The prongs are not desgned to hold the plug n place f t s plugged nto a celng or an under-the-table/ cabnet outlet. Install the telephone base and charger as shown below. Make sure that the electrcal outlet s not controlled by a wall swtch. If you subscrbe to hgh-speed Internet servce (Dgtal Subscrber Lne - DSL) through your telephone lnes, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack. The filter will prevent noise and caller ID problems caused by DSL nterference. Please contact your DSL servce provder for more nformaton about DSL filters. The battery may have enough charge for short calls. For best performance, charge the battery for at least 16 hours before use. When the battery power s low, LOW BATTERY wll be dsplayed and wll flash on the handset screen. When fully charged, the handset battery provides approximately five hours of talk time or six days of standby time. 1. Insert the plug of the battery as ndcated. Make sure t s plugged securely and matches the color-coded label nsde the battery compartment. 2. Place the battery wth the label THIS SIDE UP facng up and the wres nsde the battery compartment. 3. Align the battery compartment cover flat against the battery compartment, then slde t upwards untl t clcks nto place. 4. Charge the handset by placng t n the telephone base or charger. Basic operation www.vtechphones.com 3 Getting started Mounting bracket installation Your telephone base comes wth the mountng bracket nstalled, ready for desktop use. You may also mount your telephone onto a standard telephone wall plate. Wall mounting bracket installation: To prepare the telephone base for wall mountng, you wll need to remove the bracket f t s currently attached for desktop use. Press on the tabs located on the legs of the bracket to loosen, then lft the bracket up and away from the telephone base. 1. Frst, nsert the lower porton tabs of the mountng bracket nto the lower grooves n the telephone base, then snap the upper porton tabs of the mountng bracket nto place. 2. Mount the telephone base on the wall by postonng it so the mounting studs will fit into the holes on the telephone base and mountng bracket. Slde the telephone base down on the mountng studs untl t locks nto place. 3. If you have repostoned the bracket for wall mountng and now want to return to desktop use, follow these steps: 1. Insert the lower porton tabs of the mountng bracket nto the upper grooves of the telephone base. 2. Snap the upper porton tabs of the bracket nto place. 3. To remove the bracket, press both upper portion tabs firmly inward and pull the bracket upward untl t s released from the grooves. A double beep wll sound at the lowest settng. · Press to scroll down whle n programmng mode or revewng the redal lst. /FLASH · Press to make or answer a call. · Durng a call, press to receve an ncomng call when you receve a call watng alert. TONE · Press to swtch to tone dalng temporarly when usng the pulse servce (page 13). CHAN/REMOVE · Swtch to a clearer channel whle on a call. · Press and hold to delete all records n the call log when the phone s not n use. · When revewng the call log or redal lst, press to delete the desred record. PROG · Press to enter programmng mode whle the phone s not n use. /VOL+/ · Press to dsplay the drectory when the phone s not n use. · Press and hold to adjust the rnger volume when the telephone s not n use. · Durng a call, press to ncrease the lstenng volume. SELECT/X-FER · Press to store a programmng opton or a drectory entry. · Durng a call, press to transfer a call to another handset. If you subscrbe to caller ID servce, the date and tme wll be set automatcally wth the next ncomng call. If you do not have caller ID servce, you can set the date and tme manually and ndvdually for each system handset. 1. Press PROG when the handset s n dle mode. 2. Press or untl DATE/TIME s dsplayed. Press SELECT. 3. When the month is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct month and then press SELECT. 4. When the date is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct date and then press SELECT. 5. When the hour is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct hour and then press SELECT. 6. When the minute is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct mnute and then press SELECT. 7. When AM or PM is flashing, press or to choose between AM or PM and then press SELECT. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays RINGER: and the current settng. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes, and you will hear a sample of the ringer. 4. Press or to select RINGER: 1, 2, 3, or 4. You wll hear a sample of each rng tone. 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. · If the rnger volume s set to OFF, RINGER OFF and wll be dsplayed. · Even f the rnger volume s set to OFF, the handsets wll stll rng when you press FIND HANDSET. Ringer volume You can change the rnger volume to a comfortable level or turn the rnger off. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. Press or untl the screen dsplays RINGER VOL: and the current settng. 2. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes, and you will hear a sample of the rnger volume. 3. Press or to select rnger volume from OFF, LOW or HI. You wll hear a sample of the selected volume level. 4. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. -OR1. Press and hold or untl the screen dsplays RINGER VOL: and the current settng when the handset is not in use. The current setting flashes and you will hear a sample of the rnger volume. 2. Press or to select rnger volume from OFF, LOW or HI. You wll hear a sample of the selected volume level. 3. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. www.vtechphones.com 9 Telephone settings Dial mode · If, n the future, your phone servce provder requres you to dal the area code when makng a local call, or you want to cancel the home area code you have already programmed, reprogram your home area code to 000. · Press CHAN/REMOVE when n the home area code menu to delete the stored home area code. ___ wll be dsplayed. If you have touch tone servce, the telephone s ready for use as soon as the battery s charged. If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you wll need to change the dal mode. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays DIAL MODE: and the current settng. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes. 4. Press or to select TONE or PULSE. 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. Home area code If you dal your local calls usng only seven dgts (area code not requred), you can program your home area code, followng the steps below. By programmng your home area code, when you receve a call wthn your local area, the telephone number wll automatcally be stored wthout the area code n the call log. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays HOME AREA CODE. 3. Press SELECT. The stored area code s dsplayed wth the frst dgt flashing. 4. Use the dal key pad to enter the desred home area code. 5. Press SELECT to confirm. Press or untl LANGUAGE s dsplayed. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes. 4. Press or untl the screen dsplays the desred language (ENGLISH, ESPANOL or FRANCAIS). 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. You will hear a confirmation tone. · The clear vocemal feature only turns off the dsplay NEW VOICEMAIL and on the handset and the VOICEMAIL lght on the telephone base. It does not delete your vocemal message(s). Clear voicemail If you subscrbe to vocemal servces provded by your telephone company, NEW VOICEMAIL and wll be dsplayed on the handset and the VOICEMAIL light on the telephone base will flash when you have a new voicemail message. To turn ths ndcator off: 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays CLR VOICEMAIL. 3. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays CLEAR? and the current setting flashes. 4. Press or to select YES. 5. Press SELECT to confirm your selection. Enter the phone number first. You can press to backspace and press CHAN/REMOVE to erase dgts. 2. Press /FLASH to dal. Answer calls End calls Volume · Press any dal pad keys (except /VOL-/CID, /VOL+/ an ncomng call. and OFF) to answer · Press OFF or put the handset back to the telephone base or charger to end a call. · Press /VOL-/CID or /VOL+/ a conversaton. to adjust the lstenng volume durng Channel · Press CHAN/REMOVE to swtch to a clearer channel whle on a call. 12 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation Call waiting If you subscrbe to call watng servce and you are on a call when a new call comes n, you wll hear a beep. The caller ID nformaton wll be dsplayed f you subscrbe to combned caller ID wth call watng servce from your local telephone company. /FLASH on the handset to put the current call on hold and answer · Press the ncomng call. · Press /FLASH at anytme to alternate between calls. Basic operation Telephone operation Temporary tone dialing If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you can change from pulse to touch tone dalng durng a call by pressng TONE*. Ths s useful f you need to send touch tone sgnals to access telephone bankng or long dstance servces. Once you have ntated your call by dalng the phone number n pulse (rotary), press TONE*. Now, all subsequent key presses wll be sent as touch tone sgnals. After you hang up, the phone wll return to pulse (rotary) dalng for the next call. www.vtechphones.com 13 Telephone operation Redial · The telephone stores the five most recently dialed telephone numbers on the redal lst. When the lst s full, the oldest entry s deleted to make room for the new entry. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE, then press , or REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly to revew the redal lst. Press CHAN/REMOVE to delete the dsplayed number. · Press /FLASH, then press REDIAL/PAUSE to dal the last telephone number daled. -ORPress REDIAL/PAUSE, then press , or REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly untl the desred entry dsplays, then press /FLASH to dal the number. Find handset · Press FIND HANDSET on the telephone base to locate the handsets when the telephone s not n use and there s no handset n the telephone base. All handsets wll rng and **PAGING** wll be dsplayed on all handset screens. · Press FIND HANDSET agan or put the handset back n the telephone base to stop the pagng tone of all handsets. -ORPress OFF on the selected handset or put t back n the charger to stop the pagng tone of that partcular handset. 14 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation Transfer an external call An external call can be forwarded to another handset durng a conversaton. 1. Whle on a call, press SELECT/X-FER on the orgnatng handset and ts screen wll show CALL TRANSFERED. 2. When the other handset rngs, press /FLASH on that handset to answer and ts screen wll show TRANSFERED CALL. 3. After the other handset has answered the transferred call, the orgnatng handset screen wll dsplay SYSTEM HS BUSY. · Press /FLASH on the orgnatng handset to cancel the call forwardng before the other handset answers the call. · If the forwarded call s not answered wthn 30 seconds, the call wll be forwarded back to the orgnatng handset. Press /FLASH on the orgnatng handset to answer the call. The call wll be dsconnected f the orgnatng handset does not answer wthn 30 seconds. The drectory can store up to 20 entres (ncludng nne speed dal entres). Each entry may consst of a number up to 24 dgts and a name up to 14 characters. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER NAME. 3. Use the dal pad keys to enter the name. See the Character chart on page 17. · Press to move the cursor to the left or to the rght. · Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a character. 4. When finished, press SELECT or PROG. The screen dsplays ENTER NUMBER. 5. Use the dal pad keys to enter the telephone number. · Press to move the cursor to the left or to the rght. · Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a dgt. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE to nsert a dalng pause (P wll be dsplayed). 6. Press SELECT or PROG. The screen dsplays DISTINCT RING? and the current settng. 7. Press or to choose Y (yes) f you wsh to customze ths entry or choose N (no) for a normal rnger. If you choose Y, a wll be dsplayed wth the drectory entry. 8. Press SELECT or PROG to confirm and you will hear a confirmation tone. Store a directory entry 16 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation Character chart Use the dal pad keys and the chart below to enter a name (up to 14 characters). An error tone wll sound f you try to enter more than 14 characters. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the name you want to search. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the entry you want to edit. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. SPEED EDIT DEL 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press 8005959511 SELECT. Then press or untl EDIT flashes. 4. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays the name and number. The cursor appears at the begnnng of the name. · Use the dal pad keys to edt the name. · Press to move the cursor to the left or to the rght. · Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a character. 5. Press SELECT to move on to the phone number. · Use the dal pad keys to edt the number. · Press to move the cursor to the left or to the rght. · Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a dgt. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE to nsert a dalng pause (P wll be dsplayed). 6. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. SPEED EDIT DEL 8005959511 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press SELECT. Then press or untl DEL (delete) flashes. 4. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ERASE NO YES and the number. The current choice flashes. 5. Press untl YES flashes. 6. Press SELECT. You will hear a confirmation beep. www.vtechphones.com 19 Telephone operation Copy a directory entry into speed dial 1. Press /VOL+/ when the handset s not n use. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the entry you want to copy. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. SPEED EDIT DEL 8005959511 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press SELECT. Then press or untl SPEED flashes. 4. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER 1-9. 5. Press a key (1-9) to copy ths entry from the drectory to the speed dal memory and assign the memory location. You will hear a confirmation beep. A memory locaton number (01 through 09) wll be dsplayed wth ths entry. Dial a number from the directory 1. Press /VOL+/ when the handset s not n use. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the desired entry. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press /FLASH. 20 www.vtechphones.com Telephone operation Speed dial Your telephone can store up to nne telephone numbers wth names (up to 14 characters and 24 dgts n each locaton) n the speed dal memory locatons you assgn n the handset. · The entres stored n the speed dal memory wll be numbered 01 through 09 and share the memory n the drectory. · Press OFF at any tme to ext speed dal mode. · If the locaton s not empty, the new entry wll replace the old entry and the old entry wll be moved to a drectory locaton. Even so, ths handset and telephone base can communicate over only a certain distance - which can vary with the locations of the telephone base and handset, the weather, and the layout of your home or office. When the handset s out of range, the handset wll dsplay CONNECTING... If there s a call whle the handset s out of range, t mght not rng, or f t does rng, the call mght not connect well when you press telephone base, then press /FLASH to answer the call. Electrical storms Electrcal storms can sometmes cause power surges harmful to electronc equpment. For your own safety, take cauton when usng electrcal applances durng storms. Cleaning your telephone Your telephone has a durable plastc casng that should retan ts luster for many years. Clean t only wth a soft cloth slghtly dampened wth water or a mld soap. Telephone calls are transmtted between the telephone base and the cordless handset by rado waves, so there s a possblty that the cordless telephone conversatons could be ntercepted by rado recevng equpment wthn range of the cordless handset. For ths reason, you should not thnk of cordless telephone conversatons as beng as prvate as those on corded telephones. Electrical Power: The telephone base of ths cordless telephone must be connected to a workng electrcal outlet. The electrcal outlet should not be controlled by a wall swtch. Calls cannot be made from the cordless handset f the telephone base s unplugged or swtched off, or f the electrcal power s nterrupted. Potential TV interference: Some cordless telephones operate at frequences that may cause nterference to televsons and VCRs. To mnmze or prevent such nterference, do not place the telephone base of the cordless telephone near or on top of a TV or VCR. If nterference s experenced, movng the cordless telephone farther away from the TV or VCR wll often reduce or elmnate the nterference. The lmted warranty perod for the Product extends for ONE (1) YEAR from the date of purchase. Product returned wthout a vald proof of purchase (see tem 2 below); or 8. Charges for nstallaton or set up, adjustment of customer controls, and nstallaton or repar of systems outsde the unt. Except as provded by applcable law, you assume the rsk of loss or damage durng transt and transportaton and are responsble for delvery or handlng charges ncurred n the transport of the Product(s) to the servce locaton. VTech wll return repared or replaced Product under ths lmted warranty. Transportaton, delvery or handlng charges are prepad. VTech assumes no rsk for damage or loss of the Product n transt.
