Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are recommended.
To maximize performance and lifetime, we recommend that
you fully charge the batteries and discharge them for at least one complete cycle before use. Avoid using batteries in extremely cold environments as low temperatures can shorten the battery life and reduce digital camera performance. Low temperature will adversely affect alkaline battery performance.
Using new rechargeable batteries or rechargeable batteries that have not been used for an extended period of time will affect the number of images that can be captured. If you will not be using the batteries for an extended period of time, remove them from the camera to prevent leakage or corrosion. Never use batteries of different types (together) or mix old and new batteries. Never use manganese batteries.

1.4 Memory Cards
The Vivicam 2005 includes approximately 14 MB of "built-in" internal storage memory. You may wish to expand the memory capacity of your camera using a Secure Digital (SD) memory card. Note: The Vivicam 2005, like most digital cameras will automatically use a memory card if it is inserted into the memory card slot. When there is no memory card present in the camera, your images and video clips (and files transferred to the camera through USB cable) are stored in the internal memory. When a memory card is present in the camera, the camera will immediately begin to use the card in preference to the internal memory. This is called "card preference". Data stored in internal memory will not be accessible if a memory card is present. To again access your data stored in internal memory, simply remove the SD memory card.

2. Preparation For Use
2.1 Loading batteries
1. Open the battery cover as shown in Figure 3.
2. As indicated inside the battery cover ("+/-"), load three AAA batteries into the compartment with the polarity (orientation) as shown in Figure 4.
Note: Typically, the V2005 will come with alkaline batteries. Whereas alkaline batteries will operate the camera, Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries are highly recommended because they offer superior performance. Rechargeable NiMH batteries are both cost effective and reusable. To maximize performance and lifetime, it is recommended that you fully charge the batteries and discharge them for at least one complete cycle before use.

3. Camera Operations
3.1 Capturing Images and Video Clips
The Vivicam 2005 features three ways to capture images 1) Single Shot mode. Single-shot mode is the most common mode used for capturing individual still images. Single shot is also the default mode for the V2005. Whenever the camera is turned on, it will be in single-shot mode. 2) Video mode. Capture short video clips. Note that after each video captured, the camera will revert to single-shot mode. 3) Continuous (burst) Mode. Burst mode allows you to capture a sequence of four images in succession. The V2005 will capture one frame (every 1.2 seconds) up to four frames. Note that after each burst capture, the camera will revert to single-shot mode.
The Vivicam 2005 features an integral four-mode flash that can be used in single-shot mode. The flash is not available in burst or video modes. The four flash modes are: automatic, automatic with red-eye reduction, off, and on (also known as fill-flash.) Hint: for faster camera operation and increased battery life set the flash to OFF if you will not be using it.
3.2 Setup Menu
(Also see section 4.4 for additional detail)
1) White balance: Auto, Sunny, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Tungsten 2) Exposure mode: Automatic, with manual exposure compensation Exposure compensation range: +/ 1.5 eV

5. Windows 98 Mass Storage Driver Installation
Windows 98 users will need to install a software "driver" before connecting their Vivicam 2005 to their computer. It is important that Windows 98 users first install the driver from the CD ROM before connecting the camera to their PC. Insert the product CD ROM and follow the on screen instructions to install the driver for Win 98. Once the driver is installed you may transfer images to your PC as outlined in the next section. Windows ME, 2000, and XP as well as Mac OSX users do not need a driver. In fact, Win Me/200/XP users should not install the Win 98 driver. Simply connect the Vivicam 2005 camera to your PC or Mac and wait momentarily for the computer to initialize and recognize the camera as a USB removable disk.
6. Transferring Images to your Computer
Downloading your images to your computer is easy. Step 1: Connecting the Camera to Your Computer 1. Connect one end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Windows Open the "removable disk" and subsequent folders by double clicking on them. Double click on the folder. Your images are inside these folder(s). Select the images that you want, and then choose "Copy" from the "Edit" menu. Open the destination location (folder) and choose "Paste" from the "Edit" menu. You may also drag and drop image files from the camera to a desired location. Macintosh and Desktop/LX Open the "unlabeled" disk icon, and the destination location on your hard disk. Drag and drop from the camera to the desired destination. Note: Memory card users may prefer to use a memory card reader (highly recommended). Memory card readers are fast, simple, and self-powered.
