Save the original box and all packing material for future shipping needs. NOTE: The word "Windows" in this user guide refers to the following Microsoft operating systems: Windows `95, Windows NT, Windows `98, Windows 2000, Windows Me (Millennium), and Windows XP. Package Contents Your LCD display package includes: · LCD display · Power cord · Video cable · ViewSonicWizard CD-ROM · Perfect Portrait software CD-ROM TM NOTE: The CD jacket contains the Quick Start Guide, and the CD includes the User Guide PDF files and INF/ICM display optimization files. The INF file ensures compatibility with Windows operating systems, and the ICM file (Image Color Matching) ensures accurate on-screen colors. ViewSonic recommends that you install both files. Precautions · Sit at least 18" from your LCD display. · Avoid touching the screen. Skin oils are difficult to remove. · Never remove the rear cover. Your LCD display contains high-voltage parts. You may be seriously injured if you touch them. · Avoid exposing your LCD display to direct sunlight or another heat source. Orient your LCD display away from direct sunlight to reduce glare. · Always handle your LCD display with care when moving it. · Place your LCD display in a wellventilated area. Do not place anything on your LCD display that prevents heat dissipation. · Ensure the area around the LCD display is clean and free of moisture. · Do not place heavy objects on the LCD display, video cable, or power cord. · If smoke, abnormal noise, or strange odor is present, immediately switch the LCD display off and call your dealer or ViewSonic. It is dangerous to continue using the LCD display. ViewSonic VP912b/VP912s 3 Quick Installation 1 Connect power cord and AC/DC adapter 2 Connect video cable · Make sure both the LCD display and computer are turned OFF · Remove rear panel covers if necessary · Connect the video cable from the LCD display to the computer Macintosh users: Models older than G3 require a Macintosh adapter. Attach the adapter to the computer and plug the video cable into the adapter. To order a ViewSonic® Macintosh adapter, contact ViewSonic Customer Support. 4 Wizard CD (continued) (1) Wait for the CD-ROM to auto-start. NOTE: If the CD-ROM does not auto-start: double-click on the CD-ROM icon in the Windows Explorer, then double-click on viewsonic.exe. (2) Follow the on-screen instructions. 5 Windows users: Set the timing mode (resolution and refresh rate) Example: 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz. For instructions on changing the resolution and refresh rate, see the graphic card's user guide. Installation is complete. Enjoy your new ViewSonic, LCD display. The ViewSonic Wizard CD-ROM also provides an opportunity for you to print the registration form which you may mail or fax to ViewSonic. 3 Turn ON LCD Display and computer Turn ON the LCD display, then turn ON the computer. This sequence (LCD display before computer) is important. NOTE: Windows users may receive a message asking them to install the INF file. This is on the CD. 4 Insert the ViewSonic Wizard CD into the computer's CD drive. Follow the on-screen instructions. If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, see "Customer Support." Follow the instructions that accompany the Perfect Portrait software. Note: Before using the portrait display mode, first install the Perfect PortraitTM software included with your LCD display. Perfect Portrait software is compatible with most PCI and AGP graphics (video) cards. For information about compatible graphics cards and approved hardware configurations, go to the ViewSonic website, http:// www.viewsonic.com Landscape Portrait To switch from Landscape (default) to Portrait mode, do the following: 1 2 3 From the front, gently raise the LCD display to allow more clearance. Pull the bottom of the LCD display outward and away from the base. Manually rotate the LCD display clockwise 90 degrees as shown above. To Raise and Lower the display You can easily raise and lower the display panel (the head) manually. As you face the front of the display, take hold of each side of the head and pull up or down. The panel should move easily. ViewSonic VP912b/VP912s 5 Installation of Wall Mount (Optional) To obtain a wall-mounting kit, contact ViewSonic or your local dealer. Refer to the instructions that come with the base mounting kit. To convert your LCD display from a desk-mounted to a wall-mounted display, do the following: 1 2 3 4 Remove four screws 5 6 Disconnect Power. Lay the LCD display face down on a towel or blanket. Pull the back plate away from the head of the LCD display. Let the plate hang on the neck of the LCD display as shown on the left. Notice the four screws. Remove the four screws from the back plate. Attach the mounting bracket from the VESA compatible wallmounting kit (100 mm x 100 mm distance). Attach the LCD display to the wall, following the instructions in the wall-mounting kit. ViewSonic VP912b/VP912s 6 Using the LCD Display Setting the Timing Mode Setting the timing mode is important for maximizing the quality of the screen image and minimizing eye strain. The timing mode consists of the resolution (example 1280 x 1024) and refresh rate (or vertical frequency; example 75 Hz). After setting the timing mode, use the OnView ® controls to adjust the screen image. For the best picture quality set your LCD display timing mode to: VESA 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz. To set the Timing Mode: 1 Set the resolution: Right-click on the Windows desktop > Properties > Settings > set the resolution. 2 Set the refresh rate: See your graphic card's user guide for instructions. WARNING: Do not set the graphics card in your computer to exceed the maximum refresh rate of 75Hz; doing so may result in permanent damage to your LCD display . OSD and Power Lock Settings · OSD Lock: Press and hold [1] and the up arrow for 10 seconds. If any buttons are pressed the message OSD Locked will display for 5 seconds. · OSD Unlock: Press and hold [1] and the up arrow again for 10 seconds. · Power Button Lock: Press and hold [1] and the down arrow for 10 seconds. If the power button is pressed the message Power Button Locked will display for 5 seconds. With or without this setting, after a power failure, your LCD display's power will automatically turn ON when power is restored. Power Button Unlock: Press and hold [1] and the down arrow again for 10 seconds. ViewSonic VP912b/VP912s 7 Adjusting the Screen Image Use the buttons on the front control panel to display and adjust the OnView® controls which display on the screen. The OnView controls are explained at the top of the next page and are defined in "Main Menu Controls" on page 9. Main Menu with OnView controls Front Control Panel shown below in detail Scrolls through menu options and adjusts the displayed control. Also a shortcut to display the Contrast adjustment control screen. Displays the control screen for the highlighted control. Also toggles between two controls on some screens. Displays the Main Menu or exits the control screen and saves adjustments. Also a shortcut to toggle analog and digital connection. Power light Green = ON Orange = Power Saving Power On/Off ViewSonic VP912b/VP912s 8 Do the following to adjust the screen image: 1 To display the Main Menu, press button [1]. NOTE: All OnView menus and adjustment screens disappear automatically after about 15 seconds. This is adjustable through the OSD timeout setting in the setup menu. 2 3 To select a control you want to adjust, press or to scroll up or down the Main Menu. After the control is selected, press button [2]. A control screen like the one shown below appears. The command line at the bottom of the control screen tells what to do next from this screen. You can toggle between control screens, adjust the selected option, or exit the screen. 4 5 To adjust the control, press the up or down buttons. To save the adjustments and exit the menu, press button [1] twice. The following tips may help you optimize your display: · Adjust your computer's graphic card so that it outputs a video signal 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz to the LCD display. (Look for instructions on "changing the refresh rate" in your graphic card's user guide.) · If necessary, make small adjustments using H POSITION and V POSITION until the screen image is completely visible.
