In Canada, go to www.vtechcanada. com or call 1 (800) 267-7377. · Remove battery compartment cover by pressng on the ndentaton and sldng t downwards. · Algn the two holes n the plug wth the socket pns accordng to the color-coded label n the battery compartment, then snap the plug nto place. · Place the battery nto the compartment. · Poston the battery compartment cover and slde t upwards untl t clcks nto place. · Put the handset n the telephone base or the charger to charge the new battery for at least 16 hours. You can keep the battery charged by returnng the handset to the telephone base or charger after each use. When the battery power s fully depleted, a full recharge takes about 16 hours. Choose a locaton away from any electronc equpment and applances such as personal computers, computer routers, televson sets, mcrowave ovens, and refrgerators. Plug the power adapter nto an electrcal outlet not controlled by a wall swtch. · Use only the VTech batteres and power adapters (or equvalent) suppled wth ths telephone. Basic operation www.vtechphones.com 3 Installation Desk/table bracket installation The telephone base comes wth the desk/table bracket nstalled and ready for tabletop use. To remove the bracket: 1. Push the bracket away from the telephone base as shown below. Do not remove the bracket by force to avod breakage of the tabs. To nstall the bracket: 1. Algn the tabs of the bracket wth the slots at the bottom of the telephone base as shown n the dagram. 2. Slde the bracket towards the center of the telephone base untl t clcks nto place. Dial type If you have touch-tone servce, your telephone s ready to use as soon as the battery s charged. If you have pulse (rotary) servce, the dal type must be changed. To change the dal type, see Dial type on page 12. 4 www.vtechphones.com Installation Installation If you subscribe to DSL service If you receve hgh speed nternet through your telephone lne (commonly referred to as DSL), and you are experencng nterference durng telephone conversatons and/or your caller ID features are not functioning properly, install a DSL filter to the telephone line between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack. Contact your DSL provider for a DSL filter. You can adjust the rnger volume by pressng VoL+ /VoL- on the telephone base when the telephone s rngng. · The handset wll not rng when the rnger volume s at the lowest settng. It does not delete your vocemal message(s). Use ths feature when the telephone ndcates there s vocemal when you have none or you have accessed your vocemal from a remote locaton (whle away from home). If there s actually a new vocemal message, your local telephone company wll contnue to send a sgnal whch wll cause the NEw VoICEMaIL message n the handset and the telephone base VoICEMaIL lght to flash. The dal type s preset to touch tone. If you have pulse (rotary) servce, the dal type must be changed. · Press MENU/SELECT to dsplay menu when n dle mode. · Press or to reach SETUP BS. Temporary tone dialing If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you can change from pulse to touch tone dalng durng a call by pressng * ToNE. Ths s useful f you need to send touch tone sgnals for access to telephone bankng or long dstance servces. · Press /FLaSH. · Press * ToNE. Call waiting If you subscrbe to call watng servce and you are on a call when a new call comes n, you wll hear a beep. The caller ID nformaton wll be dsplayed f you subscrbe to caller ID servce from your local telephone company. · Press /FLaSH on the handset to answer the ncomng call and put the current call on hold. · Press /FLaSH at anytme to alternate between calls. The screen of the orgnatng handset dsplays CaLLINg HaNDSET X. · The destnaton handset rngs and ts screen dsplays CaLLINg FroM: HaNDSET X. · Press /FLaSH, or any dalng keys (0-9, * or #) on the destnaton cAllING handset to answer the call. HANdSet X · To end an ntercom call, press oFF/CLEar on the handset or by placng the handset back on the telephone base or charger. · For 6042/6043, press INT to drectly call the other handset. It s not necessary to press any number key. Basic operation Multiple handset use cAllING froM: HANdSet X Whle on a call, the person on the other handset can jon the conversaton. · Press /FLaSH or to jon the conversaton. (Only two handsets can jon the conference conversaton at the same tme.) · Press oFF/CLEar, or place the handset n the telephone base or charger to drop out of the call. An external call can be forwarded to another handset durng a conversaton. · Press INT and put the call on hold on the orgnatng handset. · Use the keypad to select the destnaton handset and the screen dsplays CaLLINg HaNDSET X. (For 6052/6053 only) · The destnaton handset rngs and ts screen dsplays CaLLINg FroM: HaNDSET X. · After the destnaton handset s answered, press MENU/SELECT and then press or to reach CoNFErENCE. · Press MENU/SELECT to let the destnaton handset jon the conversaton. · Press MENU/SELECT and the screen dsplays END CoNFErENCE and then press MENU/SELECT to return to the ntercom conversaton. · Durng the ntercom conversaton, press MENU/SELECT and use or to reach oTHEr CaLL to return to the external call and put the ntercom on hold.
