Please note that it is illegal in certain countries to watch or operate the television whilst driving. A A 7 English OPERATION What can the TV 5100 do? Functions The TV 5100 tuner performs the following functions: · Automatic station search/storage (A.search) as well manual storing/erasing options · Automatic switching between up to 4 antennas for optimal reception · Provision is made for connecting a reversing camera; tuner then automatically switches to the camera whenever reverse gear is engaged · AV input permits connection of additional video /audio source (games console, video recorder, DVD player, camera) · AV output for e.g. connecting to car radio (to output television sound) · Can easily be connected to the MS 5000 navigation system (without MI 5000 multimedia interface) via MA 1210 Y-cable (accessory) · OSD (On Screen Display) · MUTE key silences sound 1 For road safety, the TV 5100 features a locking function which blanks the screen whenever the vehicle is in motion. The image only appears when the vehicle is standing and the handbrake is engaged. Range of applications The TV 5100 TV tuner can either be connected via an MI 5000 media interface box or wired directly to the MS 5000 VDO Dayton navigation system between the monitor and a PC 5000 computer. The screen remains dark when the TV tuner is switched off. 1 The "Multimediabox" option in the "Video configuration" list of the "System Settings" menu should be activated. Check setting if necessary. To make the TV image visible, the TV tuner must now be switched on. Switching the TV tuner on/off With the ignition switched on, the TV tuner can be switched on or off by pressing the POWER key. Tuner is automatically switched off when handbrake is released For your personal safety, the TV image is displayed only when the vehicle is stationary, i.e. with the handbrake engaged. When the handbrake is released, the TV image is switched off and the instruction "SCREEN OFF FOR YOUR SAFETY" is briefly displayed. Searching and storing stations Receivable TV stations can be stored in the station memory both automatically and manually. The stored stations can then be called up sequentially by pressing the CH+ or CH- keys. Automatic storage Stations which are clearly receivable at the user's current location are recorded in the station memory as follows: 1. Press A.search key. The station search is started. Strong stations are stored in sequence. During this procedure, "A.search" appears on the screen. The search process is made visible by the running sequence of channel numbers (upper right-hand corner of the screen). The stations have now been stored in the station memory. The last selected station setting is once more displayed on the screen. 1 The channel number is displayed briefly . 9 English OPERATION Manual station selection/storage The automatic storage process may possibly ignore faintly or poorly received stations. However, should you wish to view/store such a station despite the poor reception: 1. Use the numeric keys of the remote control to enter the channel number of the relevant station. The image transmitted by the desired station is displayed. To store the station currently being viewed : 2. Press the SAVE key. "Erase CH" (erase channel) appears on the screen. 3. Press the << or >> keys to switch over to the "Memory CH" (store channel) function. 4. Now press the SELECT key. The station is now included in the station memory. 1 If no keys are pressed, the screen switches back to the TV display mode after about 4 seconds. Erasing stations from memory If you wish to erase a stored station (e.g. because it is already available on several other channels), proceed as follows: 1. Press the SAVE key. "Erase CH" (erase channel) appears on the screen. 2. Now press the SELECT key. The station will now be erased from the station memory. Selecting stations Use the CH+ or CH- keys to switch over to the next station with a higher or lower channel number in the station memory. 1 Stations which have not been stored can be selected by using the numeric keys of the remote control to enter the relevant channel number. Mute function The TV sound is muted by pressing the MUTE key. The muting is reversed by pressing the MUTE key once more. Volume Control Volume control is performed on the MM 5000 monitor or on any appliances (e.g. car radio or headphone amplifier) which may be connected to the AV output. See also "TV sound output via the car radio" on page 12. 10 OPERATION Options for connecting video-/audio sources Additional audio-/video sources, with or without MI 5000 multimedia interface box, have varying configurations which require different connection procedures see installation instructions. Connection to PC 5000 (without interface box) When the TV tuner is connected to the MS 5000 system without an MI 5000 multimedia interface box, additional audio/video sources must be connected to the TV tuner. The following equipment can be connected: · a camera (reversing camera, see "RV 5100 reversing camera / RV 5100 (PAL/50Hz)" on page 21) to the "CAMERA INPUT" socket · a PAL video or audio source (VCR, DVD, games console etc.) to the AV input ("A/V INPUT") The TV/CA/AV key of the TV remote control can be used to switch between the various sources (see also "Switching between sources (TV/CA/AV)" on page 12). 1 If a correctly installed reversing camera is installed, the switchover to the camera image is performed automatically when the reverse gear is engaged. Connecting tuners using a MI 5000 multimedia interface box The preferred method is to connect the TV tuner to the AV input 1 of the MI 5000 multimedia interface box. This mode allows an automatic switchover to the TV image when the TV tuner is switched on. For switching between the sources connected to the interface box, the remote control of the navigation system should be operated as follows: 1. Where necessary, select "TV/Video" in the start menu of the navigation system and confirm with the OK key. 2. The video source can be selected by repeatedly pressing either the REP or the key. 1 A reversing camera is linked to a previously installed MI 5000 multimedia interface box by connecting it to the appropriate connection socket of the CONTROL cable of the box. This will ensure that the switchover to the camera image which follows any shift into reverse gear will remain effective while the navigation system is in operation. For this purpose, the reversing signal from the gearbox must be correctly connected to the interface box (see MI 5000 installation instructions). For further details about operating procedu ...
