program... let's say your TV to start. Look up your TV's manufacturer setup code from your reference list. STEP 3: Press and hold the COMPONENT button (in this case TV) and SELECT button at the same time for approximately 3 seconds. The LCD screen will display "SET" signaling that you are now in Setup mode and ready to program your TV. IMPORTANT:You now have 30 seconds to perform the next step while you are in SETUP mode. If you don't press a button within 30 seconds, SET will disappear from the screen, signaling that you have exited setup mode and you will need to start over. COMPONENT BUTTON SELECT BUTTON BASIC SETUP BASIC SETUP 9 Pre-Programmed Code Method 10 Pre-Programmed Code Method STEP 4: Point the RF10 toward the Component you want to program, (in this example, TV), and punch in the 3-digit code that you wrote down for that specific Component. Use the Number buttons 0-9 on the remote to punch in the code. If the 3-digit code number that you just punched in is correct, the Component will turn off. If the Component does not turn off, continue entering code numbers from your list until the Component turns off. Some brands have several possible code numbers. CODE DISPLAY ON BUTTON VOLUME BUTTON STOP BUTTON PLAY BUTTON STEP 5: When the Component turns off, press the ON button to turn the Component back on. Now you can test the Volume and Channel buttons (for TV), or PLAY and STOP (for VCR and DVD) to make sure they all work. If any of the buttons do not work properly, you need to find a new correct code. For example, maybe your Sony TV turned off with code number 147, but the volume controls did not work properly. If this is the case, try the next code number listed for that Component until you find a perfect match. NOTE: If the Component fails to turn off after you have entered all the code numbers listed for your brand, you can use either the Auto-Search Method on Page 11 or the Learning Method on Page 13. STEP 6: Once you have found the right code, save the code number by pressing the Component button you just programmed (in this case TV) one more time. The LCD screen will blink "SAVED" two times, signaling that the code number has been successfully saved, and then return to normal operating mode (in this case TV). BASIC SETUP BASIC SETUP NOW, PROGRAM THE REST OF YOUR COMPONENTS BY REPEATING STEPS 2 THROUGH 6. IN MOST SYSTEMS, YOU CAN FINISH BASIC SETUP IN JUST A FEW MINUTES AND PUT ALL YOUR OLD REMOTES AWAY. 11 Pre-Programmed Auto-Search Method 12 Pre-Programmed Auto-Search Method Pre-Programmed Auto-Search Method The Auto-Search Method is a way you can scan through other codes in the table to find the right code for your component. STEP 1: Turn on the Component you want to program... let's say your TV to start. STEP 3: Press the UP ARROW Cursor button once. Each time the UP ARROW button is pressed, the code will count up one code number and send a POWER OFF signal. When the correct code is sent out, the component will turn off. STEP 2: Press and hold both the COMPONENT (in this case TV) and SELECT buttons for approximately three seconds. The LCD screen will display "SET" signaling that you are now in Setup mode and ready to program your TV. IMPORTANT:You now have 30 seconds to perform the next step while you are in SETUP mode. If you don't press a button within 30 seconds, SET will disappear from the screen, signaling that you have exited setup mode and you will need to start over. sure they all work. If any of the buttons do not work properly, you need to find a new correct code. So, continue pressing the UP ARROW button until you find a code that makes the VOLUME and PLAY buttons work properly. STEP 5: Once you have found the right code, save the code number by pressing the Component button you just programmed (in this case TV) one more time. The LCD screen will blink "SAVED" two times, signaling that the code number has been successfully saved, and then return to normal operating mode. NOTE: If you can't find the right code after trying the UP ARROW button for 5 minutes, please try the Learning Method on Page 13. It will then change to "READY". If the "GOOD" label appears on top of the display, you were successful.
