Telephone base installation
· Use only the power adapter suppled wth ths product. To order a replacement, vst our webste at www.vtechphones. com or call 1 (800) 595-9511. In Canada, go to www.vtechcanada. com or call 1 (800) 267-7377. · The power adapter s ntended to be correctly orented n a vertcal or floor mount poston. The prongs are not desgned to hold the plug n place f t s plugged nto a celng or an under-the-table/ cabnet outlet.
Install the telephone base as shown below. Make sure that the electrcal outlet s not controlled by a wall swtch. If you subscrbe to hgh-speed Internet servce (Dgtal Subscrber Lne - DSL) through your telephone lnes, you must nstall a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack. The filter will prevent nose and caller ID problems caused by DSL nterference. Please contact your DSL service provider for more information about DSL filters.

Battery installation and charging
Install the battery as shown below. The battery may have enough charge for short calls. For best performance, charge the battery for at least 16 hours before use. When the battery power s low, LOW BATTERY wll be dsplayed and wll flash on the handset screen. When fully charged, the handset battery provides approximately five hours of talk time or six days of standby time. 1. Insert the plug of the battery as ndcated. Make sure t s plugged securely and matches the color-coded label nsde the battery compartment. 2. Place the battery wth the label THIS SIDE UP facng up and the wres nsde the battery compartment. 3. Align the battery compartment cover flat against the battery compartment, then slde t upwards untl t clcks nto place. 4. Charge the handset by placng t n the telephone base. The handset charge lght wll be on when chargng.

Mounting bracket installation
Your telephone base comes wth the mountng bracket nstalled, ready for desktop use. You may also mount your telephone onto a standard telephone wall plate. Wall mounting bracket installation: To prepare the telephone base for wall mountng, you wll need to remove the bracket f t s currently attached for desktop use. Press on the tabs located on the legs of the bracket to loosen, then lft the bracket up and away from the telephone base. 1. Frst, nsert the lower porton tabs of the mountng bracket nto the lower grooves n the telephone base, then snap the upper porton tabs of the mountng bracket nto place. 2. Mount the telephone base on the wall by postonng t so the mountng studs will fit into the holes on the telephone base and mounting bracket. Slide the telephone base down on the mountng studs untl t locks nto place. 3. To remove the bracket, press both upper portion tabs firmly inward and pull the bracket downward untl t releases from the grooves.

Desktop/tabletop bracket installation: Your phone comes ready for table or desktop use. If you have repostoned the bracket for wall mountng and now want to return to desktop use, follow these steps: 1. Insert the lower porton tabs of the mountng bracket nto the upper grooves of the telephone base. 2. Snap the upper porton tabs of the bracket nto place. 3. To remove the bracket, press both upper portion tabs firmly inward and pull the bracket upward untl t s released from the grooves.

· In the event of a power falure, the tme may need to be reset.
If you subscrbe to caller ID servce, the date and tme wll be set automatcally wth the next ncomng call. If you do not have caller ID servce, you can set the date and tme manually. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl DATE/TIME s dsplayed. Press SELECT. 3. When the month is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct month and then press SELECT. 4. When the date is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct date and then press SELECT. 5. When the hour is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct hour and then press SELECT. 6. When the minute is flashing, press or untl the screen dsplays the correct mnute and then press SELECT. 7. When AM or PM is flashing, press or to choose between AM or PM and then press SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.

· If, n the future, your phone servce provder requres you to dal the area code when makng a local call, or you want to cancel the home area code you have already programmed, reprogram your home area code to 000. · Press CHAN/REMOVE when n the home area code menu to delete the stored home area code. ___ wll be dsplayed.
If you have touch tone servce, the telephone s ready for use as soon as the battery s charged. If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you wll need to change the dal mode. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays DIAL MODE: and the current settng. 3. Press SELECT. The current setting flashes. 4. Press or to select TONE or PULSE. 5. Home area code
If you dal your local calls usng only seven dgts (area code not requred), you can program your home area code, followng the steps below. By programmng your home area code, when you receve a call wthn your local area, the telephone number wll automatcally be stored wthout the area code n the call log. 1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. 2. Press or untl the screen dsplays HOME AREA CODE. 3. Press SELECT. The stored area code is displayed with the first digit flashing. 4. Use the dal key pad to enter the desred home area code. 5. Press SELECT to confirm. You will hear a confirmation tone.

If you subscrbe to call watng servce and you are on a call when a new call comes n, you wll hear a beep. The caller ID nformaton wll be dsplayed f you subscrbe to combned caller ID wth call watng servce from your local telephone company. · Press /FLASH on the handset to put the current call on hold and answer the ncomng call. · Press /FLASH at anytme to alternate between calls.

Temporary tone dialing
If you have pulse (rotary) servce, you can change from pulse to touch tone dalng durng a call by pressng TONE*. Ths s useful f you need to send touch tone sgnals to access telephone bankng or long dstance servces. Once you have ntated your call by dalng the phone number n pulse (rotary), press TONE*. Now, all subsequent key presses wll be sent as touch tone sgnals. After you hang up, the phone wll return to pulse (rotary) dalng for the next call.

Redial
· The telephone stores five most recently dialed telephone numbers on the redal lst. When the lst s full, the oldest entry s deleted to make room for the new entry. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE, then press , or REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly to revew the redal lst. Press CHAN/REMOVE to delete the dsplayed number. · Press /FLASH, then press REDIAL/PAUSE to dal the last telephone number daled. -ORPress REDIAL/PAUSE, then press , or REDIAL/PAUSE repeatedly untl the desred entry dsplays, then press /FLASH to dal the number.
Find handset
· Press FIND HANDSET on the telephone base to locate the handset when the telephone s not n use and the handset s not n the telephone base. The handset wll rng and **PAGING** wll be dsplayed on ts screen. · Press FIND HANDSET agan or put the handset back n the telephone base to stop the pagng tone. -ORPress OFF on the handset.

Directory
The drectory can store up to 20 entres (ncludng nne speed dal entres). Each entry may consst of a number up to 24 dgts and a name up to 14 characters.
Store a directory entry
1. Press PROG when the handset s not n use. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER NAME. 3. Use the dal pad keys to enter the name. See the Character chart on page 16. · Press to move the cursor to the left or to the rght. · Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a character. 4. When finished, press SELECT or PROG. The screen dsplays ENTER NUMBER. 5. Use the dal pad keys to enter the telephone number. · Press to move the cursor to the left or to the rght. · Press CHAN/REMOVE to erase a dgt. · Press REDIAL/PAUSE to nsert a dalng pause (P wll be dsplayed). 6. Press SELECT or PROG. The screen dsplays DISTINCT RING? and the current settng. 7. Press or to choose Y (yes) f you wsh to customze ths entry or choose N (no) for a normal rnger. If you choose Y, a wll be dsplayed wth the drectory entry. 8. Press SELECT or PROG to confirm and you will hear a confirmation tone.

Character chart
· When you reach the end of the lst n the drectory, END OF LIST wll be shown on the screen and there wll be an error tone. · If you press a dal pad key for alphabetcal search whle n the drectory and there are no entres startng wth the letters of that key, NO DATA wll be dsplayed on the screen.
Use the dal pad keys and the chart below to enter a name (up to 14 characters). An error tone wll sound f you try to enter more than 14 characters. Each press of a partcular key causes the characters to be dsplayed n the followng order:

The screen dsplays ERASE NO YES and the number. The current choice flashes. 5. Press untl YES flashes. 6. Press SELECT. You will hear a confirmation beep.

Copy a directory entry into speed dial
1. Press /VOL+/ when the handset s not n use. The screen dsplays DIRECTORY. 2. Press or to scroll through the entres stored n the drectory alphabetcally. - OR Press the dial pad key for the first letter of the entry you want to copy. If necessary, scroll or to find the desired entry. SPEED EDIT DEL 3. When the screen dsplays the desred entry, press 8005959511 SELECT. Then press or untl SPEED flashes. 4. Press SELECT. The screen dsplays ENTER 1-9. 5. Press a key (1-9) to copy ths entry from the drectory to the speed dal memory and assign the memory location. You'll hear a confirmation beep. The caller ID wth call watng feature n ths telephone lets you see the name and telephone number of the caller before answerng the call, even when already on a call. These features requre servces provded by your local telephone company. You can change the number of dgts that you dal from or store n the call log. Whle revewng the call log, press # repeatedly to dsplay dfferent dalng optons for local and long dstance numbers before dalng or savng the telephone number n the drectory. Activate the answering system

Set the clock
Before playng each message, the answerng system announces the day and tme of the message receved. Before usng the answerng system, set the day, tme and year, so that messages are dated correctly. Set number of rings
Ths feature allows you to select the number of rngs before the answerng system answers. You can choose from two, four or sx rngs or toll saver. Wth toll saver actve, the answerng system answers after two rngs when there s a new message, and after four rngs when there s no new message. To set the number of rngs: 1. You wll have to delete some messages before new ones can be recorded. · Only old messages can be deleted. Messages can only be deleted after they are played.
The message dsplay counter wll flash when there are new answerng system messages. If the new message alert tone s turned on, the telephone base wll beep every ten seconds when there are unrevewed messages.

My telephone does not work at all.
Suggestion
· Make sure the battery s nstalled and charged correctly (page 3). For optmum daly performance, return the handset to the telephone base after use. · Make sure the power adapter s securely plugged nto an outlet not controlled by a wall swtch. · Make sure the telephone line cord is plugged firmly into the telephone base and the wall jack. · Unplug the unt's electrcal power. Wat for approxmately 15 seconds, then plug t back n. Allow up to one mnute for the handset and telephone base to synchronze. · Charge the battery n the handset for at least 16 hours. · Remove and re-nsert the battery. If that stll does not work, t may be necessary to purchase a new battery. · Dsconnect the telephone base from the jack and plug n a workng telephone. If ths telephone does not work, the problem s probably n the wrng or the local servce. Call the local telephone company. · Place the handset n the telephone base or charger for rechargng. · Remove and re-nstall the battery and use t normally untl fully depleted, then recharge the handset on the telephone base for 16 hours. · If the above measures do not correct the problem, the battery may need to be replaced.
