The prongs are not desgned to hold the plug n place f t s plugged nto a celng or an under-the-table/ cabnet outlet. Install the telephone base as shown below. Make sure that the electrcal outlet s not controlled by a wall swtch. Also, f you receve hgh speed nternet through your telephone lne (commonly referred to as DSL), you may need to nstall a DSL filter to the telephone line between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack. Contact your DSL service provider for more information about DSL filters. The battery may have enough charge for short calls. For best performance, charge the battery for at least 16 hours before use. When the battery power s low, the handset wll beep, BATTERY LOW and wll be dsplayed on the handset screen. When fully the battery low ndcator charged, the handset battery provdes approxmately three and a half hours of talk tme or three and a half days of standby tme. 1. Insert the plug of the battery as ndcated. Make sure t s plugged securely and matches the color-coded label nsde the battery compartment. 2. Place the battery wth the label THIS SIDE UP facng up and the wres nsde the battery compartment. 3. Align the battery compartment cover flat against the battery compartment, then slde t upwards untl t clcks nto place. 4. If you prefer to mount your telephone on the wall (optonal), t s desgned to mount on a standard telephone wall plate. You can mount the telephone base on the wall by postonng t so the mountng studs will fit into the corresponding holes on the telephone base. CHAN/DELETE · Swtch to a clearer channel whle on a call. · Press and hold to delete all records n the call log when n dle mode. · When revewng the call log or redal lst, press to delete the dsplayed record. /VOL+/ · Press to dsplay the drectory when the telephone s not n use. · Press and hold to adjust the rnger volume when the telephone s not n use. · Durng a call, press to ncrease the lstenng volume. If you do not have caller ID servce, you can set the date and tme manually. 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl DATE/TIME s dsplayed. Press SELECT. 3. When the hour is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct hour and then press SELECT. 4. When the minute is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct mnute and then press SELECT. 5. When AM or PM is flashing, press or to choose AM or PM and then press SELECT. 6. When the month is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct month and then press SELECT. 7. When the date is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct date and then press SELECT. 8. You will hear a confirmation tone. · In the event of a power falure, the tme may need to be reset. You can select from the dfferent rngers. 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays RINGER: and the current settng. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes, and you will hear a sample of the rnger. 4. Press or to select RINGER: 1, 2, 3 or 4. You wll hear a sample of each rnger. 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. Ringer volume You can change the rnger volume to a comfortable level or turn the rnger off. 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. Press or untl the screen dsplays RINGER VOL: and the current settng. -ORPress and hold or untl the screen dsplays RINGER VOL: and the current settng when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes, and you will hear a sample of the rnger volume. 3. Press or to select rnger volume from OFF, LOW or HI. You wll hear a sample of the selected volume level. 4. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. 8 www.vtechphones.com Telephone settings Dial mode If you have touch tone servce, the telephone s ready for use as soon as the battery s charged. If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you wll need to change the dal mode. 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays DIAL MODE: and the current settng. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes. 4. Press or to select TONE or PULSE. 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. · If, n the future, your phone servce provder requres you to dal the area code when makng a local call, or you want to cancel the home area code you have already programmed, reprogram your home area code to 000. Basic operation Telephone settings Home area code If you dal your local calls usng only seven dgts (no area code requred), program your home area code followng the steps below. By programmng your home area code, caller ID wll dsplay only the phone number wthout area code when you receve calls from callers n your local area. 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays HOME AREA CODE. 3. Press SELECT. The stored area code is displayed with the first digit flashing. 4. Use the dal key pad to enter the desred home area code. 5. Press SELECT to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone. www.vtechphones.com 9 Telephone settings Language · The clear vocemal feature only removes the dsplay NEW VOICEMAIL on the handset. It does not delete your vocemal message(s). 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl LANGUAGE s dsplayed. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes. 4. Press or untl the screen dsplays the desred language (ENGLISH, ESPANOL or FRANCAIS). 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. 10 If you subscrbe to vocemal servces provded by your telephone company, NEW VOICEMAIL wll be dsplayed on the handset when you have new vocemal messages. Please contact your local telephone company for more nformaton about vocemal servce. After revewng all new messages, the NEW VOICEMAIL ndcator wll be turned off. However, f the ndcator remans on after you have lstened to all new vocemal messages, follow these steps to manually turn off the ndcator: 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays CLR VOICEMAIL, then press SELECT. - OR Press #. 3. The screen dsplays CLEAR? and the current setting flashes. 4. Press or to select YES. 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. The caller ID nformaton wll be dsplayed f you subscrbe to combned caller ID wth call watng servce from your local telephone company. /FLASH on the handset to put the current call on hold and answer · Press the ncomng call. · Press /FLASH at anytme to alternate between calls. Temporary tone dialing If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you can change from pulse to touch tone dalng durng a call by pressng TONE*. Ths s useful f you need to send touch tone sgnals to access telephone bankng or long dstance servces. Once you have ntated your call by dalng the phone number n pulse (rotary), press TONE*. Now, all subsequent key presses wll be sent as touch tone sgnals. After you hang up, the phone wll return to pulse (rotary) dalng for the next call. 12 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation Redial · The telephone stores the five most recently dialed telephone numbers on the redal lst. When the lst s full, the oldest entry s deleted to make room for the new entry. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly to revew the redal lst. Press CHAN/DELETE to delete the dsplayed number. · Press /FLASH, then press REDIAL/PAUSE to dal the last telephone number daled. -ORPress REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly untl the desred entry dsplays, then press /FLASH to dal the number. The handset wll rng and **PAGING** wll be dsplayed on ts screen. · Press FIND HANDSET agan or put the handset back n the telephone base to stop the pagng tone. -ORPress OFF on the handset. Each entry may consst of a number up to 24 dgts and a name up to 14 characters. 1. Press PROG when n dle mode. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER NAME. 3. Use the dal pad keys to enter the name. See the Character chart on page 15. · Press to backspace and erase. · Press to advance. 4. When finished, press SELECT or PROG. The screen dsplays ENTER NUMBER. 5. Use the dal pad keys to enter the telephone number. · Press to backspace and erase. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE to nsert a dalng pause (P wll be dsplayed). 6. Press SELECT or PROG. The screen dsplays DISTINCT RING? and the current settng. 7. Press or to choose Y (yes) f you wsh to customze ths entry or choose N (no) for a normal rnger. If you choose Y, a wll be dsplayed wth the drectory entry. 8. An error tone wll sound f you try to enter more than 14 characters. The screen dsplays the name and number. The cursor appears at the end of the name. · Use the dal pad keys to edt the name. · Press to backspace and erase. · Press to advance. 5. Press SELECT to move on to the phone number. · Use the dal pad keys to edt the number. · Press to backspace and erase. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE to nsert a dalng pause (P wll be dsplayed). 6. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays DISTINCT RING? and the current settng. 7. Press or to choose Y (yes) f you wsh to customze ths entry, or choose N (no) for a normal rnger. The screen dsplays ERASE NO YES and the number. The current choice flashes. 5. Press untl YES flashes. 6. Press SELECT. You will hear a confirmation beep. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the entry you want to copy. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press SPEED EDIT DEL 8005959511 SELECT. Then press or untl SPEED flashes. 4. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER 1-9. 5. Press a key (1-9) to copy ths entry from the drectory to the speed dal memory and assgn the memory locaton. You wll hear a confirmation beep. A memory location number (01 through 09) wll be dsplayed wth ths entry. Dial a number from the directory 1. Press /VOL+/ when n dle mode. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the desired entry. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press /FLASH. 18 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation Speed dial Your telephone can store up to nne telephone numbers wth names (up to 14 characters and 24 dgts n each locaton) n desgnated speed dal memory locatons. · The entres stored n the speed dal memory wll be numbered 01 through 09 and share the memory n the drectory. · Press OFF at any tme to ext speed dal mode. · If the locaton s not empty, the new entry wll replace the old entry and the old entry wll be moved to a drectory locaton. Store a speed dial entry Basic operation Telephone operation 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode and then press or untl the screen dsplays SPEED DIAL. 2. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER 1-9. 3. Press a key (1 through 9) to assgn the speed dal locaton where ths number wll be stored. The screen dsplays ENTER NAME. 4. Use the dal pad keys to enter the name (see the Character chart on page 15) and then press SELECT or PROG . · Press to backspace and erase. · Press to advance. 5. The screen dsplays ENTER NUMBER. 6. Use the dal pad keys to enter the telephone number, and then press SELECT or PROG. · Press to backspace and erase. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE to nsert a dalng pause (P wll be dsplayed). 7. You will hear a confirmation beep. 22 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation About caller ID The caller ID wth call watng feature n ths telephone lets you see the name and telephone number of the caller before answerng the call, even whle you are on a call. These features requre servces provded by your local telephone company. Contact your telephone company f: · you have both caller ID and call watng, but as separate servces (you may need combned servce), · you have only caller ID servce, or only call watng servce, or · you do not subscrbe to any caller ID or call watng servces but wsh to try them.
