It is important that you have your serial number written down before you install the 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch. You can find your serial number on the bottom label of the 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch and on the side of the package. If you ever need to call our Technical Support department, you will need this number to receive assistance. Step 1. Connect the power supply Step 2. Connect your 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch to your Ethernet-ready device 2 Congratulations! The installation of your U.S.Robotics 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch is complete. As connections are established with the 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch, the corresponding LED lights will turn on. Repeat this step as needed for up to seven additional devices. This is one of many possible configurations. Note: For networking information, refer to your operating system's documentation. Register your product online at http://www.usr.com/productreg 3 Troubleshooting My 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch is properly connected to my Ethernet-ready device, but I still can't establish a connection. Possible Solution: Verify you are using a known and reliable RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. An old or unreliable RJ45 Category Ethernet cable could disrupt your connection. It may be necessary to replace your RJ45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. Possible Solution: Check the LED status lights on your 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch. A flashing yellow light indicates you are receiving and transmitting data at 10 Mbps. A flashing green light indicates you are receiving and transmitting data at 100 Mbps. If you don't see any LEDs lighted or blinking, it may be necessary to replace your RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. Possible Solution: The length of your Ethernet cable between your 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch and your workstation or computer should not exceed 328 feet. Some power sources with strong electromagnetic fields may be causing interference. Possible Solution: It may be necessary to reconfigure the network settings of your operating system. Refer to your operating system's documentation regarding network configuration specifics. My 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch is properly connected to my Ethernet-ready device but my connection speed is slow. Possible Solution: Verify that your network adapter and/or additional Ethernet-ready device supports 100 Mbps. You may be using a 10 Mbps device. To achieve 100 Mbps speeds, replace any 10 Mbps devices you are using with 100 Mbps devices. Possible Solution: Check the LED status lights on your 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch. A flashing yellow light indicates you are receiving and transmitting data at 10 Mbps. A flashing green light indicates you are receiving and transmitting data at 100 Mbps. If you only see blinking LEDs, it may be necessary to replace your RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. 4 Possible Solution: Verify you are using a known and reliable RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. An old or unreliable RJ45 Category Ethernet cable could diminish your link quality. It may be necessary to replace your RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. Possible Solution: The length of your Ethernet cable between your 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch and your workstation or computer should not exceed 328 feet. Some power sources with strong electromagnetic fields may be causing interference. What kind of cables should I use? Possible Solution: The 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch may be used with an RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. Where is the uplink port? Possible Solution: Each port may be used as an uplink port since each supports auto-crossover. This means that each port on the 8-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch automatically allows for connecting additional hubs, switches, or routers with an RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable.
